A LETTER FROM THE MAYOR OF WESTFIELD country- and the world- every year. Our population now sits at a little over 47,000 people and we have been recognized as one of “2021’s Best Small Cities in America.” What makes us worthy of this recognition? A few highlights…

It is not widely realized how important community banks are to the financial wellbeing of municipalities. Local deposits are taken in and then redistributed back into the community, as community banks handle more than 60% of small-business loans according to Lainey Schroer, Marketing/ Communications Manager for Community First. Community banks also contribute tax dollars that keep town centers and local neighborhoods viable and vibrant. Founders of WellBridge Surgical Dr. Eric Inman, local entrepreneur Jeff Williams, and Dr. Ron Piniecki

WELLBRIDGE SURGICAL Writer / Renee Larr Photographer / Amy Payne

WellBridge Surgical is disrupting the healthcare model for surgery in Indiana. The country’s second-ever cash-pay surgery center offers Hoosiers fixed and transparent pricing for surgery.

SPRY

Local business owner Jeff Williams noticed the cost of health care was rising tremendously for his small business. Williams didn’t want to increase his deductible for his employees, nor did he want to increase his rates by a high margin. Instead, Williams partnered with longtime friends Dr. Ron Piniecki and Dr. Eric Inman, both anesthesiologists, to revolutionize the way patients pay for their surgical care. The fixed payment method means patients know their all-in total cost for surgery prior to the procedure and don’t receive a surprise bill in the mail. Pricing includes the facility charge, surgeon fee and anesthesiologist fee. Patients pay a one-time consultation fee of $150 that is credited to the cost of the surgical procedure.

CONNECT

Not only is the pricing up-front and transparent, but patients also pay, on average, 30% to 60% less than they would at other facilities in Indianapolis. Williams says WellBridge can offer their patients TownePost.com 2022 DIRECTORY / APRIL AND 2022RELOCATION / WESTFIELD GUIDE MAGAZINE / 23 / 15

those savings by not adding hidden facility fees. For instance, the WellBridge cost for ear tubes is $2,380, while the Indianapolis average is $6,804. WellBridge Surgical offers general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology, podiatry, and gastroenterology procedures. Patients contact WellBridge and are paired with a surgeon based on their specific surgical needs. The prices of surgical procedures are listed on the WellBridge Surgical website. The patient will know their total cost immediately. “Dr. Piniecki and Dr. Inman have worked at some of the biggest hospital systems, so they know most of the surgeons in Indianapolis,” Williams says. “We’ve partnered with some of the best surgeons in the city.” “Our first surgical patient was a smallbusiness owner,” Williams says. “He and his wife were so thankful to find us. They have insurance but they never knew what they would pay for care. It made us feel like we were proving our theory right.” Hoosiers pay the fourth-highest surgical costs nationwide according to a 2020 RAND Corporation study. WellBridge aims to make a difference with the uninsured, individuals with high-deductible insurance plans, and those with self-funded plans.

LOCAL PRACTICE BRINGS EXPERTISE AND STATEOF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY TO PATIENT CARE Writer / Renee Larr Photographer / Justin Sicking

Dr. Kyle Davis was pursuing a career path in healthcare when he realized he wanted to be involved in more direct patient care. He shadowed several professions, and after shadowing his family dentist he discovered that he enjoyed the patient interaction and family feel. He grew up in Fairmount, Indiana, graduating from Madison-Grant High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis before attending the Indiana University School of Dentistry. Dr. Davis graduated with the honor of high academic distinction and was elected as a member of the Theta Theta Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society.

digital model of the patient’s teeth, allowing Dr. Davis and his team a quicker turnaround time for procedures that require laboratory time. If minor changes are needed, the digital impression often eliminates the need for the patient to return for a new impression. This saves time, instead of returning to the office for another appointment. Dr. Davis and his staff also utilize a cone beam computed tomography imaging technique for diagnosing and treatment planning. This X-ray goes much further than the traditional 2D image completed on a routine examination. This helps enhance the patient’s diagnosis when there are complicated issues present and helps create a more precise image to enhance treatment planning. Nexus Dental is always looking to advance to the next level and will be adding more technology in the near future to continue to provide the best patient care!

Dr. Davis started practicing at Nexus Dental in Westfield in November of 2021. Nexus Dental offers various services including crowns, emergency dental care, cosmetic dentistry, dental imaging, endodontics, implants, dentures, oral surgery, Invisalign and teeth whitening.

Dr. Davis loves interacting with his patients and the community to promote great oral health. “We’re trying to make our patients happy with their smile and achieve stable oral health, while not over-treating the patient,” Dr. Davis says.

