The 2nd High School, formerly called «Enrico Mattei», was built in the 1960s. At the beginning, it was close to the church Saint Antonio Abate, in the small square Regina Elena. Firstly the school was a section of a vocational school in Syracuse, but it got the autonomy in 1968. So, the High School Enrico Mattei became the most important school center in Avola. In 1978 the school moved to a new building in via Labriola, where it is now.
