Becoming a Mumpreneur The Creator's Letter Welcome to our first edition of Mumpreneurs Magazine themed 'Becoming a Mumpreneur'. We are so excited to be sharing this inspiring, educational & supportive issue with you. We have experienced first hand the ups & downs of starting your own business whilst being a wife, lover, mother, friend, and on the list goes. So here at Mumpreneurs Magazine we wanted to create a supportive, inspiring & educational space to help you wherever you are on your journey of being a Mumpreneur knowing that you are enough just as you are where you are.
Hello beautiful,
Hi I am Emma,
I am Tammie Pike. I am Co-Director of Toowoomba Mumpreneurs, instigator of the Mumpreneur Movement (international Mumpreneur group), international speaker, serial Mumpreneur & unconventional mentor.
When I started in business I had no idea that building a tribe of like minded women would be such a crucial part of my success.
I am also a mother to 3 wildlings & a wife to my amazing husband who I have been journeying with for the last 18 years. I have run multiple businesses over the last 6 years on & offline, that are both service & product based. I know the struggles of starting a business from scratch, growing an established business, getting your message right as well as over coming limiting fears & beliefs to be able to step up & share my services, products & message. I joined forces with the beautiful Emma Mogg last year to change, shakeup & create what the Toowoomba Mumpreneurs is today, a thriving, connected & engaged community. I took on this role because of the passion & desire I have to support other Mumpreneurs to be all they can be & to feel empowered so they can thrive in all areas of their life. I love helping fellow Mumpreneurs who might experience low selfconfidence & worth, clarity, know how, motivation, overwhelm & isolation because they don't feel they have the knowledge or the support in starting, running or growing their businesses. I support them to grow their confidence in themselves & their businesses so they can create a sustainable & profitable business, where they experience more freedom, flexibility & time to do the things they love with the people they love, which, when attained will also impact positively on their family, friends & community. We are changing the way women do business, from focusing on competing to instead collaborating, from comparing to now supporting each other and it is creating a positive impact on our growing community. I believe every woman deserves to be empowered, to give herself permission to follow her heart, whilst being supported by like-minded women who are there to help her through the tough times & celebrate with her during the good times. Together we can rise & together by supporting & uplifting one another we can thrive!

I began with something I was passionate about, something that helped me and wanted to share it with as many women as I could. In the start up phase of my business I was naive to the thought that other business owners could actually help me succeed, that together we could lift each other up and support, and collaborate all the while still thriving. This simple idea of a group where mums in business came from wanting to give my clients a little gift after hiring me, a small bag of vouchers and sample products from other mum run businesses in Toowoomba. From this small request Toowoomba Mumpreneurs was created. The group grew at a steady pace and was a nurturing and safe environment, members were sharing advice and collaborating with each other. The feeling of community grew and the walls came down, suddenly the need to protect, guard and not share started to melt away and was replaced with offerings to help, swap services and to work together. In the last 10 months the momentum has grown and shows no sign of stopping, with the addition of Tammie Pike as Co Director. Tammie was the fuel I needed to make this fire burn bright, her business knowledge, mentoring, and passion to thrive is like nothing I have ever seen before. She supports me to be the best I can be and to never give up, to invest in myself and regain my identity that I let lay dormant after becoming a mother. I CAN be a successful multi business owner as well as a mother, a wife as well as and friend. I CAN put myself first and still be supportive to my family. I CAN help other women succeed in their business even if we share the same industry. At Toowoomba Mumpreneurs this is what we are all about, THE I CAN! I WILL! I AM! Toowoomba Mumpreneurs are the support that Toowoomba small businesses have been screaming for.

What a whirlwind the last few months have been with connecting, collaborating, collating & creating this amazing magazine. What started out as an idea for a newsletter quickly turned into a fully fledged thing! We are proof that you don't have to know how to do something, but you do have to believe that you can, be motivated & have determination by the bucket loads. I remember the day that I rang Emma and said we are going to create an online digital magazine and she didn't even hesitate and said lets do it!

DREAMS DO COME TRUE BY TAMMIE PIKE
When the idea of creating a magazine to support our community, I knew Emma & I couldn’t do it alone. We didn’t have all of the knowledge needed to be able to help Mumpreneurs on all levels.
When talking about our growing team, I kept calling them our Dream Team and it stuck as they really are that, a Dream Team! They can help a mum realise her dreams & potential in business with their help.
We also knew that the work involved was more than just what two women could do, we needed a team.
We honestly could not have done or created what we have without them & I highly recommend anyone reading this to get in contact with these amazing businesses to help you start, grow or scale your business.
The idea of creating a team of businesses who were also passionate about supporting startups up to help us & our fellow Mumpreneurs grew. We booked in meetings & put the call out for certain type of businesses and our call was answered by the most incredible, passionate & supportive people we have ever met.
Let us introduce you to our AMAZING Dream Team!

YOUR BUSINESS needs A WEBSITE By Emma Menyweather | Little Pig Consulting
In today’s society, where most people shop online for services and products, a recent study by web hosting company GoDaddy has revealed that the majority of small businesses in Australia do not have a website – 59 percent to be exact. If you live in a regional area, this jumps to 65 percent. A website isn’t just about selling your services and products, it’s also about providing something of value to potential customers. The team at Little Pig Consulting have come up with the TOP SEVEN reasons why you need a website. Read on…
1. Your customers EXPECT it
In the digital age, your customers expect that you will have a website. It is a form of validation for your business. Today’s digital savvy (and often impatient) customers may look elsewhere if you don’t have a business website.
2. It provides social PROOF
Online reviews influence buying decisions in ninety percent of consumers. A great way to impress potential buyers is to include customer testimonials on your site.
3. You CONTROL your narrative
Whilst we cannot control what others say about us on social media channels, we can influence public perception by creating our own story via a business website. A company blog helps business owners get their message, mission, and personality in front of their target audience faster than print ads or snail mail brochures. Social icons linking to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other networking platforms make sharing your content easier for your visitors who like what they see.

4. Your competitors HAVE them
Research and recommendations from peers and social network connections is typically how consumers start their buying journey. Studies show that once a consumer has an idea of what they need or want, they start researching, and 72 percent of them go online to find educational material, reviews, and testimonials. If you’re not staying competitive with your competition, you’re giving customers a reason to ‘buy’ from another brand.
5. Be FOUND in online search results
Before making an online purchase or engaging the services of a business, 81 percent of consumers undertake online research. That means they go to Google and type in one or more keywords, like “cotton socks” or, if they know what they want, “handcrafted Australian cotton socks.” No website = minute chance of showing up in a search engine results page which means you are handing sales over to your competitors. However, if you have a site, you can increase your chances of appearing at the top of Google’s results by optimising your website for search engines. Search engine optimisation (SEO) can be increased through long-tail keywords, meta descriptions and titles.
6. SHOWCASE your products and services
You’ve worked hard to get your business off the ground, you should be shouting it from the virtual rooftop via a beautifully designed website that showcases your products and services. A web presence will provide you with a platform to display your products or outline your services in detail with beautiful images. A business website will give you opportunity to provide short video tutorials, give customers access to downloadable PDFs, upload your business blogs and/or newsletters as well as be a space to share testimonials to entice new clients and customers.
7. SPREAD your eggs
As the old saying goes, don’t put all your eggs in the one basket. Have you got a plan in place if suddenly you find yourself locked out of your business Facebook or Instagram page? Could your business survive whilst you rebuild and repopulate your social pages? In today’s digital era, you need to be present across numerous platforms not only for exposure but also as a safety net.
CHECK YOUR FACE Why your logo is important Shayna Louise Fernando - Graphic Artist
When you’re considering all of the factors that go into building a business, creating a logo might not seem like a top priority. But, it should be! “Maybe I don’t even need a logo at all,” a little voice is whispering in the back of your mind. Don’t listen to that voice for one second. Your logo is an integral part of making your brand a successful one – right up there with having high-quality products and positive referrals. But WHY? you say… Relax, I’m getting there.
#1GRABS ATTENTION
Attention spans are short these days – especially consumers’. As things stand, companies have about 2 seconds to convince potential customers that their products are worth any consideration. Enter: Your logo. A logo can quickly grab viewers’ attention and communicate your core values in an interesting way. That short attention span – you know, the one that causes consumers to judge your business by its appearance – can work to your advantage, if you have a solid logo to speak for your company.
#2 FIRST IMPRESSION MAKES A STRONG
You have one chance to get this right.
A logo is your first introduction to your customers. If designed well, it can pique the interest of the public and invite them to learn more about your business. If not, you’ve just alienated a potential customer base and basically tanked your business. (I’m kidding – sort of.)...
"
A logo can quickly grab viewers attention and communicate your core values in an interesting way
#3
IT'S THE FOUNDATION OF
YOUR BRAND IDENTITY
Successful branding is about telling a story. One that will influence your customers’ emotions – plain and simple. And, while it’s true that logo design is only a part of your business’s brand, it serves as the foundation for the entire narrative on which your brand is built. Colors, tones, fonts– all of this is determined by the story you’re trying to tell, and your logo sets the stage, plain and simple. These elements will later translate from your logo onto all of your branding materials – letterheads, business cards, landing pages, you name it – heck you might even stick it on your car!
12
#4 VISUAL = MEMORABLE
Your logo leads the horse (your audience) to water (your business). Ideally, you’ll want people to instantly connect the sight of your logo with the memory of what your business does – and, more importantly, how it makes them feel. The truth is, some of your audience will likely forget the name of your business (don’t take it personally – it’s human nature), but they’ll immediately associate your logo with their memories of your brand.
#5 BRAND LOYALTY FOSTERS
Say it with me: Customers crave consistency.
Think about it: When you’re out shopping for workout gear and suddenly spot trackies with the Nike swoosh, you’re instantly ready to buy. Why? Because you know you’re in safe hands; Nike is a brand you trust. Once they like you, your customers are going to seek you out again and again – and your logo is the thing they’ll look for first.
#6
your audience expects it
And, last but not least. Your logo is the first thing that your customers will look for when communicating with you and your business. It should be front and center of all your marketing materials such as business cards, flyers, advertisements, etc. If you don’t have a logo (and one that stands out), then you are missing an opportunity to make your business stick in the minds of your audience.
Don't rush your logo.
PLEASE.
IF IT MAKES YOU SMILE WITH
ALL YOUR TEETH,
IT'S THE ONE!

A SELFIE WONT CUT IT
WHY YOU NEED A
Professional Written by Rebecca Dunstall
I took my own head shots & here’s why you shouldn’t do what I did. I’m a photographer, so I should have lots of personal branding photos right? I don’t! I hate being in front of the camera and the idea of having photos taken of myself is second to walking down the main street of Toowoomba naked! But I needed a high-quality photo of myself as soon as possible, so I decided to simply take my own. Well, technically my 13-year-old daughter took my headshot. Over the course of 4 different after-school photo sessions. Out of those sessions, I ended up with one photo I sort of liked out of the more than 100 photos we took. My 13-year-old daughter knows how to take an awesome Snapchat selfie, but she doesn’t know how to encourage natural connection with a subject standing in front of her feeling beyond awkward and silly. She doesn’t know how to tilt me this way or that to get my most flattering angle. She hasn’t chatted to me about my business or how I want to present myself. She just knows how to point a camera at me and press a button. She’s no different to your daughter, son, husband, sister or best friend. We’ve all had that thought, right? The thinking that I can take my own headshots, it’s just one photo. Or, Aunty Jane took a great photo of me at my cousins' wedding last week, while I was all dressed up with my make-up done. I’ll just use that. And you absolutely can. No one is stopping you. BUT, should you? Well, the simple answer is no. Here are my 3 reasons why you should hire a professional photographer to take your branding photos.
14
1 WE HAVE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY GEAR!
This one seems pretty obvious, right? But it is very relevant. As great as your Smartphone camera is, it’s not going to produce a photo that can be used in every media form you may need your photos for. The quality just isn’t good enough. We also have the skills honed over years of practice and countless hours of learning how to use that gear, so we can produce the absolute best photos for you and your business. Professional photos look, well - professional! They will make you stand out.
"
As great as your Smartphone camera is, it’s not going to produce a photo that can be used in every media form you need.
2 POTENTIAL CLIENTS ARE DRAWN TO HIGHER QUALITY PHOTOS.
Imagine a potential client is looking for someone that offers the services you do. There’s you and one other business in your local area that offers the same service. You have phone photos with poor lighting, messy backgrounds and dodgy phone filters splashed all over your website or socials. The other business has professional photos of themselves in their ‘about me’ section and on their social feeds and they have professional branding photos showing off the product they offer. Which business is going to attract a higher quality client? (That’s a rhetorical question by the way!) Of course, it’s a professionally presented business. Because it gives them authority within their field. It makes that business appear more successful. Which creates trust with potential clients. That business is going to look after us, as they have looked after others, helping them become sought after and successful. Professional photographs make us stand out. And that creates recognition for our brand. Which brings me to reason number three.
3 YOU ARE YOUR BRAND!
Brand recognition and awareness is SO important, now more so then ever. With thousands of choices and options right at our fingertips, standing out is everything. How we connect with our clients is how we become recognisable. Consistent branding isn’t just a pretty website and an awesome logo. It’s our faces and how we present ourselves. Humans are visual beings, so humans connect with humans, not logos. You are the face of your brand, present that face professionally. Help your clients relate to you! Invest in your business with professional personal branding photos. If you want to chat about having your own personal branding photos done contact me for a chat. Now, please excuse me, while I go book in my own personal branding session with a professional photographer, so I can stop using that one photo I really don’t love

