HIGH PERFORMANCE ALLOYS SHINES AS AN AWARD-WINNING MANUFACTURER AND SUPPLIER Writer / Natalie Platt Photographer / Dylan Senkus

Tipton-based High Performance Alloys (HPA) stands as a beacon in the realm of specialty metals manufacturing. The company supplies materials to industries with extreme environments that require resistance to wear, corrosion, and/or high temperature, and specializes in producing uncommon sizes and alloys. Since the beginning, HPA has been dedicated to providing exceptional customer service. With a focus on precision and reliability, HPA has earned a commendable reputation in the industry and locally in Tipton. Most recently, the company was named a Top Aircraft Distributor for 2023 by Aerospace and Defense Review, as well as one of Indiana’s Best Places to Work in Manufacturing by Inside INdiana Business. HPA was founded by Russ Kirchner Jr., a metallurgist and corrosion specialist, in 1984, with the intent to sell common nickel alloys quickly and economically, and cater to the growing demand for specialized alloys across diverse industries. Recognizing the need for superior-grade metals that can withstand extreme conditions and rigorous

applications, the small family business embarked on a journey to develop cuttingedge processes that would make HPA a leader in the market. The company has stayed in the family and local - ever since. Russell and David Kirchner are sons of the founder in the business, and there are 85 employees who work at HPA today. “I believe being a family business is an asset for our customers,” says Russell Kirchner III, chief financial officer. “We are small enough to respond quickly to their needs. We have some farmers that work for us. Their attitude is, whatever it takes to get it done. A large company wouldn’t get that benefit from their employees.” At the end of 2021 the company leaders started planning their expansion in the industry. They evaluated HPA wages and benefits, and positioned themselves so they were paying above the local and regional wage costs. At HPA, customer satisfaction is paramount. Being a distributor, service center and producer helps the family-owned company meet their customers’ specific

needs within a very short time, turning 90-week lead times into 30 weeks. A onestop shop for Nitronic, Monel, and other nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys, HPA leverages 40-plus years of material supply expertise and advanced manufacturing capabilities to fulfill the critical demand for these materials. Mechanical engineers love the company’s materials. HPA’s small size makes them extremely agile, as evidenced by their shortened lead time compared to competitors, and has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of the company - but their roots are never forgotten. “Our small-town community teaches our employees about sharing the same beliefs and goals, and being welcoming, supportive and caring of each other,” Kirchner says. CORE CAUSES BELLALISSE FOCUSES ON HEALTH AND WELL-BEING THROUGH FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

Writer / Natalie Platt Photography Provided

Diann Lydell-Jones, NP, owner of BellaLisse in Cicero, says the practice is a one-stop shop for optimizing your health and overall well-being through functional medicine. So what does that mean? Lydell-Jones believes functional health identifies and addresses the potential root causes of symptoms. Instead of treating high blood pressure, acid reflux or fatigue with medications, Lydell-Jones seeks to find the underlying cause and treat it with the most gentle, natural means possible, which may ultimately include prescription medications. “If the washer is leaking, it doesn’t do any good to stand in front of it with a mop; the leak is still there,” Lydell-Jones says. “Functional medicine seeks to find the leak and fix it.” BellaLisse also offers more than functional health services. The practice opened in December 2020 to meet the needs of individuals dissatisfied with how they look or feel. 4 | February 2024 | TownePost.com

“We offer functional health, weight loss, hormone replacement therapy and aesthetics,” Lydell-Jones says. “Ultimately, the goal is for the client to feel and look their best while improving their overall quality of life.” The most common health-related complaints BellaLisse hears from patients include lack of motivation, fatigue, mood changes and weight gain, despite diet and exercise. Lydell-Jones says most of these individuals have at least one nutrient deficiency causing them to feel any of these symptoms - and feel less than optimal overall. “It’s difficult to wrap our head around nutrient deficiencies in our modern world

considering the abundant food supply we have in the U.S., but ultimately, most individuals limit their fruit and vegetable intakes to only a few of their favorites,” she says. “We rarely eat a rainbow of colorful

produce. The CDC estimates only 9% of the population eats an adequate amount of vegetables daily. Nutrient deficiencies cause impairments in our noncritical assembly lines, which may be the same assembly lines that provide energy, nerve transmission, immune support, cognitive clarity or cell renewal.” The practice treats both men and women. Lydell-Jones notes that the decline of male hormones occurs more gradually than in women. It’s far more insidious and gets far less attention than female hormonal imbalance, though many of the same complaints are present, like fatigue, mood changes, sleep disturbances and brain fog. The start of a new year is a popular time to focus on health and well-being, but it can be difficult for those who want to start but don’t know how. “If you don’t know how to start your wellness journey, consider taking a high-

quality daily multivitamin,” Lydell-Jones says. “Shop the outside perimeter of the grocery store to help you find healthier options, and try to avoid eating two to three hours before bedtime so your body can rest and repair instead of digesting.”

It’s also the right time to consider making an appointment at the Cicero-based practice if you’ve been to your health care provider, maybe even several providers, but can’t find the answers to what is wrong.

If you wonder why you’re tired, have trouble thinking clearly or aren’t sleeping well at night, BellaLisse is a starting point for discovering the root cause of these symptoms.

