IN THE RED ZONE: COLTS RETURN TO GRAND PARK FOR TRAINING CAMP WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR 2019
The Indianapolis Colts have multiple reasons to be optimistic about their upcoming season. After a 1-5 start last year the team went on to notch a 10-6 record, earning their first playoff spot since 2014 in the process and becoming the third team in the league’s history to make the playoffs after starting with a 1-5 record.

Jimmy Cox, president of Westfield Young Professionals, says volunteers who join the city’s wonderful organization of business men and women will not be disappointed.
Cox noted that there are some fun activities ahead. Westfield Young Professionals typically meet on the first Thursday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at various locations.
“We will also meet at 8 p.m. on Saturday, “Through involvement with Westfield July 13 for trivia night at Grand Junction Young Professionals, a member can expand Tap Room. Cox noted that Westfield Young Professionals is a committee under the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, which was started in 2013. “It was decided back then that the chamber needed to do a better job of connecting to young people, so a few of the board members and volunteers organized to form Westfield Young Professionals,” Cox says. “You do not have to be a member of the chamber to be involved in the group.” Cox added that the best part of the group is that you meet other young professionals and older professionals. He joined in 2017 and was immediately eager to return. He enjoys serving as the organization’s president. “Personally, I have made new friends, and professionally, I have formed new business relationships that have positively affected my work,” Cox says.
The age group of Westfield Young Professionals is post college to 40. “There is a lot of potential to engage more young professionals,” Cox says. Cox believes the business community in Westfield is growing and will continue to expand over the next five to 10 years. “It’s our hope that more young professionals will get involved so they can have a say in how the community grows, and what businesses should move to Westfield,” Cox says. “We encourage all professionals to engage with us and attend our events. Stay up to date on what we’re doing through our website and social media presence.” For more information about the Westfield Young Professionals group, visit their website at www. westfieldyoungprofessionals.com. “Wow — I find it hard to believe that I’m approaching 25 years in banking,” says Bonnie Riley, Assistant Vice President & Branch Manager at the new Community First Bank in Westfield, which just opened its doors in April.
ground level,” says Riley, who spent 10 years working in various capacities, including the lending department as an Assistant Credit Supervisor in the Ag & Commercial division. That was her first introduction to lending. Then she took a job in Lafayette for a large mass market bank where she learned very quickly that decisions weren’t made locally.
“I started as a baby teller in small-town USA at Kentland Bank in Kentland, Indiana, learning the industry from the

realized that I didn’t really care for that.” When her daughter was expecting her first baby, Riley moved to the sunshine state to help out during the transition period. She worked at a large bank in Tampa before relocating to Austin, Texas and later to Indianapolis where she became Assistant Manager in the Westfield & Carmel market. In 2017, she was named Assistant Vice President and Banking Center Manager where she served as operational leader, actively participating in the marketing and
development efforts. “When I moved to Indy, I thought It was a temporary stop, but here I am 11 years later,” says Riley, who couldn’t be happier about joining the team at Community First. “Local banking is my wheelhouse,” Riley says. “There’s a huge difference between commercial and local banking.” She’s been at commercial banks during mergers, which she describes as unnerving. “You don’t know what’s happening,” she says. “But with community banking, I know and love my clients.” Having built a reputation on excellence in client service and fostering strong relationships with her business partners, at Community First, Riley takes the time to understand her clients’ needs. When she first met with the team at Community First, right from the get-go, she felt valued. “Taking the job at Community First, I felt like I was going home,” says Riley, who appreciated how involved the bank was with the community. For instance, Community First is getting ready to make a large contribution to the local YMCA. As someone who graduated from the Hamilton County Leadership Academy, was ambassador at One Zone Chamber and has been a student mentor with the Starfish Initiative, which encourages academically promising but economically disadvantaged high school students for college and career success, Riley is eager to dive into more communitybuilding relationships. Actively involved in the local Chambers of Commerce, Riley is also a former board member of Prom Genie, Inc., a local non-profit organization. The explosive growth that is happening in Westfield excites Riley.
“I LOVE COMMUNITY FIRST BANK OF INDIANA AND THE FACT THEY CHOSE WESTFIELD TO ESTABLISH THEIR LOCAL PRESENCE.” BONNIE RILEY, ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT & BRANCH MANAGER
“I love Community First Bank of Indiana and the fact they chose Westfield to establish their local presence,” Riley says. “I’m excited to build new relationships and to help clients with their financial service needs.” As automation moves more into the mainstream of everyday life, Riley feels even more passionate about making genuine connections with people.

