TORA COURSEY GRADUATING INTERIOR DESIGNER B.B.A IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Welcome to my portfolio! I am currently a fourth year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in interior design and a Bachelor of Business Administration in entrepreneurial management at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. During my undergraduate years, I filled a number of design roles within education and healthcare practices where I gained technical and strategic expertise in these key markets. I have enjoyed being the first student to attempt both the Neeley School of Business and the TCU interior design program. Through my finance classes, I learned project management, accounting, and budgeting skills. My management classes have taught me how to be an effective team member and leader. Through taking seven/eight classes per semester while working part time, I have learned that I strive in high-pace environments where I need to push myself. I hope to use my business education to further gain an understanding of the finance process that goes into creating a cost-effective project that aligns with client expectations.

BREAST CANCER CENTER FALL 2016

Komorebi is the Japanese word for sunlight filtering through the trees, and the understanding that while times can be dark there is always the hope of light. The Komorebi Breast Cancer Center will incorporate the Japanese belief of In and Yo. ‘In’ is the idea of tranquility and the calmness of nature, and it is believed that a journey begins with being in the calm exterior ‘In’. Yo is the part of us that gives strength when times get difficult.

Acadia Athlesiure is targeting women that want to wear comfortable flexible clothes that allow them to go on a walk or hike in a park, but also be able to stop at the grab errands in the same outfit. The store will reflect the lifestyle of the trendy hiker/outdoors woman. The store is designed to feel more like a comfortable cabin and remind consumers of the natural resources we have around us. The clothes will suit those looking to keep warm in the winter while also having summer lines for women looking to work out in the hot sun.

NATIONAL CANCER CENTER OF SINGAPORE SUMMER 2016 Designed While Employed at Tsoi Kobus and Associates

Challenge: My role in this project was to review construction documents while also working through renderings for the clients. I presented to the clients fifteen renderings, which I completed within twelve days. This will be the largest cancer center in the world when completed. Concept: Calm and soothing images surround you during your care. This scheme highlights images of xrayed botanicals and abstract floral inspiration as screens. The wood in this scheme is warm but not as dark as the upper floors to create a lighter atmosphere than the upper levels.

NAPA VALLEY RESORT GYM SPRING 2016 The gym is designed to cater to those looking to sweat or relax in an environment that still allows them to still feel close to the serene outdoors of Napa Valley. The large windows located in front of the cardio machines give the visitors view of the main vineyard. The gym includes a water and towel station, treadmills, elliptical, free weights as well as stretching equipment. Attached to the gym is a yoga studio for those looking to relax even further on their trip. Similar to the aesthetic of the hotel, the yoga studio has been designed to calm the visitors with the use of natural lighting and organic materials.
