iss TheGlam Monaco International is becoming more and more prestigious and famous all over the world. Have you already faced plagiarism?

Katia: Yes, indeed, somebody started to organize similar contests in Monaco. We take it easy, because our unique concept and the way we organize the pageant at all stages is out of competition. When you are copied — it’s recognition.

What other problems do you face? I heard about the situation with the Mongolian finalist, who was deprived of the crown … How do you manage to keep everything under control? Yulia: Of course, we select our finalists very carefully. However, sometimes participants who have received the title use it not for good — and this, of

We were also very pleased to find out that Miss TheGlam Monaco International was included into a beautiful online game created in Brazil, where beauty contests are very popular. There are only 3 pageants in the game: Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss TheGlam Monaco International. This is a cool and well-designed app which can be downloaded from the AppStore. course, harms the reputation of the pageant. I can’t call it “a problem”, actually, this is life, and that’s why we write everything in contracts. It’s important to react on time to such situations and prevent them in the future. Is it still possible to apply for participation in Miss TheGlam Monaco International 2019? Yulia: Yes, there is casting until July 1; however, many contracts have already been signed. For example, this year a delegate from China will participate. China is a prosperous country and a strategic partner of France, and we, for our part, do our best to contribute to their state-to-state relations. Chinese

television will come to the final, and it’s nice that this year we will also be supported by the national French television. Katia: We also continue to develop our relations with Japan. Spring issue of TheGlam Luxury Lifestyle Magazine has a Japanese beauty on the cover, and also many sponsors are coming from Japan this year. What is waiting for us at the final in September? Katia: Every year we make some improvements and come up with something new. For example, this year our main theme will be ecology. Our Planet is mired in waste, and we want to make our contribution to the fight against plastic. We will not spill the beans, but I can assure you that the initiative we have invented for our participants will definitely make many people reconsider their daily habits and make their conscious choice in favor of environmental friendliness. And it will definitely be easy and pleasant, because we’ll give them a great solution. Tell us about your new interesting partnerships. Yulia: This year we are partners of Cannes Film Festival and we support many festivities that will be held as part of this large-scale event. We are especially pleased to be invited to be part of the jury of the “Miss Cannes Festival” contest and to support it in media, which we will gladly do. We are always open to interesting partnerships and collaborations, as well as keep looking for interesting characters for our magazine. We especially like to write about new technologies and innovations in various fields. Although there are no restrictions, but of course, we are trying to ensure that each article and even an advertisement are interconnected with the main issue theme. How do you choose characters for TheGlam LLM? Katia: We always have the main theme. For example, in this issue — it’s first ladies and legendary women of all time. Of course, all our characters are opinion leaders, because it’s important for us to publish something motivating. I know that you are developing your own brand of clothing. Lift the veil: how is it called, who will be the designer, what is the basic concept of the brand? Katia: Yes, this brand is called Maison d’Glam and its main concept is pronounced femininity and sexuality, but not through opening parts of the body, but through silhouettes. We want to put emphasis on the beauty of the woman’s figure. And the most important feature of our collection is women’s tuxedos in a modern interpretation (with shorts, skirts) which can be worn every day. Yulia: Creating our own brand of clothing is a logical continuation of our work as bloggers: we interact with 2019

Story Of Success a huge number of brands and see so many concepts that eventually comes an understanding of exactly what we want. And frankly, all prêt-à-porter clothes are very similar. Brands repeat each other in style, only fabric texture may be different. So we decided to create something new as we see it. You are the most famous sisters in Monaco. What are the upsides and downsides of family business, and share the secret of your success? Katia: There are no downsides, only pluses. Of course, we had moments of adaptation, but now all our responsibilities are naturally divided between us — each doing what she does better. Well, the most important secret is this: we have long ago agreed that if one of us says “no”, then we don’t do that at all. Yulia: The secret of our success lies precisely in the fact that we have created a family business, have learned to hear and support each other. Perhaps that is why we became the most famous sisters in Monaco. I don’t know any other family business to be so united and successful, except for the Kardashian family, about which, by the way, there is an article in this issue.

What message do you want to communicate to modern women? Katia: Our most important message is this: no matter where you started or who you were. You can always build yourself and achieve everything you desire, developing as a person and developing yourself in society. Tell us about your latest hobbies. Katia: Actually, everything

we do is both our work and passion. We put our soul into every project and create it as if for ourselves. Now, if I wanted to become a beauty queen, what pageant would it be? If I wanted a beautiful dress — what would it be? With this approach, success is inevitable. And as for a hobby, we are interested in psychology and self-development. There is no limit to perfection. How do you manage everything? Pageant, magazine, PR agency, your clothing brand… What is the secret? Katia: When you put life into your work, you can’t stop halfway. It’s like receiving an internal impulse and you cannot do otherwise. And then the whole way of life, all the circumstances are built around your aspirations. Yulia: We are very dedicated to what we do, and we can easily exchange many plans for urgent matters related to our work. With such an attitude to business and to life in general, everything is going well and right people are catching up. Share your future plans. Yulia: Among global plans is the development of relations with Qatar. Qatar is a very interesting and quickly developing country. We have already managed to communicate with Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and you can read this article in our spring issue. I think this will be the starting point of our collaborations with the royal family. Katia: There are many plans! For now, we will not reveal all the secrets, so follow our projects — we’ll definitely have something to surprise you with.

From the first issue we keep asking ourselves: does it inspire me or not? When reading our stories, people should think: if they could do it, then I can too! 15

And here I am — I Vice Miss of the most prestigious contest in graceful country Monaco! It might sound superstitious but after the contest I remembered words from my horoscope: it said that I will gain success abroad and will be lucky to appear in public in 2018. I’m thankful to have this opportunity and remember that this luck is given by good people. It’s still feels like I’m dreaming.” 16

charming Yukiko Uezono was the first Japanese delegate on TheGlam Monaco International beauty pageant in history: it was her first beauty contest, first visit to Monaco and first great success! The title I Vice Miss TheGlam Monaco International 2018 has changed her life forever. Yukiko confesses that she felt a big responsibility and honor to be the first Japanese delegate and at the beginning she couldn’t even believe that she’d become top two. One of the most memorable moments was when she suddenly realized that she hadn’t heard her name yet and there were only two girls left.