“I can’t imagine going into a bank where machines are guiding you through transactions,” Riley says. “I can’t even stand when you call an office and get an impersonal recording. Sometimes your need doesn’t fit in the bucket of five options that are given. I think others feel the same. They want to see and talk to a live person. That’s what we’re able to offer.”

Community First even has a Travel Club that is hugely popular, especially among the elderly. Riley attended their first meeting, which filled an arena. “The person heading that up greeted everyone by name as they came through the door,” Riley says. “It was very personalized, which is special.” In her free time, Riley loves everything outdoors — especially mountain biking and running. She has participated in two full marathons and typically does two half-marathons a year.

The Italian House on Park WESTFIELD FAVORITE HAS SERVED UP ITALIAN FARE FOR NEARLY 4 YEARS
Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Ellie Sophia Photography
The Italian House on Park, Westfield’s upscale-casual, Italian-inspired eatery, is the result of a momentary, serendipitous occurrence experienced by its owner. Several years ago, while considering the idea of opening a slightly upscale establishment to complement his more casual Wolfies Grill locations around the city, Scott Wolf was visiting a friend who owns the
Westfield property where Rail Restaurant & Bar is located. During his visit to Rail, Wolf ’s glance eventually fell on a particular 1950s house he immediately thought could be transformed into a quaint, intimate restaurant.
House on Park and a veteran of the Central Indiana restaurant business for nearly four decades. “Scott’s an entrepreneur, and since he was interested in doing an upscale theme he started researching Italian dining after looking at the property where we are.”
“Scott was actually thinking of doing an upscale bar concept on the top floor of Rail, and he was there standing on that second floor looking out the window and saw that the house next door was available,” says Jim Nethercott, general manager of The Italian
The result is a concept that blends traditional Italian fare with unique dishes and appetizers as well as an extensive wine and cocktail list. According to Nethercott, it’s the fact that the establishment isn’t exactly a traditional Italian restaurant that
WestfieldMag.com / JULY 2019 / WESTFIELD MAGAZINE / 13
makes it stand out. “We try to offer a good sampling of traditional Italian — lasagna, spaghetti with meatballs, chicken and veal parmesan — but we also have our meat and fresh fish dishes like our halibut piccata, which is just unbelievably good,” he says. “So we want to be authentic but we also want to reach out to the people who just want a good meal and good service.” Appetizers include charcuterie, shrimp cocktail, fried ravioli and calamari, and you’ll find plenty of meat and seafood entrées as well as pastas like linguini with shrimp scampi, penne with tomato cream sauce and angel hair with eggplant parmesan. Everything on The Italian House menu is made from scratch, and daily appetizer and entrée specials are also offered. Those dining in find themselves amidst a warm, rich color scheme, wood accents and a few touches added during the renovation process including stuccoed walls and arched doorways. The house itself, which consists of three dining rooms, seats 55 people, and there’s room for 48 in the back bar and another 60 on the patio. “We decided early on that we didn’t want to be formal exactly, and we wanted to be perceived as noncorporate,” Nethercott explains. “Our staff is responsibly trained to offer a level of service that you don’t get at corporate restaurants. We have people coming in twice a week, and we can also accommodate anniversaries, rehearsal dinners and special days.” The drink menu is made up of house cocktails as well as a red and white wine list that is about 80% Italian, curated and continually adjusted by Nethercott. In his observation as general manager, Nethercott feels the timing of his restaurant’s appearance in Westfield is fortuitous given the area’s rapid growth and economic development in recent years. 14 / WESTFIELD MAGAZINE / JULY 2019 / WestfieldMag.com
