Read More NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealing to the clerics of Barelvi sect among the Muslim Sunni community to step up their efforts to counter extremism, the clerics have raised a clarion call against the Wahabi ideology and demanded the government to clear the Waqf Boards across the country off the control of Wahabi elements. An antiterrorism Sunni conference organised by All India Tanzeem Ulama e Islam (AITUI) in the national capital on Monday spewed venom against the Wahabi ideology and cautioned the community against the radicalisation being funded by the Saudi and Qatar petrodollars.

After PM Modi's appeal, Barelvi Sufis hit out against Wahabism in India Times of India
"AITUI clearly states that this radicalisation is being spread within Muslim community like a virus by Wahabi elements funded by Petro dollars of Saudi Arabia & Qatar ... AITU wants to highlight the fact that ISIS is active in Indian under different names and banners. These ISIS fronts are organising conferences, and programmes to show their presence in India to their Saudi and Qatarbased funders and to assure them that they are present in India and working for the vested interests of Wahabis Monarchies of Saudi Arabia & Qatar," declared the conference of Barelvi clerics at Talkatora Stadium in the national capital while demanding the government to ban organisations promoting Wahabi and Salafi objectives.

"We want to say that these radical organisations are working for Wahabi and Salafi objective of radicalising youth in the name of social revolution. AITUI demand that the activities of these extremist organisations be banned as they are working against national security," the conference demanded, asserting that "Wahabism is part of dirty politics and has nothing to do with Islam". The impressive gathering of Sufi Sunni Muslim community members in the national capital, in this backdrop, also pitched its battle against the dominance of Wahabi or Deobandi followers in the affairs of Waqf Boards and minority educational institutions and prevalence of their teaching through various forms in the country. The gathering holds significance in wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to members of Barelvi sect to counter extremism by way of Sufi version of Islam "In his remarks during a meeting with a delegation of 40 Barelvi Sufi Scholars from various parts of the country this evening, the Prime Minister said that forces of extremism are attempting to weaken the Sufi ideology today. He added that it is essential for Sufi saints and scholars to counter these forces through various avenues including on social media, so that the ideology of extremism does not take root in India," a government communique had revealed about Prime Minister's appeal to the community of Barelvi Sufi scholars in their meeting in August last year. While the August communique by government did not refer to Wahabi ideology, the gathering of Barelvi Sufi clerics in the national capital today launched a tirade against the Wahabi ideology and sought government action to contain the followers of Wahabi sect in Waqf Boards among other things. The radicalization among the Muslims can be countered by Moderate and sane Sufis only. The Muslims must realize that Khwaza Moinuddin Chisti is respected and his Mazar at Azmer is visited even by Hindus, and there is no ill feeling about him. The Islamic terrorism will only alienate the Muslims, increase mistrust about them & lead to their destruction. 17 2 • Reply • • Flag Find this comment offensive? Making of a jihadi: How Mudabbir Mushtaq Shaikh became Indian face of Islamic State Rahul Tripathi | ET Bureau | Feb 9, 2016, 12.03 PM IST
The Economic Times accesses interrogation details of Mudabbir and those he recruited to piece together the spread of IS in India. NEW DELHI: 'Musab' in Arabic means 'bull'. This was the nomdeguerre for Islamic State (IS) chief in India, 33yearold Mudabbir Mushtaq Shaikh who was better known as 'Abu Musab'. He was given this name by his Syriabased handler Shafi Armar alias 'Yousuf' who is fouryear younger to him and is described as an ally of Abu BakralBaghdadi, the dreaded IS chief. Mudabbir was arrested along with 13 others by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) last month that also marked the arrival of IS in India. The Economic Times accesses interrogation details of Mudabbir and those he recruited to piece together the spread of IS in India. The first part traces the journey of Mudabbir, India's IS chief, from a student in early 2000 at Nalasopara to being the emir of JanoodulKhalidalHind, the IS inspired radical outfit.