“It seems to me that many Japanese women deny and encage their femininity because of inferiority complex. Acceptance of our femininity by ourselves is important and has much to do with protection of women’s right in society. It’s important for Japanese women to be humble and they are often afraid to express themselves. But if there’s any meaning in life, I think it’s living passionately and beautifully as woman and human. When I was little, I read the book about the life of the female scientist, Marie Curie. She devoted all her life to what she believed in. She lived so passionately with her strong beliefs and it’s wonderful! “

Embracing femininity Yukiko wants to do something helpful for those who want to participate in this beauty pageant someday. There’re so many girls in Japan who don’t have enough courage and confidence, but she hopes every woman will understand how beautiful and talented she is. Yukiko challenges women to express more how they feel. Another woman who inspires Yukiko is the Empress of Japan, Michiko. She is the first commoner’s daughter in history in Japan to join the imperial family. Yukiko is amazed by her attitude, appearance and grace that show how she develops all the good features she has, such as gracefulness, elegance, intelligence, modesty, thoughtfulness, love. For Yukiko she’s an example to follow.

“My father often thinks about ways to help people. We mainly do spine surgery. Minimally invasive spine surgery techniques allow minimal skin incision and it facilitates post-operative recovery. We offer some types of techniques. Even in a major surgical treatment the partial use of minimally invasive spine surgery techniques significantly reduces bleeding during surgery, easing physical burdens for patients. We are glad to help people and ease their pains. Everyone deserves to feel joy and happiness.

Helping people Yukiko has always wanted to help people. This is in her blood. Many of her ancestors, including her grandparents, parents and siblings are doctors. They have family business — a hospital in Tokyo. As a child Yukiko felt that her calling was not only being a doctor and though she learned public health and medical policy and management science, she wants to be more than that. Charity helps her to find more meaning in life.

“I like dance so much because it helps me to understand myself better and unites me with my soul. Techniques aren’t built in a day but love gives us inspiration and power to improve more and better.”

An example to follow

Yukiko wants to develop her greatest qualities. Now she is taking belly dance classes by the famous Japanese teacher who received the most prestigious royal awards. One more way to get inspiration for Yukiko is meditation — she has been practicing it since she was a teenager and cites the words of Yves Saint-Laurent who said “We must never confuse elegance with snobbery.” Meditation is good to have balance inside. Yukiko Uezono is a young, talented and strong woman who knows how to preserve harmony in her soul and wants to share it with other people. What can you find in Yukiko’s purse? “Always together” birthday card from my parents. They gave it to me when I was twenty. It’s my charm. And I always have Guerlain lipsticks and perfume with me. I like to bring organic rose oil as well. It helps me relax. The strongest feature of her character is love of art and perfectionism, which can be her weakest feature at the same time as it’s no good trying to pursue perfection and ideal too much. Things have different perspectives.

MISS DUKASCOPY 2018

ANNA UZOVA

How did you know about the Miss Dukascopy Beauty Pageant? I got to know about the Contest a year ago. I am already participating for the 2nd year in a row. Last year I became Miss October. I had the opportunity to win the main prize but I didn’t win. Therefore, in 2018 I took part again. I became Miss March. And my luck finally changed — I won the title of Miss Dukascopy 2018. What obstacles did you experience when participating in Miss Dukascopy? When I became Miss March, my goal was to win. I thought about it beforehand. So in the summer I began to prepare actively. The hardest part was to encourage my friends to register on Dukascopy Community and vote for me. But I wouldn’t say that it was so difficult. During the online voting many finalists supported me, and when I won they congratulated me. But what really surprised me were the people, who didn’t know me personally, who helped me: they asked their relatives and friend to vote for me. It was like some kind of magic. One of the gifts you received was a European education. What line of education you will choose? It didn’t take me long to decide. I chose acting, because I always wanted to be an actress.

What would you recommend your followers as a person who made a two-year journey in Miss Dukascopy Beauty Contest? The first thing is to be active on the Miss Dukascopy website. You have to spend months to acquire the title of Miss Month. It really takes a very long time. And you must have a very, very strong desire to win and believe that you will. Where are you from? I’m from Perm, Russia. Girls from different countries take part in the Pageant? Yes. There were finalists from Latvia, the Czech Republic, France, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Have you befriended anybody during the Miss Dukascopy Finals? Yes, I became friends with some girls and I still keep in touch with them. They asked me about the shopping in Geneva and my future education. So did finalists who were titled as Miss of the Month go to Geneva to fight for the title of Miss Dukascopy 2018, a European education and a shopping spree worth $200 000? Yes, that’s right. The final round of the contest had the format of a reality show. The top 10 finalists went through different challenges to earn additional points through online voting. And who was able to vote?

30

2019

Every registered user of the Dukascopy Community who installed the Dukascopy Connect 911 app could to vote for the finalists. How many votes did you get? It was approximately 13 500. And the first vice miss got 6 500 votes. What other interesting gifts did you get? I won a ticket to the World Modelling Convention in London, where I will represent the Miss Dukascopy contest together with the First Vice Miss. I’ve been dreaming about visiting London and now I have this opportunity. And, of course luxury shopping for 200 000$. How many days did it take to spend 200 000$? It took me three days. It wasn’t easy. It was very difficult to spend 5–6 hours on fittings at the store. What did you like most of all from gifts? My earrings from the Benoit de Gorski brand for $15,000. What are your plans for the future? How will you use the title “Miss Dukascopy”? Now the most important thing for me is to get the education. So all my plans depend on it. Where are you planning to live and work? Right now I can not say exactly which country it will be, but I dream to go and live in the USA.