“Fifteen years ago if you said you were going to Westfield, the response would be, ‘Who do you know there and why are you going?’” he says with a laugh. “There wasn’t a lot to offer. So getting our name out at the start was a challenge and it took a while to build momentum.” Nethercott says word has steadily spread about The Italian House, and he sees an increasing number of patrons from all across Indy in addition to Westfield residents. “It’s been fun getting to know a lot of locals, and I also think I’ve met all the people who’ve lived in the house over the years,” Nethercott says. “They’ll come in and tell us what the rooms used to be used for. They love what’s been done with the building.” The Italian House on Park is located at 219 Park Street In Westfield. Nevertheless, Running Back Nyheim Hines, who joined the Colts last season after playing at North Carolina State,
says the team’s approach moving into the fall is focusing on steady collective improvement, rather than setting specific goals for their regular season record or playoff advancement. “I’ve been on a lot of football teams throughout my life and last year was probably the most group-oriented team I’ve played for,” Hines says. “We didn’t hang our heads or blame each other when we were 1-5. We just all held each other accountable. Now the expectations are higher but we’re still holding each other accountable and everybody’s doing their part. Hines became third overall in receptions for rookies with 63 catches during the 20182019 season — third in Colts franchise history, which is fairly impressive for a running back — and attributes his success to a diligent study of how his position fits in with the Colts’ overall offensive approach. “For me it was learning more about how the offense works and tuning in when coach was talking about routes, he says. “I was always taking notes because even when coach was talking to T.Y. (Hilton) I knew I might be out there at some point. And staying tuned in to what Andrew (Luck) likes, because whatever Andrew tells you to do, that’s what you do.”
“WE REALLY HAVE HAD A GREAT RECEPTION FROM THE PEOPLE HERE AT GRAND PARK. THERE HAVE BEEN REALLY GOOD VIBES ALL AROUND THE LAYOUT. THIS FEELS LIKE IT’S A HIGH-QUALITY NFL TRAINING CAMP BEING TREATED RIGHT.” - FRANK REICH -
Linebacker Anthony Walker, who finished second in tackles for the Colts last season, says the team never lost confidence in each other even during the 1-5 start. “We established good camaraderie during training camp, and we knew we had the right guys in the locker room and the leaders to turn things around after things didn’t start the way we wanted them to,” says Walker, now in his third season with the Colts. “We were in the playoff mindset even when we were 1-5, so after that you can’t lose a game and we knew that.” In August, the Colts will head to Grand Park Sports Campus for the second year in a row for their official training camp, and Hines says training at the venue last year was a refreshing change of pace. “It was pretty cool to get away from 56th Street and go somewhere else,” he says. “The Westfield facility is nice. I’ve had friends who have had basketball tournaments there. I don’t know if our 56th Street facility could hold all the fans that came out, so it was good to be up there and I’m excited to be back there. And it’s cool for the fans to see how hard we’re working and get the first glimpse of the team before our preseason games.” 18 / WESTFIELD MAGAZINE / JULY 2019 / WestfieldMag.com
The Colts face the Buffalo Bills on August 8 for their first preseason game and will host the Cleveland Browns for a few joint practices prior to their preseason matchup. Head Coach Frank Reich says Grand Park provides an optimal setting for his players to prepare mentally and physically. “This is an exciting place,” Reich says of the facility. “We really have had a great reception from the people here at Grand Park. There have been really good vibes all around the layout. This feels like it’s a high-quality NFL training camp being treated right.” There is no charge to attend the training camp at Grand Park, but attendees must procure a ticket to enter. “You want to use that time at training camp to connect with your brothers, and the Grand Park facility allowed us to do that last year,” Walker says. “Camp is hard and
it’s supposed to be hard, but we had a lot of fun with the walk to practice every day and seeing the fans. I’m looking forward to it again this year.” Hines reiterates that the team isn’t focusing on specific long-term playoff goals at this point but rather day-to-day progress as the regular season approaches. “We’re just talking about how we’re going
to get back to that level of play in the Division Round when we lost last season,” he says. “We’re not talking about making it to the playoffs or going 10-6 again. We’re talking about getting one percent better every day. Every day is an opportunity to get better.” For a full schedule of Indianapolis Colts training camp events and ticketing info, visit grandpark.org/sports/colts.

