WELCOME TO ELEMENTS From photography to literature to a programme of extraordinary films, the first Elements festival presents a diverse range of events and activities, across the stunning region of Cumbria. Grown out of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans) history project CELEBRATE, Elements aims to bring more inclusive and high-quality arts and cultural events to our rural region. For its pilot year, the festival features an exhibition of LGBT history with photographic artwork by Colin Tennant, created through months of working with older LGBT people (p4); a writer in residence project in Copeland, where poet Pascale Petit worked with locals over 60 (p6); and a film programme curated by three of the most amazing people working in equality and diversity in the UK (p10). In addition to our own programme, we also include associated events from organisations across the region (p18). We would like to thank the team at OutREACH Cumbria, all of our partners, participants, and our funders: Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund, Copeland Community Fund, Cumbria Community Foundation - for making all this happen. We hope you enjoy the first Elements Festival. Tonia Lu, Producer image: Edie & Thea: A Very Long Engagement (2009)
