Jackie’s Hair Story As a child I wore the typical little black girl hairstyles. You know, the two strand twist pigtails with berets or ball hair ties at the ends or beads all over. Don’t forget the infamous back half down with a ponytail on top and curled bang in the front style. My mom also experimented with cornrows and single braids on my head. As I got older I became “too grown” for little girl hairstyles. I received my first relaxer eleven years ago at the age of ten. Relaxers became a normal part of my hair routine and were put in by my mother or a hair salon once a month. I would only go to the hair salon for special occasions and holidays. After a few years of relaxers I began to experience hair loss. I had a bald patch the size of my fist in the left back side of my head that was as smooth as a baby’s bottom. I was embarrassed because I couldn’t wear ponytails and I was always afraid that someone could see it when I tilted my head down. It was my sophomore year of high school when I decided to stop getting relaxers. I didn’t know what I was going to do and I was nervous about what my family would have to say about it. You would think that I had told my mother that I was going to bleach my skin when I told her that I didn’t want to get my hair relaxed anymore. (story continued on carmellamarie.com) 7

Seek out those that have also transitioned to natural hair, and share your thoughts about your journey with like-minded naturals. 54 Dates To a Mate is a year long project where I go out on one date per weekend (+2) in effort to attract a super awesome guy who I could possibly one day spend the rest of my life with. Following each date, I will do a date review and share how the date went on my blog. A local restaurant in Richmond Virginia will sponsor each date. So not only will you get to hear about my blind date adventures, you will also hear about some really great dating spots here in the city. As a hairdresser, I witness firsthand, (yes even in 2013), too many women standing on the sidelines instead of jumping in and playing the game called life. So with the success of this initiative, yes I do believe I will meet Mr. Right. But I would also like to use this project as a platform to inspire women everywhere to have the courage to embark on their own personal journeys and to follow their own dreams – whether its finding their dream guy, going after that promotion, or standing up for themselves in some other way.

Coming Soon Hair Clinic The Carmella Marie Hair Clinic can be thought of as a check up for your hair. Even though people are aware of the problems they encounter with their hair, too many people do not know how to fix those problems. The number of salons that incorporate natural hairstylists into their shops are on the rise, and we want to partner with them in order to increase the chances of clients obtaining healthy hair. What we will do Inform you about what you can to do to potentially fix your hair problems Inform you about our products that may help you with that particular problem(s). The Hair Clinic will take place at All in One Beauty Shop located on 3420 Market Street Youngstown, Ohio 44507 Sunday April, 27 2-4 p.m. The Hair-Towel After washing our hair, the first thing we reach for is a towel to dry it. However, what most people do not realize is that the fibers from the towel pull at your hair. This can lead to more split ends and unnecessary sheading. The Carmella Marie Hair-Towel is made of 94% cotton and 6% spandex. With its smooth surface, the CM Hair-Towel will dry your hair without snagging your curls. The towel is approximately 2.5 feet by 1.5 feet for $19.99 and will be available May 31, 2014. Reminder: Pop-Up Shop May 31, 2014 Call 234-201-5310 (Call to RSVP)