To explore all of the health and wellness options at BellaLisse or to make an appointment, visit bellalisse.health or call the clinic at 317-984-7007. BellaLisse is located at 90 North Peru Street in Cicero.

FIT FACILITY CROSSFIT TIPTON OWNERS KEEP MEMBERS INSPIRED AND IN MOTION Writer / Matt Keating Photographer / Dylan Senkus

M

egan Zabst, owner of CrossFit Tipton, says she has enjoyed running the facility with her husband, Kyle.

“I have been a member of CrossFit Tipton since September 2020 and the community CrossFit Tipton has is unmatched,” Zabst says. “It is exactly what our community in Tipton needs, and becoming a coach earlier in 2023 gave me some insight on what the operations were like. Combine both of those aspects with my bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and this became something we felt needed to continue. We want this to be a place for everybody to just be able to move on a regular basis with people who care about you.” Megan says members look forward to

“CrossFit Tipton is a place where you can expect to have fun, have accountability, and be involved inside and outside of our walls,” Zabst says. “Members can look forward to upcoming nutrition challenges, our Family Fit games, the CrossFit Open, and several more events we have planned for 2024 and years to come.”

“Our group training classes are 100% coach-led, and allow you to get in, work hard and be done in 60 minutes,” Zabst says. “Our coaching staff is knowledgeable in the movements and modifications that come with not only CrossFit, but also with life. We want our members to come in, move their bodies, and continue on with their busy days while giving them 60 minutes to benefit themselves.”

Zabst adds that members enjoy various events.

Zabst has her own favorite exercise program.

attending CrossFit Tipton.

”My favorite exercise program is our CrossFit programming,” she says. “It is a mixture of strength, cardio and interval training so that no days are exactly the same, Group exercise programs at CrossFit Tipton and gives the variety an exercise program have also been popular. should have in order to produce results.” “Monthly happenings allow us to be more than just a gym,” she says. “They build a community that we all need.”

Zabst notes that there are positive ways to meet fitness goals in the new year. “Start small, but mostly just start,” she says. “Even if you have to start over and over and over again, just keep trying to build consistency. Oftentimes people think that if they don’t go to the gym five to six days in a row every single week that they have failed, when really all you have to do is keep showing up. Eventually life will give, and you’ll hit that five-day streak and then two-week streak and so on. You are worth it to keep showing up as many times as it takes.” Zabst says she and Kyle are thrilled they took over CrossFit Tipton. “We are so excited and thankful for this opportunity to continue building a community within our community that is supportive, kind and hard-working,” she says. “I know my life would look a lot different if it weren’t for joining three years ago, and I’m hoping to continue having that impact on anyone who decides to walk through our doors. Whether you have been with us since 2017 when CrossFit Tipton began, or decide to join us today, we are excited to have you.” Visit CrossFit Tipton at 104 Mill Street in Tipton, check out crossfittipton.com, and call 765-418-6288 for more info.

AHEAD OF THE CURVE MZ3 Golf Academy Uses Modern Technology & Innovative Lessons For All Ages Writer / Seth Johnson Photographer / Ron Wise

10 | February 2024 | TownePost.com

G

olf has been a big part of Michael Zedrick III’s life for as long as he can remember.

“Golf was a big deal on my dad’s side of the family, and I really just followed in his footsteps,” Zedrick says. Now through MZ3 Golf Academy, Zedrick is sharing his love for golf with students young and old. Held at Gray Eagle Golf Club, Zedrick’s golf lessons are open to students of all ages, beginning at age 6. Zedrick first tried his hand at teaching golf lessons at the age of 16 as part of some service hours he needed to complete for Confirmation. “Every year since then, I’ve either been involved in junior golf or instruction,” he says. “So basically, for the last 30 years, I’ve been teaching in one form or another.” Zedrick is known for the many unique ways that he teaches his students. With junior high through adult students, for example, he utilizes the golf simulators at Gray Eagle to help sharpen their skills. “We have three simulators at Gray Eagle, so every week we’ll play nine holes on the simulator,” he says. “They keep a very detailed scorecard that’s filled with lots of

stats, and the following week we pick the lowest hanging fruit to work on.” With students junior high and younger, Zedrick uses another innovative technique associated with Discover Golf to keep things engaging. “You know the culture of today’s younger people — most of them are gamers of some sort,” he says. “Every game we play is ‘golf-ish,’ but every game has an element of chance and an element of randomness built into the game.” These games help Zedrick keep students interested even if they’re brand new to golf.

“Every game is going to cater towards the kid that’s very good but also the kid who has never played golf and maybe doesn’t even want to be there,” Zedrick says. “There are going to be three to five unique choices that will need to be made throughout the game strategy-wise, kind of like playing Monopoly. It’s not just giving them a golf experience — it’s giving them a great experience as a whole.” Whether he’s instructing an experienced adult or a teenage novice, Michael Zedrick truly finds joy in teaching people how to golf. “I really do enjoy helping people,” he adds. “Somebody might shoot me an email and say, ‘Hey, I made my first hole-in-one, or I just broke 90 for the first time.’ It’s just those little things that are an affirmation of what I do.” To learn more about the various courses that Zedrick offers and upcoming golf camps, visit MZ3Golf.com or call 217-304-4964 for more information.
