Parents exploit teenager in sex work

A 14-year-old student at MOGCHS allegedly turned out to be a prostitute receiving an amount of P4,000 per session.

The teachers and the acquaintances of the girl have tried persuading her to stop after discovering about the matter.

With the temptation of money, the victim and her family refused to stop despite knowing it as an illegal activity.

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the parents may have violated the Republic Act 7160 as they have let their child perform sexual activities to profit money.

“If the situation or case has the parents involved with the abusive acts, they violated the RA 7610,” DSWD Social Welfare Officer III Ms. Florie Lee Marie Berbida said in an interview.

Berbida added that the victim could possibly face psychological issues such as (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) PTSD, social anxiety, depression, and more after being constantly indulged in sexual

intercourse with multiple adults.

Child caring institutions or temporary shelters by DSWD will be provided to the victim if ever the parents will be put behind the bars.

Boyfriend’s helping hand

The subject teacher of the girl exclusively said in an interview that the boyfriend of the victim may have dropped out because of the issue.

According to the teacher, the boy had tried begging the girl to stop from continuing the lascivious conduct.

The victim however, did not put an end in doing the act as she allegedly thinks that it gives a ‘great deal’ of financial benefits to their family.

As she continued being reluctant from her boyfriend’s advice, the couple got into a fight causing them to split up.

The boy then dropped out from MOGCHS with no signs of showing up ever since.

Speculations grew that the boyfriend could not accept her as a ‘prostitute’, being the

only close acquaintance of the girl opposing the act.

Loss of innocence

The victim’s own adviser had also tried to help and get her out of the horrible situation.

However, even her own boyfriend’s parents, including hers, continued supporting the girl as they also got shares from what the victim gets.

Even after the continuous warning and advice that the girl had received, she did not bother to stop; thinking of it as a big ‘help’ to her parents.

Allegations sparked that the girl may have been manipulated by her parents to ignore such behavior, taking away the girl’s innocence.

According to researchers, the mental health of a 14-yearold is still not fully-developed and is possibly incapable of recognizing the right things and the wrong ones, which could have been the reason why the victim refused to stop being a sex worker.

School’s response

MOGCHS’s Guidance

Counselor Jasper Cañete said in an interview that the school is aware of the said happenings inside the school, but they aren’t informed about the identities of these people thus no actions can be made to the matter.

“We are aware that this is happening, we don’t know all of the ones engaging in these activities and business but particularly this is kind of a personal thing and therefore it requires a more in-depth talk [and] in-depth conversation,”

Sir Cañete said.

The school counselor added that several victims claimed that they are ‘okay’ with selling their bodies and it slowly became part of their daily routine.

“For those we do know of, and are being asked by either the adviser and the subject teachers who know these students, quite frankly these students say that they are okay with it, or this is a daily routine cause it can be under the context of trafficking on

way or another because they are underage,” he added.

Despite receiving the information about these certain events, the school has ‘no authority’ to stop such activities as the victims have to be the one to step forward and confess, as part of their human rights.

“It is very hard to stop it because in context we need a very reliable witness or person to come forward. Even in rape cases, the one who is raped needs to be the person to come forward and speak their thoughts about being raped,”

Mr. Cañete stated.

Prostitution of students inside the school premises can only be reported to the police only if a reliable source or witness is presented.

Mayor Uy boosts CDO tax collection by 36%

Uy has increased the tax payments by 36% as he implemented the tax amnesty ordinance.

Aggravated more with the country’s high inflation rate, the regulation made the prices raise more than its original cost.

This has led to a significant increase in business tax collections, the highest seen in half a decade.

City Treasurer Jasmin Maagad stated that the city hall has collected P704 million as of January 26, P185 million more than the P519 million it raised during the same period in 2022 when the pandemic was pulling the economy down.

Maagad credited the recovery in business gross sales as they emerged from the pandemic-related economic downturn for the 36% increase in business tax receipts in January.

According to Cyrus Ellorin, one of the city hall’s spokesperson, the officials were confident in reaching and even exceeding prepandemic collecting levels by the end of 2023.

Even so, the regulation encourages many enterprises to pay municipal taxes and renew their licenses by only allowing them to pay 30% of the primary arrears which is a major deal for sellers who own small enterprises.

