TRAVEL

AND MAKE

A somewhat hidden gem of Kentucky, Red River Gorge is popular for its rock climbing, hiking, ziplining, kayaking, and, of course, camping. The natural beauty of the Gorge is breathtaking, offering views of rivers and waterfalls, canyons, caverns, and over 150 naturally-formed sandstone bridges throughout. Red River Gorge is the perfect place for a short day-trip where you can hike up to Natural Bridge, experience the mountain scenery via the skylift, or get a bird’s eye view of the park on an exhilarating zip line tour.

However you decide to explore Red River Gorge, you’re sure to experience some of Mother Nature’s greatest work. With over 600 miles of trails, the park has something to offer for everyone! Natural Arch and Barren Fork Trails are two of the park’s most accessible trails, though they are unpaved. Red River Gorge is also pet-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend hiking with you as long as they are on a leash. The Gorge is open all year long, but we recommend going in the fall to enjoy the most beautiful foliage.May and June are also great months to enjoy birding and hiking, though you may end up feeling a little sticky with the high humidity. The Gorge may be great for day trips, but it’s also the ideal place to camp with friends or family. While you could pitch a tent and call it a night, StayOver is a full service cabin rental company offering cottages, camping sites, and cabins for parties of one to parties of plenty. With a team of specialists dedicated to fi nding you the perfect home for your stay, ‘roughing it’ won’t even be in your vocabulary.

Though Big Boulder can accommodate up to 10 people, the enticing price point and cozy cabin atmosphere is perfect for smaller groups or couples as well. Though not in Red River Gorge, this property is covered with open trails, large rocks, tall trees, creeks, and waterfalls. It is also dogfriendly as long as your precious pooch stays on a leash.