FIVE TOP TIPS FOR START-UP BUSINESSES
Written by Peta Gray Enterprise Legal
ACCORDING TO A START-UP LAWYER Starting a new business requires time, money, a leap of faith and most importantly, a whole lot of planning! As a start-up business ourselves not too long ago, the team at Enterprise Legal understand the hard work that is required to turn the dream of a successful business into a reality. We have assisted hundreds of clients to start new businesses or grow and evolve existing ones, so here are our top tips for getting it right:
1. Get the groundwork right
Choosing a great business name? It’s easy to check whether or not it is available for registration with ASIC’s free business name check. More importantly, however, you need to check whether there are any registered trademarks that your chosen name might infringe. Preferably, you should build a contingency into your start-up budget for costs associated with registering your business name and logo as trademarks, to ensure you have the best protection for your brand. You should also seek legal and accounting advice regarding the best structure to undertake your business venture in (eg. sole trader, partnership, company, trust). Getting your structure right from the start can save significant time and money later on.:
2. Choose your business partner/s wisely
Play devil’s advocate when assessing whether your proposed business partner will be a good fit for you (even if they are a friend or family member)! It’s easy to get along when things are going well, but have you seen how they conduct themselves when times are tough? Do you have a similar communication style? Are there other factors which would influence how you should deal with them (for the good of the business) in certain circumstances? Do you have the same vision for the business? These are all questions you should ask yourself before entering into a ‘business marriage’.
16 MUMPRENEUR MAGAZINE | JUNE 2019
18
2. Choose your business partner/s wisely CONt'd We recommend entering into a Shareholders Agreement, Partnership Agreement or even writing some ground rules on the back of a napkin (it’s better than nothing!) before starting out, as the process of putting the document together can raise many important questions that you haven’t even considered.
"Play devil’s advocate when assessing whether your proposed business partner will be a good fit for you"
3. Leverage your existing contacts, but approach with caution! Leveraging friends, family and existing industry contacts can be a great way to save money and build business, however you should strongly consider whether the potential benefit outweighs the possible damage to the relationship if things don’t go to plan. You might find yourselves compromising on matters, at the expense of your business, simply because you don’t want to get your friend in trouble with their boss! If you do decide it’s worth it, ensure you (or Enterprise Legal!) document any agreement which you reach, to ensure everyone is clear on the terms from the outset.
4. Set a realistic budget and update it in real time
This one may seem a little obvious, but an accurate budget takes many, many hours to put together and even more time to keep updated once you begin spending. Speak to contacts in the industry and your accountant regarding the types of costs which you can expect. There are always costs that you don’t think about at the start – and on that note…
5. Expect the unexpected!
No matter how informed and organised you think you are, things will crop up that you never anticipated. Include a contingency in your budget for financial surprises and take the time to workshop any problems that arise, to see what the best solution is.
BUILD YOUR Brand
TOP 10 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUILDING YOUR BRAND Creating a brand or business isn’t something that happens overnight. A lot of blood, sweat and tears go into creating what is quite often a life-long dream. It’s personal. It’s a part of you. And I get it, because I’ve been there and still go back there some days. As a Marketing Expert who has worked with and created some of Australia’s leading and most recognised brands for the past 12 years – from ASX listed companies to small and medium businesses - I’ve come to understand that it doesn’t matter if you’re at the helm of a multi-million dollar business or what you might still consider to be a hobby. The same level of effort is required if you wish to break through the noise and clutter of your industry; in fact more effort is required because we don’t have the budget many corporates do! SO HOW DO YOU DO THIS? HOW DO YOU ‘BUILD YOUR BRAND?’
What I’ve found is that those who try to do it on their own with no professional help or guidance can waste precious time and money that is so important – particularly in the early stages of creating a brand. Seek someone who can support you on your journey, who you can bounce ideas off and ask for honest, constructive feedback. It could be a mentor, a business coach, an accountability buddy, or an online group. This will help increase your profitability, efficiency and overall success. AS A BUSINESS MENTOR AND COACH, IT’S IMPERATIVE TO GET CRYSTAL CLEAR AROUND THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. What product or service do I offer? 2. How is it unique and different to others already in the market? 3. How do I wish to be perceived and viewed in my industry? 4. How do I help/assist my customers and clients? 5. What it is that I want to achieve by running my own business? 6. Why do I do what I do? (This is super important!) These may seem like simple questions but what I’ve found with my clients is that they often find them difficult to answer. It’s a little like painting a large mural. You’re so close and focused on painting a particular area that you need to take quite a few steps back to see the whole picture or scene and allow it to come into focus. If you’re struggling with the above
questions it can be useful to keep taking a few steps back and take a look inwards into yourself, into your own identity and understand who it is that you really are and all that you want to be.
ASK YOURSELF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. What gives me joy and really lights me up and excites me? 2. What is holding me back and why? 3. If I could do absolutely anything, what would that be, how would it make me feel and what would it look like? 4. What is one thing that I can action right now to propel me closer to my dreams? As you can see, your brand is so much more than just a logo and a style guide with typography and colour pallete. It’s the ‘Essence of You.’ Be bold, be brave and be you because the world needs what only you and your business can provide. With grit & grace,

TREASURE EVERY MOMENT
Yvette Treasure
We all like to celebrate those special moments – Moments to Treasure. Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, engagements...the list is endless. However, many people experience the overwhelming feeling of ‘where to begin’ when tasked with the challenge of organising a function. Themes, venues, dates and decorations are just some of the points that need to be considered. You can easily spend hours trolling through online resources like; Pinterest, Etsy, Ebay, Wish and YouTube, saving photos of decorations that are impossible to reproduce, or purchase. The best advice I can offer (apart from calling Me!), is to slow down, breath and begin with a Theme. The theme is crucial; it sets the tone of the function and is the ‘trunk’ of the tree – I like to think of the rest as just the ‘leaves’.
A theme can be colour, pattern, lighting, texture, smell, character or fancy dress. This decision flows through everything from invitations and decorations to food and entertainment. The theme accompanied by a suitable venue creates atmosphere and ambiance; it sets the mood of the entire event. Date and venue are your next decisions to be made. If you are arranging more formal functions such as weddings or professional events then the date is very important. You must investigate weather forecasts and any other events that could potentially impact your attendance. Once the venue has been decided, discuss with them any restrictions that would impact your plans. Check if they are able to cater for any special requirements you or your guests may have and what is included in the price. Creating a stunning, unforgettable event can become very expensive and it is vital that you have a complete understanding of what is and isn’t included in the venues pricing structure.

One final piece of advice I will offer is to ensure you have an RSVP date early enough to allow enough time to chase invitees up! Understand it is okay to expect a response from someone if they have been invited. Make it easy for your guests by offering various forms of contact – we are all time poor so some things get overlooked. With 15 years experience as a wedding coordinator, I have witnessed the stress involved in DIY decorations. From ‘cheap’ chair covers purchased online not fitting chairs at the venue, to Emerald green sashes not matching the Emerald green table runners and your candles arriving three days after the function. In amongst all this drama the hardest part of DIY functions is the stress placed on the hosts, family and friends to decorate on the day. Moments to Treasure offer a function set up service for those that love the idea of DIY but want their special day to remain stress free. There is so much to consider and organise when running a function or event. The small details are so often overlooked and my experience shows these make all the difference. Moments to Treasure is able to take the stress out of creating your event and allow you the time to sit back and ‘Treasure the Moment’.

It means if you want to stay relevant, if you want to stand out, if you want to stop people in their scroll – you have to use high quality, fresh imagery! Crap photos just don’t cut it anymore.
You’ve heard of Instagram right? What about Pinterest? I’m willing to bet you’ve heard of them both – if not what rock have you been hiding under?
I bet you’re thinking ‘Yeah yeah Tilly, it’s easy for you to say that but I can’t take a photo to save myself’
People, you, me, OUR CLIENTS: can scroll endlessly (and quite often mindlessly) through a million images a day. Every single image under the sun is available at our fingertips. We are living in the most visually driven era of all time. Phone cameras are constantly getting better and better, professional quality images are within the reach of even those who live on the poverty line. You can buy high quality photography gear from China for less than the cost of a decent meal. And what does that all mean for you as a business owner?
Now that nagging voice in your head is We’ve all been there with you. There are things in my business I can’t do and frustrate the life out of me – so I outsource them. Find an expert and get them to do it for you. When all areas of your business are attended to professionally it gives your business it’s best chance to succeed. saying ‘Yeah it sounds easy to just hire someone, but I can’t afford a professional photographer right now’. CHOOSE CORRECTLY
Open a folder on your computer/desktop and title it Business Photos Royalty Free.
This is a big one, do not just download images from Google or Pinterest, those images are not yours to use legally. You need to only use images that are Royalty Free (this means the copyright holder has waived their rights to receive payment from you for their use). Free and Royalty Free do not mean the same thing, and images on the internet are not automatically royalty free. You need to find a legal source of images to use or your business could land in a lot of hot water, legally speaking. Some great sources of royalty free images are: Free: Unsplash {https://unsplash.com/@ohtilly} Oh Tilly Freebies http://www.ohtilly.net/three-freephotos-every-month/ Pay attention to licensing on all of the above sites, they outline very clearly what you can use the images for and what you can’t. Marketing your business is generally ok – selling the images to others is almost always a No No. Last but not least, if you run a product based business and need high quality images of your products AS WELL (please don’t only use product photos on your social media, people hate being constantly ‘sold to’ – always break them up with posts that inspire, inform or unite) you can look at hiring a product photographer – O It’s only up from here!

What is the purpose of art and creativity?
"Not everyone is an artist but everyone needs creativity" Woah, big opening statement there.
There is a real difference between someone formulating a creative practice than picking up a brush, moving to a rhythm on a whim or having a crack at something theatrical. However that doesn’t mean the latter isn’t just as valid as the first. I have always been a creative soul from learning music at an early age, dancing somewhat professionally as a child then into my adult life and declaring when I was 5 that I was going to be a real proper artist when I was all grown up, that it only seemed natural to me when struggling with mental health I turned to creativity. There was always something about the feeling, clarity and calm I experienced when utilizing my creative mind, it was a whole body experience.
My entire artistic practice as an artist is built around my mental health and not just the bad but also the good, the great. See the thing is we all need creativity in our lives. Be it through the effects of interior design on our headspace, listening to your favourite backing track or having a huge cry when the protagonist dies in your favourite show, it is the creative arts that impact our soul. Like many things in my life most of my personal experiences, choices and observations are in hindsight when a close friend has literally slapped me in the face to make the connection. That is just what has happened with my own experience teaching visual arts to students from 3 years to adult. There is more to a class than simply laying marks down on a surface, the process is an emotional one. Over the years I have had tears, good and bad, rich and personal conversations and watched those who have felt stuck behind a writer’s block of some sort or the wall of ‘I’m not creative’ charge through it with nervous, humour filled courage and come out the other-side with so much more than their original idea of where and what they were capable of. Photography by Love Them Wild
CREATIVITY OVERLOAD!
Alex Stalling You see the arts and being creative is important to us all, it allows us to tap into parts of our mind we often don’t allow give ourselves the space for. It gives us the space for mindfulness, for switching off our active minds and just being present in the moment. And it is right here in this space that the magic really happens. We joke about shower thoughts and how in those brief moments we come up with our best ideas, well tapping into your creative side switches us into that space in a powerful and deeper way. It is so important to give ourselves these moments for ourselves, our families and our careers. It gives us the moment to be present, mindful, switched off and inspired to move forward.