Organized and sponsored by a Swiss Bank — Dukascopy Bank SA — Miss Dukascopy is an international project with a 7-year history. The goal of the competition is to motivate and encourage beautiful and talented girls to reach their life goals through dedication and diligence. The annual prize fund is $300,000 which includes: an education at a European university, luxury shopping in Geneva worth $200,000, shooting a music video with a star and cash prizes for active participants. Finalists receive gifts such as branded dresses, shoes, bags, luxurious outerwear, stylish watches, precious jewelry, exquisite underwear, niche fragrances, accommodation in the best hotels of Geneva and visits to fashion events. The Winner of Miss Dukascopy will be granted gifts from all of our fashion partners in December. miss.dukascopy.com Instagram @missdukascopy

Culture of speech and dance, fencing basics, ballet, dramatic art — this is just a few disciplines that I studied in the International Academy of Music of Rimskiy-Korsakov. After my graduation with honors I was a ready-made artiste! All my triumphs I owe to my talent, my Russian character, and professional training.

ELENA MARTEMIANOVA: THE ARTISTE WHO CAN HUG THE WORLD WITH HER VOICE AND SOUL

The woman with a divine voice and open heart, “a dove of the universe” who desires to fly around the world and give hope to people of all ages and nationalities.

E

lena Martemianova is a born artiste. She came to this world to make it a better place. She is a living example of a self-made woman, who was not afraid to take risks and discover her talents without betraying herself. Elena was honored to sing Ave Maria for small children in hospitals, holding their hands and realizing that very soon they will become angels. And she gave peace to their suffering souls. She is strong, loving and very beautiful — a crazy mixture of Russian character and Italian charisma. We had a chance to talk to this talented opera singer. Elena, where are you from? I am proud to be born in Togliatti in Russia and get my wonderful education in St. Petersburg. I know you have many awards, but what are you most proud of? The one I got being a 4th year student is very memorable for me. In 2002 I was awarded the “Muse of St. Petersburg”, the recognition assigned by Russian authorities to those who have distinguished themselves in the field of art — in Smolny Palace. After that I won in many wonderful Italian competitions. Italians allow any artiste to create freely, how he or she feels. Art is limitless and in Italy I really feel it. Russia gave me power, discipline and professional skills, and Italy polished my talent. And now I am the artiste of the world. in his “Fedora” opera about a passionate Russian queen who lived in Italy. That year I also won “Il Cantagiro 2012” competition of contemporary music, previously taken by Al Bano and Adriano Celentano. And one more achievement that changed my life was the special prize for Best Lyrical-Pop Singer of “Il Cantagiro 2012”, where I performed with my “Tosca-rock” opera. I was awarded by Dario Salvatori, a well-known critic of Italian contemporary music. After this triumph I experienced a real breakthrough of my project — modern adaptations of Italian operatic hits for young people.

34

2019

How come you moved to Rome with a single suitcase? Was it a spontaneous decision? In 2003 I participated in Internazional Lyric competition at the Royal Academy Hall in London and met famous soprano jury Nelly Miricioiu, a stunning Romanian-British opera singer. It was her master class when she said that she had been fascinated by my talent and shocked why I hadn’t taken the 1st prize. But the victory was not as important as her wonderful role in my life. She gave me a perfect advice. When I came back to my apartments in St. Petersburg, I realized that I had not 1, but 101 suitcases and there are so many things binding me to my city — all those awards, concert costumes, trifles dear to my heart… But very soon my fate got involved. On February 13, 2004 I came into my apartment and found it empty. I was robbed. I turned to God and said, “ok, I understand… Just leave me my voice!”. A week later, I was invited to the Anechkin Palace of St.Petersburg to sing Traviata for high officials, after which I received an offer to come to Italy. I had nothing to lose. And I did go with one suitcase to start my new life from scratch. How did Rome meet you? Very welcoming! This nation knows how to love, feel, and support. Italians revealed my insights and enriched my soul. At any age in Italy you are a woman at the first place. My mother is a beautiful example, as she has married to an Italian. What do you love most about Italian life? Everything is slow here, with great enjoyment. At the meeting you never get down to business immediately. They prefer to drink a cappuccino first, talk about life, discuss thoughts and feelings they had in the morning, plans for future and their dreams. They know how to enjoy the beauty of the place you live in. Dolce Vita, sweet life — this is about Italy! What difficulties did you encounter on your way? The audition at the Rome Opera House was a big disappointment. The artistic director of the opera turned out to be a family doctor, he had nothing to do with music education. And this “maestro” offered me to take his private lessons if I wanted to sing at his Opera. I got up, thanked him and went my own way. What do you feel when you are on the stage? And do you have your favorite performance? I always feel happy. I flourish, my eyes sparkle, I delight people. I am carried away with the audience, share my energy, excite and enrich them. Every performance is exclusive but one is very memorable. It was the perfor-

An opera singer is not just walking around, like a model, you know. This is a huge physical, mental and emotional work. We burn on the stage! An artiste — is a pure energy that can burn out as well as resurrect. And this energy cannot be betrayed.

mance in Rome at “Josp Festival”, and I was singing poems ‘la Nostra Terra” by Pope John Paul II in front of a million people, including high-officials from Vatican. I was wearing a beautiful white Roberto Cavalli dress and felt magical: people were standing, crying, bringing flowers. It was a concert of paramount importance. And I remember one woman who approached me and asked me to sign a handkerchief for luck for her daughter, who was going to get married… Is it true that you bring luck? Yes, they call me “Porta Fortuna”. Once in Miami a Frenchwoman came to my concert to wade her cares away as she had lost her beloved man. And when I was singing Casta Diva (Maria Callas) she approached me, crying. I hugged her and said that everything would be fine and she would surely meet another love. Believe it or not, but a week later, she came to my concert happy and blooming with a handsome American. At that very moment I realized that people really need me. You have amazing projects! Tell us more about them! In 2012 after the winning at Lyrics Pop I understood that opera music is very far from modern youngsters. I wanted to be their guide

