Annmarie’s The Charming Cottage Children’s Boutique, located in Tipton’s Side Street Mall, offers unique clothing and other items at reasonable prices. Owned by Annmarie Beard, the shop is a sister store to her two women’s boutiques, Annmarie’s A Boutique Experience and Annmarie’s Boutique Kokomo. Maintaining a store dedicated to children in addition to operating two other shops might seem demanding, but it’s a labor of love that Beard thrives on.

It wasn’t a hard decision for Beard to rebuy it. Years ago, she had been a buyer for the gift shop at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Her goal for initially opening the shop was to put something in the space that would have staying power and be good for Tipton. She is passionate about it and truly enjoys it.

“When people buy clothing, they don’t want to look like everyone else,” Beard says.

“A boutique shopping experience means there is usually just one item in each size. If you see a child with a cute outfit on, you know it came from a boutique because it is a little different. I feel like I am a really good buyer for the store because I don’t buy the first things I see. I shop around for good

her children’s boutique four years ago, but after just one year of owning it, she found out she had breast cancer. Not knowing what the future would hold, she sold the shop to a friend who also worked there. In a full circle of events, Beard made a full recovery, and in May her friend wanted to sell the boutique.

“When I found out I had cancer, I was just floored and wasn’t sure I could do it all,” she says. “I feel I got off lucky since I caught it early. I had surgery, reconstructive surgery and radiation. I have been cancer free for almost three years now and my health is great. The friend who bought The Charming Cottage has new twin grandsons and wanted to stay home to help care for them.

After taking the store back over, Beard did not have to make major changes since the decor inside was still the way she initially had it. She was excited to keep the Itzy Ritzy line her friend had acquired. However, she delighted in putting her own spin on things. She offers children’s T-shirts and onesies that she designs and prints herself. Most are $10 and have a rock-and-roll theme. Beard also bleaches flannel shirts, which are available in sizes six through 12.

“I have a lot of cute things in the shop with exceptional quality at reasonable prices,” Beard says. “Since the closest big-box store is 20 or 30 minutes away, I do carry some basic clothing. Grandmas and aunts are a huge audience. Also, people buying shower gifts can get a lot for their money. We have a few toys that are $2 or $3 for parents that want to buy something when they come in with their kids. We also carry baby jewelry, teethers, pacifiers, mobiles and toys for car seats.”

“It’s really not about making money at all,” she adds. “I put money back in the store. It’s all about enjoying it. I love processing the inventory and talking to customers. Everyone in Tipton is nice and very friendly. In a small town there is a need for unique places with unique things, at good prices.”

Years ago, Randall started work at the Walmart jewelry counter in Lafayette.

One day in 2019 she went into Moser Jewelers to ask the owners, John and Beth Moser, for a job. They hired her and

worked her way up the ladder at Kay’s, going from part-time sales associate to assistant manager. She spent several years at Kay Jewelers of Lafayette, IN as well at an Independent Jeweler, Roth Bros of Monticello, IN where she gained skills and expertise in the industry prior to moving back to Tipton to live near family.

“I was a hard worker and a single mom,” says Randall, who quickly took a shine to her job. One day the jeweler who picked up items for repair suggested Randall apply to work at a mall jewelry store. She followed his advice and was hired at Kay Jewelers.

welcomed her with open arms.

Sadly, Beth passed away in January of 2022. John wanted to continue the tradition that his parents had started in the 1970s so he asked Randall if she would be interested in purchasing the store. She happily accepted and officially took over the store in May of 2022, changing the name to Hope

The Mosers appreciated Randall’s passion because it was one they shared. John had grown up in the jewelry industry, having worked with his parents at the store they had in Elwood. In 2000 John and Beth built a second store in Tipton where they employed Angie Murray, who was with them for 40-plus years. The Mosers closed the Elwood location in 2016.

grateful that of all the places the Mosers could have chosen to open a second store, they chose Tipton.

“John and Beth could have had a store built anywhere, but Tipton had a lot of loyal customers,” says Randall, who values the implicit trust her customers have in her.

“I could be at the grocery store or out on a walk and my customers will literally want to hand me their jewelry and say, ‘This needs fixed. Can you take it to your shop, repair it and bring it back to me?’ They are willing to hand over their most treasured items.”

“Tipton is just a wonderful community,” she says. “It’s like stepping back in time. People talk to each other in the middle of the road. It’s a constant reunion.”

“It’s a way to help brighten the holiday season for those in need,” Randall says.

Hope Jewelers is located at 135 East Jefferson Street in Tipton. For more information, call 765-675-9720 or visit hopejewelerstipton.com.

Throughout the year, however, Randall lives to brighten up the lives of those around her. She has had people break down in happy tears when they see a cherished piece of jewelry restored to its original glory.

“I was able to continue the legacy and hopefully pay it forward because of the encouragement I received from her,” Randall says. “She was one of the most positive role models, and I am so incredibly grateful I had the privilege to know and look up to her. For such a tiny woman she left some pretty big shoes to fill.

“The sky’s the limit,” she says. “We have something for everyone. I like to call Hope Jewelers Tipton’s best hidden gem.”

Although Randall was born in Noblesville, she grew up in the surrounding areas of Kokomo and attended Western. She also has family here so Tipton feels like home.

Randall is proud to not only honor Beth’s memory but also continue in the field as it’s becoming a lost art.

“Small Town Saturdays are the third Saturday of the month during the summer in downtown Tipton,” Ripberger says. “Hopefully we can continue the momentum into the continuing months.”

When Ripberger started For the Love of Food with Jama Fernung, the goal was to adopt a healthier lifestyle for both of their families. They both loved food preparation and started preparing healthier meals for their families. They posted photos of the meals on Facebook, and Ripberger and Fernung started receiving a lot of requests to sell their healthy meals. After that, they started For the Love of Food in January of 2020.
