AMBERNAZWA ROOM RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Amber Room is located within Sobański Palace, an architectural gem on one of the most beautiful streets in Warsaw. Part of the Polish Business Roundtable Club, the visionary behind this is the late Mr. Jan Wejchert. A spacious setting spells class; the essence here is modern Polish, with items such as the foie gras marinated in Madeira with figs; the duck breast with creamy carrots and figs; and the chocolate fondant with cheesecake. The restaurant has proven itself at the “Wine and Food Noble Night” culinary competition organized annually in Warsaw; in its first entry in 2010 it won in all three categories! Recommended by the Michelin Guide 2011 and 2012, it is only one of two restaurants in the city to have received Michelin’s 4 Forks and Spoons categorizing it as a luxurious restaurant! Note: An outstanding 3-course Business Lunch is priced at just 79 PLN per person.

A. BLIKLE NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
If there is a famous Polish café that defines history then one needs to visit A. Blikle, in existence since 1869. Nowadays, more of a cafe cum brasserie, this institution which has been run by the Blikle family for five generations offers a synthesis between Polish and French cuisine. While its “café aspect” needs no introduction with its wide spectrum of offerings- desserts, famous donuts, cheesecake with raspberry, fine coffees and teas, its brasserie is demonstrating the same sense in its food offering. The mushroom soup with dumplings; the wheat and buckwheat pancakes served with salmon, caviar, or herring; the foie gras with gingerbread; duck in various recipe formulations and the St. Jacob mussels are good selections. With breakfast served all day including the Russian breakfast with champagne and caviar, A. Blikle always lives up to a quality experience.

BUTCHERY & WINE RESTAURANT
Butchery & Wine has become the only restaurant in Poland to be awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which implies good value for money and which represents a favorite of the Michelin Guides. Speaking to owner Daniel Pawelek it is abundantly clear that his objective is for Butchery & Wine to be known as a place in Warsaw’s center where guests can enjoy outstanding food from a thankfully short menu—this aspect is extremely uncommon and intelligent. Appetizers and dishes such as the roast bone marrow, a classic; seared scallops with boudin noir; Bavette steak with shallots; and cote de boeuf, are all outstanding, perhaps to be followed by dessert such as the spiced pear and apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream. A comprehensive wine list, and friendly service make Butchery & Wine a top selection!

Apart from the fixed menu, the restaurant offers dishes which vary with the seasons. The extensive wine list from across the world enables an appropriately matched selection with the ordered dish. DOWNTOWN RESTAURANT
Downtown Restaurant and Steakhouse, is finally conveying in clear terms what it means to be a genuine steak place. This implies a dining experience defined by an elegant simplicity, honesty and warmth. There are no complicated recipes or distractions; instead the emphasis is on fine, fresh ingredients simply allowing their purity and natural flavors to emerge and impress the palate. The steak menu, with its topmost-quality of meat cuts and classic steakhouse techniques, is inspiring; the Charoluxe tenderloin with orangewhiskey sauce is an example! Of course fresh fish, seafood, poultry, and lamb are all available in grilled perfection for those who seek alternatives. A vibrant atmosphere, an extensive wine and cocktail list, and an attentive staff make for an outstanding experience. A big welcome awaits one Downtown!

@FERDY’S NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
An inspired tribute to the life of Poland’s 20th century author Witold Gombrowicz, Ferdy’s derives its name from his 1937 novel, Ferdydurke. Chef Dariusz Zachoraski’s menu is international with Polish accents following the author’s Polish origin and his travels in South America, Argentina, and France. Selections such as the cold, creamy red beetroot soup with yoghurt; black tiger prawns and scallops ceviche; dried pork loin with rowan aromatized vodka; oven-roasted cod medallion served with cream of broad beans with mint, are all outstanding. An impressive wine list is well matched to the menu, and with a well stocked bar and a special lounge area, @Ferdy’s has become a place for both casual, as well as for a top-notch culinary experience. A valuable testimony is the restaurant’s patronage by business executives, diplomats, and the city’s intellectual crowd!