Balancing more than the Books
Emma Bowdler
The Women’s Accountant
The phrase mumpreneur may still be a buzzword, but more and more women in Australia (and around the world) are starting their own business.
As a wife, the mother of 4 wonderful children and running 3 thriving businesses, I understand what it is like to juggle both facets of personal and professional lives.
After having children, the idea of leaving them and returning to a full-time corporate career isn’t always appealing. Then you think, why not put the skills and passion into your own venture, without missing out on the precious moments with your children.
Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy. Being a mumpreneur is that much more difficult with the competing demands and trying to maintain balance in your life. Sure, when I’m working, I feel like I should be spending time with my kids; and when I’m with my kids, I feel like I’m neglecting work. However, this guilt doesn’t stop me from aiming for success in both areas of my life. Here are some tips I have for aspiring mumpreneurs to run their business and manage their homes while keeping their sanity.
30
Plan and managing your time
They say by failing to plan is planning to fail. Planning is key when you’re a mumpreneur. Plan out your month - keep a diary of upcoming events, deadlines, and kids birthdays. When you’re juggling tonnes of work as a mum, a wife, a businesswoman, if you don’t stay organised – you’re bound to be a mess. There are plenty of online planning tools that can help with this. You could even keep a spreadsheet or you could even stick to the old physical diary. It helps to keep personal and work appointments on the same calendar, so you don’t overlook any key dates.
Find your tribe
Connect with other professionals in your industry, and chat with other start-up mums. Whether you’ve already established your business, or are thinking of starting out, finding the right people will help you succeed. It can be a cut throat world with so many new companies saturating the market; the key to maintaining your sanity is to find your tribe – a group of like-minded people who will support you through the struggles and triumphs. There are plenty of excellent websites, Facebook groups, networking events you can join, where you can meet up in person, or get support virtually. Once you find your tribe, they will encourage you, offer light on the dark days when things get too much, when you’re overwhelmed by competition duties. They get you.
Know your numbers
Hey, not everyone is going to be a trained accounting professional, but you need to understand how your business works financially. How you’ll make money, what your expenses are and where your break-even point is. It helps to get a qualified accountant to review your business plan to get some advice before jumping in. I’ve helped many women establish their own business, and it can be an intense experience. Learn how to budget, keep your own books, be aware of key ATO dates; not only will you save some money at the start, it also pays to be on top of the financial health of your business and avoid nasty surprises at tax time.
Know your strengths
There is no doubt, mumpreneurs have some seriously amazing super powers. Taking the time to discover your strengths and focusing on how you can leverage those skills to help you become successful in your industry is vital in the mumpreneur journey. Just as important is knowing your weaknesses. While the idea of improving your weaknesses might be appealing, the reality is, your weakness is someone else’s strength. Wouldn’t you rather use your strengths to drive your business’s growth rather than learning a new skill that takes your already precious personal and family time?
At the end of the day, the answer to success is finding the right balance – it’s a feeling we hope to achieve, yet somehow it manages to escape us. If you’re still on the fence about starting out your own venture have a go and have the comfort of knowing there is a network of women out there who will be there to support you along the way.

AMY MCGLADE |
Amy McGlade is a wife, mum of 4, a Midwife and the creator of a DNA Jewellery EMPIRE!' From a hobby to a successful business with a massive following. Amy is a Mumpreneur that loves to collaborate and share her knowledge. Can you tell us a little about how your mumpreneur journey started?
I remember googling ‘can you turn a hobby into a business’ – trying to find out if others did this sort of thing and hoping it wasn’t just me and I wasn’t a crazy person and that I wasn’t selfish for wanting to make money out of my products – Google led me to the AusMumprenuers Community. I found the host of the page, Katie on Facebook and I messaged her for guidance and when asked she confirmed that ‘heck yes I could make money from my hobby!’ I then found a Government checklist of all the things you need to start a business – like a business name, an ABN etc and I thought – you know what. I CAN do this. I actually strategically turned my hobby into a business by setting up a Facebook account, registered a business name, got an ABN.
In the beginning I found it quite isolating because I still wasn’t confident in what I could do and I remember a couple of months into it we went to the accountant my husband uses for his own business and I told him I had started a business and he told me that if I ever earnt over $8000 in a year I might have to declare it – the following year I told him I made $106 thousand dollars – and then he was interested! I think it’s really hard for a Mum in business, we hold a lot of guilt. But I did start investing in myself, I have had multiple mentors over the years, I actively sought help which is a big part of my personality. I was also aware that I couldn’t do it alone – I’m not sure if all Mumpreneurs have that feeling but I think we are often very conditioned to thinking we need to handle things alone – you know we think we have to raise our kids alone and manage our homes and our husbands alone, but I just knew that I couldn’t do this alone. My vision was massive – I had no intention of just earning $50 a week from a side business I knew that I wanted more so I knew I needed help to achieve this.
Sometimes there isn’t a lot of help available, but I have noticed a big shift over the years of women now supporting each other and there’s a lot more information sharing – from professional website designers for example who had those professions and then they had their babies and they realised how hard work it is to work and be a Mum. Do you think investing in your personal development has helped you come not from a place of fear but empowerment which helps you collaborate, where as some who don’t it may mean they simply don’t have the foundation or core that is required to do this, do you think?
Yes, I think you’re right in that it’s not always innate, some of these lessons actually have to be learned. Five years ago I wasn’t comfortable if people wanted to be like me, I felt like they were trying to take what I had but working on myself with mentors made me realise a bigger more wide vision and helped me emotionally invest in my business and aided in having the knowledge to want to collaborate.
"
My vision was massive, I had no intention of just earning $50 a week from a side business. Did you have support from your friends and family to do this or did you have to do it alone whilst growing your confidence and your business solo?
Yeah it’s a really interesting concept, family have always been really supportive – my husband and I have been together since I was 14 and he knows me really well and we encourage each other but long term friends have found it really hard . I call this the crab bucket mentality – we are all in the bucket together and the middle class white people, all the same types of schools etc and then if you try to get out of that bucket and maybe get a little higher or try something a little bit different I don’t think that support is there . Maybe it’s a mixture of them not understanding what you are doing or why you are doing it – saying you can’t go out with them because I have to answer 500 Facebook messages was just incomprehensible for some. I needed support from women in business – things like mummy business groups, I would actively seek out women in business whose brands I liked and basically stalk them! A good example here is my mentor Angela, years and years ago I send her ‘twenty things I want to know about you’ and at the time I thought – we are going to be best friends, we are going to connect here! I honestly believe you have to actively seek this because it isn’t easily found. People in business understand profit and loss etc and the overheads and they can easily calculate what is actual take home earnings and understand everything it takes to create a product. I really had to create my own support network of like minded woman as they were not just around me. I sometimes found it quite isolating that my ‘friends’ weren’t able to give me the support I needed in business
In some ways I have created an entire business around this isolation and needing to build it up when I felt like people didn’t understand or they were nasty or I felt alone and un-supported so I intentionally set about to create a space where people in the same industries and I could network and feel supported.
We are all about collaboration and sharing of information, sometimes it can be hard for women to grasp that concept because they sometimes feel like they need to keep their business close and guarded but collaboration makes a much more solid foundation.
Collaboration just wins – everyday it’s a win. People often ask me if I feel like my students have taken the knowledge and gone on to build their own business and I am left with nothing – but I don’t feel like that at all – the world is massive and collaboration is never a bad thing and what you put out you definitely get back.
What are some of your tips that you can share for a star t-up business?
I think research and don’t be afraid to personally grow first – work out what is important to you, who do you want to work with, what problems are you going to solve, really nut that out first because if you don’t have those answers you’ll just go round and round in circles and you’ll be doing it only for you, not marketing to others. Get to know your audience. Work on that, work on yourself as a personal brand. In this age of social media where you are accessible to others you really need to portray yourself exactly how you want your business portrayed because people will cross check and you need to be consistent. You need to accept that not everyone will like you and that’s ok – it’s really easy in the beginning to try to please everyone but the longevity of that is impossible and remaining quiet and vanilla and placid won’t support your brand – so be who are really are from the beginning. If you don’t naturally have support from other women in your life – seek it out – join groups, communities, actively learn and don’t be afraid to invest in yourself.

I am Amy McGlade, founder of Baby Bee Hummingbirds. I am deeply passionate about celebrating motherhood, and preserving a mother’s most sacred milestones by capturing her essence in my work. My Luxe Experience packages and Embryo Ash Studios allow my clients to send me their breastmilk and DNA inclusions (including embryos, cremation ash, hair, placenta capsules and much more) so I can infuse them in high quality, stunning and custom jewellery keepsakes. I look at my creations as a collaboration between myself and my clients, with each order personally explored and discussed over the phone. My turnaround is incredibly fast, with orders sent out in 7-21 days. My DIY Crafting Kit is the perfect alternative for the clients who would like to take a more “hands on” approach by crafting their own special items at home. Some frequently asked questions are; What do I tell my Obstetrician or Midwife? Well the short answer is Your Placenta belongs to you. You are completely within your rights to take it home with you. You will need to mention your wishes of keeping your placenta so it is not checked and discarded after birth. If you are choosing to encapsulate it you will need to follow strict safe food handling procedures, this is to prevent food poisoning, We help you with this also with instructions to make it nice and stress free. How long does the whole process take? We aim to have your completed capsules back to you within 24 to 48 hours. What else is in my capsules? YOUR capsules will contain ONLY YOUR PLACENTA! We follow a VERY strict program with the APPA training, nothing other than dehydrated placenta powder is in your capsules. The traditional method (Steamed) there is chilli, ginger and lemon included in the water ONLY of the streaming step of this process. After the steaming step is completed these elements are removed and safely disposed of. What if I get mastitis while I'm still taking my Placenta capsules? We recommend that you stop taking your placenta capsules for the course of your treatment of the infection (any infection) as placenta has a warming affect on the body. How do I know you are giving me MY placenta back in the capsules? We can 100% guarantee that you will receive YOUR placenta in your capsules. Shelby and I have 2 separate workspaces that we work from and will only EVER process one placenta at a time. Equipment and workspaces are washed and sanitised between each client.

Bringing Your Business to Market As a small child, one of my fondest memories was going to the Salamanca Markets in Tasmania and being in awe of the vast treasure trove of goods as far as the eye could see! Looking at all the trinkets and wares that I could spend my little stash of coins on and coming home to show my purchases off with pride. Fast forward, more years than I care to admit, and I have now been attending markets and events from the other side of the story, as a stallholder with over 10 years of experience under her belt. I have also had the pleasure of running large markets and events with 6 years of experience. Over the years I often hear the same question being asked “I am about to do my first market please HELP!” So, let’s start at the very beginning, before you even think about what to pack and what you will need for the day you need to research your event. I guarantee that in every town there are numerous events that you could attend but not all of them will be a match for you. Here are some questions you should ask when choosing your first event:
The Check List
One of the biggest things that turns off a customer is seeing a stallholder sitting down and not being involved in their stall. I know it is not possible to stand all day, but if you are sitting down are you still engaging with your customers? Are you greeting each one with a smile or a "hello"? Make every customer that steps inside your stall feel important... because they are! Without them your day is just a day out, lugging heavy boxes of stock around.
y first m o d o out t ELP! H I am ab E S t, PLEA e k r a m
Here are some questions you should ask when choosing your first event: Who is my product for? Does this event cater to that demographic? What is my price range? If it is a flea market style event it will not attract a clientele willing to pay boutique prices. Is this market specifically catering for businesses like my own? The very best way to get a feel for whether a market or event is a good match for your business is to go along as a customer. As a customer you will be able to get a feel for the types of stalls in attendance, the flow of traffic, what demographic of customers are in attendance and the mood that the event generates.
By far the most important thing you can ever bring to your stall is YOU!
Did you know that you are the most important part of your stall? And I know you think that, "of course I am part of my stall". But are you really? Many stallholders can make the mistake of thinking that just being there and having a great stall is enough. This is not the case. YOU are the most powerful advocate for your products. If you sell jewellery, are you wearing any of it? If you sell clothing are you modelling any of it? If you are not going to wear your products why should other people?
Plus there is the fact that no-one else knows your products as intimately as you do. You know how many hours went into creating that particular item, what supplies you used, how many hours of research you did. If you see a customer looking at your products, tell them about it. Show how passionate you are and why it is such a great item. If you are not excited about your goods, they will not be either.
Once you find an event that feels right for you, the all-important market day checklist comes into play!
Here is my suggested list of items that may be useful to bring on the day: Packaging - Lots of it! Let's be optimistic here and think that we are going to sell LOTS of goodies. BUSINESS CARDS - Not everyone will have money on the day BUT everyone can take a business card and it helps to reinforce your branding and brand recognition. Tables and chairs (if not supplied) Tent Marquee (if outdoors and not supplied) Full length tablecloths – Tablecloths allow you to place excess stock or empty boxes beneath your tables out of sight and is much more visually appealing Calculator - Please remember this. In the excitement of a large sale I myself have miscounted and found afterwards that I gave a rather large, unintended, discount to the now ecstatic customer. Pens and Notepad - Chances are your pen will decide that market day is the day that it will run out of ink so ensure you bring a spare. A notepad is a great way to take custom orders or jot down ideas on the day. Display items or racks - Height is a great way to draw attention to your stall and items. Spare products - Bring a variety of products to suit a variety of budgets, spare stock can be left under the tables or in the car. Rubbish Bag - Markets are run in many cases by volunteers, please make their job easier by taking your rubbish with you at the end of the day or disposing of it thoughtfully. Water bottles and food - Some markets or events you may not get time to leave your stall to go buy food or there may be limited food options. Bringing your own ensures that you get much needed nutrition and hydration throughout the day. Panadol - Better safe than sorry, sometimes the bright sunlight or loud noises of a crowd can get too much. Scissors, blutack, cable ties and sticky tape - For unexpected adjustments or repairs. Price tags or labels - There will always be one or two products that you may have overlooked when pricing. Adequate Cash Float - This can vary depending on your price range of products, how many people are at the event etc. For myself I usually have a float of $100-$200 depending on the size of the event. Basic Tool Kit - For myself as a jewellery stall I always to try to bring some basic tools and supplies. Not everyone has the same sized wrist or neck and the ability to make on the spot adjustments can mean the difference between a sale and no sale. Sunscreen and sunglasses - If it is an outdoor event PLEASE remember sunscreen! I have come home looking like a lobster WAY too often because I thought I would be fine under my market tent. Tissues and Lip Balm - On a cold, dry, winters day, you will thank me for this addition. A cash tin, belt or apron - I LOOOOOVE my market money belt!!! You will not catch me wearing a bum bag, instead I use a festival belt. It has lots of pockets to stash various items in and a few zippered pockets to keep my cash secure. I have a lockable cash tin for when my belt gets a bit too full of coins and the like. Alternate Payment Options – Mobile EFTPOS devices, Paypal Here and Square are all a great way to take sales as many people do not carry cash these days. Portable Charger – At a long event you do not want your mobile or your payment device going flat.
Once you have your checklist complete – go out there and have some fun! Remember that market day is not just about sales - you are meeting potential repeat customers, you are networking with other businesses, you are advertising your product and you are seeing firsthand the joy that your product can bring people. Good luck on your new market venture.