favorite teacher, is Erin McKinney, a math teacher at Westfield High School. Not only was she an amazing teacher, and helped me find a new passion in math, but she also was, and still is, an amazing friend and mentor,” Eggleston says. “Mrs. McKinney has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life,” she adds. “To this day, I try and see her at least once a week just to say hello or have a conversation. It is not only Mrs. McKinney at Westfield, but there are so many teachers like her. I know so many students that have a relationship similar to mine with a teacher and those relationships will stick with the students for the rest of their lives.” Eggleston says Student Impact of Westfield has also helped her tremendously. “I attend Student Impact every Monday and Friday and volunteer as an intern/ student leader every Tuesday and Thursday,” Eggleston says. “I love everything about this organization. I love the people who run it and attend it, what they stand for, what they do for Westfield, and everything in between.

As of right now, I volunteer nine or more hours a week, and love every minute.” Eggleston also says she loves living in Westfield. “I have always felt safe and secure while being in Westfield,” she says. “I love the amenities and opportunities available. I love that Westfield has fun things to do with friends, and also fun things to do with family.” She believes Student Impact is a big part of that. Danyele Easterhaus, executive director of Student Impact of Westfield, says says she is thrilled Eggleston has been recognized.
WESTFIELD STUDENT HEADED TO WEST POINT
“I feel extremely humbled and honored to win,” Eggleston says. “My high school journey has been far from easy. During Student Impact, 536 North Union Street, my freshman year, I was diagnosed with Zionsville, is a safe place where students Crohn’s Disease, and missed a lot of school from grades 5-12 can build relationships because of it. Eggleston plans to study zoology in college. “Ever since I can remember, my favorite thing has always been animals, particularly of the mammal species, but still animals in general,” Eggleston says. “My dream job has always been something to do with animals, whether that was a veterinarian or a zoo keeper, I did not really know, but I knew it had to be with animals.
Kalvin Kingshill, the Westfield Student of the Month, was thrilled when he found out he would be attending The United States Military Academy, otherwise known as West Point.
“Once I started trying to narrow down my dream job, I knew I did not want to be a veterinarian, but that is about all I could figure out. I hope one day I can figure out what career I want, but for now, I know it must be working with animals.” Eggleston noted that Westfield has some of the best teachers.

“When I heard that I was accepted, I felt extremely honored, and very relieved,” Kingshill says. “Even though I have not considered West Point or the armed forces as a serious option for much more than a year, it meant very much to me to receive my appointment, because I had worked so hard in the gym, and in the classroom for an opportunity like this.”

“Almost every single teacher I have had since first grade I have really liked. Kingshill credits old friends and coaches for inspiring him.
“The STEM field has always interested me, and I would love to continue studying it,” he says. “Luckily, I do not have to choose a major until the end of my first year, so I have some time to decide.”
“While my inspiration to persevere in gymnastics has come from many places, I was especially influenced by a former coach of mine, Gene Watson,” Kingshill says. “He is the coach I have trained with West Point’s academic program for the longest period of time, and he combines a Bachelor of Science degree showed me that there was always a way with a curriculum that grades cadets’ performance, and mandatory participation to work harder, and that there was no limit to how much I could achieve in the in competitive athletics. sport. Kingshill knows he will take Westfield with him wherever he goes. “I have always loved Westfield because it is such a friendly, inviting place,” he says. “I have lived in Westfield my whole life, and I have noticed that the city is constantly improving and innovating, and trying to become the best that it can be. I see Westfield as a great example to follow when striving to better myself, and an even better place to grow up.” Kingshill added that his parents were tremendously helpful and encouraging throughout his entire recruiting and application process. “They both are always looking for ways to help me prepare, and they do everything in their power to assist me in completing all of the tasks required of a cadet candidate. I am not sure that I would have made it this far without them.”