to the world of opera. I started my unique “Lyrics Pop” project with adaptations of Italian operatic hits, so that the youth would listen to them and even dance. I wanted to be needed not only in the opera theater, but here and now. With my unique opera pieces I open fashion shows in Italy, Miss Universe pageants, sing with rappers, models, perform on TV Italy (Rai 1, Mediaset) and Russian TV.There is a wonderful edition of “Neputiovye Zametki” program with me hosted by D.Krylov. What are your future plans? I want to fulfill this project as my personal show with dancers, fireworks, waterfalls and pyramids. We will perform together with young singers and have a world tour together. It will be astounding and I am sure that my dream will soon come true. Also, I am flying to Africa with the Italian delegation and will sing my “Carmen Dance” in front of the President of Senegal. I am grateful to Italy, which appreciates me as an artiste and a woman. Now I can hug the whole world. You are a spectacular woman! How do you relax after performances? My favorite hobbies are meditation, yoga, swimming and horse riding. Horses are very graceful and kind animals, who give me their wonderful energy. I also like sports cars racing. I am fond of this crazy feeling when you must control this great force. I love to take risks! What is the beauty for a modern girl? Any woman should have something she loves doing. In this case our eyes sparkle, the gait is fleeting; we start to purr like a cat. For example I am an artiste and there is always music inside me. When a girl is passionate about something, she is confident and beautiful.

“I have always loved everything connected to face care, beauty and anti aging. And one day my friend in Paris suggested that I could attend special courses in cosmetology and become a beautician. At that period of time I didn’t know the language and it seemed impossible. But she kept convincing me and in the long run I promised to myself that if I do it, I will become the best beautician ever! And I did.”

Liquid peeling technology is a new type of non-invasive, soothing and painless skin care that gives amazing results. Compressed oxygen in the form of micro-drops gently and painlessly cleanses and peels the skin, moisturizes it, delivers vitamins and nutrients directly into the skin without damaging it. Liquid peels help solve various skin problems and are suitable for almost all skin types and areas. Such peelings can be performed any time of the year. Microneedling or Collagen induction therapy is a cosmetic procedure aimed at improving the condition of the skin. It includes multiple injections with thin needles into the upper layers of the epidermis, which enables medicines to penetrate more actively into skin.

BENEFITS OF OXYGEN PEELING ARE SPECTACULAR. IT: • noticeably improves the complexion; • reduces redness and irritation of the skin; • kills bacteria that cause acne and blemishes; • soothes skin, relieves irritation after other procedures: microdermabrasion, laser or acid peels; • enhances synthesis of collagen and elastane; • increases content of oxygen and moisture in skin; • increases softness and smoothness of the skin; • removes wrinkles, including facial wrinkles; • can deliver nutrients deeper into the skin; • moisturizes the skin.

We asked her to tell us more about the most popular procedures: Oxygen facial peeling, Jeet peel and microneedling. OXYGEN FACIAL PEELING Oxygen peelings and masks may be performed both for men and women. They strengthen skin, reduce wrinkles, and improve blood circulation, which makes the complexion better. The oxygen content in our tissues naturally decreases with age and by increasing it, we can slow down the aging process. Moreover, oxygen kills bacteria, so it can be useful for treating certain skin diseases, such as acne.

Haute Couture You graduated with a Degree in Engineering and Architecture from the American University of Beirut and got an MBA from the Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Did it help you in your work as a designer? My education is a crucial aspect of my success as a designer. It broadened my view and shaped my sense of space. From a business point of view, it also helped me in managing a successful enterprise, because running your own fashion house requires a broad array of skills. Could you describe a woman who wears Gaby Charbachy? It’s a confident woman, who enjoys pushing her limits and stepping out of the traditional boundaries. Could you characterize your dresses in 3 words? Feminine, edgy, present. When you provide a custom-made service, do you work with the client personally or you have a team of designers? It depends on the location, because the brand is presented worldwide. I do have a team of designers working with the clientele. But sometimes, I do this personally — in our showroom in Lebanon or when I travel for various events around the world. What celebrities and trendsetters choose your dresses? Many local and international celebrities wear my dresses. I collaborate with artists in music videos and on the red carpet, and had appearances in Oscars, Cannes Film Festival, Grammy Award, etc. Most recently, I was honored to

attend the Butterfly Ball Monaco, where I dressed many trendsetters including the host of the event, Modesta Vzesniauskaite. Tell us more about your new collection. I’ve recently presented the Spring Summer 2019 collection during the PAP Fashion Week in Paris. The collection’s story is manifested by a strong silhouette definition. Solid materials like crepe, satin, lace and three-dimensional embroidery are mixed with structural volumetric details of impalpable fabrics such as tulle, organza and gazar. The color palette is vividly defined by contrasting strong colors to their respective pastel families. Where do you find inspiration for your designs? Just living my life. I try to enrich my experience through art, travel, literature and human contact. This inspires me to find beauty in everything and adapt it in my designs. Where can we purchase your dresses? The Brand is available in about 30 countries worldwide, in more that 75 points of sale. Spanning from North to South America, Western and Europe, the Middle East and China. It is also sold on-

line through various portals and directly through our website http://flatfashion.com What are your plans for future? I am planning to launch a ready to wear line sometime in the future. This project is still under consideration, but I am very excited about it. The line will be casual chic, addressed to a wider audience. What is the iconic figure you would like to wear your brand? That is tough question. So I will answer it with my heart, and not with my mind. I would like Charlize Therone to wear one of my dresses, because I like her as a person and I admire her work.

ELEANOR

ROOSEVELT Born: October 11, 1884 in New York. Nickname: “First Lady of the World”. Best known for: her outspoken views on human rights that were ahead of their time.