Ticks ALL the boxes
With the recent growth of Toowoomba Mumpreneurs the time came for me to return to work came much sooner then I had ever imagined. I was excited and also nervous and scared to find care for my youngest child. The sadness and mum guilt hit me hard, I was worried about enrolling him in day care, lots of things crossed my mind. No one not even my husband who is FIFO thought I would actually find anywhere to live up to the expectations I had. The crazy list of things a daycare centre would have to facilitate for me to trust them with my ‘baby’ After not finding what I was looking for and almost giving up I was recommended Charley’s Place Redwood. I tried to go in openminded but I was still not 100% sure I would EVER find somewhere. When we walked in We were greeted with warm, genuinely beautiful, caring love and made instantly to feel like part of the family. Jackie the director was so excited to see us and didn’t hesitate to make Wyatt and I feel comfortable in this new environment. I felt welcomed and not at all like I was interrupting the daily work of staff. We were shown around the entire centre not just the room Wyatt would be in and told about the centres program and all the amazing things the children had to engage in and have hands on learning and forest play.
"
All the things provided too like nutritionally balanced meals and snacks and nappies if he still needed. I was so excited and not mention surprised that I felt completely comfortable and like Wyatt was in a safe and loving space. After I expressed my nervousness and sadness about my baby going to day care the wonderful staff told me the words I needed to hear...’You are allowed to feel sad’ This is something that I wasn’t expecting, I had previously gotten ‘He will be fine’ ‘isn’t her your fourth baby?’ So with the incredible amount of support and no pressure and I didn’t feel like he was just a number to fill rooms, I had seen all I needed to see and I took an enrolment package home with the INTENTION of returning it. Wyatt started the very next week and LOVED IT!!! I was allowed to call as many times as I liked, I am given photo updates during the days he attends and he always wants to go to WYATT’S KINDY and see his friends and play outside. I really do have crazy high standards (like unrealistic kind of stuff) when it comes to choosing early childhood education for my children but Charley’s Place Redwood ticked all the boxes for me
Wyatt started the very next week and loved it

Why is the Kia Carnival such a popular family car?
Toowoomba Kia & Toowoomba Mumpreneurs
What was it about Toowoomba Mumpreneurs that made you want to sponsor us? When Mumpreneurs first approached us for the opportunity to partner, I was excited about the idea. Mumpreneurs is an idea and a movement that I believe previously had no representation and shows great potential to help all mums in business to grow, both personally and professionally. The idea that Toowoomba Kia could be a part of a program/business like this was something we just had to be involved in.
The Kia Carnival oozes family, space, luxury and fun! With its bold exterior, eight comfortable seats, air-conditioning throughout, one of the most versatile interiors with adjustable everything and the latest integration and safety technologies.
"I LOVE my new Kia Carnival! So much space for the 4 kids. Thank you for your hard work Brett" - Emma Mogg Can you tell us about the family friendly features that the Kia Carnival has?
Where do we begin?! The dual electric doors and tailgate (SLI and Platinum models) are the ultimate in family friendly. Whether you have a car load of kids for the school run or are picking up a week’s worth of groceries, this feature makes the everyday tasks easy. The electric door system also features obstruction recognition. If there was a child’s arm in the door as it was trying to close, the door recognises the obstruction and opens again without causing harm or injury. The Carnival also boasts four child restraint anchor points, three of which are ISOFIX compatible.
Versitile and fully adjustable interior with the Latest Safety Technologies Tell us about yourself Brett? And about Toowoomba Kia
This year marks my 10th year working in this business in various roles, and now I’m so proud to have Toowoomba Kia become a part of our group. We are a locally managed business and being active within our community is a key focus. If you keep your eyes peeled, you’ll no doubt spot us around town putting on a community bbq, sponsoring a charity fun run or helping out a local sports team. From a broader perspective, Toowoomba Kia (along with the rest of our business) is a part of A.P. Eagers, Australia’s oldest listed automotive retail group.

15 MINUTE MAKE UP GUIDE Over my 10 years as a Makeup Artist I’ve seen many trends come and go, some of which I’m really quite glad to see the back of! BUT there is one common phrase I’ll hear at least once a week. ‘I don’t have time; can you do my makeup EVERY day?’ I’m going to take you through a super quick ‘How to’ on achieving your everyday makeup style including product type recommendations to help you choose what to keep in your makeup kit for a quick but all day application! So here it is! Your little step by step guide to achieving that 15 minute makeup when you need to get out the door!
#HELPFUL HINT
Helpful Hint: Complete your skin care routine half an hour before doing your makeup, this will give your moisturiser time to absorb into your skin and lay the perfect ground work for lasting makeup! Step 1: Base Apply your Foundation. Tip #1: I find that most mineral foundations apply quickly, are generally in a loose powder and buff into the skin in a circular motion using a kabuki brush. Tip #2: Cream and mousse consistencies also apply quickly with a sponge or buffing brush
Step 2: Conceal Apply concealer to the under eyes, nose and chin and any areas you’d like a little extra coverage. Apply by gently tapping with your finger tips, blending into your foundation. (No we don’t need dots, dashes or upside down triangles!) Tip #3: Pen concealers are great for quick use. You can apply directly to the area with the brush tip. Photographer: Vici Media Model: Laurie Oxenford

Step 3: Powder If you chose a cream, liquid or mousse Foundation you will need to set with a powder. Apply with a bigger fluffy brush or press into the skin with a puff for heavier coverage. Tip #4: Setting powders can be colourless or slightly tinted, and they do exactly what the name suggests; set. If you’d like more coverage, a foundation powder is what you need. Apply this with a puff pressing into the skin. Step 4: Blush Blush is a great way to add colour to your look and lift the cheek. The colour choices are endless; however, I recommend a soft pink or peach for a fresh natural look. Tip #5: Powder Blushes are quick to apply. Use a smaller fluffy brush and start lightly on the apples of the cheek, blending out. Quick Tip: Not so great at applying blush? Definitely use a powder! It is much easier to blend or soften if you are accidentally heavy handed! Step 5: Eyes I recommend that you have at least a neutral 3 colour shadow palette in your personal Kit. The lightest colour can be blended over the brow bone and mid colour over the entire lid. Tip #6: Got some extra time? Blend the darker colour through your crease for a more defined look! Tip #7: Invest in a set of eye makeup brushes. With just a 3-5 piece set you’ll have the right tools for the right job.
Step 6: Brows Brows frame the face and it is important to give a little shape to them. If you have a great brow shape a tinted brow gel will be all you need to set them in place. If you find that you need to fill in a little, a brow pencil or crayon is quick and easy. Tip #8: Not great at filling in your brows? Brow stencils are a thing, although they may not suit everyone. Book in to have your brows shaped and have your therapist guide you on creating the right shape for you. Tip #9: Brow powders are great too, but can take a little longer to apply (the best tool for this is an angled brush).
Step 7: Lips Pop on a layer of your favourite tinted lip balm. This will add a touch of colour and hydration. Tip #10: Lip balms in tubes are handbag friendly and quick to apply. Tip #11: Got some extra time? Apply a lip liner and lipstick.
Step 8: Eye Liner Gel based eye liner pencils are great to use Simply blend over your liner with an angled brush for a smoother or smoky finish. Tip #12: Choose black eye liner for a defined look or a chocolate brown for a softer look. Tip #13: You can even multitask your eye shadow. Remember the darkest colour in your eye shake trio? Using an angled brush, press a thin line across your lash line. Apply until your desired depth of colour is achieved. Step 9: Mascara There are so many mascaras option available. Choose your preference; water resistant or waterproof. Tip #14: Use black mascara for definition or brown mascara for a softer look. Tip #15: Smudged your mascara putting it on? Fear not! Let it set and then with a cotton tip, wipe and twist (in one motion) over the smudge and it will lift right off! Quick Tip: waterproof or water resistant? Choosing one of these options means your mascara will not easily run into your eyes. Tubing mascaras are great lash friendly products too.
So, there you have it. A bunch of tips and tricks to help you create natural and fresh everyday makeup and get your day started! Want to know more? Or book yourself in for a One on One Makeup Lesson to get you ready to take on the world?

COLLABORATION VS COMPETITION
C
We can create sustainable & balanced collaborations through empowering ourselves through Self-Love!
by Tammie Pike
ollaboration is the new way to thrive in business, but before you jump into collaborating with another Mumpreneur we have to look at what creates a sustainable and balanced collaboration. Yes we definitely need to have clear communication of expectations, written agreements and so on but before all that there is something really important to grow for you to be in a place of confidence of yourself and your products and/or services as well as openness of heart and mind to be able to work and communicate with others effectively and fairly and most importantly to not compete. That one thing that will get you to that space is SELF-LOVE! When you practice self-love and give more to yourself, prioritise your needs and well being you feel better within yourself; healthier, more confident, more respectful of your time, energy and boundaries. You also become more brave. What does self-love actually mean? The words have been thrown around so much these days, that people are becoming desensitised to what it really means. Self-love is a state of acceptance & gratitude for oneself that stems from being disciplined with practices, rituals and habits that support your physical, psychological and spiritual growth.
Self-love grows our life force & energy and It is our obligation to ourselves, family we can grow it daily through our actions. & community to take responsibility of our mindset, actions, health and well When we perform practices & rituals that being. expand our self-love, we become more By becoming responsible, you become compassionate, understanding & empowered, you make better choices accepting of our weaknesses as well as our for yourself and those around you. strengths, we have less need to explain away our so called 'faults', we become As you start filling up your own cup, more balanced within our life & create you become more empowered and more fulfilling endeavours within our life & self-loving. For me my biggest collaboration was 15 Things to help you cultivate becoming a co-creator of a women’s Self-Love: community that came in the form of Toowoomba Mumpreneurs, a group that 1. Asking yourself: how do I feel? What do had the foundation created from love yet I need today? Then do it. needing to learn more about self-love, community and collaboration to be able 2. Create daily rituals that fill your cup. 3. Find out what sparks joy, happiness & to grow & thrive Because I have done the inner work, I was able to step into this role fully & my life became even more enriched, not only because of my business partner and friend Emma Mogg but also because I could share with flow and ease the joy of sisterhood and self-love as I live and breathe it, which means I am able infuse that into our group. Today, many months on, our group of Mumpreneurs are letting go of the old way of doing business and life which was based on competition, comparing, the fear of being judged, not being enough or fearful that someone would take something from them. As we heal, grow and love ourselves something amazing happens. We start to to work with other people without having the monkey mind going on in the background such as, she is better than me, I am better than, I do more, I am, I want, they aren’t, not good enough. Instead we come from a place of openness and a willingness to share with another in some way that is mutually beneficial whether it is in a monetary, energy or connection. Collaboration has led to so much success for me in ways I never dreamed of and it all started by choosing to embark on a journey of self-love, self re-discovery and empowerment. Because I chose to love myself I was brave enough to love and trust another woman with my vision, my dreams and desires, which connected deeply with Emma. As you can see, it has led to us being able to educate, empower and elevate thousands of other women

Grab a cup of tea, and let's journey into the next 3 months. Astrology is all about going with the flow. When we align ourselves with the cycles of life, we swim downstream. Sometimes it's smooth, and sometimes there are rapids. But when the water is rough, there's nothing more comforting than the knowledge that we're not alone.
We will read the moving map in the sky, and get a sense of the energy to come. This way, we can navigate the challenges, and harness the incredible opportunities that are available at this amazing time in human history.

with Bec Wheeler June 22 - July 22 The solar month begins with the official launch of Toowoomba Mumpreneurs Magazine! Woohoo! This momentous moment coincides with 2 astrological events. The first is the Sun entering the sign of Cancer. The 2nd is the planet Neptune stationing and turning retrograde (this means from our viewpoint on Earth, it looks like it's going backwards.) When a planet turns retrograde, it's an invitation to reflect on and review a certain area of our lives. In this case, we're being asked to examine the dreams and visions we have for the future. Have these changed? Are some adjustments needed? What do we REALLY want, in our heart of hearts? Neptune asks us to remove any veils of illusion. Is your vision somewhat clouded in a certain area of your life? The area of your chart in which this station occurs can indicate which part of your life is under review. Come July 3rd we have a Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer. Cancer is all about home and family, so we may feel called to find more work/life balance during this time. If you've been caught up in your business world, give yourself permission to shift gears and focus on family. The sense of connection and cohesiveness will lend itself to powerful action in your professional life when the time is right. July 8th heralds the mythical Mercury Retrograde. Back up your files and website! Preferably a few days prior. The time around the station can be clunky for travel, communication and technology, all things governed by Mercury's rule. This journey through the underworld however opens up a powerful time for deep, meaningful conversation and exploring what's there beneath the surface. Be cautious though. This retrograde begins in the early degrees of Leo, which can be fiery and fierce. Make sure to breathe before responding, and resist the urge to need to have the final word. Listening and understanding is more important than being right. The comet Chiron joins Mercury in his backward dance a day later activating a time of deep healing. With relationships in the spotlight, particularly with children, we are reminded that taking the time to repair our close connections is always time well spent. A partial Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on July 17th brings us to our second month.
Are you ready? Let's begin.

