 The 2nd High School, formerly called «Enrico Mattei», was built in the 1960s.  At the beginning, it was close to the church Saint Antonio Abate, in the small square Regina Elena.  Firstly the school was a section of a vocational school in Syracuse, but it got the autonomy in 1968.  So, the High School Enrico Mattei became the most important school center in Avola.  In 1978 the school moved to a new building in via Labriola, where it is now.