After PM Modi's appeal, Barelvi Sufis hit out against Wahabism in India Times of India
EARLY DAYS Born on October 13, 1982 at communally sensitive Bheendi Bazar, Mudabbir graduated from Akbar Peerbhoy College in Nagpada in Mumbai in 2003. He also did a course in web programming from St. Angelo institute in Nalasopara. Mudabbir got married in 201011 and has two daughters aged 5 years and 5 months respectively. He was staying with his wife Uzma and two daughters at a rented flat in Mumbra from where the NIA arrested him. THE YEAR 9/11 HAPPENED Mudabbir's parents stay at Nalasopara with his younger sister. Before his marriage, Mudabbir did his class X from Z B Zakariya English high school at Nalasopra. He then did his XII from M H Saboo Siddiq College at Nagpada where his vocational subject was electrical. It was around this time that Osama Bin Laden led alQaeda carried out the attacks on US soon after which US invaded Afghanistan. "I was disturbed after the 2001 attack as everyone labelled Muslims as terrorists. I went under depression," Mudabbir is believed to have told his interrogators. The development seems to have left a deep scar on his mind as Mudabbir started reading about the "atrocities being committed with Muslims all over the world." By 2003, Mudabbir did his graduation as well as web designing course and started teaching computer at a private institute to support the family. Till 2005, he worked as computer teacher but left the job after he got a job as web designer with Computree Infotech Limited at Goregaon. The job, however, didn't last for more than six months. "Thereafter, I worked as flash developer in Image online company at Vikroli at Mumbai till 2007," says his interrogation details. Then 25, Mudabbir got a decent break when he got a job as new product development manager in Sportz Interactive, Goregaon where he worked for nearly 5 years before being shunted due to his poor performance in December 2012. Mudabbir also dabbled into properties and construction business but the venture could not take off. INDOCTRINATION OF IS After losing his job, Mudabbir started working from home and used to freelance for different companies. Around this time, he started reading about Islamic State of Syria and Levant (ISIL), floated by Baghdadi. "While searching on the internet regarding Caliphate, I came across the profile of Yousuf and we became friends on facebook," says Mudabbir. YousufalHindi, according to intelligence agencies is none other than Shafi Armar, who hails from Bhatkal and was part of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) under Riyaz Bhatkal. Shafi along with his elder brother Sultan fled to Pakistan in 2008 after a crackdown on IM. They later migrated to Afghanistan to fight NATO forces and floated Ansarul Tawhid (AuT) that pledged its allegiance to Islamic State. While Sultan was killed during the fight with security forces last year, Shafi is believed to have shifted to Syria and taken over the role of talent hunter for IS in India. Indian agencies, however, also suspect that Shafi is being used by Pakistan's ISI to recruit in the name of Islamic State and then carry out terror attacks in India, a charge that is yet to be established. Mudabbir, according to sleuths knows Hindi, Urdu, English and Marathi and has so far motivated close to two dozen young men to join the IS inspired pan India outfit, JanoodeKhalifaalHind. Described of "sound" economic background, the agency found nearly Rs 10 lakhs deposited in his various bank accounts. He had bank accounts in his name at SBI, The South Indian Bank, Canara bank and Vasai Janata Sahakari bank. At the time of his arrests, NIA seized Rs 1.95 lakh that was part of the Rs 6.50 lakh given to him through hawala by his Syriabased handler, Armar. Mudabbir, according to his interrogation details received the first consignment of Rs 4.80 lakhs at Zaveri Bazar and second consignment of Rs 1 lakhs at JJ Marg through a hawala operator. He also told his interrogators that he had distributed the money among his associates at Mumbai, Lucknow and Aurangabad on the instructions of Yousuf. TERROR MEETINGS The selfstyled chief of IS in India, Mudabbir met one Rizwan alias Khalid, a juvenile, who hails from Kushinagar in UP in January 2015. The two were brought together by Yousuf and the meeting took place at Panvel in Mumbai. The duo then left for Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and stayed at Deoband Masjid. The first meeting of the newly formed outfit is said to have taken place at Saharanpur with an aim to exploit the atmosphere created soon after the communal riots in the town. Five others who were identified by Mudabbir attended the meeting. While two have come from Lucknow, one person identified as Zarar (22) came from Hyderabad and two others from Mumbai. All of them were radicalized by Yousuf after online scouting. According to Mudabbir, "the meeting was held to delegate the responsibilities of each person of the group but nothing could materialise as Yousuf told them that they will decide about it later." "The ideology of the group seems to be fighting against the atrocities http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/AfterPMModisappealBarelviSufishitoutagainstWahabisminIndia/articleshow/50912992.cms?intenttarget=no…

