Letter writing has long been a simple action with its roots in activism. We grounded our activism in our own experiences of privilege or lack thereof to create open letters inspired by the prompt, “What is unfair about our world today?” Each student was encouraged to write connected to issues they cared deeply about to craft persuasive arguments that could be both expressive and accessible. Supported by their research project in Social Studies, many students opted to write personal appeals related to human rights violations. The project was designed to call upon our collective social currency to effect our community, and copies of the letters are on view online to inspire the conversation of social change between youth and policy makers.