A

lthough she grew up in a wealthy family, she had a tough childhood. She was orphaned at a very young age and left in the care of her grandmother. On her wedding day, then-president Teddy Roosevelt, her uncle, walked her down the aisle. When Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, her husband Franklin Roosevelt had to enter World War II. Eleanor didn’t stay at home in safety. She went to work for the Red Cross. She visited the sick and the wounded and let the troops know how much they were appreciated. When Franklin died of a stroke, Eleanor wanted to continue their work. For 7 years she represented the United States at the United Nations (UN), which was created in large part by her husband. While a member, she helped to write the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which described that people throughout the world should be treated fairly and had certain rights that no government should be able to take away. She also dedicated a lot of effort to helping women. Female journalists had traditionally been excluded from serious media events at that time. Eleanor hosted a series of ladies-only press conferences, which pressured papers into hiring more women reporters.

At 15 Perón left home to become a successful radio actress in Buenos Aires. When in January 1944 an earthquake in San Juan killed 10,000 people, the military colonel Juan Perón organized a fundraiser to help the victims of the earthquake. their age difference — she was in her mid-twenties, and he was in his late forties — they got married in 1945. As First Lady she devoted a huge amount of time to meeting with poor Argentinians, visited hospitals and orphanages, and founded the Female Perónist Party, a political party comprised of female voters. In July 1948, Perón established the María Eva Duarte Social Help Foundation to fight poverty in Argentina. Perón believed that all women should have the right to vote, so she gave radio addresses, wrote articles, and made speeches at rallies supporting women’s suffrage.

From 1946 to 1952, Eva Perón was the wife of Argentine President Juan Perón and the First Lady of Argentina. She became a massively popular celebrity and icon to Argentinians, as well as a source of great controversy.

JACQUELINE

KENNEDY ONASSIS Born: July 28, 1929 in New York. Nickname: Jackie O. Best known for: her iconic looks which remain a pivotal inspiration for fashion trends to this day.

B

eing a journalist she met t h e n - C o n g re s s man John F. Kennedy at a dinner party in Washington. Jackie took her title seriously and became one of the most iconic first ladies of all time simply for how much she changed what it meant to be a first lady. Shortly after Kennedy became a president of United States in 1961, she transformed the presidential mansion into a more elegant space adorned with antiques and artifacts once owned by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Her personal responsibility as White House interior decorator is still followed by First Ladies of the 21st century. One thing that greatly excited Jackie O except for art was education. She even opened a school inside of the White House. After originally turning the entire third floor of the building into a nursery for her children, she made it into a kindergarten classroom.

50

On November 22, 1963, Jacqueline Kennedy was riding with the President in an open-air motorcade in Dallas, Texas, when he was assassinated. Following his funeral, she and her children largely withdrew from public view. In 1968, she married Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Following Aristotle Onassis’s death in 1975, she had a career as a publishing editor in New York City.

Her toughness and drive, twinned with charm and a megawatt smile, played a fundamental part in propelling Macron to victory. She drilled and coached him before campaign speeches, re-assuming her early role as his drama teacher, carefully weighing and testing every phrase, and usually having the final say.

MERKEL Born: July 17, 1954 in Hamburg. Nickname: “The Iron Chancellor”. Best known for: transforming German politics since being voted into office in 2005. Her achievements at home and abroad have seen her top Forbes’ most powerful women list eight times.

S

he is Germany’s first female political leader. This has in turn resulted in new policy direction on everything from energy reform to family and women’s rights. She is a much respected politician all over the world and is often called “the Leader of Europe”. Merkel was never hungry for the trappings of power: she lives modestly and doesn’t look down on her colleagues in Europe, nor fellow citizens in Germany. And yet—and in part because of those qualities—she’s emerged as the one figure uniquely suited to deal with two of the biggest crises facing the West today.

58

SPORT FOR FACE LIFTING GYM® by Natalia Mamciur Yulia Berisset: Practicing LIFTING GYM® for more than six months already, I have experienced how effective this method is and how much it does not look like all the other techniques called facial gymnastics. Natalia Mamciur is a founder of the LIFTING GYM® method. The star of Moulin Rouge de Paris and a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow in the past, Natalia is by far the best facial muscle trainer. Natalia, how was your ingenious method born and what distinguishes your method from others? Natalia Mamciur: LIFTING GYM® by Natalia Mamciur was born behind the scenes of the most famous world theaters. Under the terms of the contract, actors of the theater and ballet are not allowed to get any kind of beauty injections, and, well, all the greatest stars play their roles not only with bodies but also faces and gazes of thousands are anchored on them! Therefore, all my motivation and talent were aimed at the invention of a completely new natural method of injection-free face rejuvenation. It is well known that already in Belle Epoch in Paris, the Moulin Rouge star, famous Mistenguett, practiced exercises for her face muscles and that is why in her fifty she looked like thirty. Yulia: Is it about sport for the face? Muscular activity? Natalia: Yes, we have 57 mus-

cles on our face, 15 of which are muscles of expression. They form wrinkles and folds, as well as ugly facial expressions. Aesthetic medicine does not pay attention to the muscular system of our face and almost all procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, are performed with the skin or, even worse, by stitching living tissues with threads. But muscle fibers are physiological threads that relax with age, and which can be trained and toned — the same as with our body. Skin is only a fabric that covers our face like clothes on the body. With the help of well-composed LIFTING GYM® techniques, just like in bodybuilding, a facial definition is created by muscle mass and not fillers: lips, nasolabial folds, cheeks and neck are being filled. The skin only covers the beautiful relief created by smart exercises. To train muscles properly is a true art. Spontaneous or poorly compiled techniques that overwhelm the Internet create new facial wrinkles, stretch the skin and create unpretty expressions that cannot be corrected neither with injections, nor by surgical intervention. Yulia: Natalia, tell us more about your activity as a coach, I know that you regularly give individual lessons to famous personalities in Monaco and throughout Europe. Natalia: In coaching an experienced coach and a motivated student work together. It requires energy and input from both. As with any sport — results are in accordance with effort!