committed by US, Britain and France. For them, Indian government was target because it is an ally of west. The group wanted to establish the rule of Shariah in India," an official explained. PREPARATION OF BOMBS The first assignment of JanoodeKhalifaalHind was to cause bomb blasts at important places, reveals the questioning of Mudabbir. "As per the plan, I purchased match boxes, a soldering machine and mobile with intention to carry bombs blasts," Mudabbir said during his interrogation. Investigators also found that Mudabbir used to communicate with other members of the group using 'Trillian' and 'Surespot' messenger applications which according to him had an additional layer of encryption thus making it difficult for security agencies to track. After his arrest, NIA seized 7 mobile phones, 3 pamphlets related to JamiatUlemaeMaharashtra, 4 DVDs, 1 wire cutter, 19 Match box and soldering machine. The aim, according to Mudabbir for establishing IS in India was to fight in India like IS is fighting in Syria and Iraq. While describing the structure of Janoodulkhalifa alHind, Mudabbir said that there were three senior positions where he was the 'emir', Rizwan alias Khalid as 'naib emir' and Najmal Huda from Bengaluru as 'emir askary' (battalion commander). The group also had plans to set up a media wing with units in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, Allahabad, Uttrakhand and Azamgarh. RSS to train 250 social mediasavvy members on February 20 to spread ‘Ayodhya message' Vasudha Venugopal | ET Bureau | Feb 9, 2016, 11.53 AM IST

Read More NEW DELHI: Ram Mandir on Twitter —Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is planning an intensive training session on the Ayodhya issue for members and sympathisers on social media. Titled 'Ram Mandir —A Reality', the session will happen on February 20. RSS leaders, who wished anonymity, said the session is a result of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent call to up the ante on Ram Mandir. RSS is no stranger to social media training sessions. It has held similar sessions on the intolerance debate and Article 370. The registration form circulated among swayamsevaks requires them to compulsorily fill up their contact details and information on what social media platforms — Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp — they are most active on. The sessions, said organisers, will be handled by fellow travellers who have a significant following on Twitter."The idea is to put out facts...court orders, findings by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and even statements by Muslims who admit that Ayodhya being the birthplace of Ram needs to have the temple. When such information is posted or tweeted, people will get to know what the reality is," a pracharak, who wished to remain anonymous, told ET. RSS members organising the event said over 1,000 people have already registered and they expect the number to go up. But only 250 people will be chosen for the Ram Mandir session. "We want people who are really active on social media and who can use facts given to them to persuade Internet audiences. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/AfterPMModisappealBarelviSufishitoutagainstWahabisminIndia/articleshow/50912992.cms?intenttarget=no…

Also, depending on what social media tool they use, they could be given relevant material," the pracharak quoted earlier said. Last month, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had urged people to come together to build the temple. "The temple will be built within my lifetime... We need to plan it carefully... (we need) a good mix of 'josh' and 'hosh'," Bhagwat had said. After the speech, RSS' official Twitter handle sent out tweets quoting Bhagwat on the issue. One tweet was about Somnath temple getting rebuilt with the "efforts" of then Home Minister Sardar Patel. Sangh outfit Vishva Hindu Parishad is also doing its bit to try and inject some momentum into the Ram Mandir campaign. It is organising exhibitions on Ayodhya, displaying images of what it calls is ancient Ayodhya and of ASI excavations. Three former ASI directors had taken part in a recent VHP seminar on the Ram temple. ET view: 'Ram Rajya' Instead of a Ram Mandir For a country that has no dearth of Ram mandirs, building the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya as part of a longstanding political 'dare' is incidental. Building the proverbial 'Ram Rajya', however, is what this country should be getting busy with. To build a prayer room at the cost of erecting a building is not just anachronistic, but also harmful as it takes the focus away from real challenges. For the RSS to assert its virtues as as social and cultural organisation working for the good of the nation, it should utilise its impressive network to help build this Ram Rajya, and not be refixated on a Ram Mandir proscribed by geography and ideology. Men spend more than women on Valentine's Day: Survey IANS | Feb 9, 2016, 11.28 AM IST
(Representative image) NEW DELHI: Amid the growing craze for Valentine's Day celebrations, men end up spending more to pamper their loved one than women, reveals a survey. Giftease.com, an Indian gifting portal conducted the online suvey with 3000 respondents across different age groups (18 to 45 years) from metropolitan cities to decode the country's passion for Valentine's Day, which falls on February 14. The survey shines the light on the ideas, behaviour and gifting patterns that are expected this Valentine's Day. Almost 68 per cent of respondents stated their intent to celebrate Valentine's Day in some manner, with 37 per cent planning time with their Valentine alone, 22 percent http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/AfterPMModisappealBarelviSufishitoutagainstWahabisminIndia/articleshow/50912992.cms?intenttarget=no…

with their friends, and 8 percent looking forward to their first date this Valentine's. While VDay is seemingly more popular amongst women, the survey reveals that on an average, men plan to spend over Rs.740 on gifts which is higher than women who are looking at an average gift spend of Rs.670 this Valentine's. Also, there's a large variation between the preferred gifts for men and women. Most men plan to play safe with flowers (42 per cent) or chocolates (27 per cent) but a significant number (17 per cent) are getting more adventurous, and plan to gift something naughty. The top three gifts in the women's list for their Valentines are gadgets (34 per cent), perfumes (19 per cent) or accessories (16 per cent). Interestingly, naughty gifts are still fairly low in the list of gifts to give, for women. As many as 41 per cent of men, and 30 percent of women intend to send their VDay gifts through online shopping sites or apps. Whatever it may be, a Valentine 's Day gift is expected, with one in seven women saying they would even break their relationship if they do not receive a Valentine's gift this year, as per the survey. Also, it is rather motivating for married women to note that 41 per cent of married men preplan for Valentine's Day as compared to 31 per cent unmarried men who prepare in advance for their girlfriends. Ashish Chandani, chief operating officer and cofounder, Giftease.com, said Valentine's Day is among the largest peaks for the brand in terms of traffic and sales. "ValentineaAs Day celebrations are no longer just a metro phenomenon, it has taken root even in the tierII and tierIII towns. While flowers and chocolates have been all time favourites, the largest growth is in the customised gifts and naughty gifts categories." Some other findings from the survey: 42 per cent females feel Valentine's is overhyped, compared to 47 per cent males but many will still celebrate; 15 percent respondents feel Valentine's should be a national holiday; and 29 per cent of men, and 31% of women, have changed their Valentine at least once in the last five years.

Grand Chord rail users rue their lot, look to railway minister for solace Abdul Qadir | TNN | Feb 9, 2016, 11.04 AM IST
GAYA: Having sent four NDA MPs to the Lok Sabha, including a Union minister (Giriraj Singh representing Nawada seat of Magadh Division), rail users of the region rue their lot as none of their long pending demands have been met. The rail users look to railway minister Suresh Prabhu for solace but all in vain. DK Jain, president of the Grand Chord Passengers Association, said that even Prabhu has so far disappointed the area rail users. All demand for new trains have been turned down on the alibi that additional wash pit was required in Gaya to facilitate movement of long distance trains with Gaya as the starting point. "A wash pit can be constructed in just six months. Process for the construction of a second wash pit began nearly a decade back and nobody knows when (if ever) it will be completed," said Lalji Prasad, secretary of the Passenger body. Wash pit was just an alibi, says Prasad. "Even such demands of the Grand Chord Passengers Association that do not entail any additional financial burden and can be met with just more efficient management have not been met," he said. Explaining his charge, Prasad said that DhanbadHowrah double decker train remains idly shunted at Dhanbad for several hours. The oldest demand of the Grand Chord rail users is the introduction of a direct train for Mumbai with Gaya as the point of origin. Mumbai Mail, the only daily link between the holy city of Gaya and the business capital of the country was started in the British era.

Ruskin Bond writing three memoirs, one on his love life PTI | Feb 9, 2016, 10.58 AM IST
Ruskin Bond promises his memoirs 'will be very amusing.' KOLKATA: Legendary children's author Ruskin Bond is writing his autobiography in three volumes, one of which will reveal why he did not marry. "I will write three memoirs. First one will be on my writing life, second one on my personal life, which includes my love life," Bond told PTI in an interview here. The third book, he said would be on his "invented life" the life, which the writer would like to have. "I can tell a lot of tall stories. That book will probably be the most amusing," the 81yearold bachelor, who lives with his adopted family in Landour near Mussoorie, said. Although many of his stories are semiautobiographical in nature, his first attempt at writing a fullfledged memoir was in 2000 when 'Scenes from a Writer's Life: A Memoir' was published. But, it covers only first few formative years of the AngloIndian's life till the age of 21 before his first book 'The Room on the Roof', which also has autobiographical elements, was published. Born to a British Air Force personnel in Kasauli, he grew up in smaller towns of Jamnagar, Shimla and Dehradun. After staying for a few years in London, the Sahitya Akademi Award winner and Padma Bhushan winning writer came back to the country of his birth. "I am extending that book now to include some of the things I had left out. And some of the things I see in a different perspective now. It will be ready in the next 34 months," said the author who was recently in the city to talk at the Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet.
