About this match programme
By Richard Snowball This is an Easter programme for the 1956-57 season when York City played matches on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday. The programme was also newlydesigned that season. York were at home on the first two consecutive days to Stockport County and Rochdale, and coming into the game with five matches of the season left City were sitting handily in the table in sixth place. They drew the Stockport match 0-0 and won the Rochdale one 4-0 in front of crowds of 11,681 and 7,203. As often happened with the fixture list in those days they played the return matches with these two clubs on the Easter Monday and following Saturday. York lost both games 0-3 and 0-1 and then drew their last home of the season to League champions Derby County 1-1 before an attendance of 9,413, and finished in seventh position in the League. The average home League attendance was 9,414 and Arthur Bottom again finished top goalscorer with 21 League goals and 1 in the F.A.Cup.
