What is Ageing Well Torbay? Ageing Well Torbay is a six-year project, funded by the Big Lottery, which aims to reconnect communities and reduce social isolation amongst the 50-year plus generation across Torbay. Older people have told us that they are isolated and lonely due to retirement, bereavement, low income, poor health and mobility, lack of transport, and fear of leaving their homes. From work carried out with our partners over the last few years, we know that there are isolated older people in every neighbourhood of Torbay. We believe that old age should be viewed as an opportunity; that older people should be valued and be able to contribute to their communities. Did you know: • Approximately 45% of Torbay’s population is over the age of 50? • More than 6000 residents are isolated? • The majority of Torbay people that we asked have a negative view of ageing? • Older people want and deserve to be treated with respect and yet many feel they have nothing to live for? What are we doing to change that? We aim to: • Celebrate the skills, stories and knowledge of people over the age of 50 • Enable older people to feel their lives have value and purpose • Involve you, your neighbours, friends and family to make Torbay a positive place, where everyone feels included • Reconnect people with their friends and communities • Give voice to older people through an Older People’s Assembly

Love Live Laugh Learn
Welcome to this, our fourth free festival which celebrates ageing and older people in Torbay.
We are committed to holding the event in a different location each year and after the success of the 2017 festival at Lupton House near Brixham, we are braced for an even better turn out at Paignton Community and Sports Academy in Borough Road, Paignton (NOT Waterleat Road).
It is easy to get to by car or by bus, but there is NO PARKING on site, unless you have pre-booked a blue badge disabled space. Instead, please drive to the car park at South Devon College in Long Road, Paignton TQ4 7EJ, where a free shuttle bus will be waiting. If you do qualify for one of the disabled spaces then please ring us on 01803 212638 or email us at ageingwell@torbaycdt.org.uk. Blue badges only, sorry but there can be no exceptions. This year the overall theme is the 1970’s and the indefatigable steering group, who are all older people from across the Bay, have planned a cornucopia of events with you in mind including, talks, sports, music, comedy, workshops and displays.
We are hoping you will try something new - perhaps Tai Chi, or learn to play the ukulele, or bring your dancing shoes and join the 1970’s dance party. There’s music a plenty as well as workshops and stalls providing advice on legal matters and benefits, family history and computers. There are speakers on a range of subjects and we expect the art rooms to be busy throughout.
Flick through this programme and plan your day because we are confident that there really is something for everyone at this year’s event.
Your committee has worked hard to make the Festival even bigger and better. All we need is you, your family and your friends - our Ageing Well programme is designed to reduce social isolation in older people. What better way to get involved than to come along on the day and speak to those who are already participating in various projects with our delivery partners? You can also listen to our very own FM broadcast on 87.9FM.
