The Gold Coast Story ...Our Name
The Gold Coast now called Ghana is a beautiful West African country on the Atlantic, situated between Cote d’Ivoire and Togo. The name Gold Coast came about due to its rich reserves in high quality gold and has been a prominent supplier of quality gold to the world over many centuries. The inhabitants of Gold Coast are fiercely proud of their culture, they are peaceful yet loud, and as tough and determined as they are humble. The Gold Coast is also home to some of the most varied and interesting cuisines in the world. Inhabitants from North to South, grouped into tribes all have their specialties, their secret recipes! These secrets swirl in the wind and are passed down from generation to generation. The warmth and hospitality in the Gold Coast’s heritage is second to none! Thus, the name Gold Coast represents wealth, quality, good food, warmth and hospitality, the very attributes that the Gold Coast brand represents. At The Gold Coast Foods these attributes and the spicy secrets of Ghana and Africa are brought to life!
…Our Logo
At the heart of the Gold Coast brand is West Africa, bringing you a taste of authenticity and excellent quality. West Africa is rich in symbols which are predominantly featured on cloth, walls and pottery. Our logo is thus a combination of 2 West African symbols called SESA WO SUBAN which literally means change your attitude and is a representation of transformation in life. We interpret this as innovation, authenticity, assurance and rigorous attention to detail to which we are committed. This dedication ensures that every time our products and services offer you the experience the true essence of West African culture, its food and most importantly the passion of its people.
…Our Beginning
The Gold Coast Bar & Restaurant
Award Winning Dishes Original Chef’s Special Hot and spicy char-grilled chicken pieces on the bone.
Tilapia with Jollof Rice Char-grilled and seasoned with Ghanaian spices topped with our famous Ivorian salsa
Chichinga (Kebab) Two skewers of char-grilled mutton garnished with a dash of chilli and peanut spice
The story of the Gold Coast brand began in the early 2000’s when William Quagraine (a chartered Management Accountant) and his wife, Francesca Quagraine (a renowned PA), both from Ghana but resident in the UK yearned for the tasty food, music and sunshine of Ghana. Equally passionate about tasty quality food, cooking and entertaining friends became a regular feature at the home of the Quagraines. This helped satisfy their yearning and restored the West African flavor that was missing from their lives! They would challenge recipes passed on from generations by being innovative and creating and refining their own recipes with different taste sensations the most popular being The Original Chef ’s Special Chilli Sauce. William and Francesca’s sauces became so popular amongst their friends and families that they decided to share it with the rest of the world – hence, the launch of their first West African restaurant in South Norwood in 2004 – The Gold Coast Restaurant and Bar – where the sauce became a best-seller and sold over 500,000 in accompanied dishes over 6 years.

…Our Present
Akonfem (Guinea Fowl)
The Original Chef Special Sauce was launched as a packaged retailable product which marked the birth of The Gold Coast Foods Ltd. In October 2009, three of the entrepreneurs, William and Francesca Quagraine (original founders of The Gold Coast restaurants and bars in South London) and Dora Hanson Amissah were invited to the BBC’s Hairy Bikers …….show where they cooked and passionately spoke about the virtues of West African cuisine and became, without doubt, one of the most famous participants on the show. They followed up by entering The Original Chef Special Chilli Sauce into the prestigious Great Tastes Awards, organised and sponsored in the UK by The Guild of Fine Foods and won a Gold Star Award in their first attempt with their first product. A fourth entrepreneur, Joseph Faroyode has since joined the entrepreneurial team.
