Ever since Clay Winters was young, heating, ventilation and air conditioning service has been a part of his life. “I got into the business when I was 14 years old - I was always riding around with my dad in a truck,” says Winters, whose father Alan founded Control Tech Heating and Air Conditioning in 1983. “Basically, both of my parents were in the business, so it was one of those things where HVAC was what we ate, slept and breathed.” Located in Zionsville, Control Tech still prides itself on being a family-owned operation to this day, offering customers a high level of service on a regular basis. Serving Indianapolis and its surrounding communities, the company primarily sticks to residential heating and cooling,
while occasionally venturing into commercial service. Originally a twoman operation, Control Tech now has more than 50 employees, with 40 trucks currently out on the road. According to Winters, quality, education, and personable service has always been at the core of Control Tech. “The whole reason my dad went into business for himself was because he was working for another company, and it was all about volume and numbers,” Winters says. “They were all about finding something wrong on every job, and he didn’t agree with that. Essentially, that’s why he got into business for himself.” Both graduates of Zionsville Community High School, Winters and his father have always chosen to keep the business in Zionsville, simply because it is home.
