In the early spring of 2004 Legendary Meechie & Kennedy (dawn) Karan decided to fly the nest, in which they called home in the ballroom scene for over 9 years to embark on new endeavors. These two along with a team of eight (Christian, Khalil, Erica Kane and legends Season, Joey, Raymond, Prentice, and Glenn) over the next 3 months would make crucial moves, in depth plans and strategic decisions that would later form a powerhouse full of legends, statements and stars! The group collaborated over a name/designer that possessed all the characteristics they strived for in a house. Characteristics such as; fashion-forward, unique, individuality and above all CLASS. The final result of this lengthy deliberation became the birth of THE LAVISH HOUSE of CHRISTIAN LACROIX. We in the house of Christian Lacroix came up with a formula for success and longevity in the ballroom scene. We implemented an invite only policy, which has helped us to remain a small an intimate house. Also, we embraced a fashion-forward dress code in and out of ballroom so that our members stood out amongst other individuals in other houses. Our fashionable image along with personal style has been a large factor in our success; therefore, fashion has become our main component for allowing us to be unlike any other houses past or present. Lastly, we try at all times to carry ourselves with sophistication and self-respect. All of these elements complete the formula that make up the Lacroix way and in turn has coined us with two catch phrases “Lacroix about it” and “Lacroix sweetie!” On July 24,2004 in Philadelphia, the legendary Meechie 007 and then father Bo Prestige teamed up to throw the Unity ball. That ball was not only one of the Hottest balls that year, but stamped the night that the House of Lacroix debuted as a new house. Our house was accepted with open arms from the ballroom community, instantaneously. We possessed undeniable talent, but above all

we added new competition and hype to categories such as, fashion and runway. Some of our biggest accomplishments to date has been winning the house with the most trophies @ the 2005 Prodigy house ball, only being a year old, at the time; however, winning over well established and legendary houses, alike! In 2005, we were new house of the year recipients @ both the Dorian Corey awards ball and the NYC awards ball. Kennedy (Dawn) has won Fem Queen Statement of the year in 2005 @ NYC awards ball, Philly’s finest 2005 @ Dorian Corey and NYC awards ball and mother of the year @ the Dorian Corey awards ball in 2007. Meechie has won father of the year @ the 2008 Dorian Corey awards ball. We were also winners of the fashion house of the year award 5 years in a row @ both the Dorian Corey awards ball and the NYC awards ball. lastly, we have won several individual of the years for Tall Boys Runway, Fem Queen Realness, Butch Queen Foot & Eye, Fem Queen Foot & Eye, Butch Queen Models Magazine Face, Drags Face, Fem Queen Best-dressed, Fem Queen head to Toe/Labels, Sex Siren and Butch Queen Face, Butch Queen Vogue fem, Virginia Finest, New York Finest, Butch Queen Runway, Drags Realness, Street wear, Runway House of the Year ( New York Awards Ball) and Schoolboy from state to state and in 2010 Legendary Father Meechie Lacroix was inducted into the Ballroom Hall of Fame.......we currently have chapters in Philadelphia, Virginia, North Carolina, New York City and in august 2010 added a chapter in Washington D.C/ Maryland. LIONS, TIGERS & FLAIR OH MY.... M

ommy and Daddy Lacroix 2 highly respected ballroom fashionistas are taking us on a ride with an American classic “THE SUIT” and showing us to spice it up with the right label accessories........ It’s 4:30pm on a very busy late summer day and I’m in rush hour traffic on I676 on my way to King of Prussia mall to meet with the Legendary Mother Kennedy and Father Meechie Lacroix. I can’t help but to be filled with excitement and anticipation of wondering what it will be like to sit and converse with these two about fashion in and out of the ballroom scene, in an intimate setting. As I pulled up to the mall, parked and approached the restaurant I could see the couple was sitting in the lobby of the restaurant waiting to be seated. They were both dressed down, but all in all still very fashion forward. After about 20 minutes of waiting our pager went off and Lacroix party of three was on our way to be seated and to enjoy a heart-filled evening of great food, drinks and conversation.......... After we and had viewed the menu, placed our food orders and was enjoying our drinks I decided to do some light Q& A to break the ice, as well as set the tone. I was curious to know who in ballroom the couple admired for fashion. Also, who they considered to be a major problem on the floor? As I presented the question Kennedy gave me a look of uncertainty and asked, “What do you mean when you say a major problem”? I looked over at her and explained, “When you’re preparing for a ball and deciding on what pieces to acquire and what look you are going for, who is that one person that keeps you on top of your game because you know if she comes you may have a battle on your hands”? Kennedy laughed as she nodded her head and began to speak. “I always admired Mother Tanya Cartier miss thing is not only fashion, but she’s fashionable. Also, she’s from Philly and I’ve watched her beat the best of them, so I live”! She hesitated for a moment, you could tell she was in thought then she continued. “The person that I feel poses as a major threat would have to be Ms. Stephanie Milan. The reason I say Stephanie is because that lady be up in the pieces and it sometimes seem like there is no limit to what that lady can obtain: therefore, when I’m out shopping and buying my pieces I have to make sure I’m in nothing less than the best” she replied! Now that I had her answers I looked over at Meechie patiently awaiting his answers. “Oh I guess it my turn” he laughed. Let’s see......who do I admire, he murmured? That would have to be Al Allure because I could remember being a young boy in the scene and watching him walk fashion and not only did he look amazing but he still remained to hold on to his masculine appeal, as well. He was done on and off the runway and it was an extra bonus that I admired him as an individual and a house father! Now for my problem” he smiled very hard, took a sip of his drink, sighed and then replied. “My problem would have to be Mark Milan, I think his sense of style is top notch, not to mention the man comes through with hot pieces and he knows what works for him”. We drink a little more a few minutes later we were being served dinner. I stopped my interview so that we could enjoy our meals as I enjoyed my meal I feel back into my state of anticipation for the rest of my interview. Over dessert, I asked the dynamic duo what exactly they loved most about fashion. Father Meechie, smiling but without hesitation replied “I feel everyone should own a good suit”, but my first love when it comes to fashion are accessories! Mother Kennedy who was retrieving something from an oversized Christian Lacroix denim, leather and wicker pocketbook looked at me and said “ I agree I love suits, all kind of suits, but I am like a little girl in a candy store when it comes to accessories”.......... I talked with these two for over an hour talking about everything from ballroom to everyday life, but all as it pertained to fashion. Father Meechie who is now 35 years old and have been walking balls since the age of 20 years old enlightened me on his road trip of fashion and how he became and advocate for suits and accessories. “Well I’ve always loved fashion, I took up tailoring in high school, I attended Edward Bok Vocational Technical high school in south Philadelphia; however, I later attended Philadelphia University(formerly known as Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences) where I majored in fashion design and fashion merchandising”. During his 3rd year of college Meechie was introduced to the ballroom scene where he was then allowed to put his talents to a new form of use. “I enjoyed sewing for my private clients, my family, at work and for myself, but when I started walking balls it allowed me to take my skills and creativity to another level.” he said. “I’ve always been a thick boy and during the 90’s runway was all about models effect.” “The suit was the key essential to that category, but it was how you accessorized it that set you apart from your completion.” he laughed! Now I focused some attention on Mother Kennedy to get her insight on this infamous