July 22 - August 22 The Sun enters Leo on July 23rd, and 5 days later, Venus joins her. With all this Leo energy around now, our creative instincts are firing up. It's time to shine! Share your work. Create something beautiful. This is a playful time, where we can harness our imagination and inspiration. We can maximise this creative power by taking the time to connect with ourselves, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. Sing, dance, draw and let the inspiration flow. It will serve you in every area of your life. Jupiter goes direct on August 11, calling in a time of great expansion. Money can flow freely towards you now, and growth is inevitable. UNLESS you are unknowingly holding yourself back. The greater transits at play mean that our lives can only blossom as much as we ourselves are willing to. Personal growth is essential, and is a guaranteed way to make the most of the energy that is available right now. The Sun enters Virgo on August 23, and August 30 brings the New Moon, also in Virgo. The energy shifts to a more practical, detail-oriented vibe. This is a great time to visit your accountant if you haven't already, and set some plans in motion for the coming financial year. Stow a little money away for a rainy day. Virgo is also a time where we separate the grain from the chaff. We can let go of what we no longer need and focus on what truly brings us joy. It's also a great time to harness the power of routine, or, if this is already a strong point for you, consider what adjustments could be made to create more harmony and flow in your day-to-day life. After this time of grounding and preparation, we are ready for the next phase. On the 14th and 15th of September, Mercury and Venus coast their way into Libra. Libra LOVES the high life. Fine food, and everything in balance. This can be a time of great abundance, with Venus as the ruling planet of Libra. Enjoy it. Soak it up. If your wallet isn't overflowing yet, do something that makes you FEEL deliciously rich. Have a silky bubble bath and paint your toenails, whatever floats your boat.
This energy of abundance is the key to calling more wealth and love into your life. Be grateful for what you DO have, and be open to more and more flowing towards you each day. There are amazing times to come. I can't wait to watch them unfold! Join me in the next edition of TMM for another installment.

Mindfulness, FOR CHILDREN What is mindfulness for children? and, Why is it important for a child's development?
Mindfulness is the practice of being present. It puts children in connection with others, their environment, their own breath, bodies, entire being and something greater than the self. The early practice of mindfulness can embed habits that help children work through challenges and find gratitude in daily life. Over time, children become more resilient and better at managing stress. You can see their confidence and attention span grow. What are some ways for families to easily incorporate mindfulness into their everyday lives?
What techniques do you teach in your classes?
It depends on the focus of the class. Some of the mindfulness practices I share most frequently with children include belly and nostril breathing, counted breath, rainbow breathing, progressive relaxation, identification of the senses, the metta meditation of kindness and compassion, and Dr Adam Fraser’s The Third Space. There are some great meditations parents can access for free on apps like Insight Time. It’s important to keep in mind with anything related to breathing, that kids’ respiration is faster than adults and, to meet them where they are at, it is best to start with themes that interest them and to build up the length of the practice.
Taking a few moments as part of a morning routine, breathing together – there are plenty of different techniques, with some easier to start with than others. Begin with a breath for each year of the child’s age then build to a minute for each year. Once they are in the habit, they might practice for longer, or more than once a day. Create a gratitude jar. Give a reason why you love each other at least once daily. Practice a little yoga. Sit together on the grass in the sunshine. Eat in slow motion – savor every bite. Create a list of ways to be mindful together! What positive benefits have you seen in children that practice mindfulness?
They become better at self-regulating emotions. They start finding it easier to ‘switch on’ their mindfulness in moments of stillness or action. Their confidence after practicing or incorporating it just melts me. To hear words like “calm”, “peaceful”, “happy”- you know you are helping them create a beautiful gift for themselves. Some children come already having this experience at home, day-care or school and I love hearing the joy in their voice when they share this.

What age groups do you work with?
I work with all ages, teaching yoga, pilates martial arts and personal training. I see mindfulness as central to all of them. Meditation and Kids’ Yoga are specialisations of yoga teaching.I enjoy working in schools and centres as well – the more mindfulness in education facilities the better. At Kickstart, I runMums and Bubs (on demand) and 2-5 years with parent/carer – either Yoga Story, Snack and Savasana or Mini Nimble Ninjas, 5-12 years (in Nimble Ninjas), and Family Yoga (with a parent/carer or older sibling). I work with teens one-to-one, as their schedules are often too busy for classes. I also love teaching adults, especially beginners and those who may have missed out on mindfulness and yoga in their younger years, as well as prenatal clients who are bringing children into their lives.
Miranda Mitchell - Kickstart Martial Arts and Yoga Toowoomba
How can parents get involved?
At home, parents can use books, Youtube, apps and their imagination to encourage mindfulness. At Kickstart, they can get children involved in private, semi-private or small-group sessions. Nimble Ninjas is purely for the kids, but parents can get involved in other classes (for most classes, the cost is just for one participant – the accompanying adult is free). Just send your best contact details and a few words about your child to contact@kickstartmartialartsandyoga.com.au

THE WHOLE My name is Rebecca, hoarder of earrings, maker of fobs, drinker of espresso martinis, collector of tattoos a mother of daughters, a toy poodle named Sir William Wallace... I am an entrepreneur who just so happens to be a mum... After the birth of my third child, I realised my passion for success was not going to come from making someone else's dreams become a reality. I was made redundant through a business restructure and left feeling so abandoned and vulnerable. Within months I was toying with the idea of how I could work from home. Get Fob'd was born and how I found Toowoomba Mumpreneurs... The biggest trend I saw was mums who struggled with balance, creating mum guilt! It's almost taboo to say the guilt of missing out on your child's first steps, first day of school or every other Sunday soccer game is a soul shattering non-event. I quickly discovered I lacked that guilt in the micro, to have impact in the macro. Mums search for validation of their guilt to be everything to everyone, for taking away valuable time from their children's attention.

I have no idea if it was being raised by an awkward mix of Silent Generation x Baby Boomer parents from total polar backgrounds, that created me to be so outspoken and determined or that the life lived, simply produced this resilient and courageously vulnerable woman that I've grown into. I know my truth, and I know A) working a 9 to 5 just kills my soul and B) in order for my family to come first, my business comes first, because THAT is how I thrive. Daily, I have women tell me how much I inspire and motivate them. That they don't have to 'allow' other mums guilt them for their hustle. That they can do whatever their soul sings to them without fear of being reprimanded by our peers. I couldn't care less here or there what your work-life balance is. Just don't be embarrassed or ashamed for the sake of others. Mindset and perspective is everything when it comes to success. Knowing yourself, like really understanding your own strengths, weaknesses, flaws as well as what drives you, is the most competitive edge to have in business. And my competitive passion for making my self known is what fuels me.

Powerful Benefits of going on a women's
Retreat I live and breathe retreats and I often find myself having to describe the transformation (a very overused word) to someone, and I always struggle to do this. How can I translate to you the feelings on a retreat? How can I tell you about the changes that occur in the first moments and days of an experience that has no words? Where lifetime thoughts and scripts can change. Where pain turns to love and the old is left behind, where feelings of jealousy, not being heard, not being seen and not being enough fade away. Where you are one again with the earth and with life, and a place where you are enough. This is no different on a yoga retreat or a business retreat, the change can be incredible. You cannot know if you don't know, if you haven't felt and haven't known about such a thing. Reading the words on an email or listening to someone tell you their story won’t make sense if you have not experienced this yourself. When you are with a group it can change you, when you have someone holding space so that it is safe to be vulnerable and expose your inner most thoughts and learn what you are there to learn. I remember my first retreat and coming home and seeing everything differently –even the colours of the landscape seemed brighter, it was like a veil had been lifted.
You are Enough

Retreats Change Lives I always say Retreats change lives -they just do. I have seen it and do see it every time. I see faces change and thoughts grow and people feel love that they had forgotten. That purity and divine that is us. I love that this is the thing I am meant to be here to do, the purpose that I serve and the space that I hold. I love that as a social worker I learnt many lessons of people and how we operate, and how life can roadblock us so we become hidden. I love that my life took me on an unseen journey that caused me pain and stress, and has now taken me to a place of love and gratitude, a place where I can guide others and step into my true being and self. I love that I get to show others the ways to hold their own space in retreats and do it right the first time.
Pieces of Magic I love watching them blossom and that I hold that space for them alone in that moment and I love watching the ripple effects of what they do. At that time we are all one because we hold purity and love at our source. Retreats are intricate pieces of magic that take you away from the ordinary into an extraordinary place and allow you to focus on exactly what you need to, they hold space and grace to do what you are here to do. To take others on a journey of grace. If your role in this lifetime is to take women on a business journey so they can be fulfilled and step into their glory, or your role is to take them on a connection to their innermost thoughts it is all enough. You are enough, we are enough, they are enough.

TAHNEE DEARLING @homeofthewildlings
Tahnee Dearling, mum of two gorgeous boys, wife and Registered Nurse has grown her beautifully branded Instagram page authentically to over 24K followers. Her beautiful colour pallet, attention to detail and divine design skills have made her Instagram an account that businesses want to have their product seen on. Did you create @homeofthewildlings with the intent to have a business?
It all started when I had Parker. I didn’t start my page to be anything on Instagram in particular, I’ve just always loved decorating and interior design and was so excited when I fell pregnant to decorate a nursery. I decided to shy away from the traditional nursery themes for boys and i went with an Indian/ Tribal theme nursery - most of the decor I purchased from small handmade businesses on Instagram. I started taking photos of his nursery and sharing them on my page which consisted of only family and friends and tagging those businesses which lead me to gaining new followers and new opportunities. After a couple of months I applied for a brand rep position for this small handmade clothing business and he got it, so then we starting repping clothing and nursery decor and it has really taken off from there.
Did you have an interest in photography as well as interior design?
I love working with all the businesses I do and I’m so lucky to be able to have this opportunity and to have a creative outlet.. Initially when I started sharing photos to my Instagram account they were all taken with my iPhone and not edited with any presets - after a year or so of brand repping I purchased a second hand camera and started using that up until recently where I purchased a new camera and a prime lens and I’ve been working on my own edits that I feel make my photos much more personal. My interest of photography has definitely grown as the years have passed, now I absolutely love shooting content for brands and for my page and playing around with my edits. As for courses I’ve never taken a course in photography or interior design. Mainly all just trial and error.
64
What would your tips be for someone who wants to grow there Instagram authentically? I think the main key is to be authentic and share your content from your own personal voice. Share things that you love, don’t try to copy other people because you think what they are doing is trendy. If you find your own style and have a passion for what you do I think your account will naturally grow. My account definitely didn’t grow overnight - it takes so much time and effort to make my account what it is. Ideas of content creation, emails with businesses, shooting, editing and sharing those photos with the businesses, and then engaging on your photos and others so that it can be seen. Instagram is definitely a great little community to be apart of and I’ve made some great mama friends and great relationships with businesses so if its something your passionate about and have the time and effort to put into your account I think that's all you need to do.
Do you make an income from Instagram now? I've only recently just started getting some paid work through Instagram, It's definitely not a steady income for me at the moment. While I’ve been on maternity leave it's been a great little outlet and it's been great earning some money on the side to help pay some bills. When i go back to work though I’m not sure how it will all work and whats in store for my account. I would love to do more content creating, It's so much fun and a job I absolutely love doing, but for now I’m just doing it on the side.
e e n h Ta
Are there things you wouldn’t recommend? 1. Buying followers! or using other services to boost your pictures and making it look like they are getting lots of likes and comments. 2. Not being authentic and using your own voice to reach your own audience. 3. And don’t copy other people. Find your own style and own way of showcasing that.
Last year I personally fulfilled over three thousand orders. With dozens of lovely individuals banging down our cyber door each day, I knew it was time to level up and share my expertise with those wanting to do this professionally, too. I don’t believe in competition. I believe in collaboration and connectedness. I believe there is limitless potential in a global market and more importantly, infinite room for us ALL to be running successful businesses creating lifetimes of legacies for people. The Baby Bee Hummingbirds DNA & Breastmilk Keepsake Academy was created out of my desire to see this niche market expand globally and powerfully. With no formal learning platform available and too many learning subpar skills & techniques off Youtube, The Academy offers a gold standard world first‌ A comprehensive, personal & professional development balanced online training program for those wanting to learn the art of infusing DNA & breastmilk inclusions to resin, all the while building the businesses of their dreams. I would love for you to get in touch with my by email at academy.babybeehummingbirds@gmail.com so I can tell you about our application process. Places are limited!
"Joining the Academy really boosted my business in the right direction. Since working through the Academy content, not only have I added crafting with Breast milk to my repertoire, but I have gained valuable understanding on how to run my business ... I am now regularly fielding inquiries and taking orders, all due to the amazing lessons supplied by the Mastermind educators, especially working with Jenna Rae on branding content. Amy is nothing less then motivational!" Bec Cullen - Love Your Tribe - https://loveyourtribe.online

A Woman With A Cause Have you ever met a person who you are just in awe of? Not because of how much money they have or social status but because of what they have done?
Jen Shaw Emerge Cafe I have, and her name is Jen Shaw. What I find most engaging about her, is that regardless of her known status within the community, and abroad, she is so down to earth. Naturally an introvert, Jen has moved through her own doubts and beliefs, to be a beacon for the youth in Toowoomba and Darling downs. Jen helps them have a voice within the community, but just as important she has created a safe space for the teens to relax, unwind and be themselves. To learn skills, to be mentored and supported in creating a better life for themselves. This is all done on Jen's own time and is all self funded. When I walked into Emerge cafe for the first time I was blown away, the atmosphere was chic yet earthy, and the staff were beautiful, they were attentive and helpful with my dietary requirements (no dairy or gluten). The food is delicious and creative thanks to their head chef Robbie Attwood and team.
WHAT IS EMERGE?
Emerge is a social enterprise helping youth in the Toowoomba community. The food van, catering business and the co-working of their youth hub space are completely not-for- profit and help provide sustainable income to keep the hub open and reach out to kids in our local community doing it tough. Emerge provides a dedicated youth space, unaffiliated with any other religious, government or alternative organisation, where kids can drop in, attend a workshop, access food, clothing, hygiene items or just chill out in a safe and non-judgemental environment. Jen took time out of her busy schedule to have a sit down and chat with me about what she does and what it means for her and the community.
68
A CafÊ Like No Other I invite you all to support Emerge by either going and eating their amazing food or getting on their Social Media and support them by sharing, tagging and engaging with whatever you can to grow their reach. We would also like to say a big thank you to Jen for providing her beautiful space and catering for the Mumpreneur Magazine Launch - keep an eye out for photos and stories from the event in next quarter’s issue.