In an interview with a businesswoman selling Siomai stated that the tax amnesty had affected her business as she had to pay more than usual.

“Naglisud jud mig samot, Kay mahal na kaayo Ang mga ingredients ug karun nisamot pa nga dako na kaayo Ang among bayaran na tax unlike before”, she said.

A student also shared how they are having a hard time to budget their monetary allowance due to the price hike.

“We are having a hard time to budget our allowance na kay nagmahal gyud ang mga tinda karun compared sa three years ago before nag pandemic, naapektuhan gyud gihapon mi I can say”, she emphasized.

However, the official’s efforts to restore the city’s economy from the consequences of COVID-19 will be aided by the increase in collections from local businesses.

Ray Talimio Jr., president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, attributed the significant rise in the amount of business taxes collected by the city hall to the local government’s tax amnesty policy.

Despite everything that is happening, the president anticipated that tax revenue will reach the desired level this year.

“With the way things are going, I think the city will reach its target in tax collection this year,” Talimio said.

Gunman kills 5 in CDO military camp

A shooting spree inside the Army's Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City resulted in the deaths of five troops, including the gunman on February 11.

Another was injured after killing the soldier who went deranged, Private Johmar Villabito, as an act of defense during a gunfight

According to a report from the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), the victims were Private First Class Prince Kevin Balaba, Private Joseph Tamayo, Corporal Bernard Rodrigo, and Sergeant Rogelio Rojo Jr.

Major Francisco Garello Jr., the Army's 4th Infantry Division spokesman, claims that the event occurred inside the Service Support Battalion's compound past 1:00 AM.

In a media interview, Garello quoted, "This resulted to the death of four... of our soldiers and wounding another one... The suspect used the M16 rifle. The suspect shot the victims while they're sleeping.”

Garello stated that they were still unable to ascertain the reason for the suspect's behavior and could not corroborate allegations that the violence was a result of a relationship.

“Although we don't yet have confirmation of that, what we can confirm is that there [are] five soldiers dead during the incident... one is wounded and being given medical attention," he added.

Maj. Gen. Wilbur Mamawag, the 4ID's commander, has now assembled a board of inquiry team to collaborate with the Philippine National Police Cagayan de Oro City Police (PNP Cocpo) and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to look further into the situation.

“Measures were put in place for the prevention of the same incident in the future,” Mamawag said.

The 4th Infantry Division has expressed its sympathies to the victims' families and promised to assist law enforcement in their inquiry number.

Guidance Counselor stresses on school's security

Ap Department Head

MOGCHS-

Lucy Perocho spoke on February 22 about wearing a uniform and ID to strengthen the safety of learners .

Students from other schools are not allowed to enter the campus without permission given by the guard or teacher.

High school student from Canitoan National High School was found switching their IDs to an outsider who attempted to enter the campus. Switching school IDs to an outsider will allow them to enter the campus without being noticed by the guard.

Perocho said , " for security sa atong school, you have to wear a uniform for your identity and security."

Moreover, the head teacher encourages the students to wear their IDs, especially their uniform, so that the guard will notice the students at which school they are attend-

ing.

" The purpose of this school’s security is di sila basta-basta masudlan ang school ug outsiders. For Id, dili jd siya enough kay ipasapasa ra siya sa other student, unta tanan nga mag wear ug uniform." Perocho said. ID issues were spread throughout the campus. Students were putting a lot of stickers on their faces because of timidity and just to hide their identity, which makes the school's security low and luckily, Ait was prevented immediately.

She said that most of the students were finally putting up with this issue because they were afraid to get caught by the guard again and confiscate their ID to the Principal's Office.

School ID can help guards and the school administration easily identify active students, especially if the school does not have a uniform policy in place. As well, it becomes easy to identify and effec-

tively deal with outsiders.

Along with the fast waves that life conquers, the evolution of the internet moves.

Filipinos are privileged to speak their minds and share them with the world using various media platforms as the Philippine Constitution supports the freedom of speech and youth seem to enjoy the liberty given as Freedom Wall pages keep popping up and becoming the new trend.

