EAMBIG WE ARE TOPDECK We do epic North American road trips, Big Game safaris, Eurotrips, pyramid expeditions, surf camps and other awesomeness around the world for travellers between 18-39. We realise that everyone’s different, which is why all our trips include heaps of free time to play and explore. It’s your trip, your way. Your trip includes all the must-see, must-do activities and top-notch local fare to recharge those batteries between stops, which means you can spend your money where it matters and we’ll take care of the rest. In Africa, you will hit the road in purpose-built safari trucks, stay where the action is and hang out with other young explorers bent on seeing the world. And that’s just how we got started. We had a group of mates, some wheels and enough wanderlust to make most mothers worried. Forty years into it, we’re still discovering new places to see and unforgettable travel experiences to make our passengers’ trips just that little bit more awesome. That’s us, but this is about you. It’s time to live large, dream bigger and squeeze life for all it’s worth. The rest can wait. Ready to pack your bags? Let’s talk.
OUR AFRICA TRIPS In Africa we work with leading safari operator Acacia to deliver epic adventures across the continent. With more than 20 years experience running trips here and a team made up of people either from Africa or with significant time spent living there, you can rest assured you’re in good hands. You’ll stay in two-person dome tents on quality camping grounds and get around in fully equipped safari trucks. All trips are run with a focus on sustainability, which means food shopping in local markets and lending a hand cooking, cleaning and unloading the trucks.

GORILLA PERMITS The Bwindi Impenetrable Park region is home to 400 of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Due to the endangered status of this species, visitors are strictly limited and a permit must be reserved at the time of booking to make sure you get to spend time with these gentle giants. The cost for the permit is listed on each itinerary visiting the area and we will obtain one on your behalf (if still available). The permit also includes a trekking excursion to see chimpanzees in their local habitat at Kyambura Gorge. Note: gorilla permit rates are subject to change due to currency fluctuations. Tip: It’s important to book your trip early since the number of gorilla permits is limited. Note that local laws and regulations don’t allow for permits to be reserved in bulk.
LOCAL PAYMENT To offer you the best value, the cost of your trip is broken up between a trip price payable at the time of booking and a local payment payable in USD to your Trip Leader on your first day*. This payment covers food purchases, camping costs and the visit to at least one major game park during your trip. Breaking these costs out allows us to maintain transparency with our suppliers and travellers as well as making sure the money goes directly to the people who have earned it. DAYS 1-2 Johannesburg, South Africa to Kruger National Park. Our trip begins in Johannesburg, the City of Gold and one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the African continent. Starting early, we travel east through the Mpumalanga province to the Greater Kruger area. Kruger is South Africa’s premier national park and in connection with parks in adjoining Mozambique and Botswana, covers 24,000 square kilometres of land used in the protection of African wildlife! Over dinner we enjoy a Shangaan cultural evening including traditional dance. We enjoy a full day’s game viewing in the national park, seeking wildlife encounters with Africa’s Big 5 - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – as well as giraffe, hippo, zebra, various antelope and a variety of amazing birdlife and reptiles. (D) (B,L,D) DAYS 3-4 Kruger National Park to Antelope Park, Zimbabwe. Leaving Kruger, we move north, spending the night near the Limpopo River close to the Beitbridge Border. Completing formalities at the border post we enter Zimbabwe and drive through stunning landscapes and the town of Gweru to Antelope Park private game-ranch. There is the opportunity to try various optional activities including game drives, horseback riding, canoeing and many more. (B,L,Dx2) DAYS 5-7 Antelope Park to Livingstone, Zambia. From Antelope Park, we make our way to Hwange National Park – Zimbabwe’s largest and best known Game Reserve and home to over 100 mammal species including the Big 5. We take either an evening or a morning game drive in the park before we cross into Zambia and drive to Livingstone and our camp situated on the banks of the Zambezi River. We have our last night at camp just downstream from Victoria Falls, one of Africa’s most spectacular sights and the perfect place to end our trip. (B,L,D) (Bx2)