72

2019

I have extensive experience with both women and men, young and elderly clients, as well as with those having pathologies such as asymmetry of any origin and even partial paralysis of the face. The results are carefully monitored by BEFORE and AFTER photos, as well as dermoscopy of the skin which shows how mimic wrinkles were smoothed, pores were narrowed and due to an improvement in tissue metabolism, the pigment spots were lightened, and also how a noticeable radiance of the face appeared. On the website www.liftinggym.com you can read a detailed comment of Dr. Giulio Ferranti — a famous Italian dermatologist, who conducted a dermosco-

py “Before and After” 15 lessons of one of my students who is 67. Individual lessons under the personal program last from an hour to one and a half, and group lessons are always one and a half hours twice a week. Yulia, I also would like to ask you a question. You’re so young and beautiful, why did you decide to take my lessons? Unlike you, at your age, women usually come to me with serious and noticeable problems. Yulia: Today, all over the world there is a tendency towards natural methods of rejuvenation, in particular to the practice of facial gymnastics. For example, Meghan Markle considers face fitness a secret of her beauty and openly declares it in her interviews. Sport for face is also regularly practiced by Jennifer Aniston, Kate Winslet, Sharon Stone, Cindy Crawford, Jodie Foster and many others. It has become a good style. The actress Julia Roberts has even published a big article about it. Being a beauty blogger and testing various innovations in the beauty industry, I decided to join this fashion trend, but the results from LIFTING GYM® exceeded all my expectations! Now I regularly do

exercises, especially before shootings and important events. I always manage to look brilliant and I am often asked what gives such a result. I gave up many beauty treatments and replaced some creams of famous brands with LIFTING GYM® cosmetic products (more details on liftinggym.com), which I like more. As a result, I got rid of the swelling of my face even after the festivities, which I attend a lot because of my work. Goodbye, Karl LAGERFELD! Lagerfeld, died in February 2019, worked for the most iconic fashion houses in the world and literally resurrected the House of Chanel, making it flourish to this day. Early years

Karl Otto Lagerfeldt was born in Hamburg, Germany. His father, Otto Ludwig Lagerfeldt, owned a company exporting evaporated milk and mother Elizabeth worked as a lingerie salesperson, perhaps inspiring her son’s interest in ladies’ fashion. In 1952 Lagerfeld dropped his “t”, moved to Paris and won first prize for his coat design.

In 1954 he was hired by Pierre Balmain. Three years later he became artistic director of Jean Patou’s fashion house. He left Paris in 1964 to study art history in Italy. Lagerfeld has always been open to unexpected solutions, such as technology in fashion. He wanted to embrace today’s digital culture and succeeded in it. Lagerfeld understood that new technologies are needed to reshape the fashion industry to match the new market demands. And in 2015 at Chanel’s event for Paris Fashion Week he presented a new line of 3D printed dresses — one piece, no sewing.

Mohamed has also had many celebrity clients over the years, includi“The women who buy couture today are not the bourgeoisies of the past. Today’s buyers are young, modern women. What keeps couture alive, is its move with the times. If it stays like the sleeping beauty in the woods or the ivory tower, you’ll forget it.”ng Michael Jackson, who was living in an estate built by Mohamed his last years.

A man of many talents: quick facts

• He photographed many of Chanel’s fashion advertisements, and his works were published in British Vogue and Interview. • His illustrations were used for an edition of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes (1992) and costumes he created were used for La Scala in Milan, the Florence opera house, and the Monte Carlo Ballet. • His publications include The Karl Lagerfeld Diet (2004; cowritten with his physician, Jean-Claude Houdret), a manual telling of his struggle with weight loss. • In 2010 he collaborated with Steidl publishing house to launch the L.S.D. imprint (Lagerfeld. Steidl. Druckerei. Verlag), which published literature, biographies, and books on fashion, art, and music, most of which were translated from French and English into German. • In 2015 Lagerfeld won the British Fashion Award for Outstanding Achievement, and he was the subject of a retrospective exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: Modemethode,” at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, Germany. • He was the cleverest man in fashion industry, with a deep love of culture and respect for learning. His apartment close to the Boulevard Saint-Germain houses a library of 300,000 volumes. • In addition to speaking French, English, German and Italian, Lagerfeld spoke fluent emoji: he even created and released 30 emojis. The emojis included a silhouette of the famous designer, studded-gloved hands making a “heart” shape, and smiling and frowning faces of his famous cat, Choupette.

A celebrity cat

Lagerfeld was publically devoted to his feline friend. She is credited as his inspiration for a cornflower blue Couture collection in Spring 2012. Choupette appeared in a ten-page spread in V Magazine with French supermodel Leticia Casta, and in 2014 was the subject of the photo book, Choupette. She even has her own fan-run Instagram account, @choupettesdiary, with more than 302K followers. Lagerfeld had previously stated that in case of his death, Choupette would be among the heirs to his reported £150m fortune.

TOP 7 runway shows that impressed the fashion world Fendi Show Fall/Winter 2007 Great Wall of China The year-long preparation, delays from getting a permit to hold the show, the production worth over $10M — nothing stopped Lagerfeld from organizing this legendary runway show, held during the sunset at the Juyongguan Pass of the Great Wall of China. Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 Snow show Real-life Scandinavian icebergs flourished the Grand Palais in Paris for the show featuring faux fur coats, jumpsuits, chunky knitted sweaters, and shaggy snowboots fitting for the show’s set. Chanel Spring/Summer 2012. What The Water Gave Me Lagerfeld took us under the sea, with gigantic corals, seashell and transparent bubbles. The models walked down the CC bed with wet buns embellished with mermaid-like pearls around it. The show ended with Florence + The Machine’s vocalist Florence Welch emerging from a giant seashell. Chanel Spring/Summer 2013.The wind and the sun are free The runway was made out of solar panels with terrific wind turbines in the middle — it was a good sweep of the wind to tell the viewers about renewable energy. Chanel Fall/Winter 2014. The world is a supermarket. Shelves stacked with all the basics of what any supermarket would contain -fresh produce, toiletries, canned and processed goods, not to mention half-empty shopping baskets — models walked the runway in a variety of silhouettes. Chanel Spring/Summer 2015 social awakening Lagerfeld organized an enormous feminist march for women’s rights. The march ended with Cara Delevingne and Gisele Bündchen leading the women, complete with megaphones on their hands. Placards like “History is Her Story”, “Ladies First”, and “Women’s Rights Are More Than Alright” were held by models as they take the final walk with Lagerfeld himself. Chanel Fall/Winter 2017 Flying to the moon Lagerfeld takes “flying out” to a whole new level. The collection stayed true to the concept with silver glittery moon boots and, yes, space blankets. Together with his godson Hudson Kroenig, Lagerfeld pushed the blast off button signaling the launch of the Chanel-branded rocket with Elton John’s Rocketman on the background. Lagerfeld was a man of a genius: he transformed high fashion into blockbuster entertainment. Moreover, he constructed everything in his own universe and made us citizens of it.