The word Gospoda means “inn”, a typical place where over the centuries different folks melded cultures to produce both culinary as well as social traditions. Folk Gospoda reflects this history in its warmly illumined wooden interiors, sturdy bench seating, and live folk music and dances performed by vividly costumed Polish highlanders; the mind is most definitely transported to an age quickly passing us by. The menu of course is replete with country wholesomeness. Appetizers such as highlanders’ style oscypek, or smoked sheep’s cheese from the Polish mountains, served with cranberry; pierogi with various fillings; and dishes such as the roasted pork with garlic and plums, are all true to their flavorful tradition. High profile guests from all walks of life are often spotted here, and this is indeed a place which delivers tradition, wonderful food, and great fun!
OBERZA POD CZERWONYM NAZWA RESTAURACJI WIEPRZEM
Oberża Pod Czerwonym Wieprzem, or the Inn Under the Red Hog has as its theme the country’s communist period, with the venue itself having in its history served as a dining establishment for the top communist honchos during the era. The walls are replete with portraits of old communists, and the dishes have names such as Delicacies of the Polish People’s Republic, a selection of pate, luncheon meat, blood sausage, and kiełbasa; varied pierogi “made from rationed flour”; and Baltic herring and game pate for the “Dignitaries and Bourgeoisie”. But humor aside, this is Polish cuisine in fact at its very best, with main dishes that are outstanding-examples include the oven roasted duck, served with cherry sauce, roasted apple, and beetroot. This is indeed an intelligent, heart-warming interpretation of a not-solight-hearted episode in the history of this nation and of the world!

Joseph Seeletso, the founder and celebrity chef owner of Joseph’s Wine & Food was born in Botswana where he inherited the idea of gastronomy from his father. His first job at 19 in the kitchen of the Sheraton Hotel there was intense. In 1998 he graduated from Westminster College in London with honors and received the Professional Chef’s Diploma. At the Claridge’s in London he acquired further skills under Executive Chef John Williams. His Poland phase began in Krakow in 1998, blending African cuisine with international culinary themes producing his ‘heavenly combinations’. A TV star in Poland in his own right, Joseph was invited in 2010 by CNN to showcase Poland in the distinguished company of Professor Norman Davies. Botswana was where he started exploring the world of wine, giving him endless ideas of combinations of dishes and wine.
NAZWA RESTAURACJI
He has represented Botswana during international trade shows in Orlando in 2005 and Tokyo in 2006, and flies back to Botswana regularly to prepare Presidential state dinners. His outstanding restaurant and wine bar is now the place to be in Warsaw where his innovations of different foods are prepared in an open kitchen format. The location of a former factory, a wine bar with perhaps the longest list of wines in the entire city, a wine
store, all provide an outstanding atmosphere. Culinary creativity is experienced in flavorpacked items such as the tuna tartare; the marinated duck breast with carrot mousse and sugar peas; and Pandanus mousse for dessert. Joseph’s Wine & Food is a top choice indeed! Please note: From September the restaurant opens on Sunday during 12.00-16.30, offering special family lunch.

Top dining experience indeed has arrived in the heart of Warsaw with French restaurant L’Arc. This is the fruit of labor on the part of the owners who have striven intensely to create a unique and modern restaurant where guests can experience its refined yet simple elegance, and partake of a menu that offers top class gastronomy at reasonable prices. The culinary seriousness is apparent as one enters with white-apron waiters eager to describe a wonderful menu replete with a wide selection of seafood, meats, and salads. The St. Jacques scallops with the risotto, for example, is an excellent starter, the tasting of which will immediately put the culinary merit of the place in context. Where there is effort, the results show; not surprisingly there is an outstanding blend of a wealth of flavors and an atmosphere which delights at all levels at L ‘Arc!