FREE RESOURCES
to grow your brand & business
WRITTEN BY: SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANTS Images by
GROW YOUR BRAND
"YOUR BIZ
& YOU WILL GROW
YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND A FORTUNE TO START OR GROW YOUR BUSINESS
LET US SHOW YOU HOW
Starting and growing a business can cost a lot of money, we know here at the Mumpreneur Magazine that if we can get helpful free resources that saves the bank balance then we are all in. Especially if it helps us with our branding, managing, creates better flow, and if it saves us time it's even better. Over the next few issues we are going to share just some of the free resources that are available to help you within your biz, especially with content creation and planning. When creating content for our tribe to consume we need to be able to create a way to cultivate a connection between yourself and your audience. To be able to invoke a response, create and do.We do this by creating good quality, helpful content. To do this I use a couple of programs and platforms and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg (to start with). Once you have your content planned out or even if you are creating 1 piece, whether a Facebook post or blog, we need to convey our message/thoughts/feelings through the visual aspect. To do this for free I have used many different free stock photos sites but my favourite is unsplash.
72
WHAT ARE YOUR FAV FREE PROGRAMS? Here are some of my top free resources. We all want beautiful images, yet if you aren't a photographer then it can be hard finding the right photo for your social media post or blog/article. Here are some amazing sites I have been using for years which allow you to use their images for free. Before you use them just make sure to read their terms & conditions. Our very own Mumpreneur Tilly Mykat also create STUNNING stock images & provides 15 FREE photos to try. Plus monthly freebies when you sign up to her newsletter. You also have a paid option which I do have because they are simply divine! Unsplash is a collection of images that have been freely given to this platform from amazing photographers. Over the years it just has got better and better. Yes the photos can be accessed by others but you still have images on hand to express or invoke a thought, feeling or emotion to help cultivate a connection with your audience Now to get out of the ‘chasing your own tail’ kind of overwhelm that a lot of business owners have when it comes to social media, we are going to be super savvy and smart and plan our content. Here are some tools to help you do that:
Images by
Now to put your post images together especially if you want to add your logo, special touches or text I LOVE using CANVA and I use it the most out of any other program other than facebook. In Canva you can design presentations, social media graphics, and more with thousands of beautiful layouts. With heaps of features that you can easily use to create epic designs. Now you are going to be super smart, savvy and proactive and schedule your content because you know that to do so will save you from the constant overwhelm of figuring out what to post each day, that it will save you hours a week and you will feel accomplished once done.
These are the two main platforms that I use to schedule my content 1. Facebook Business Page Schedule function A lot of many people know about this yet do not utilise it because it means you still have to create the content. But if you take the time once a month to write out a content plan you can schedule it and have it done saving you so much time, less overwhelm and more freedom to spend time doing other things that need to be done.
You can schedule your content but only 1 post at a time. To do so here are the steps: To schedule a post: Start creating your post at the top of your Page's timeline. Click next to Publish and select Schedule. Below Publication, select the date and time when you want the post to publish. Click Schedule. 2. LATER If you want a more easy & quicker way to schedule to your facebook & instagram you can check out a program that I use that can be done online or on an app & that is Later. McDowell
University Later allows you to plan, create, edit & schedule posts for insta & facebook, it junior fashion gives you a visual calendar which I really like. It's free to up to 30 posts per month design students for 1 account. It helps you with revealed remembering hash tags their & in the paid version will also give you suggestions. online-only fall
You can really utilise this program if you capsule want by taking their free course and collection. learning how to use all of its function . To find out more click the Later Logo below!
Each morning we wake up and we reach out into the digital world. Each morning we are bombarded with messages of positivity, instructions for life, “Be Grateful!!” we are commanded. ”Think Happy Thoughts!” we are warned. Watch that energy for “Attention Goes Where Energy Flows” So we armor ourselves with these thoughts of gratitude and positive affirmations and we soldier on. Because the unspoken rule, the one we all understand at some level, is to never, ever mention the “N” word. In today’s era of “enlightenment” with a guru for sale at every corner, there has never been more pressure to put on that happy face.
Not one of us wants to stand accused of bringing the bad vibe, not appreciating what we have, focusing on the “N”. We can turn on the news and be promptly reminded that a bad sales week, a few extra Kilos on the scale or the stress of the dealing with our loud, healthy children should not be reasons to be crying into a tea towel in the kitchen, so we soldier on. And of course along with those small gentle pulls we have the earth shattering events which, rightly, change us and shake us to our very core.
However, perhaps it’s time to acknowledge the importance of Here more than ever, in these valley’s of despair we need to allow allowing the low along with the high. ourselves and each other to When someone comes to us feeling respond with the grief, the tears and the unhappiness that respects at a low ebb, we don’t have to try and fix them with a well-worn these moments. It is this response which allows us to find our way out. platitude, we can acknowledge them, listen and allow that time and Now I am the first to admit I love to space for them to be exactly what they need to be in that moment. To read those positive little memes. I not be scared. share them myself.
"In Praise of a Bad Day" Some days when it all feels hard, I do gain inspiration from a few wellchosen words, a gentle reminder. I totally believe in the power of gratitude and know how life changing it is to view your world from this perspective.
A positive mindset, we are told, is essential, it is key. It is that positive mindset which sets you apart and takes you places. But what even is a mindset, and who decides if it’s positive or not? How are we measuring this and most importantly should we as mothers, lovers, partners, women, should we as mumpreneurs even care?
74
A mindset can be defined quite simply as a set of beliefs and attitudes which define how we deal with life. It is a combination of conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings and ideas which lay out a path and navigate us through our world. By definition a positive mindset then, would be a mindset which navigates you successfully through your world dealing with those obstacles along the way, climbing the mountains, wading through the rain and basking in the sunshine. Meeting each moment with all the resources you have at THAT particular moment. So could a positive mindset be defined as meeting all the moments, whether they are happy, sad, ecstatic, or just plain disappointing, and dealing with them as best we can, whatever our prevailing emotional state at that time?
What if we could do this without judgement, guilt or fear but with an acceptance that we are human beings in this world and to be human is to experience and embrace that beautiful rainbow of emotions, which truly make us who we are?
Unlock Your Potential Change your thoughts. Change your mind. Change your life.
Faye Hartley-Youens
We can keep our aspirations positive, we can take comfort in the knowledge that we have a mindset for success, we can celebrate how our journey is taking us closer and closer to our goals.
We. Can. Rise... We can do all of this... and we can still have a bad day.
Baby & Toddler Expo returns for
Third Year!
The businesses behind these amazing ladies include Little Miracles Maternity Wear, Evolve Women’s Health, Charlotte & Co Couture and Cannon Trailers. Kerri who has 5 kids is the Convenor, Emma with 4 kids runs the Promotions and Wendy with 3 kids takes care of Communications. All ladies work, volunteer and raise their children here in Toowoomba.
The Toowoomba Baby and Toddler Expo will return for the third year running on Saturday 20 July, from 10am to 3pm in the Founders Pavilion at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. The expo is the brainchild of local business woman Kerri Brennan, owner of Little Miracles Maternity Wear. “We’re really excited about this year’s expo, we’ve created a dynamic platform for businesses to promote their goods and services to families from Toowoomba and the greater Darling Downs region. We are also thrilled to welcome the Toowoomba Mumpreneurs as a sponsor of the event. “The Toowoomba Mumpreneurs will have their very own hub from which to promote their many diverse and dynamic Mumpreneur businesses. This is really an exciting time for Toowoomba and we couldn’t be happier to showcase these amazing businesses at our expo” she said. Kerri is herself a Mumpreneur and leads a team of 3 ‘Mumpreneurs’ to put together the Expo. Kerri Brennan, Emma Cannon and Wendy Chettle have collectively 6 businesses and 12 kids to juggle whilst also putting together Toowoomba’s only annual baby and toddler Expo. Emma Cannon owner of small business Charlotte and Co Couture, and wife of Rod Cannon, manager of the family owned business Cannon Trailers, Australia’s leading livestock trailer manufacturer, said “We Mums wear many hats and life can get very busy, but I love the satisfaction and creative outlet that running my own business gives me”.
76
“This is my second year working on the Expo and I really enjoy the collaborative approach, I love getting out of the house, away from the road train and b-double talk and away from the tiny little pieces of clothing I design”. “It’s great working with Kerri and Wendy, we’re all pretty strong women and we all have different ideas, and I think that’s what makes this expo a great success”, she said. Wendy Chettle recently moved to Toowoomba with husband David to open up specialist Obstetric & Gynaecology Practice Evolve Women’s Health, of which she is practice manager. Wendy said that she was amazed by the depth of local businesses and was excited to be part of this year’s expo. “Kerri, Emma and I have a lot of fun working together. It’s great to work alongside other mums who experience similar challenges in their day to day life” she said. Kerri Brennan said that the idea for the Expo came after regularly hearing her customers at Little Miracles Maternity Wear telling their stories about travelling to Brisbane for baby products and services. “The Toowoomba Baby and Toddler Expo is an important event for our community. It not only showcases products and services to our new and young families, but it actively promotes buying local. By supporting the expo, exhibitors and visitors are helping to keep the business in Toowoomba. Buying local is good for everyone”.
“I myself am a small business owner and the idea behind the expo was really to showcase what’s available here in Toowoomba, and to give small businesses in this region a platform to grow their business from”, she said.
“The Toowoomba Baby and Toddler Expo is an important event for our community"
The expo will take place on Saturday 20 July at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. The 2019 Expo will feature over 100 exhibitors, educational workshops and presentations & kids play area. Tickets can be purchased online for $10 or at the door on the day for $20. Mrs. Brennan said that opportunities are still available for exhibitors, for further information contact; Kerri Brennan; convenor@toowoombababytoddlerexpo.com.au or Emma Cannon; promotions@toowoombababytoddlerexpo.com.au or go to the website at http://toowoombababytoddlerexpo.com/

I lov Toowoomba Mumpreneurs!
Only a mumpreneur understands balancing 2 kids, a part-time job, daily grind of cooking, laundry and mama duties whilst scraping every spare second - not to mention dollar! - to make your side hustle, your life. When I stumbled across TMG I hoped it wouldn’t be full of preaching hormonal sleep deprived mamas... I mean, it IS full of hormonal sleep deprived mamas, but what I found was this incredible community network, and support. I had an idea for my biz and a fire in my belly fiercer than Vegeta. I started to spend hours of my ‘down’ time building relationships, sourcing collaboration opportunities, seeking support and not once have I ever been disappointed. TMG has allowed me to swap products with services I wouldn’t be able to normally afford, grow a genuine organic reach locally and build a reputation and truth within the local business community. The ROI of my business is not the financial success, it’s the emotional satisfaction and the impression I leave on my fellow peers, the knowledge that you can give back more than you take, and TMG allows me to fulfil this need. At scale, where it really matters.