Technology is a key differentiating factor for Nexus Dental. The practice utilizes the iTero Element 5D imaging system, which provides cutting-edge digital scanning. The iTero Element is an intra-oral scanner that replaces typical putty impressions. Instead, it is a 3D

Dr. Davis prides himself on being able to help most patients same day. He solves the immediate issue and then works to solve the greater problem.

s Bill Benner reflects on a career of 40-plus years as an Indianapolis Star sports reporter and columnist, Butler University professor, communications and public relations director, and coorganizer for many major sporting events in the city - a career, by the way, that is in many ways as productive as it ever was, but more on that later - he remains extremely optimistic about the future of sports in the Hoosier state and Indianapolis in particular. Such optimism has merit. After all, Indy is again playing host to this year’s NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament and has been home to numerous NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Fours, the 1996 and 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials for swimming, and of course Super Bowl XLVI. “I was fortunate enough to be at the Star as Indianapolis evolved as a sports city, and

was almost the primary person assigned to write about the formation of the Sports Corp, the building of major venues, the attraction of the NCAA and Pan Am Games, and so much stuff that has happened here in Indy,” says Benner, who served as co-chair of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee’s media relations committee, as well as on organizing committees for numerous NCAA Final Fours. “The city has come through on all of it, and will continue to do so.”

had back in the ‘70s - Jim Morris and Ted Boehm and a host of others - going back to the building of Market Square Arena,” Benner says. “They had a vision to turn Indianapolis into a sports capital and make the investment with the arena, and then the Hoosier Dome, and attract the NCAA and bring Final Four here. All that led up to the Super Bowl, and then we had five consecutive Big Ten basketball tournaments, Final Fours, and now, of course, March Madness.”

Benner says Indy’s development as a major sports city can be traced back to the forethought and planning of several local leaders, around the time Benner himself was starting out as a sports reporter at the Indianapolis Star.

Benner, an Indy native, came up through the Center Grove school system, and learned fairly early on that writing, particularly of the reporting variety, came naturally. He wrote for the school paper and yearbook in the latter part of his high school years, and by the time college rolled around he had obtained an evening job as a score boy with

He was given a few small duties writing headlines and reporting game results and eventually “Score boys worked with the sports took on an assignment in August of 1968 department and gave out scores when covering a Greenwood woman who had people would call in wanting to know Pacers won the national table tennis championship. or college football scores, or horse race Thus, he secured his first byline as a results,” Benner explains. newspaper reporter.

then on I stayed in the sports department,” Benner says. “In the following years they would let me go out and cover high school games, and I was hooked.”

By the end of his freshman year Benner had developed a relationship with Cyrus “Cy”

In the mid-1990s Art Levin, chairman of Butler University’s journalism department at the time, reached out to Benner about joining the faculty as an adjunct sports journalism professor. Benner developed a curriculum and taught at Butler from 1995 through 2004, drawing on his reporting knowledge and experience.

“Cy edited that story and worked it over, but thought it was pretty good, and from

Benner finished up his journalism degree at IU-Bloomington after a stint in the Army, and went on to work at the Star until 2001, writing as a full-time columnist beginning in 1990.

In 2001, Benner began as a sports columnist for the Indianapolis Business Journal, a position he would continue until 2013. Around the same time, he also decided to explore a few different career avenues and became vice president of communications for the Indiana Sports Corporation, while working for Visit Indy in a sports capacity. In August of 2013, he got a call regarding a job with Pacers Sports & Entertainment, eventually serving as both senior vice president for corporate, community and public relations, and also de facto executive director of the Pacers Foundation. In 2020, Benner stepped away from his

role with Pacers Sports & Entertainment after seven years, and continues to serve on several boards, including Special Olympics Indiana, the Finish Line Youth Foundation, and the Pacers Foundation. Nowadays, Benner tries to spend as much time as possible with his wife Sherry, their children Allison and Ashley, and two grandkids William and Emma.

haven’t been a full-time basketball writer since I left the Star, so for them to reach back into the archives and honor me like this is a tremendous thrill.” Benner feels Indy is more than ready to handle the logistics, crowds and fanfare of another NCAA March Madness - and he should know, having written about and helped organize so many of Indy’s major

“I love the mountains out west, and we have a place in the mountains in Colorado, but I’m still a Hoosier at heart,” he says. As for Benner’s accolades, the list is lengthy - he was twice awarded Indiana Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (now the National Sports Media Association). In 2017, he received a Sagamore of the Wabash award from the governor, which is Indiana’s highest individual honor. Last spring Benner was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame, of which he was president from 1998 to 1999. The induction ceremony was held during the Final Four in Indianapolis. “I’m so honored by it and elated,” he says of his Hall of Fame honors. “It was a total surprise to me. After I left the Star I continued to write for Indianapolis Business Journal, but I truly

sports events. “I don’t think there’s any other city that could do it,” he says. “Every time we’ve hosted a major event - a Final Four, the Super Bowl, the World Championships for gymnastics - Indianapolis has always raised the bar. I have no doubt that will continue to be the case.”