The Facebook page called “MOGCHS Shout Out” serves as the voice of the students who want to share their

sentiments about certain people—most of the time, senders are kept from the light. It is still uncertain if the page keeps up with certain standards or terms and conditions.

However, the letters being posted on a public platform include the names of the person they hate, slut-shaming remarks, photos taken without the other party’s consent, etc.

This means the Mental Health of the students who suffered from public shaming is being jeopardized; causing havoc on their studies and adding to the stress given by the 2-year academic gap

due to health reasons.

Thus, Brigada Pagbasa and intensified Learning Recovery Curriculum program arose– to help the students to clutch the 2-year gap deprived of them since the school still reports having non-readers despite being in a junior high school.

Socioeconomics isn’t another story. It is often overlooked since the school is a “public school” – insinuating, marginalized families can afford it because it is government funded. Not knowing that everything boils down to finance. The difference in social status usually

becomes the reason why few students get mistreated or agonized by bullying.

Press Conference was held on Wednesday, February 22.

One of the head’s views bullying as “miscommunication” among students. She also mentioned that bullying isn’t a big problem this school year. True enough, it could be–with the help of the student handbook.

They were also asked about their opinion on various concerns such as dress codes, wearing of uniform, and haircut–

and analyzing the whole duration, it all really boils down to the distribution of the Student Handbook which is apparently still “in the process.”

“Why stay here in MOGCHS when you don’t know the policy?” It seems an easy question to ask for a student who never got to read and grasp the student handbook.

Freshmen from the year 2019, didn’t receive student handbooks during their time and it is no secret that the school has been very persistent to make the students follow the policy–even now. They may presume that modu-

House Bill 10234 also known as The Philippines Architecture Act of 2022 seeks to address the shrinking spirit of the architectural industry. The bill was introduced during the 18th congress. It receives criticism from the affected sector. Architects were suspicious about this bill as it ‘disrespects’ their profession, degrades, and limits the scope of work of the architects. The bill amended ‘some’ of the futile section from the Republic Act 9266 which is known as The Architecture Act of 2004—which is still not enough for them to agree with the bill.

The country acknowledges the importance of every profession, especially architecture in the nation’s building and development. Thus, House Bill 10234 is introduced in the Senate.

The sole reason for the bill is to elevate the said profession but then ‘arkis’ are still questioning how it can elevate when the bill would allow non-architecture graduates to mentor its students.

As stated in Article III Section 21 (E) which roughly translates: the examiner must have completed the 3,900 hours of Diversified Architectural Experience in guidance/mentorship of an Architect or Engineer. According to Article I, Section 3. (A) “Architecture is the art and science profession of planning, designing and realizing building and structures…” It seems like an insult for an Architectural

professor for engineering graduates to lecture their student.

Furthermore, in Article III Section 23 of the bill amended the passing scores for Architectural Licensure Examination from (70%) with no grade lower than sixty percent (60%) in any given subject to (75%) with no grade lower than sixty-five percent (65%) in any given subject; a reasonable measure to produce the best of the best examiners and soon-to-be architects. In addition, applicants who fail to pass the licensure exam three times will no longer be allowed to take the exam.

Lastly, one of the most crucial and controversial parts of the bill is the Article IV Section 35 2 (A) that any public building not exceeding 100.0 square meters does not require the signature or seal of an architect. However, contractors of

the said establishments will still be held accountable for possible damage, if not done correctly.

Due to the said reasons, United Architects of the Philippines Graduate Auxiliary (UAPGACAMANAVA-HILAGA) filed a petition to stop the bill as it ‘contradicts its purpose. A petition from the affected sectors is a great call for reform. Like any other bill, it has its pros and cons. That is why a thorough study of the bill is highly suggested by everyone in the field.

Nevertheless, every profession contributes to every different aspect of the country’s development. As mentioned, the sole goal of the bill is to amend the Republic Act 9266 which is known as The Architecture Act of 2004. It is undeniable that the Architectural Industry is struggling especially in rural

areas due to the lack of access and privilege to consult one, which pushes the architects to raise their concerns because every infrastructure, small or big, deserves quality. It may have altered the futile sections of the previous bill, but a call for conducting a thorough study from the affected profession should be heard because every profession

What can security do in hopes to protect the school from intruders?

Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) becomes a meet up ground, from time to time we get to see students with different ID laces hanging on their necks. This is not safe. Students wear civilian clothes and the minority isn’t consistent in wearing ID. It’s hard to identify intruders within the campus.

Students complain about the

During the press conference in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) administration building, the question about the uniform’s importance within the school campus brought up two answers, Formality and Security. But there are conflicts with this.

The school has expressed that wearing of uniform is encouraged and Cross-dressing isn’t allowed, which creates a lot of conflicts. Especially within the LGTBQIA+ community. And proper haircuts must be observed because of school policies. With regards to the LGBTQIA+ community in MOGCHS, all queries are forwarded to the guidance counselor.

The school is also pushing students to have proper haircuts for males, to maintain formality within the campus._

They recognize the LGBTQIA+ community but why make them follow the school protocols that prevented them from expressing their thoughts?

For formality. While other schools struggle integrating the LGBTQIA+ community into their respective schools, the University of the Philippines (UP) has made a move. UP implemented an inclusive uniform

policy allowing their LGBTQIA+ community to represent themselves as their actual gender. There are several factors why schools struggle to implement the LGBTQIA+ community into their schools.

The Philippines is a mostly Christian and conservative nation.

More than 86% of the Philippines is a Christian nation and they all abide by the bible. Of course, resistance is massive because it did not make comments on homosexuality. And which in return, makes the LGBTQIA+ community in the Philippines a prime target for harassment. Most Christian hardlines are against them too.

While it is a hard topic to cover, MOGCHS should still continue to maintain formality and as well as try and implement the LGBTQIA+ community within. It is a learning institution. Besides, formality and professionalism are observed and expected.

Solidarity in Security

security regarding the outsiders’ easy access to the campus. "What's the use of our IDs if they still let outsiders enter the campus?" according to a Grade 10 student. The security needs to tighten-up, we can't afford to pay the price when harmful incidents rise.

Thus, wearing of IDs at all times is obligatory since wearing school uniforms isn’t mandatory anymore. It’s the only thing that keeps students apart from any intruder, might as well wear it all the time so security guards can monitor the people going in and out of the campus.

"MOGCHS has a lot of students which makes it difficult for the security

personnel to supervise everyone entering the campus but I can assure everyone that we'll do our best to improve aside from that I am also asking for everyone's cooperation,” Mr. Eduardo Kionisala Amper who worked as part of the security in MOGCHS for 36 years stated. Security needs unity. Students should wear their IDs at all times and security should do their job.

Cooperation and strict security for a safe community.

MOGCHS freedom wall: Discrimination for all

Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) freedom wall Facebook account promotes prejudice rather than the essence of voicing opinions under the veil of anonymity and harassment-free.

The said freedom wall is an imitation of the original FB account, created by the Supreme Student Government (SSG) officers of MOGCHS named “Mogchs Confession” that gave students an opportunity to anonymously send confessions, messages, and shout-outs without breaking the rule: bullying is avoided.

Mogchs Confession FB account is supervised and managed. It’s discrimination-free, friendly, and efficient. Inviting other students into joining dance crews and admiration letters are two of the posts seen on the account. These are the ideal qualities of freedom walls and

environment in social media. It doesn’t mean we’re free to post inappropriate and immature content because freedom has its limitations and respect is an implementation.

Meanwhile, MOGCHS freedom wall account is unsupervised since the admin can not be identified. Discrimination posts are evident and this can potentially ruin the school’s reputation. Statements such as “racist”, “red-flag” and “mga ste nga naman” are thrown at Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) students without evidence. Of course, students were upset with the post due to its false

accusation. It’s wrong– and acting like this, especially on social media is avoided as it promotes misinformation. Respect and morality towards others are basic mannerisms that students need. No bullying. Friendly environment. Discrimination-free. Knowing the difference, knowing what’s right.

Freedom has its limitations and respect is an implementation.

Reading, a vital role in one’s success

For a child to grow with knowledge, skills, and to become successful in life, he or she must have the ability to read.

