Mission: to focus on ecological issues that affect people worldwide: clean energy, sustainable fishing, restoring ecosystems, and pollution, namely by fueling a growing trend toward sustainability as a smart business strategy.
EDF is known for its works in the area of global warming, ecosystem restoration and oceans. In addition to working with fishing communities to offer transitional and financial support, the organization’s goals include the curbing of overfishing and also begin sustainable fishing models in several countries. Today, the organization has two million members and a staff of 700 scientists, policy experts, economists, and professionals working worldwide with the headquarters in New York City.
It’s well known for cooperation with the world's biggest retailer Walmart which has helped influence 900 suppliers, affecting 125,000 retail products. EDF helped Walmart create in 2013 their first-of-its-kind chemicals policy. The policy led to the phasing-out of eight chemicals of concern in more than 10,000 products sold by Walmart and led to similar pledges from major manufacturers, such as Johnson & Johnson and Colgate- P almolive. In 2017, Walmart expanded this policy to become the first retailer to set a goal to reduce the chemicals of concern in its supply chain within a certain period of time. Meanwhile, multiple influential companies, including Campbell's and Coca- C ola, committed to using fertilizers more efficiently, seeing Walmart's success with EDF.
