SUN KING BREWERY COMING TO WESTFIELD

The City of Westfield and Old Town Companies have proudly announced Sun King Brewery as the first tenant for the new Union Square development at State Road 32 and Union Street. Sun King, a prominent player in the Indiana craft beer scene since 2019, is expanding its footprint to Westfield in line with its dedication to brewing excellence and community involvement.

The planned Sun King facility in Westfield is set to include a sizable, welcoming taproom, food hall, and a large outdoor patio with views of Grand Junction Plaza. It is designed to attract craft beverage lovers and families alike and will offer a variety of Sun King’s award-winning beers, from staple core and seasonal selections to experimental brews and handcrafted signature cocktails.

The Westfield location will feature over 400 seats, with nearly half of them on the patio overlooking the plaza, promising a vibrant social space for locals and visitors. The most unique element will be the rotation and repurpose of the historic fire station as the entryway into the brewery. Mayor Scott Willis expressed excitement about the development, anticipating that Sun King will serve as a cornerstone for Union Square and catalyze further development, enhancing the downtown area and significantly boosting the local community.

DOWNTOWN WESTFIELD VISION

Over the next several years, downtown Westfield is poised for a remarkable transformation. With new residential and commercial projects on the horizon, the area will become a vibrant hub of activity, attracting residents and businesses alike. People will truly be able to live, work, and play in downtown Westfield. Enhanced infrastructure and amenities will improve quality of life, creating inviting spaces for social gatherings and family outings. These representational renderings showcase how Park Street will be preserved yet enhanced, as well as the south side of Jersey Street. Residents and visitors can expect multi-use developments on the north side of Jersey Street and south of the Midland Trace Trail, adding additional restaurants, shopping, and parking garages.

MAYOR’S COLUMN

Westfield Residents,

When you receive this newsletter, my administration will have been in office for just six short months.

The next three and a half years will be a journey of progress, collaboration, and community spirit, and I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve you.

One of my primary goals is to continue investing in the development of the city’s infrastructure. We are committed to enhancing our roads and trail system to ensure that Westfield remains a city that is accessible and convenient for all. In April, we unveiled the city’s firstever Capital Improvement Plan, which you can read more about on the following pages. We aim to create a modern, eco-friendly urban environment by fostering sustainable practices and embracing technological advancements.

I am excited about Westfield’s potential for economic growth, especially in our urban core. By attracting new businesses and supporting existing ones, we can create job opportunities and strengthen our local economy. We can also create opportunities for people to live, work, and play in downtown Westfield.

Additionally, community engagement and enhanced communication will be at the forefront of our efforts – which is one reason you’re reading this. We will continue supporting local initiatives, events, and organizations that unite us as a community. We aim to do this while increasing the frequency and quality of our communications. You will see more consistent updates from the city and friendlier navigation on our website.

The next four years present us with a unique opportunity to shape the future of Westfield, and I am committed to leading with integrity, transparency, and a genuine desire to serve our community.

Thank you for entrusting me with the responsibility of being your Mayor. Let us work hand in hand to build a Westfield that we can all be proud of.

In service,

Mayor Scott Willis

WESTFIELD CITY COUNCIL APPROVES NORTHPOINT II PUD

The Westfield City Council approved the NorthPoint II PUD, a significant 180-acre development by Holladay Properties on State Road 38 near Anthony Road. This initiative, marking a $16 million investment in its initial phase, is projected to achieve an assessed value of $175 million upon completion. This development is a strategic part of Mayor Scott Willis’s plan to diversify and expand Westfield’s commercial tax base.

The first phase of the NorthPoint project, encompassing 300 acres, was successfully completed between 2019 and 2022. The current phase aims to further develop the State Road 38 corridor, a critical area targeted for economic growth. This decision follows a previously unsuccessful attempt in 2022, after which Mayor Willis and a neighborhood task force group spent five months engaging to address concerns and reach a consensus on the project.

Mayor Willis highlighted the importance of the investment and the anticipated tax revenue, underscoring their essential role in ensuring Westfield’s sustained growth and economic resilience.

MEET YOUR COUNCIL MEMBERS

LETTER FROM PATRICK TAMM, COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Dear Residents,

Reflecting on the first quarter, I’m proud to highlight our council’s achievements.

Our council has been tirelessly working to address the needs and concerns of our residents. From infrastructure improvements to fostering economic growth, we have held numerous meetings and engaged in constructive dialogues to ensure transparency and accountability in our decision-making process.

In our first month, we collaborated with the Mayor and his team to approve the first significant corporate investment in Westfield in recent years. Isotopia’s investment in Westfield will bring more life science companies to our community and will establish their first U.S.-based company manufacturing facility for cancer treatment isotopes.

We have also partnered to create a much-needed Parks Department and Board. With that, we’ve enabled access to state and federal grants for park and trail expansion—a long-awaited move for residents. We’re also committed to enhancing trail safety, starting with a tunnel construction at 161st Street and the Monon.

Looking ahead, we’re optimistic about future progress. With dedication and teamwork, we’re committed to making our city an even better place to live, work, and thrive.

Thank you for your support; feel free to contact me or any of our council members with any questions or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Jon Dartt

WESTFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT

CELEBRATES NEW STATION 81 FIREHOUSE & HEADQUARTERS

On April 20, the Westfield Fire Department unveiled its new Station 81 Firehouse and Headquarters. To show appreciation for the community’s support, the department hosted a family-friendly open house, inviting everyone to join in the celebration of its new location.

This state-of-the-art firehouse is a 36,000-square-foot building with eight bays. It will house an engine equipped with 750 gallons of water, ready to respond to any emergency. The enhanced facilities, including a new training tower, physical fitness facilities, living quarters, fleet services, and administrative offices, are all designed to ensure safety and efficiency.

WESTFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES REACCREDITATION FROM CALEA

The Westfield Police Department was recently awarded national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

CALEA President Marcus Brown and Executive Director Craig Hartley awarded WPD reaccreditation, which signifies excellence in public safety and commitment to the community. This is the department’s third national accreditation award.

“We’ve continued to tell the story that the men and women of the Westfield Police Department are some of the best in public safety, and this reaccreditation with CALEA confirms what we already knew,” stated Mayor Scott Willis.

PUBLIC WORKS FAQS

Q: When will my neighborhood be repaved?

A: Typically, for a public residential street, you can expect roughly 15 to 20 years between major rehabilitation work on the roadway.

Q: I live in a subdivision with a private road. Who replaces that?

A: The neighborhood HOA is responsible for repaving and repairing privately owned roads.

Q: What are those black lines on the roads?

A: Those are a maintenance solution called crack sealing. They help prolong the life of the roadway.

Q: How do potholes get repaired?

A: The quickest way to notify the Public Works Department about a pothole is to use the Report It! tool on the city’s website. It is located on the home page.

Q: I put in a request to have my sidewalk repaired. Why didn’t it get fixed?

A: There are a couple of reasons that could be. It could be a private sidewalk; the city only fixes public sidewalks. If it is a public sidewalk, the city only repairs for trip hazards, not cosmetic issues.

Q: My street sign is damaged. What do I do?

A: Just like roads and sidewalks, the city is only responsible for city street signs. These are typically green with a galvanized post. If it’s a decorative street sign, that is the responsibility of your HOA. If a city street sign is damaged, please use the Report It! tool.