I'm Emma Mogg, an Accredited DNA Jewellery Artisan. This means I have had specialised training in a world first academy where I fine tuned my craft and my technique to soul craft incredible DNA keepsakes and jewellery. Full Circle Nurture DNA Jewellery is about preserving that precious moment that made your heart burst. The possibilities are almost endless when it comes to inclusions for a custom piece - its not all about the physical side of what you are wanting to preserve. I focus on the feeling or emotion. This adds an extra element of 'precious' to your final piece, this can be a colour, a healing crystal, even a feeling you want me to infuse into your piece while it is being crafted. The grief (yes, grief) of our babies not being babies anymore, their soft super fine baby hair, the breastmilk that nourished them for however long, their cord stump or placenta powder, even their finger or toe nails I can incorporate into a stunning piece that you can treasure forever. I can preserve all of these pieces of your motherhood journey that we are made to let fly from our hands with so much joy, pride and grief. If these DNA inclusions are not an option for you there is still a way to have a keepsake piece created.
I can also craft with fabric, small beading, sand, soil, dried flowers or leaves, shells, ethically sourced insects and/or wings. Also pet fur, feathers, nails, teeth, and ashes. When I created Full Circle Nurture DNA Jewellery I was already a placenta encapsulation specialist, so I was offering my clients Placenta, umbilical cord and Yolk Sac keepsakes with my service and the Keepsake side of this business quickly took on life of it's own.
"
i love that each soul crafted,
love laced, hand made piece of keepsake jewellery is a tangible piece of a
moment in time that my clients want to hold on to and continue to feel that deep connection.
I now specialise in preserving blood into keepsake jewellery, specifically menstrual blood the finished product is breathtaking. My beautiful clients that ask for menstraul l blood jewellery are often nearing menopause, wanting to preserve and celebrate that feeling of being a powerful life giver and honour their divine femininity. DNA jewellery is the most personalised way to have a piece of a loved one close to you,, to have the essence of a precious time close and to always feel connected to what makes you feel loved, empowered and honoured.

For the last 5 years, wife & mother of 3, Louise Hamilton has grown her NMB (Network Marketing Business) from the ground up to now be one of the top leaders in her company, travelling Australia & the world speaking & attending events. Her business has created her financial freedom as well as supporting her families wealth whilst supporting others to do the same. We know how tough it can to start & run a NMB successfully especially with the bad rep that many of these types of businesses get. Louise shares the obstacles & experiences she has had to be where she is today & how to choose the right fit for you, when you wanting to start.
Why did I chose a NMB Business?
I honestly didn’t think of it as a Network Marketing business. I, like most people who start in this profession, wasn’t looking for this type of business. I was however looking for something to do around my family life. My FIFO husband and I were living in Perth and I had just had our third child, I didn’t want to return to my former career in the finance sector as the hours where not at all family friendly. With three kids under 4 I was looking for something with flexibility, growth potential & fun! Network Marketing is an incredible business model that rewards those willing to work and I love the simplicity of it.
What have I loved about it? WOW what a great question. When I first started out I was focused on my goals & what I could achieve, but over the last 5 years within this industry I have gained: Community & connection, which is what I love the most. A tribe of go-getters, professionals (mostly women) who are looking for more in life. They inspire me everyday! Personal transformation. In the last 5 years, I went from the depths of PND to now being someone who is confident, social, less anxious. Finding happiness is the best gift.
The impact this industry has on others, like the single mum who is now able to pay her bills & be there for her family, the teacher struggling with an autoimmune disease who has replaced a couple of days of teaching so she doesn’t have to work full time, the lost souls who have now been able to find a community of happy, positive, supportive people who have their back or the families that were quietly suffering financially that now have an answer to generate income instead of losing their homes. This industry is about helping others, the more you help, the bigger your business. Don’t get me wrong I still love the car, the trips, the income & all of the the incentives, but knowing that I am making a difference in my own small way is the best feeling in the world!
THE MLM MOLD
"
Can you make a
profitable income from it? YES you absolutely can!
Does that mean everyone does…. unfortunately no.
I have treated my MLM business as a real business from day one not a hobby, there is a saying in our industry that hobbies cost you money & a business makes you money. You need to be clear about what your expectations are. Is it, earning an extra $500per month? Starting on a low start, low risk investment is still a profitable business. Will it change your life joining an MLM? Not dramatically, but it will help with the day to day expenses such as food, rates, school fees, sports, savings for a house, savings for travel etc. Based on making $500/month, over a year that will create an approx. $6000 icnome from an initial start up costs of $1000 or less depending on what company you go with. Over 5 years That’s around $30,000 and that is just the starting point! Once you truly understand the geometric progression of the network marketing model , you know that in time if you work hard & consistently you will be paid a residual income & if you keep going & growing, a passive income. Rewards those

What is the hardest thing about our industry?
That’s an easy one. Lack of education, understanding and way too many assumptions! Is this for everyone? no. Is it perfect? no! So many people say no, even when they don’t know what they are saying no to. I said no to joining for at least 7 months before I had a look at the company I am now involved in. I was firmly entrenched in the “um No, I would never do that!’ even though I had no idea what 'that’ was. Once I understood the business model, I jumped straight in & have not looked back. I love this quote from Richard Branson “If some offers you an amazing opportunity and you are not sure you can do it, say yes then learn how to do it later’ Most people are looking for more income, more time, more flexibility and more choices yet they are unwilling to even have a look at what this industry can offer. Educate yourself and then make a decision
Top tips for people to create a successful MLM biz
Become a product of your product you should be your best customer. You can not sell/share/ talk about a product that you, yourself do not use. Follow your leaders. They are successful learn from them, doing everything they are asking you to do. Be authentic., Build relationships and be authentic, do not hype up the products, the truth is enough. To build a sustainable business with repeat clients and a team that sticks with you YOU must be authentic! Be consistent, do a small amount everyday to build growth and momentum. Too many people expect to be earning the big dollars with minimal effort and inconsistent effort. Like most things in life its little by little that add up to noticeable results think exercise, diet, finances. Have Fun! This industry is fun, do not take yourself too seriously, do not take things personally.
Make sure your values are aligned with the company you are looking to get involved with. For example, make sure you understand the basics of the compensation plan. Understand how you can earn $500 per month, how quickly you can do that and how easy it will be to show your team to do the same. Look at how long they have been in business as you want stability. Is their product line a range that you would buy regardless of the business attached?
Louise Hamilton
How has it changed your life?
Our life as a family has completely changed in the 5 years I have been building my Network Marketing Business . Before now, I was like a single mum (husband working away ) we only had one sole income which felt scary with all eggs in one basket, so to speak. The other benefits I have found is: Not having to work full time. Having a close knit & supportive group of friends from around the world. Having multiple streams of income. We are no longer unhappy or stressed & are more happy and positive
with a future filled with
possibilities. We can afford better holidays & travel overseas trips a couple of times a year. Guilt Free Shopping. I no longer feeling guilty about buying anything for myself. My husband who was unhappy with his previous job, landed dream job which has been the biggest impact for my family My kids now have a present parent, I have the freedom & time to be he tuck-shop mum, who can go to all the sporting events & help out with the P&F. I am there for sick days and cuddles. I get that this might not be everyone's dream but
DO keep going,
it IS mine & because of it my husband was able to
do fail forward
pursue his dream job (that meant a pay cut, which
(we all make mistakes) DO keep smiling!
we can now afford) which means he is so much happier and therefore a better husband and Dad.
De-stressing IN NON-STRESSFUL WAYS Before sharing my thoughts, I would like to share three very important facts with you: 1. Stress is a feeling that comes and goes. Unfortunately, as we live in a society where labels are so important, many people ‘label’ themselves as being ‘stressed’… it’s amazing what a difference saying “I feel” … rather than “I am” … makes to your well-being. 2. Your cells eavesdrop on every conversation you have with others and with yourself. If you are constantly `feeling stressed, then your cells will react accordingly, and your immune system will be compromised. 3. It is of the utmost importance to gain an awareness of your stressors. Often, people present to therapy with what they believe to be the root cause of their issue, whereas in actual fact it is something on a sub-conscious level unknown to them.
As an Oncology Psychotherapist (a therapist specialising in helping people cope with the emotional side-effect of cancer), every day I sit with people who are trying to alleviate their feelings of stress - as chronic levels of stress are known to affect certain tumour progressions and longevity. Every day I hear stories about how people believe that ‘stress’ has contributed to their diagnosis. For this very reason, I would like to share some of my beliefs and thoughts around ‘stress’ - the little word that has such a big effect on the lives of many people, and to suggest ways in which to de-stress in non-stressful ways. After all, there is no use in attempting to de-stress in ways that only add to your existing feelings.

De-stress IN NON-STRESSFUL WAYS
110
SO NOW, HOW TO
Remember that in life there is not always a right way of thinking or a wrong way of thinking…but simply a different way. Believing that you are always right and trying to convince others of the same, can invoke a multitude of stressful feelings. Learn to respond to situations rather than to react. When we react to situations it is without thought and is often tense and aggressive. Whereas, a response is calm and non-threatening as it is guided more by logic and less by emotion. Journal – journaling is also a great way to de-stress, as it can help you identify the negative aspects of your life and your feelings around them. It also helps you see the positives aspects, and your feelings around them. Concern yourself with what you can control in life…don’t worry about what you can’t. Many people perceive that concern and worry are the same, however they are vastly different. To be concerned is to be calm, level-headed and relaxed about a situation. It can lead to positive actions. Whereas worrying about a situation involves loss of composure, and irrational thinking - assuming the worst even when there is no indication that the worst will happen Laugh, at least once a day, as it evokes pleasant thoughts. Learn to be gentle with yourself. Don’t berate yourself when things don’t go according to your plan. Rather than saying “I’ve failed” … say “I tried my best”. When life is overwhelming, and you’re feeling uncomfortable, place yourself in a bubble where only pleasant thoughts dwell. Don’t waste time, and energy, wondering about the ‘what ifs’ and ‘maybes’…the past cannot be changed, nor the future foretold. Learn to live in the present, and be present, right now. Learn to be ‘healthy selfish’…don’t involve yourself in other people’s problems. Not your circus…not your monkeys. Rid yourself of the labels that either you or someone else has placed on you. Labels come with huge expectations, and expectations play havoc with feelings of stress. Count your blessings. Before getting out of bed think of five things that you are grateful for Stop being afraid of what can go wrong, start being excited about what can go right; and, Always remember that nothing in life ever stays the same. If you’re feeling stressed remind yourself that one day it will just be a memory. I hope that having this knowledge, and implementing it, will help you to de-stress in non-stressful ways. For as we know, feeling stressed can have a profoundly negative effect not only on your psychological and emotional health, but also on your physical health. I’m sure that most of you who are reading this article have heard the sayings ‘Stress kills’, or ‘Stress is a killer’. Perhaps these should be changed to ‘Feeling stressed kills’, and ‘Feeling stressed is a killer’. Either way, now is the time to take responsibility for your health and your longevity by practicing to de-stress in non-stressful ways.

Yoga Did you know that Yoga was initially a practice only for men? Records of Yoga date back thousands of years, and women were considered already enlightened, therefore didn’t need the practice! Isn’t that interesting! Essentially it was created as a way of releasing physical and mental tension to prepare for sitting in meditation. We now have many different variations of Yoga, and some are more focused on fitness rather than using the practice for its ancient philosophy and selfrealization. However, once you see that it’s not actually about being flexible you will find so much value in adding Yoga to your life. By stepping onto the mat you are saying that you are ready for taking time to discover more about who you are. Living as women in business, wearing the many hats that we do, it is easy to lose any sense of who we are. We try our best, jumping from one responsibility to the next obligation, to the many to do lists just trying to keep up with our busy modern day lives. However, it is more crucial than ever before that we take that time for ourselves, time to connect to who we truly are and honor our desires and needs.Connect back to the power that still resides within us from the women who stood before us. Yoga offers you a chance to find this voice within.
Yoga is a time for Self-reflection.We say “How you do one thing, is how you do everything.” By keeping your awareness in present moment in your practice, you become the observer, you see how you respond and react to thoughts that arise, or struggles that you face in a pose, and this is where you find the answer to what may be challenging you within your life. You observe your thoughts, your emotions and the sensations in your body, enabling you to reflection who you are and what you need to do in order to live your best life. It’s a space for selfacceptance and self-love.It’s also the place we strengthen our intuitive abilities.

Even though we are more than capable of successfully running households, business and family commitments etc, we have forgotten what it means to truly rest, inevitably resulting in over whelm or burn-out. When we sit down in front of the tv, or Facebook with a glass of wine to “relax”, our brain and body are still being stimulated. In order for us to drop into a state of true restoration and repair, we need to be able to sit in stillness, allow our body to drop into deep relaxation and simply enjoy the incredible sensation of life force energy moving through us. This is a beautiful gentle Yoga practice that anyone can do! You don’t even need a mat or any special Yoga clothes. You can do this first thing in the morning, or any time you can squeeze in 20 minutes for yourself. Feel the energy and blocks being shifted in your body and mind. Find the beauty and the peace in your breath. And remember “we don’t practice Yoga to be better at Yoga, we practice Yoga to be better at life.