topic of fashion. She looked at me as only she could and responded “Well I would have to say that I as a young girl was spoiled very early with gifts of high end designer label garments, shoes and bags and instantly began a love affair with fashion” Kennedy said. “It was the Fire ball in 1997 and drags realness was bring it like a lady, I walked in a Dolce and Gabanna suit, shirt and pumps and I looked amazing.” , “I then learned the power of a suit and pumps.” she giggled! “Oh by the way did I mention I splayed the category and won grand prize?” I had to laugh myself because to know Mother Kennedy is to love her!! As we were sitting there finishing up our deserts I couldn’t help but to be in awe at the pair’s chemistry. They carried themselves like the ultimate power couple and combined with their physical appearance could have been easily taken for celebrities. What are some of your favorite accessories, I asked? Kennedy looked at me as if she had been awaiting this question. “I love my shoes/boots, bags and coats” she said. “Everyone knows I’m notorious for those three.” “ It doesn’t matter what a women is wearing, jeans & a t-shirt, a suit or just a button up and bottoms, its all about that bag, shoe and coat” Kennedy replied with attitude!! She looks over at her husband who was on her every word while drinking some lemonade. “Well for me it’s all about a hat, footwear, jewelry and last but not least I love a man bag” he said. He took another sip of lemonade and then he finished. “My weight over the years has gone up and down.” “At my smallest weight I can easily wear any designer label I choose to. But, at some of my more larger moments some designer labels are just not doable for me, so over the years I’ve learned to love my accessories. Just like my wife I feel like no matter what it is you are wearing (as a man or women) it can be transformed simply by applying the right accessories. Everywhere we go whether we’re on Fifth Avenue or walking through the hood we are stopped and complimented on our eyewear, outerwear, footwear, jewelry and bags, etc.... Our high fashion image is something we have taken pride in over the years and it’s not just something we portray for ballroom, for us it’s a lifestyle”! At this point we’ve been sitting in the restaurant for quite some time. We’ve had appetizers, dinner and dessert. But, I still had two more questions to top of my interview. I looked at both of them and asked my 1st of two questions, who are your top 3 designers? Meechie seemed to ponder on the question briefly, but Kennedy knew her answers instantaneously. “Christian Lacroix, Gucci and Emilio Pucci” says Kennedy. Kennedy once again looks over at Meechie and he began to speak slowly. “Its hard for me to only pick 3 because i love so many”. “Dsquared, John Gallianno, Vivienne Westwood and Christian lacroix of course” hes say. Lastly asked them both to name one or two items that they have owned past and present that they loved the most? I looked at Kennedy first to get her answer. “Actually I have 3” she says. “ First on my list are my Ceasare Paciotti purple, 4” stilettos with the Swarovski scorpion going down the back of the shoe and heel. Second, would be my black and white thigh high Christian Dior boots. Lastly, my Christian Dior gambler bag, I had to be put on a waiting list for that bag and it was well worth the wait” she says! Then I turned and looked at father to get his response. “I had of pair of gold metal Chloe aviators sunglasses that were to die for, always welcomed me with compliments. Next would be me my brown and camel Dsquared ankle boots, lol......they’re my favorite shoes” he laughed! “Oh yeah and how can I forget my Louis Vuitton charm bracelet, its quite the conversation piece” say Meechie.

Christians Questions

Where are you going to take it in the future? I plan on taking it more toward editorial looks. I wanna push the envelope even more. Hopefully ballrooms standards on streetwear will evolve!! I mean... spectators and judges need to come to grips and realize that streetwear is a fashion category and NOT a realness category. It shouldn’t be that you have to make your high fashion looks resemble urban looks. Or that you have to get to the judges panel and argue wit your competitor to come off more real in a “FASHION” category. And that excuse of: “Boys don’t wear that on the street”.. is complete bullish*t!! Cus I wear crazy weird sh*t on the streets everyday!!

’m not going to bore you with the what, when, where and why, but I’m going to tell you about the Cause and Effects. Along those paths, I did meet some very good people that loved not just Donna but love the women that I couldn’t see all the time; Dawn.2009, those that gave me unconditional love from the start noticed that Dawn was no more. The women that always knew in my heart was no longer there. In all that I am saying,