P

rincess Diana was beloved by millions of people for more than her royal status and sophisticated fashion sense: she was a compassionate philanthropist set on making a difference. Even now, two decades after her death, Diana’s legacy lives on through her sons. Diana was committed to William and Harry having a normal childhood. William was the first heir to the throne to attend public school and the boys would be taken to get hamburgers at McDonald’s, rode the tube and the bus. Diana also took them to hospitals and homeless shelters to show how lucky they were, and how they could help. Now, both William and Harry continue their Diana’s humanitarian legacy and like their mother, refuse to keep quiet about personal issues affecting them and many others, such as mental health. Having the royal

family speak out about such issues is a huge step forward in the battle to remove the stigma around mental health. Teaming up to create Heads Together, the Royal Foundation’s mental health campaign, both William and Harry have spoke candidly about their own battles, e. g. Harry spoke of nearly suffering a mental breakdown after his mother’s death and seeking professional help. Unlike the other royals,

“Nothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. It is a goal and an essential part of my life, a kind of destiny.” Diana wasn’t afraid of scandal and often spoke openly about “shameful” problems. Thanks to this great woman, awareness and understanding of bulimia grew, and many sufferers came forward to seek help for a stigmatized disease previously shrouded in shame and guilt. Diana also sparked a major international row after saying that the sale of all landmines should be stopped. She played a major role in outlawing the weapons and visited numerous communities and

people who had been affected and injured by the mines. In regards to AIDS, Diana openly visited patients and physically interacted with them. Many people had refused to hug or touch AIDS patients before because they thought that they were contagious. Diana helped clear up this misconception by visiting and hugging them herself. Prince Harry has since created his own charity in Africa to help those suffering from AIDS called “Sentebale.” She was also known to talk with Londoners living on the street, and she advocated for the homeless. As of 2005, Prince William took over his mother’s patronage duties at Centrepoint and continues to highlight the plight of the homeless by spending a night on the street, dropping by homeless shelters and answering calls on homeless helplines. Diana’s unwavering compassion for people in need helped her win not just the hearts of a nation, but global recognition as a symbol of warmth. She spoke to people in a way the royal family never had before.

the most epic and expensive series are back

T

he HBO show “Game of Thrones” is one of the most popular on television. Over 30 million viewers watched the season seven premiere in the U.S. alone and the show earned 22 nominations for the 2018 Emmy awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. It’s an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, based on George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, which takes place in one of the deepest, richest fictional worlds ever built. The series chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the realm’s noble families for the Iron Throne, while other families fight for independence from it. It opens with additional threats in the icy North and Essos in the east. The series premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and will conclude with its eighth season, which will premiere on April 14, 2019.

Game of Thrones might seem like pure fantasy, but it’s based on some real-world events. The Stark and Lannister feud is similar to the historical War of the Roses, a famous conflict between two very real noble families, the Yorks and the Lancasters. Certain characters like Joffrey, Sansa, Cersei, and Robb have similar characteristics to children from both of these families and share similar stories. 82

2019

Of course, all of those CGI dragons and epic battle scenes don’t come cheap. The network spent $100 million for 10 episodes in the seventh season, which averages out to $10 million for each one. According to TorrentFreak, Game of Thrones was also the most pirated show for six consecutive years — from 2012 to 2017. After the final episode fades to black, fans surely will want more Game of Thrones action. There’s good news and bad news on that front. The good news is that HBO is planning some Game of Thrones prequels. That bad news is it could be a year or more after the season eight finale before we actually see them.

The show is filmed in Belfast and elsewhere in Northern Ireland, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, Scotland, Spain, and the United States.

Season eight will be even more expensive: a whopping $15 million each series, which makes it the most expensive TV show ever produced.

Eternal Values

Notre-Dame is home to a priceless treasure among which are the Holy Crown worn by the Christ, a piece of the Cross, and a nail. 98

A

pril 15, 2019 was a very sad day for France and the whole world. The spire and the oak room collapsed after a spectacular fire that destroyed a large part of Notre Dame. This catastrophic fire burned for several hours and it took more than 400 firemen to contain the blaze. However, Notre Dame is not dead and a plan to renovate the French symbol has already been announced by the French government. French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking in a televised address to the nation, said he wants the Notre Dame Cathedral to be rebuilt in five years.

History Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991,

Notre-Dame is the most visited monument of Europe. It was built over the course of 200 years — construction began in 1163 during the reign of King Louis VII, and the first stone is said to have been laid in the presence of Pope Alexander III. In fact this masterpiece of Gothic medieval architecture suffered damage and deterioration through the centuries. It entered the 19th century in a much degraded state, being used as a storage place instead of a religious one. In 1804, however, Napoleon invited Pope Pius VII to come to Paris to crown him emperor in Notre Dame. At the last minute, however, he seized the crown from

the pope’s hands and crowned himself and Josephine as emperor and empress of France, propelling the cathedral back onto the front pages. Over the course of its history Notre-Dame has also hosted dozens of royal coronations, weddings and requiem masses, including the crowning of Henry VI in 1431 and the wedding of Mary, Queen of Scots to her first husband Francis, the Dauphin of France, in 1558.