The trek can be demanding but the effort is soon forgotten when we finally find ourselves in the midst of a family of gorillas. We have a one-hour audience with these gentle giants, and you may be surprised at how close you can get and how human-like they are. DAY 1 Kampala, Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park. From Kampala, we travel west towards Queen Elizabeth National Park through fertile green terraced hillsides, lush banana plantations, steep mountains and tangled forests with herds of Ankole cattle with their incredible long curving horns roaming the roads and paddocks. We camp a short distance from the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here you will have the opportunity to relax and unwind, take a walk in the surrounding areas and mingle with the local community. (L,D) DAY 2 Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Bunyonyi. This morning we enter the Queen Elizabeth National Park and take in the magnificent views of the mountains that separate Uganda from central Africa as well as Lake Edwards and Lake George. In fact Queen Elizabeth National park has over 500 species of bird and 100 species of mammals making it one of the most biodiverse national parks in the world and if you’re lucky, you might get to spot these animals en route to Kyambura Gorge for the trek to see the chimpanzees. Unlike their larger cousins the mountain gorilla, chimps live mostly in the trees and so our viewing is usually peering high into the forest canopy. However the experience of seeing man’s closest relative in the wild is a memorable one. We leave the national park and make our way to the lush and stunning Lake Bunyonyi (‘Place of many little birds’). This lake is 27km long, 7km wide and at an elevation of 1950m above sea level is surrounded by undulating hills between 2200m to 2478m high. With a depth of nearly 900m in parts this lake is the second deepest lake in Africa (the deepest being Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania). With 29 islands that can be visited by local boats, the lake is a great place to unwind, relax and explore on the days that we don’t trek to see the mountain gorillas. (B,L,D)

DAY 3-5 Lake Bunyonyi (Gorilla trek and free time). This region of Africa is home to the world’s remaining 770 mountain gorillas, many of which inhabit the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. (Occasionally we may travel into neighbouring Rwanda to trek for the gorillas) On the day of our trek we gather in the early morning to meet our local guide and tracker. Walking in small

groups we trek into the thick rainforest. The trek can be demanding at times with uneven terrain and hilly rainforest but the privilege of spending time with a family of these gentle primates makes the effort well worthwhile. To many people, even those who stay in Africa longer, the day’s trek and time with the gorillas remains their most exciting wildlife encounter in Africa. When you’re not trekking there are many activities to do here such as hiring canoes to visit some of the lake’s islands, local tribes and villages and local orphanage as well as bird watching and nature walks. Or just relax around camp, catch up on the diary, or send some postcards home. (B,L,Dx3) DAY 6 Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala. Leaving Lake Bunyonyi we make our way back across the Equator (stopping for a photo opportunity if we did not stop en route to Queen Elizabeth National Park) through lush pasture lands and the northern reaches of Lake Victoria (largest lake in Africa) to Kampala where our trip finishes upon arrival. Kampala is a hotspot for great food and entertainment. If time allows, take the night out and try the local cuisines and enjoy the hospitality and friendliness of the local Ugandans. (B,L)

Next up is Winston Churchill’s Pearl of Africa, a country with beautiful natural scenery and a rich mosaic of tribes and cultures. Our first night we camp at Kampala, a hilly city, bustling with roadside traders, markets and matatu (mini-bus taxi) stands. (B,L,D) DAY 4: Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park. BOOKING YOUR HOLIDAY a) Bookings can be made either through your local travel agent or with us direct and must be secured with a deposit of ZAR2000 per person at the time of booking, This deposit is non-refundable unless we cancel your trip, plus, on tours visiting the gorillas and/or chimpanzees, the non-refundable price of the appropriate trekking permit. If You are booking within eight weeks of departure, full payment is required. b) Your booking is accepted by the Company and becomes effective only from the date when the Company has confirmed acceptance to You or your travel agent in writing and issued a Confirmation Invoice. On that date The Contract for the holiday will come into effect. If for any reason the Company does not accept your booking your deposit will be returned. If other people are included in the booking you make, you accept the responsibility that they too are bound by these booking conditions and you have communicated these to them. c) If You arrange your holiday directly with Topdeck, all correspondence and other communications will be sent to the address specified by You on your Booking Form, which will be that of the first person named, unless indicated otherwise by You. d) If your booking is made through a travel agent, all communication from the Company will be with the agent. For the avoidance of doubt all online bookings shall be deemed as booked in England and subject to these Terms and Conditions 2. AMENDMENTS AND CANCELLATION a) Amendments by You. The Company will make every effort to assist You if you wish to alter your arrangements but reserves the right to impose an amending charge of ZAR600 per booking in the event of your wishing to change a booking previously confirmed by the Company up to 56 days before departure, together with communication charges and other expenses incurred by the company. These charges will be payable whether or not the Company is successful in confirming the amended reservation. All amendments should be reconfirmed in writing, signed by the signatory of the original booking. b) Transfer of Bookings You may change your booking up to 30 days before departure by transferring it to another person if you are unavoidably prevented from travelling and the transferee meets any and all the conditions which apply to the travel arrangements booked. Cancellation will be effective on the day it is received by the Company. The following charges, in addition to your deposit and where applicable the gorilla/chimpanzee permit money, will be payable by You, depending upon the number of days prior to departure date when the Company receives notice of cancellation. The following is the cancellation fee payable based on when the cancel notification is received by the Company:

d) The Company acts as an agent when booking pre or post tour hotel accommodation and airport transfers. Cancellation of booked accommodation or transfers will be subject to a fee equal to one night’s accommodation provided you give at least 7 days’ notice of cancellation. Cancellation within 7 days will be subject to a fee equal to 100% of the price You have paid for the transfers and accommodation. e) Amendments or Cancellation by the Company. (i) If You do not pay the balance of the holiday price by eight weeks (56 days) before departure date, the Company reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled, and to levy cancellation charges. (ii) Every effort will be made to operate all holidays as advertised. However, we do plan the arrangements many months in advance and occasionally we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. In very rare circumstances, such as insufficient numbers on safari holiday departures, the Company may have to cancel the whole or part of your holiday at any time up to four weeks prior to departure. In the event of any cancellation, the Company will use its best endeavours to offer alternative arrangements of a comparable standard or to make a full and prompt refund for all monies paid by You. (iii) The Company will not normally cancel any holiday within four weeks of departure, except in circumstances outside the Company’s control in the event of war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, industrial dispute, terrorist activities (threatened or actual), natural and nuclear disaster, fire or adverse weather conditions, or other circumstances amounting to force majeure. The Company will then use its best endeavours to offer you an alternative holiday of comparable standard, or make full and prompt refund of all monies paid to it by you. (iv) In the rare event of cancellation becoming necessary within four weeks of departure date for reasons other than the force majeure circumstances described in the preceding paragraph, then the Company will offer, whenever possible, comparable arrangements or a full refund of all monies received by the Company from you. In addition, if the Company cancels a holiday less than 15 days before
departure, compensation of 10% of the holiday price (excluding insurance premiums, amendment charges and air fares) will be paid to You. (v) The Company reserves the right to alter routes, schedules, itineraries, amenities and mode of transport, without prior notice, during the period of the holiday, due to circumstances or events which affect the stated intentions of the holiday. These influences may include, but are not limited to, sickness, mechanical breakdown, events emanating from political disputes, acts of terrorism (threatened or actual), entry of border difficulties, adverse weather conditions, earthquakes, and other unpredictable or unforeseeable circumstances. (vi) The Company designates selected tour departures as ‘Guaranteed’ at its discretion. This guarantee is subject to (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above and the Company reserves the right to remove the Guaranteed designation at any time. 3. HOLIDAY PRICE POLICY a) All Prices in this brochure are based by reference to currency rates published in the UK Financial Times on 22 August 2014. DAYS 6-8 Lake Bunyonyi (Gorilla trek and free time). Using Lake Bunyonyi as our base, it is in the densely forested area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest that local guides will lead us through the jungle on an optional trek to see a family of gorillas in the wild. The trek can be demanding but the effort is soon forgotten when we finally find ourselves in the midst of a family of gorillas. We have a one-hour audience with these gentle giants, and you may be surprised at how close you can get and how human-like they are. We spend several days in the area to allow time for everyone to complete the trek. (B,L,Dx3)