ROLL ON

NORI JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE OPENS IN WESTFIELD Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photographer / Jubilee Edgell

Often when deciding where to go out to dinner, we consider the atmosphere just as much as the food. Are we in the mood for a quiet, quaint spot ideal for romantic or private conversations? Or do we seek a more vivacious vibe with lots of boisterous energy, laughter and fun? Rarely can you get both sides of that coin at the same restaurant, but such is the case at Nori Japanese Steakhouse, where they offer two different dine-in opportunities.

With fresh sushi, quality ingredients and signature sauces, guests enjoy an unforgettable dining experience no matter where they are seated. “We invite people to come sit at our sushi bar and enjoy your sushi made right in front

“One side of the restaurant is for hibachi where chefs prepare the food in front of you on teppanyaki grills,” says Owner Hui Zheng. “The other side is regular seating that is good for date nights or when you want a quiet dinner. Though you can still order hibachi on the quiet side of the restaurant, it’s cooked in the back rather than in front of you.” Your chosen side depends on the ambiance you are interested in. Diners who gather at a hibachi grill can watch their fresh steaks, chicken and seafood grilled to perfection. “Not only can you enjoy your food, but also, by sitting with other people at the same table, you can make new friends,” Zheng says. 38 / WESTFIELD MAGAZINE / APRIL 2022 / TownePost.com

of your eyes,” Zheng says. “Also be sure to ask your sushi chef for any specials that aren’t on the menu.” Hibachi is popular for birthday parties and other celebrations. The business is also always fully booked on prom nights, as it’s a

fun place to go for a meal before the dance. In addition, they have a private room that can accommodate up to 60 people.

as the whole sushi roll is deep fried,” Zheng says. “Those are the three most popular signature rolls that we sell.”

A local, family-owned and -operated business, Nori Japanese Steakhouse is run by Zheng, a seasoned professional whose family runs three other locations in Ohio.

“I feel so comfortable working with these people,” Zheng says. “It feels like my whole day is energized by working in the restaurant business. Plus, I personally love food.” Favorite menu items include the Buckeye roll, which has king crab mix, avocado and mango, topped with a seared, shredded tuna in eel sauce with spicy mayo. Another popular signature item is the Godzilla roll, which eel fans particularly enjoy.

The menu also includes rice noodles, egg noodles and fried rice, as well as appetizers like lobster rangoon, Japanese spring rolls, yum yum chicken, and lollipop shrimp.

“We’re from Ohio so we have restaurants in Columbus, Toledo and Lima,” Zheng says. “I picked this location after visiting Westfield last year and seeing what a great and growing area it is. Westfield is really nice, and so I decided to move here and open a fourth location.” Nori Japanese Steakhouse, which opened in late February, spans 6,000 square feet and offers seating for 180 people. Each hibachi table seats 18. When the weather warms, there is additional seating available on the patio. Zheng describes the atmosphere as modern and cozy - less traditional than his other three locations. Zheng is thrilled to be

“It tastes like barbecue chicken but has shrimp tempura and crab stick topped with eel, avocado in eel sauce, and tobiko,” Zheng says. For anyone who is hesitant to eat raw fish, he recommends the Friend roll, which has crab stick, shrimp, cream cheese and avocado, in eel sauce with spicy and sweet mayo. “With the Friend roll, everything is cooked

In the near future, the leaders at Nori Japanese Steakhouse plan to start offering lunch specials and happy hours, as they have a full bar service as well. One day per week they will have wine nights, and on hibachi nights they’ll offer buy-one-get-one-half-off sushi nights. “We will also have certain nights where it’s buy one meal and your kid’s meal will be free,” Zheng says. Down the road they also plan to offer catering and events. Nori Japanese Steakhouse is located at 3400 Nancy Street, Suite E in Westfield. MAN OF SPORT

WILLIAM KNOX HAS A PASSION FOR THE BUSINESS OF SPORTS Writer / Renee Larr Photographer / Jubilee Edgell

As director of Grand Park, William Knox helped to mold the sports facility into a sports destination. Knox served as director from 2016 to 2021. He’s now using his experiences there to run his own company, Legacy Sports Group (LSG). It’s a consulting, management and event production firm specializing in the sports tourism industry. The company assists in the management and operation of facilities, and also plans and produces both sporting and community engagement events.

