Get your groove on with this year’s musical wonder. Enjoy all of your favourite musical hits in one place. From Grease to the Greatest Showman. Spotlight has created another spectacle of song and dance as their amazing cast transform into many recognisable styles to take on these greatest hits.
Every Thursday until the 21st of September Spotlight will be showing ‘A Night at the Movies’ with tickets being £12 for adults and £8 for under 16s.
Get into the summer vibe with the hottest musical performances sung by some of the most talented performers that East Yorkshire has to offer.
Photo by Spotlight TheatreThose familiar with Spotlight will know how wonderful their costume design can be, but this performance in particular elevates the costume design to a standard only achieved with true passion and understanding. The authentic designs never limit the performers either, but instead create that feeling of watching these musicals on the big screen.
This is highlighted in “Fabulous” which has to be one of Spotlight’s most dynamic set pieces yet; the props are moved about to replicate the visuals of the scene as it is on film, all while the performers continue to give it their all. Never has a stage play felt so much like watching a clip from a film as though it were being filmed before the audience.
Photo by Spotlight TheatreOf course, it wouldn’t be a musical masterpiece without some of the best songs to ever be put to script. The performers not only tackle the amazing Greased Lightning, but also the Greatest Showman. They pull of their selection of songs from both with the professional quality to match the big screen. The dancing is full of rhythm and life, the outfits are stylish and colourful, the prop car is a fantastic addition that every Greased reenactment needs but Spotlight once again elevates with their in-house set designers going all-out.
Photo by Spotlight TheatreA personal highlight was the Ghostbuster’s theme where the performers not only got themselves dressed in the suits with proton packs but managed to bounce around the stage singing and dancing in those outfits without once letting up. The incredible passion can be felt all around, but never does the cast take itself too seriously; evidenced by the flailing ghost that makes itself known by prancing across the back of the stage several times before chasing the Ghostbusters away.
Even the audience was invited to join in on this song, because bustin’ makes everyone feel good.