7 Tools To Make You A Beacon of
Courage
Think of the last time you were really made to sweat, go all tingly, and basically stop dead in your tracks. Now in that next moment did you
A. (metaphorically or physically) turn & run, or B. take a deep breath, stare the challenge in the eyes & pull up your big girl panties? Sometimes we do A, sometimes we do B, & that’s ok to admit. Courage can be hard & taxing, but don’t even think for a second that this is all about YOU. Have you looked in the mirror lately? You’re a fully fledged adult now, therefore a role model to those around you. Every single one of us is looked up to by someone else. For many it is our children that we need to guide and inspire, we are the greatest influence in their young lives. We need to be mindful that they are either seeing you step up or not. Here are seven tips that you can practice regularly to develop a stronger mindset around living a life of courage.
Be Bold : Both professionally & personally, set your sights higher than your “realistic” brain wants & trust that you are capable of achieving it. Each day taking steps towards that which inspires you by surrounding yourself with the right tribe.
Challenge Conventions : Does a situation feel logical in both your head & heart? Pull it apart, have bold discussions about its roots, fully understand what is going on for you. You can rewrite the stories you’ve been telling yourself that limit success, health & happiness. Do not be a victim to circumstance when you can realistically access support.
114
Embrace Discomfort:
Yes being cozy on the couch with a wildly lucrative passive income sounds great, but is it fulfilling you? How is that being courageous & inspiring others? How is that creating a better you? Every time we’re brave enough to “eat that frog” we light up a little more inside & we empower others to embrace it too. It’s scary to speak our truth & push ourselves to that next level, but the rush of accomplishment is worth it.
Risk Mistakes :
Say No :
Stop waiting until you “have enough certifications”, “the market picks up”, “that one last duck gets in the row”.
Everyone feels so busy, overwhelmed & time poor these days that we need to accept it’s ok to say no sometimes. By understanding where your real priorities are at a point in time, you can teach others about your boundaries & how to set their own.
Wake up & just do it! I certainly don’t want my children to miss out on life's opportunities because I’ve taught them to fear making mistakes. If your passion for it makes you tingle then it’s worth taking a risk on. We cannot truly learn if we do not make big & small mistakes.
Do What Is Right :
Acting with integrity & respect takes courage everyday, usually more courage than doing things the easy way. Being a role model to others means that they are learning not only your how but also your why; that is the lasting image of you & your brand. Let It Go : Have courage that the Universe has it’s plan for you & sometimes you will need to let go of matters beyond your control & are not purposeful. Trust that life is unfolding just as it is planned & the bigger picture will appear in time. The power of a courageous woman is like a beacon to her community, it empowers them to be stronger & bolder. Each of us can be that beacon to our peers & younger generations if we consciously practice these tools in all areas of our lives.

What made you want to start this business?
Two
We were both ready for something more, and desperately needed an outlet that didn’t revolve around the kids. We have both been interested in social media and blogging, but neither one of us was ready to commit to it on our own. One day, while we were having a play date, it clicked for both of us that we could do it together! Our strengths compliment each other; one of us is creative and the other has a mind for business, and both of us have experience in said strengths (handmade side hustle and small business owner).

Who is two in Toowoomba?
We, (Danielle Strickland and Jeanette Newman) launched Two In Toowoomba on January 30th 2019, as a community that’s passionate about connection and supporting local businesses. We also wanted to provide a platform for like-minded mums and women, to come together as a source of inspiration, and encouragement, while we share our journey with you. In addition to the deep and meaningful, we want to show you what our beautiful, growing, city of Toowoomba has to offer by bringing a fresh and enthusiastic sense of community to our Garden City.
What are some tips you can share about collaborating with another women?
What do you love about being a Mumpreneur? We appreciate the opportunities that being a Mumpreneur brings us, and the flexibility it provides.
Make sure everything is clear through good communication, so both parties achieve their goals. Be open-minded and willing to negotiatewhat works for you might not work the other person (again communicate). If you are ever unsure about working with someone, a face to face generally helps. Get to know them and again communicate (in person). Stay authentic to yourself and true to yours and your brand’s values. It is okay to say no if it doesn’t align with your beliefs (again communicate this).

Who is your biggest supporter?
First and foremost, our husbands. They’ve been listening, supporting and guiding us through this entire process and have always been there when needed- especially when it comes to having the kids and, as a grounding sourcekeeping us level-headed. Secondly, we must mention our friends, new and old, who have been by our side through the evolution and growth of Two In Toowoomba. There is no way we would be where we are now without the people behind the scenes. A special mention to; Maddieson De Caux (Fleur & Mae Photography and The Loft Toowoomba), Gail Thompson (Thompson Digital Solutions), Ali from B.lush Studios, and the lovely ladies (Amy and Maddy) from Smoke and Mirrors. Without these ladies our launch would not have been as successful.
What’s your favourite Toowoomba Mumpreneur Business?
There’s too many great Mumpreneur businesses to just pick one, so we have picked 2 that we have already crossed paths with; My Essential Alchemy- Amanda is a wealth of knowledge and is so passionate about educating people on living a low-tox life. Tinker Toowoomba- Alex has created the perfect creative hub for all thing’s art workshops and more; you only have to meet her to see her passion come to life.
How do you find balance in Life, Family & Business? When you find it, please let us know! Honestly, you just pick one thing each day that takes precedence and, focus on that. You can do anything, but not everything! The juggle is real, so be kind to yourself and try not to burn out.
What are you most proud of?
Danielle: I am proud of how much we have grown in such a short amount of time, but more importantly I am so proud of how much our friendship has grown because of Two In Toowoomba. Jeanette: I think I’m proud of how much we have pushed ourselves and grown both personally professionally. Together, with the support of family and friends, we have created something wonderful, fun and exciting and our friendship has never been stronger.
What is your advice to a Mum wanting to start a business?
Have a really good business plan, know your financials, and your vision. If anything goes over your head, make sure you ask for professional help. Don’t hesitate to start something because you are scared of failing, and the big one; remember it can take 3 years to see a profit, so get ready to eat two-minute noodles for a little while.
Where do you see your business in 5 years’ time?
We would like to be earning a profit through Two In Toowoomba, and possibly have both branched into other businesses. But, more importantly we want to still have a thriving community, and our friendship remain a priority.

HUSBAND&WIFE BUSINESS & why it didn't work for us My husband, Shawn,is a mechanic by trade and I am a qualified accountant. A year into our relationship Shawn decided to branch out and start his own workshop which I wholeheartedly supported. I continued to work as an accountant full time, he ran his business fulltime and I did the bookwork out of hours. This worked for 3 years, after this time I decided to leave my job. Shawn was excited as he wanted to work together for so long. It lasted 3 months and I had to go back to work. I was always asked why I never worked with Shawn for more than those 3 months. I knew in my heart that this wasn’t what I wanted. This article is,

Finances
As we are all aware, starting a business can result in the owners/shareholders taking a huge hit financially. Loss of wages and the new expenses can be draining on start-up. In our case I earnt more money than the workshop could generate and we weren’t ableto afford our lifestyle without my wage. Not being a mechanic, I couldn’t generate the workflow that Shawn could, resulting in my position being secondary and non-income producing. Going from two wages to effectively one was not viable for us. Had I been a mechanic it would have been a more successful move as we would have both been able to generate income and this would have created more work, therefore,a more positive financial position. It is important to realise what you are capable of financially and stick to that. I had done the calculations and knew that in 3 months we would need to make a decision as to whether or not we would be able to afford our lifestyle or how far we were willing to adapt

Home Vs. Work
Shawn loves cars, working on cars, talking turbos, tunes and servicing. I think cars are for getting to places, not something that requires extras. I had been working as an accountant for 7 years when I left and worked with Shawn,I was so use to being mentally challenged that I became bored.I did up the invoices and the book work but it wasn’t enough to challenge me mentally. It did, however, challenge me more physically. Had the business been something that both of us were passionate about I doubt we would have faced this hurdle. I think this is a key point as to why we failed, joint ventures need to have joint passion to succeed. I struggled to see Shawn as the boss. I didn’t want to take advice from him, let alone have him tell me what to do. He was the expert and I should have prepared, but I found it demeaning. For anyone going into a business with their loved one or family, agree beforehand which party is in control of what and stick to it. I respect Shawn for his knowledge in the field, but I did not want him to pass that on to me. If we had agreed that I would become his apprentice before, then I would have been more accepting of his direction, but we didn’t. I found I was being treated like an apprentice without the desire to be one. This caused resentment and friction which was a toxic place for us to be.
Home is for home. Work is for work. If Shawn had pissed me off at home I had to leave the gripe at home and work as if I wasn’t annoyed with him. Work should also stay at work. Don’t use dinner time to talk about the business, you’ll lose who you are. This point we were actually quite good at. We were able to successfully split home and work to ensure we didn’t impact our home life.In a strange way it was good to be together all day and still have something to talk about at the end of the day,it showed that we were a strong couple.
SELF-CARE
MUMPRENEUR MAGAZINE | JUNE 2019
IT'S TIME TO CHOOSE YOU
Working Mums work twice as hard. WRITTEN BY REBECCA DREDGE, CEO & FOUNDER KIDDO
Self-care, it’s two words we hear more and more of each day and it’s become one of the catch cries of women everywhere, but what does it really mean? Being a successful Mumpreneur is about finding the delicate balance between being the best mother we can and running a business while somehow still managing to find time for ourselves. Easier said than done. Research has shown that being a working Mum is the equivalent of having 2.5 full time jobs, with many mums only finding an average of one hour and seven minutes for themselves each day. ONE HOUR AND SEVEN MINUTES FOR OURSELVES A DAY!
In this time slot, how are we meant to pluck out eyebrows, keep up to date with the news, call our friends, exercise and have some much needed ‘me’ time? “AS MOTHERS WE PUT EVERYONE ELSE’S NEEDS FIRST. IT’S WHAT WE DO, IT'S IN OUR NATURE TO NURTURE.”
Often one of the first things to fall by the wayside when we either become a Mother or take on a new kind of ‘baby’, our businesses, is that crucial time to ourselves. That special ‘me’ time, that we all used to take for granted. Before we were Mumpreneurs, we no doubt all enjoyed those great nights out with that special someone, that break to go to the gym or to spend time with friends. As time ticks over and we give more and more to our families and our businesses, we are often left looking in the mirror, wondering how all that time has passed and when was the last time we did something for ourselves! Self-care has become a mantra in recent times, but at the heart of it is something that we have always known. Without looking after ourselves, we cannot give the best version of ourselves. Without it we can’t give the best of ourselves to those that need it most. Our children, our partners, our businesses NEED the best version of ourselves! Not to mention the most important fact, we really deserve to be kinder to ourselves too.
120 SELF-CARE IS TAKING A STANCE, UNDERSTANDING THAT AS MOTHERS WE MUST TAKE TIME FOR OURSELVES AND HAVING THE COURAGE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SOMETIMES WE CAN’T DO IT ALL.
Self-care is understanding your strengths and working to them, not beating ourselves up trying to do ‘it all’ for our businesses. It’s ok to make some time for yourself, its ok to outsource those few things in your business that drive you bananas and keep you up late at night. It’s okay to ask for help and have some time away from our children too, we all need that me time, that date night time and a chance to go to the gym, movies, yoga or be with our gal pals.
LET SOMEONE ELSE DO THOSE THINGS. GIVE SOME TIME BACK TO YOURSELF, SO YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU DO BEST – BE YOU!
Self-care is remembering to nurture ourselves, and when we do, it feels great because we are reconnecting with ourselves, being the best versions of ourselves and truly shining!

LET THEM play! Before I start, the question to pose is "Who am I behind the rainbow eyebrows?" Apart from working as Cleo the Clown, I am a mother, a wife, a traveller of beautiful places near and far, a hiker, an artist, a gardener and a children's educator. For the last 20 years my career has predominantly been with children of all ages both in Australia and overseas. I feel like children speak to my heart & soul. I feel like I was never meant to grow up and "adult". Playing, being with and educating children makes my heart happy. I love watching their learning journey, the way they explore to learn and learn to explore the world through their eyes. My deep belief is that, whilst children are learning themselves, we have so much to learn from them. Children really know how to have FUN. Not plan to have fun, but actually have fun in the very moment they are in, right there and then. They know how to BE in the moment, how to embrace friendships as well as creatively and imaginatively play alongside and with their peers, of course there are times when it can all turn pear shaped. But why is this? Is it because they actually have too many toys, resources on hand at any point in time? Are we busy finding things to entertain them, before they learn the skill to do that for themselves? Children (and adults) need time and space to find their own fun, to find what they are really interested in, who they really gel with and finding their place in the world. And do you know what? I think children actually can do this so easily and naturally, when given the opportunity, space and time. Over my years of working with children in different settings as well as having my own, I have found ways that we can help children to be imaginative and creative as well as problem solve and learn life ling skills. Here are some ideas that can be used in any early childhood setting or simply at home with your children...
Nature play- this is my GREATEST passion. The great outdoors, no matter what the weather, is our greatest playground and classroom. It can be the simplest of experiences, that can have the most profound effect on anyone. It can be as simple as jumping in puddles after some rain or drawing in the dirt with sticks. It doesn’t require buying any resources, it just comes naturally! Art is also another great passion of mine. Children really show their deepest thoughts and ideas through any form of art, whether it is simply with a paint brush or a lump of playdough. If you keep doing it with them, watch their ideas grow!!! Children aren’t worried about perfection, they more often than not, much prefer the process of art and can avidly tell you a whole story from their colourful strokes on a piece of paper.

If you have a moment to just sit and watch and listen,
you can really discover
who your child is. They will surprise you, make you laugh and bring you to tears all in one moment!! And lastly storytelling and children's literacy. So much learning for everyone, with incredibly clever authors, sending important messages in very creative ways. Sit with your child, and enjoy the moments and story together. Stories will really drive the imagination. And they don’t just have to come from books. Why not make your own stories together? Your child will always remember these times. :)