Knox started consulting under the name Team Knox Strategies to provide communities the opportunity to create their own events. Team Knox Strategies transitioned to Legacy Sports Group in 2020. In 2022 Knox decided to focus his

Prior to serving as director at Grand Park, Knox served as director of sports development for Hamilton County Tourism and as director of the Hamilton County Sports Authority. “I worked in some capacity on the Grand Park project since 2000,” Knox says. “So I was involved in the sports tourism capacity for a very long time.” 42 / WESTFIELD MAGAZINE / APRIL 2022 / TownePost.com

energy full time on growing LSG. “I was able to work with the city, the mayor and the administration there to make that transition,” Knox says. “While I’m no longer director I’m still able to support efforts

at Grand Park, managing research and development.” Knox brought on former co-workers to help develop and run LSG. As part of his contractual agreement with the park, three of the staff members on his team are fully dedicated to projects for Grand Park. Many of LSG’s members have a personal background in sports as well. “In starting Legacy I was looking at how we continue to evolve and develop what was created in Westfield,” Knox says. “A lot of people think of it from the physical aspect of the campus, but what we’re looking to do is continue to transform it into a destination for sports events. This is what we call the business of sports. That’s where a lot of our focus has been the last few years.” In the future, Knox and his team at LSG hope to work with communities around the U.S. that aren’t fortunate enough to have large sports facilities. “We’re hoping to create recreational opportunities in communities that don’t have them,” he says. Knox has a bachelor of science degree in sports marketing with a minor in business from Indiana University, and started his career as director of sports marketing with the Bloomington Convention and

Visitors Bureau. Later he became director of the Hoosier Sports Corporation. In addition, he is a board member with numerous organizations including the Indy Eleven Soccer Foundation and National

Association of Sports Commissions. For more information on Legacy Sports Group, visit legacygroup.llc.

HUSTON ELECTRIC FOURTH-GENERATION COMPANY PROVIDES SERVICES THROUGH MULTIPLE DIVISIONS Writer / Renee Larr Photography Provided by Daren Short & Huston Electric

Huston Electric was founded in 1939 and is a fourth-generation, family-owned company. Huston has three locations in Kokomo, Lafayette, and Westfield, with several specialized divisions including electric, technology, generators and compressors, signs, and solar. “We opened our first location in Kokomo back in 1939,” says Corky Huston, owner of Huston Electric and Signs. “Then in the ’60s we opened our Lafayette location. We just opened our Westfield location in 2015. Each location was opened to suit our customers’ needs in those areas better.” Each division provides turnkey solutions catered to each customers’ needs. The electric division is Huston’s primary breadwinner. It has a contracting department and a service department. The business then spun off into different specialized divisions to better serve customers. “Our technology division works a lot with interactive smart boards, phone systems, communication systems, door access, and system design and integration,” says Kelli Huston, director of marketing. Huston Solar focuses on providing alternative energy solutions through solar installations and maintenance. The solar division selects the best components, warranties, and industry-leading performance models to ensure each customer’s system will produce optimally. “We started off with a lot of success in the residential market,” Kelli says. “This year we’re moving forward into more of the

commercial side of solar.” Huston Signs provides sign design and installation, sign repair, consultant work, awning services, lighting, and creative solutions. The division also includes an inhouse graphic design department that can assist customers in logo creation and overall branding efforts. The Huston family saw the potential for the Westfield market and felt it was the next logical choice in their expansion efforts. “One reason we opened this office was the growth of the area,” Corky says. “We love to support our local communities. We participate in many philanthropic sponsorships and raise money for local charities through our annual charity golf outing. We’re all about giving back to the communities who have supported our family-owned company for more than 80 years.” Currently, 7 family members work for Huston. When they first opened the Westfield location, they employed 10 to 12 people. That number has grown to 22. “As we’ve grown our market share in Westfield, we’ve had to hire additional staff,” Corky says. “We currently have about 44 / WESTFIELD MAGAZINE / APRIL 2022 / TownePost.com

80 electricians working in the area. As projects come in, we hire through the local union hall. We prioritize highquality work and safety.” Huston Electric has received many awards throughout its tenure. Kelli says the staff members feel fortunate to receive such high praise from the local community. For more information, call 317-804-9009 or visit hustonelectric.com.

Three reasons why a mammogram is an important part of your preventive health

1

A mammogram can save your life. Early detection of breast cancer can increase a woman’s five-year survival rate to 97%.

2

It doesn’t take much time. Mammograms are a quick procedure, only taking about 20 minutes.

3

Your risk of developing breast cancer increases as you age. The older you get, the more you are at risk of developing breast cancer. That’s why mammograms aren’t a one-and-done test.

Mammograms are vital to your health and longevity as a woman. Indiana University Health recommends routine screening mammography to improve the likelihood of detecting breast cancer early. If you have specific questions about your level of risk for breast cancer, schedule an appointment with your primary care provider.

Our Safe Care Pledge Rest assured your safety is our utmost priority. At IU Health, we want to assure you that we are taking thoughtful steps to make sure our spaces remain safe for everyone. How we’re keeping you safe at each IU Health care facility:
