PARKLET MEMORIAL IN HONG KONG Hong Kong is notorious for costly parking spaces and serious congestion,how will such modern city face the challenge of future city? Since the special aborinigality derived from crowded environment, will the oringinal DNA eliminated by developing future traffic, can we live in a smart neighbourhood with the memory of modern traffic which helps people distinguish this city as ‘HongKong’ instead of disable to tell difference between other future cities.

WHAT IF HONGKONG'S MODERN TRAFFIC COULD BE MEMORIZED IN 2050?
In terms of future city,We are full of imagination.Technology-driven vehicle industry shapes the extremly intelligent future for us with different rolling devices which have already multiplied transportation options for millions and provides a global,connected hypothesis for inclusive urban growth. But city streets were designed a century ago for cars and pedestrians—not scooters, drop-off and pickup spots, and bikes. Hong Kong is notorious for costly parking spaces and serious congestion,how will such modern city face the challenge of future city? Since the special aborinigality derived from crowded environment, will the oringinal DNA eliminated by developing future traffic, can we live in a smart neighbourhood with the memory of modern traffic which helps people distinguish this city as 'HongKong' instead of disable to tell difference between other future cities.
SITE The site is located nearby Central HongKong.Here is a five forks crossing with a bollard at centre, the streets alongside are narrow and winding.

OPPORTUNITY Cars are multiplying at
7 times the rate of people in HongKong. In the U.S. alone, 500 million parking spaces will become available for redevelopment as autonomous vehicles become the norm. On a global scale, that opportunity expands to the equivalent of 5 billion parking spaces. On-street parking is a necessary supplement to off - street parking lots . I t mainly meets the needs of short - term parking . O n - street parking accounts for 4% of all parking spaces. [ Rooftop Housing ] The demanding land resoources urges people to seek for blank space other than the ground in HongKong and some of them developed well in an economic way. It's another symbol of Asian crowded culture which turns out people in HongKong are so familiar with unusual space.
CONCEPT
With the site in the iconic HongKong block,I aimed for creating a hypothetical scenario in this old building,also is a important crossing.By re-interpreting the symbols of old HongKong traffic w h i c h i s r e p r e s e n t e d f o r c r o w e d c u l t u r e , I w a n t t o i n v o ke a reflection on freeing parking space and turns to less-motorized transporation and creating people-first future city eventually.
EXPLODED VIEW
The main entrance faces to the busy crossing so that it's easyto-access public realm for everyone. The original site is used as an art space featured with gallery and cafe.To maintain such sprit of art, I tried to reinterpret it in a way of adding mobility visual icon.Besides I divided this space with the formal size of a real parking lot.The new space it generated functions as exhibition box or rest seatings and so on.As to the atrium,it is a public space next to the side entrance.In the future of timesharing street,it will become a city living room for citizens and highly-connected to the outdoor space.The Filipina maid can still spend their weekend here,also ease the uncomfortable and crowded feeling they used to experience in the roads.

URBAN PLAZA, ALSO ARCHAELOGICAL SITE By dividing spaces in the way of measuring the same size as a real parklet, people can experience it in a different way and think about such parking space has much potentials.
NON-TERIOR FOR INDOOR SPACE AND STREET The regular street parking will not be allowed, as to the development of automatic driving,the usage of street will be divided by functions and subjects.People can get in and out this space eas ily during the pedestrian time.

Occupying the important crossing of the Central,the site shows its potential to become a open house towards lower albert street. The crowded space no longer annoying the different stakeholders,instead ,they can benefit seperately by dividing the space in a day to practice'space-as-service'

The four floors in total plays differnet roles in the consideration of their former layout and functions.Basement level 1 doesn't change a lot,it still used as a canteen and keep the entrance open to the Wyndamn street.However, the upper level is added an atrium and some are turned into a open plaza.The building also holds the requisite spare room for staff of fringe club, which operates this house
THE ATRIUM The Parking culture can be read from this atrium, the layers are arranged under the form of stacked parking chamber.But in the era of automatic driving,these crowded lots can be used in another way,and people get to know the value of freeing more space.You can experience it on the ground and first floor.

LIVE QIPU We are constantly exposed to the "immersive Internet" nowadays, It creates a totally fast-paced lifestyle to challenge the old one and infiltrate into our patterns of living.In the spatial term, we are qusetioed continuously if the space is adaptable to online environment? The goal of this project is to explore how the culture of "live selling" will develop in a traditional wholesale clothes market.I'm not intend to stir up the conflict between the old way of selling and the "internet" new style.Instead, it's about the combination in one space with a historical perspective.

SITE ANALYSIS
QIPU ROAD wholesale clothing and accessories market is located at the boarder of JingAn District and HongKou District in Shanghai.It's surrounded by several business complex and residiential near the Suzhou Creek. The business scope ranges from clothing fabric to ready-to-wear and display props as well.It has become one of the biggest traditional clothing wholesale market in southern China and attracts bunches of buyers from all over the country to replenish their stock from here.However ,the visits has dropped drastically these days because of the development of E-COMMERCE such as TaoBao
TIMETABLE OF ACTIVITIES There is a spirit of free trade all the time in history ,but with time passing by ,on -site-transcation at lower price is not as attractive as the old time.By studying the site in-depth,i found that despite the dwellers despice such space in some way ,they can't refuse to acknowledge that it's the only public space they can wandering

CONCEPT
RUNWAY has been viewed as the symbol of fashion with Haute Couture ,which represents a higher status than the ordinary clothes market.I’d like to introduce it into my proposal as a icon.This also fits the spirit of ‘live streaming’——ordinary people can experience a totally different field except for the real environment they are in through live stream.
The main idea is derived from the DNA of the original site that the clothes is stacked in the retails.It is the unique way of display and storage.Besides, i try to convert the negative impact which is the live streaming is hitting the real market economy in a postive way .

The installation standing at the entrance of the construction is used for clothes cycling,it comes from the pattern of former QIPU tenants ,which the clothes were piled up for selling ,but also for storing.This can be an accessible installation now showing the second-hand clothes collected by this institution.And,it will become the symbol of the site.
VISUALIZATION Locals become the model in this live streaming market, and it also will be includes in their public life
The East Entrance is designed to open up to the adjacent residential area ,Instead of complaining the dirty market all day ,locals will have more interest in this ‘live streaming room’.They are not only the visitor but also the models for online readers.

CITY'S MOURNERS FOR FORESTFIRE This project is developed from my concern about high-frequency wildfire happend everywhere in the world these years.I feel sad about that and it drives me to think about as a urban citizen which is far away from wild forest and hardly witness such disaster, what can we rethink from this and take more seriously about caring about our environment. My strategy is to intervene the space under the overpass and invite people to visit unintentionally.The opportuniy is the moment people stop at the safety island to wait the green light up.

VISION Our living environment is highly connectd to the forest visually.However an ironical truth is that we always show strong adaptability to “severe” concrete jungle but care less for the natural forest.We didn’t witness the disaster doesn’t mean we have no need to worry.That’s why i want to find someplace in the city to alert urban people of the issue of wildfire.

This room is a praying space.I arranges the public furniture such as subway seatings or benches which represent for urban culture in a way of church seatings layout.By adding grass into the room,it creates a special atmosphere for visitors to think. PUBLIC FURNITURE/GRASS
It's a special item with a certain extend of reflectivity. At first, people will notice it by its shining surface and then realized it functions as reflection of the fire scene played by the projector. And it makes a contrastive effect on the entrance design.

MODEL This hand-made (1:50) model shows the constitution of the ehole experience.It's a two-way entrance both sides, the end is also the first of a visit. It functions as a public underpass plaza as well.

04 PROJECTED SPACE in 158 This construction is under the requirements of being folded into a 158 luggage case. We started with researching on the foldable material with good intensity.Finally, we chose water pipe as our main single material ,which is connected by t-branch pipe or four way pipes. The form is based on the material ,we want it to be an open unit with seatings Functioning as rest space so that people can walk into it in different direction s.Furthermore,it’s an quicklyfolded space with low cost as well.All pieces are able to collect in a 28 inch suitcase and within 23kg

The work must fit into the suitcase of 158 and weigh less than 23 kg. Create a closed or semi-closed space that can accommodate at least one person.

RESEARCH ON USAGE OF GREY SPACE Developed in Beijing, the Pop-Up Habitat is a modular and lightweight multi-purpose structure that re-purposes reflective panels commonly used in photography. The popularity of amateur photography is a recent phenomenon in China. The design is instantly deployable, and goes from flat panels to enclosed space in just minutes. The Pop-Up Habitat is customizable and can be formed into arches and rooms, linear spaces or stacked vertically to create multi-story free-standing structures. Generally, the components that separate indoor and outdoor are mostly in the form of surfaces, such as walls, roofs, and ground. When the elements of these surfaces are gradually degraded into line elements, the interface between the inside and the outside also begins to become blurred. This spatial form formed by overlapping linear elements is called the framework space. Because the frame space relies on linear elements to delimit the scope, it cannot clearly define the inside and outside. It is a typical gray space, which reflects the friendly attitude of the building to the environment, which is ambiguous inside and outside. In architecture, the frame is usually presented by the overlapping of beams and columns in the structure, which embodies a kind of beauty that is exposed and rich in structural logic. Therefore, the development of structural technology is also directly related to the expression of the ambiguity of architectural space.

Conceptual Form As Sou Fujimoto said: "I think the interior and exterior are the most rooted parts for architecture, What I am interested in is not simply distinguishing the inside and the outside, but in the internal and the outside. A variety of levels are created between the exteriors, and a variety of options are differentiated for residential places.I think that through the integration of exterior and interior,
it may be possible to change the way the building itself exists. Furthermore, perhaps the world of architecture and urban environment changes. Even the boundary between nature and architecture will be shaky."to delimit the scope, it cannot clearly define the inside and outside. We set the site at the entrance of our college.The open foyer generates much grey space naturally, so we decide to put our installation here and try to fit in the original encironment

Deter mining the pipe as our main material , we still need to control the weight and size as the request of the 158 trunk. After prototyping, we decided to cut the pipe into three different sizes, 60cm,40cm and 28cm connected by T-branch /Fourway/Twoway

In order to maintain the consistency of visual language，we chose mesh like Space cotton fabric, matching with the frame structure of the pipes, as soft material for cushion package.

Redefine the future city and life by “redesign” is the idea that it delivered. More deeply, Changing consumption habits and fashion awareness by it.
The construction is free for everyone to experience in the hall of design college for a week.
