Indian Culture relates to the traditions, rituals, and rules that are followed in India, while the European/ western culture most commonly relates to the culture that is followed in America and European countries. This topic is always controversial and seriously there is never successful as to which culture is better. Both are different types of culture and traditions that are followed in different parts of the entire world. Both the cultures are different from each other in the traditional rituals, however, in today’s world both the cultures are coming into a mix. The Indian culture and Lifestyle has been dealing with westernization for a few decades now and the European culture has started developing a taste for the exotic Indian food and yoga. Here, this page brings you a list of top 10 of Key differences in the Indian and the western culture. 10) Movies-
As a part of a limitless discussion on which of the two is better- Bollywood or Hollywood. It is wise to conclude that, while the Hollywood has given us lms like The Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump, Bollywood has similarly upheld great lm by producing lms like Lagaan and Mughal-E-Azam. While Hollywood industry makes our mind boggle with incredible plots and state of the art technology, Bollywood films out to pluck those strings of our minds and hearts. 9) Food –
There’s well-known saying that Indians don’t eat to stay but Indian life to eat. They Just can’t avoid mouth-watering delightful foods which are available in a lot all across the world. There are a lot of delicacies food in the nation and each one has got its own specialty. Indian meals usually made a lot of spices or herbs and oil and we like it that way. Dosa, chole, biryani, etc are some of a huge variety of foods available in the world. Western are health conscious people. Therefore they like to keep it less spicy and with low fats. Meat is the common ingredient of most of their dishes. Fast food culture such as pizza, burgers, nachos tacos, etc. is more preferred there. 8) Family Orientation-
Traditional Indian folks usually prefer joint-families, while modern people are now living in nuclear-like families. Western People choose to step out of their parents’ homes and start living individually post maturity. The concept of nuclear family is beginning to gain popularity in Indian too, with Westernisation changing our conventional ways. Most people believe in nuclear families 7) Music-
The most popular music in Indian culture is Bollywood, pop music religious, classical, Ghazals and folk. Because of the mixing of various cultures from all over the world, the popular music includes rap, hip hop, soft rock, rock etc. 6) Dance-
Although Hip-Hop has taken the world by surprise, one cannot go an Indian marriage, cultural function, and dancing without the traditional Thumkas. There’s Salsa, Crack Dance, Dancing and Tap-Dance from the Western that create one want to dance, whereas there’s Bhangra, Garba, Bollywood, Bharatnatyam, and Kuchipudi gave by Indian that enhances the art of dancing. 5) Work Culture-
The individuals of West are open to the concept of working at any stage to earn their livelihood or enhance it. There are many job that Indians consider below their dignities such as sweeping or being a waiter and those people who do such jobs are considered poor. People here get regard according to their job. Western People do not differentiate on the basis of jobs.They see all jobs as equal and respect everyone similarly.They want to get independent as soon as possible. People start working at an early age doing part-time jobs to support themselves. You will see many people from other countries doing job which the Indians see as inferior 4) Gender Roles –
Women are equal to men in western culture and society. The equal luxury or right has to be fought for and often not granted to the women in the East. Indian studies show has shown that the percentages are majorly towards men taking up such roles. However, Indian is seeing a revolution with respect to females rights and power. Women are no longer expected to work as housewives and are free to pursue other career options. 3) Tolerance-
The West is more tolerant and generous when it comes to accepting an individual’s personal sense of style, sexual alignment or profession. The Indian community, on the opposite, has a strong prejudice for clothing (especially a woman’s out t, in that exposing clothes, are often frowned upon), homosexuality or inter-caste marriages. The West can have its own set of generalizations though, for example, Muslims living in Western countries are regularly on the radar, which is not the case in India. 2) Lifestyle-
Indian culture offers a lot of variety in putting on a costume due to the presence of a lot of different traditions in the country. Tradional Indian men would wear dhoti kurta, kurta payjama, lungi, Sherwani, angarkha, bandhgala, jama, pagri, pheran, khadis etc. Mostly females use sarees, salwar kameez, lehenga choli, churidar, langa, Pattu Pavada, Mekhela Sador etc. There is no traditional dress in Western lifestyle. People use what they like and what they are comfortable with. Men mostly use denim, T-shirts, overcoats gently and for events, they prefer matches where as women use gowns, skirts, shorts, tunics etc.They have no problem if their out ts are
too exposing or not neither does the community. 1) Marriage-
Indian encourages arranged weddings where parents along with the approval of the family members nd the appropriate partner for their children according to their caste and social status. Arranged marriage is still recommended over love marriage in Indian Culture. Moreover, Indian believes in one marriage concept only. Love marriages are more common in western culture. They also believe in several weddings. Love weddings are part of a popular lifestyle. People do not need to take permission from parents to get married. If the couple is in each other and wants to get wedded to then no one can stop them from doing so.
