News from TCDT Volunteers Week 2016
pampering sessions for volunteers.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK – and it’s taking place from 1-12 June 2016.
As well as this, there will be 10 slots for volunteers on Riviera FM during the 12 days, where they can talk about their volunteering experience and the organisations they support, as well as playing a few of their favourite songs.
This year we are using Volunteers’ Week to focus on volunteers’ wellbeing, and we’ll be turning Torbay into a Volunteers’ Wellbeing Hub. Volunteers can be an organisation’s biggest asset, but how good are we at looking after them properly? Do we take the time to identify and manage stress among our volunteers? Are we aware of their mental health needs? How can they eat heathy lunches on a limited budget? And should volunteers take regular “annual leave” like paid staff? These are just a few of the topics we will be covering in the Volunteers’ Wellbeing Hub. Over the 12 days there will be a series of sessions and workshops around Torbay for both volunteers and those who manage volunteers, as well as
On Thursday 9 June we will also be holding a Volunteer Recruitment Fair, where those who are interested in volunteering can find out about a wide range of opportunities across the Bay. If you would like to have a stand at the fair, please contact Peter Stokes, Capacity Building Manager at TCDT, at peterstokes@torbaycdt.org.uk or on 01803 212638. We hope to see you at one of the events, and have a wonderful Volunteers’ Week 2016. Keep an eye on the TCDT website for the full calendar of events.
Fundraisers’ Forum 9th May.
services and organisations were busy delivering services,
Jacqui Wolstenholme from Clarity CIC, gave an informative presentation on Impact and Fundraising.at the last Fundraisers’ Forum, held on the 9th May.
Without proof that services actually meet need and do what they “say on the tin”she stated “it can be difficult for organisations to obtain grants.” Key funders such as the Big Lottery, Lloyds Bank Foundation and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation all stipulate the need to measure outcomes and impact through their funding programmes.
At the event, Jacqui told members that “fundraising and measuring impact should go hand in hand.” However she noted that measuring the impact services make to people was not necessarily high on the ‘to-do-list’ because fundraisers were busy looking for money to deliver
If it is not easy for a funder to understand the purpose behind an organisation, or how good an organisation is at meeting its’ mission, it can negatively impact
the chance of winning a grant. Jacqui gave a range of tips on effective ways VCSE organisations could gather data and information and showcase the outcomes achieved through their work, such as surveys, case studies, research, ways to monitor change etc. The next Torbay Fundraisers’ Forum is scheduled for 6th June, 2PM at Endeavour House. Guest Speaker TBC. Contact Robin Causley robincausley@torbaycdt.org. uk to reserve your place.

Article by Jess Slade, Carers Trust Phoenix Carers Trust Phoenix formally known as Crossroads Care held a Tea Dance on the 20th of April 3pm till 5.30pm at Lupton House for anyone over the age of 50 living in Torbay.
At the Tea Dance we had a professional who runs tea dances at local hotels in Torbay, they providing the entertainment and brought along some friends to encourage people to get on the dance floor.
We had over 80 people phone us to book their space and 72 attended on the day.
One of our registered Carers is also an entertainer and preformed for us singing some hits to get your toes tapping while everyone was enjoying their afternoon tea.
We invited all organisations working under the Ageing Well Project to advertise all our services for all unpaid carers and the over 50’s in Torbay, staff were available to chat and discuss opportunities with the visitors in between dancing and most importantly afternoon tea with all the trimmings.
It was a FREE event including an opportunity to dance, an afternoon tea, an opportunity to find out more about FREE services and activities provided by Ageing Well organisations and a raffle which raised ÂŁ133 to go towards more FREE events in the future.
We have had some great feedback and believe it gave local people the opportunity to get involved. We were able to recruit 4 new volunteers during the event and have received a few possible referrals of specific projects. Circle’s of Support is a new project which focuses on older isolated Carers in Torbay. We want to identify people which might benefit from this project – do you know someone that is over 50, isolated and cares for someone in Torbay? We enable Circles which are “Allies” people from the local community which make up a Carer’s “circle” to support them – perhaps practically or socially, to build their confidence and give them back some me time.
Could you be an “Ally” for someone in your local community?
If you would like more information regarding Carers Trust Pheonix or any of our services please contact us on 01803 323510.