La Rotisserie is located in an architectural gem that aptly matches its own standing as an established star in this city’s culinary firmament. The venue, the super elegant Mamaison Hotel Le Régina, stands with restored grandeur in a magical part of Warsaw’s historical Old Town. Chef Paweł Oszczyk is faithful to his training in classical cooking and Sommelier Andrzej Strzelczyk, takes special care that one’s selection of wine is nothing less than perfect. A new season-inspired menu has dishes such as the scallop salad with pineapple and Thai basil; the baked fillet of trout with fennel and saffron essence; and the roasted rack of Welsh lamb, with tomato, arugula, and goat cheese risotto. The salient fact about Lebanese cuisine is that it is truly Mediterranean, with healthful ingredients and preparations that emphasize the use of fresh ingredients. Le Cedre is the only Lebanese purveyor in Poland of its class, with a 15-year history at Aleja Solidarności 61, and now a newer branch at Aleja Solidarności 84, which is located closer to the city center. A favorite of the city’s corporate bigwigs, it is also for the experiencing of a fine, delicate cuisine with family and friends. The menu is replete with Lebanese classics such as an array of cold and warm mezze--small dishes with incredible flavors and textures, and which include refreshing salads such as the tabbouleh and fattoush, together with dips such as hummus, and babaghanoush. With Lebanese wines on the menu, ingredients flown in from Lebanon, Le Cedre (both of them) are a class act through and through!
MARCONI NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
The name of the restaurant derives from Władysław Marconi, a Pole of Italian descent and the main architect of the Bristol Hotel constructed in 1901. An international cuisine with a whole spectrum of dishes is served, ranging from simple salads to the breast of guinea-fowl accompanied with risotto flavored with truffles; various meat and fish dishes; delicious desserts; and of course a rich collection of wines. The restaurant is immensely popular for its outstanding brunch, perhaps the best in town, offered between 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Great for business lunch as well, the lunch menu offers classic Italian dishes, pasta, salads, fish and meat; and a rich assortment of cold snacks. Merliniego 5 indeed could very well be the star one has waited for!
PLATTER RESTAURANT
If food is an art form, there is no better proof of this than at Platter! After all, art is all about arranging elements in such ways so as to stimulate the senses, and invoke imageries and thoughts that transforms us in immeasurable ways. Chef Karol Okrasa achieves this with flavors which gush forth with warm memories of childhood, a sense of fun, and an invitation to simply derive pleasure from food. Platter’s originality reflects Karol Okrasa’s passion for creating a fresh and healthy Polish menu, served with a contemporary twist. And not with the all-pervasive, clichéd, heartless twist, but drawing instead from the flavorful memories of Karol’s own childhood: every ingredient is natural, each element is authentic, and every flavor emanates as if straight from the heart. This is culinary achievement at its best, to be tried and cherished!

The delicious salmon tartar, salad with shrimp and avocado, and of course a refined array of fine sashimi and sushi are a treat for two reasons—the skill of he sushi masters behind the counter and the quality of ingredients as far as freshness and appropriate cuts are concerned. SŁODKI...SŁONY NAZWA RESTAURANT RESTAURACJI & CAFÉ
Located on swanky Mokotowska Street, Słodki... Słony, pronounced “swodkey, swoneh” (and which translates to Sweet, Salty), is Poland’s top restaurateur and culinary genius Magda Gessler’s immense imagination coming together to produce gastronomic art of high order. Passion is clearly evident here with over 60 kinds of desserts, cakes, and pastries on the menu; what is different here is that recipes are 100% natural and date back over a century. Not surprisingly sweets were even sent to Pope John Paul II at the Vatican! Just as “Słodki” caters to the sweeter aspects of life, “Słony” caters to the salted, with items such as the caviar served on toast with egg and lemon, salmon in a marinade of green lemon and dill, alongside good old Polish bigos as well. A marriage of immense flavors, traditions, and an enrapturing ambience makes this place a sweet Warsaw experience indeed!

TAMKA NAZWA 43 RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Located within the same premises as the Chopin Museum, Tamka 43 has become the city’s new culinary icon; the reason is owner Paweł Kwiatkowski and Chef Robert Trzópek whose work experience includes NOMA and El Bulli, restaurants rated #1 and #2 in the world! What Tamka 43 offers is completely different fare with its surprising combination of flavors and Sous-Vide cuisine. Described as molecular cuisine, the dishes here are an art form retaining most or all of their nutritional value. The menu is short and changes frequently to reflect only fresh and seasonal Polish and European products. The selection of wines with one’s order is best left to the fine expertise of the staff who know what goes with the refined flavors of the food. This is indeed a place which Warsaw is proud of; a modern restaurant representing the world’s top culinary standards!

TOMONAZWA SUSHI RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
Tomo Sushi stands tall amongst Warsaw’s crowded culinary scene, largely due to a few unassailable features—great quality, authenticity, and an easy welcoming atmosphere. It has proven itself with creativity which is evident here at all levels. The menu has been put together with a clear thought to impress that this is no ordinary sushi place with items such as the Gyutataki, slices of raw beef served with shichimi sauce, grated daikon, fresh ginger, onions and greens; and the Shiromi Usuzukuri which is thinly sliced carpaccio of fresh white fish with lemon based ponzu sauce. The tuna steak with mustard sauce; the chicken teriyaki are all equally wonderful. The vision of Tomo’s co-owner Andrzej Pankiewicz is to impart a memorable experience; the word “Tomo” in Japanese implies friendship, and this is the place to enjoy company in the presence of outstanding culinary creations!