The Bell called Emmanuel has tolled at most major events in the history of France, including the coronation of kings, papal visits and to mark the end of two world wars. It was also rung to mark the destruction of the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center on 11 September 2001.

Bells Like often with churches, the bells of Notre-Dame

bear names. In Notre-Dame, they are called Marie, Emmanuel, Gabriel, Anne-Geneviève, Denis, Marcel, Etienne, Benoît-Joseph, Maurice, and Jean-Marie, for the main ones. The bells we now hear are no longer the ones installed upon completion of the Cathedral, six-hundred years ago. After the French Revolution, in 1791, most bells were taken down from Notre-Dame and melted to make cannon balls. New bells were only installed during the mid-19th century. In 1831, the writer Victor Hugo published his novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It tells the tale of Quasimodo, the deformed bell ringer of the cathedral, who becomes obsessed with the beautiful Esmeralda. And beyond the star-crossed love, Notre-Dame is the star of the show. Hugo wrote two chapters just describing it. Interestingly, Hugo foresaw the fire in the Cathedral. He wrote: “It is difficult not to sigh, not to wax indignant, before the numberless degradations and mutilations which time and men have both caused the venerable monument to suffer.” Maybe he knew something?

Many years ago I got interested in health, longevity and rejuvenation and started to investigate these questions. I have graduated from Krasnoyarsk State Medical University named after Prof. V. F. Voino-Yasenetski with a degree of family doctor and therapist. My second education I got at Vasilyeva Academy of Applied Kinesiology. What is kinesiology? It’s an American technique, a leading discipline for treatment of spine, injuries of head and internal organs. It exists for more than 100 years and is widespread in Canada, the USA, Australia and some countries of Europe. Many medical centers and academies around the world are devoted to kinesiology.

How does it work? Our organism is treated as a single whole. Let me explain: every muscle of our body is tied to some internal organ. And every vertebra is tied to another one. It’s impossible to treat neck, for instance, without treating loins and vice versa. If we

Everything in the body is interrelated and kinesiology looks at the body as a whole, whereas other disciplines act only symptomatically and give temporary results. It is the most long-term correction method in the world. forget about other systems while curing spine the problem is sure to come back, and this usually happens with traditional approaches in medicine. Kinesiology also takes into account psychosomatics and intoxication. So, basically, it can treat all the problems arising in human body. Can problems with the spine affect other organs and systems? Yes. Our spine is like a tree trunk, from which go branches — vessels and nerves — to internal organs. And in case

if vertebrae are displaced or arranged incorrectly, the work of the whole organism is disturbed and only kinesiology is able to restore body’s functions effectively and for long.

There are four specialists in our team — a kinesiologist, a visceral manipulation therapist who performs massage of internal organs, a nutritionist, and a fitness trainer. We work together and can cure the problem without even touching it.

Why is correct posture so important for a woman? The question is not only in a beautiful posture or gait, but also in woman’s reproductive health. In the majority of cases changes in spine are accompanied by changes in the pelvic bones, generative organs and hormone system. Sometimes women cannot get pregnant because of spinal problems and manual therapy, massages do not give a desirable effect… Kinesiology can deal with it. Tell us more about your method. My method is kinesiology, but I was able to replace my hands with certain objects or a partner. I invented a special online system, due to which we get better results than after face-to-face attendance. This technique can not harm, because it does not touch your nerves, vessels, vertebrae or lumps with protrusions. We are able to treat even such major conditions as 4 stage scoliosis, asymmetry of face, different length of legs, uneven knee joints, etc. Thanks to our online treatment, we have cured more than 1000 people already. There are many interesting stories. For example, there was a girl with 4 stage scoliosis, a world champion in hip hop. She had been training a lot, falling, performing all that flips and jump movements and her spine began to change dramatically. Thanks to our method in just a month and a half we achieved amazing results! Of course, she is a young girl and the younger a person is, the faster spine can be corrected, but I assure you that even 80 years olds can sufficiently relieve their condition with our help. As a child I also had scoliosis so I am a living example of a person who managed to get through this terrible condition. I changed my life for better: I am an athlete, I am working every day to build the body of my dream, with beautiful shapes and healthy spine, and you can do it too! What is beauty for a modern woman?

Beautiful means healthy. You know, no matter how much Botox or what modern technologies we use, they all give only a temporary result. And true beauty begins with the health of our internal organs. I wish modern girls didn’t forget about that.

maining sex symbol until today was shy, humble, and simple. In her everyday life, she lived in a small 3-bedroom house and wore simple clothes. She was an incredibly kind woman and was loyal to her friends. She contributed to many charities, giving much of her savings to numerous orphanages and children’s causes. Also, she was an early civil rights supporter. At the same time she was one of the most ambitious and hard working models — only in the spring of 1946, the young Norma Jeane (her real name) appeared on the covers of 33 magazines after only

half a year in the modeling industry. Bring a talented model and actress, Marilyn Monroe also performed soundtracks for the series of films. She easily won the hearts of music lovers with her beautiful voice and appearance. “I Wanna Be Loved by You” was written for the musical Good Boy in 1928. One of the most famous performances of this song by Marilyn Monroe was featured in the movie Some Like it Hot (1959), for the role in which she got Golden Globe. The Recording Industry Association of America included this song to the Songs of the Century list.

She was also a businesswoman — in January 1955, Marilyn founded a private corporation Marilyn Monroe Productions. She invested almost all her savings in this company and became the head of it.

Living Legend It’s Marilyn Monroe that we can attribute to today’s most popular fashion and beauty trends, such as bodycons and bold lipsticks. From her one-piece swimsuits to her baseball uniform that included heels, Monroe was never afraid to hold her personal taste back, despite what was accepted as the societal norms. It’s her that we can thank for body positivity, celebrating our sexual attractiveness without being shamed for it, embracing our curves instead being bogged down by them. She was much more than just a sex symbol and we owe it to her to be more courageous in our own wardrobe choices.

She wore designer labels before they became household names, carrying Louis Vuitton bags and debuting creations from Emilio Pucci and Lanvin.