U FUKIERA NAZWA RESTAURACJI RESTAURANT
U Fukiera, is a townhouse restaurant that has indeed become an ornament in Warsaw’s Old Town Square. Magda Gessler’s signature is everywhere, from fresh flowers, antiques, and art, to the excellent culinary experience. Magda Gessler had the vision over fifteen years ago to present that what Poland had to offer in terms of style, and remarkable culinary traditions could rival and surpass any other. Much of what appears on the table is what she learned from her grandmother with dishes such as the baked carp with porcini mushrooms and cream; and white sausage with honey and onion jam. With a far reaching reputation both domestically and internationally, its guest list boasts many visiting dignitaries. Ultimately what stands out at U Fukiera is the distinct philosophy that all guests here are A-list celebrities—to be fed, treated, and looked after as such!

The enthralling steak menu includes grilled tenderloin, New York strip, and the classic rib eye cut; all accompanied by home-style sauces and chutneys. All of this goes with fine wine from a glass-enclosed winery with an impressive array of European and New World vintages. The Sunday Brunch has become a mainstay for many bringing their families and friends including children who are entertained in the fun-filled Kids Corner. Venti-tre is an outstanding experience indeed!
VINOTEKA LA BODEGA RESTAURANT
Conveniently located in Warsaw’s prestigious street Nowy Swiat, is La Bodega. The name means “warehouse of wines” and this imagery is fully justified as it is a part of the city’s most successful wine store, Vinoteka La Bodega. Having made a substantial mark on the gastronomic map of the city, the restaurant is outstanding for those seeking a Mediterranean bent; here the accent is largely Spanish with items on the menu such as Paella Valenciana; fabada, a rich bean stew; chistorra with olive oil and rosemary; and a variety of outstanding meats, fish, and seafood. There are Polish lunches each day as well. Customers pay only a small, corking fee to get wine straight from the wine store, providing in effect a wine list which is second to none! During summer, the pati offers wonderful products from the grill, chilled beer, and the simple ability to just relax and enjoy!

This exhibition at the National Museum in Warsaw presents the work of Sara Lipska (1882–1973) – a versatile artist, who expressed her sensibility in many areas of fine arts. She worked with sculpture, painting, interior design, theatrical costume and decoration design, fashion, as well as book illustration. Most of her life was spent in Paris where she collaborated with Serge Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes in the Opera de Paris; with Helena Rubinstein; with Antoine de Paris, the famous hairdresser; and architect Adrienne Gorska. Her great passion was fashion design; she collaborated with Maison Myrbor and with Paul Poiret, and ran a fashion boutique with samples of her own clothes. Her work is lesser known in Poland since most of her works remain in French museums and private collections. The exhibition will be an opportunity to learn about her rich creativity. www.mnw.art.pl
POLISH NATIONAL OPERA
This new ballet of Boris Eifman dedicated to life of the great sculptor Auguste Rodin and his apprentice, lover, and muse Camille Claudel, conveys the story of a passionate relationship. For 15 years Rodin and Claudel had been one creative body, and their breakup dealt a death blow to Camille’s mental health and marked the beginning of her destruction. Almost forgotten, isolated from the outside world, Claudel had to spend her life in a mental asylum, where she died in 1943, forgotten by everyone. In this ballet about the tragic nature of the life of geniuses, Eifman not only presents a new conception of the world of human passions conveyed wonderfully by Rodin and Claudel in their works, but also creates a masterpiece dedicated to the incomprehensible mystery of the process of creation. This promises to be a show which will leave one with a lasting impression. www.teatrwielki.pl

The 55th “Warsaw Autumn” International Festival of Contemporary Music, to be held September 21–29, 2012 is titled “Warsaw Autumn… with a voice”. It is the only festival in Poland on an international scale and was created in 1956, during the thaw that followed years of Stalinist dictatorship. The Festival continued without interruption (with two exceptions) during the entire communist era and for many years was the only event of this kind in Central and Eastern Europe. The Festival still plays an essential role in shaping contemporary culture in Poland. One of the festival’s main events will be Inori, a composition for dancers and orchestra, written by Karlheinz Stockhausen. The work features a number of gestures, prayers, and rituals, borrowed from many world cultures closely synchronized with sound, and is an example of what will transpire during the event. www.warszawska-jesien.art.pl