The Covid-19 outbreak created gaps between teachers, students, and the teaching-learning processes. Self Learning Modules (SLMs) adopted alternative means of meeting the needs of learners, still, there are necessities left unaddressed. Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) revealed the results of the Non-Reader Learner’s for the school year 2022-2023: In Grade 7 there are 17 non-readers, Grade 8 has five, none for Grade 9 and five non-readers from Grade 10, a totality of 27 non-readers.

Concerns sparks the ire of many teachers as the majority of non-readers come from lower grades and are falling short of reading benchmarks. The children were not assessed individually prior to entering high school due to online learning and modularization. The main

issue teachers noticed is the inability identifying and recognizing the sounds of the letters.

Many learners in this pandemic do not have access that allow them to learn effectively in person. However, due to the unexpected pandemic outbreak, schools are under pressure to increase literacy.

The first step in resolving the aforementioned issues was to separate students who couldn’t read from those who could. They have special classes and an hour session in the reading clinic for the non-readers taught by the reading coordinators.

The Progress Chart has shown that the Non-Readers from MOGCHS really had a big improvement. May the parents and guardians, as well as elemen tary teachers, help the children acquire the fundamentals of education because they’re the hope for the next generation.

MOGCHS should allow students to try and let its LGBTQIA+ express their opinions, thoughts, and emotions.

Pitik: Invasion of one’s privacy

Taking a picture without consent is stealing someone’s privacy.

“Pitik’’ is a term used to describe a random photographer taking pictures of strangers at random times and is posted on Facebook. It’s been normalized not only in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) but in other schools as well.

The majority of people pose for the camera and share their photos on the internet but a minority of people felt uncomfortable and did not know that someone took a photo of them.

“Dili ko aware nga gi picture ko ana nga time [and] dli raba gyud ko ganahan picture-picturan ko without knowing tas i-post sa social media nga walay permission nako, lain kaayu sa feeling,” stated by a Grade 10 student in MOGCHS. It’s undeniably scary. Walking on the campus and without noticing, a bullet passes into your body as a random person pulls the trigger on their camera.

Pictures such as walking, sitting at campus parks, and even buying at the canteen are taken. Even a student teacher’s photo was taken without him knowing. It’s not right. We’re in school and as everyone says “school is our second home,” think again because “home” means we are safe and comfortable, if it’s otherwise then

Students take pictures of someone attractive without consent for their pleasure. Taking it way too far, some post on social media in hopes of finding that person. This is a common occurrence and it

Ironically, no law is established that states taking pictures without consent is illegal except if it involves voyeurism. Criminalization of taking photos of a person without consent is a must, it invades our privacy just like trespassing.

Mental Health Issues: Call for Empathy

Students need to feel supported and have their mental health needs acknowledged to flourish and succeed.

Students need to feel supported and have their mental health needs acknowledged to flourish and succeed.

The Covid-19 epidemic had an impact on how each of us views mental health. It was extremely tough for everyone to be apart from friends and family and to stay alone for the sake of everyone’s physical health.

The prevalence of anxiety and sadness increased dramatically, and we had to learn how important it is to prioritize mental health above everything else.

Via online schoolworks, students face difficulty in keeping up with their studies; many juggle domestic responsibilities with their education or struggle accessing the internet or a device.

It was absurd and a mistake on the part of the community to assume that there wouldn’t be a period of transition during which pupils would require more understanding and assistance than ever.

Students have struggled with their mental health in the past and still do. For a kid dealing with a mental illness, being given grace and extensions in one class while failing and falling behind in another is not helpful.

The pandemic underscored how crucial it is to prioritize mental health above everything else. In order for students to succeed, balance is needed.

The method for handling unique circumstances should be made simpler and more accessible for everyone, thus student accessibility services should think about restructuring. Youngsters can no longer feel alone because of their mental health difficulties; it is simply unacceptable.

Charter Change: Not a priority

Why push Cha-cha amidst the economic crisis?

Amending the 1987 Philippine Constitution became the talk of House Representatives under Marcos administration. Revision of the said law is a gamble, it’s risky considering the time and necessity in the country.

Although, amending the Constitution can unlock the doors to investors and by which the country needs amidst economic crises. But current issues in the Philippines can be disregarded for a specific period of time when polls begin. Knowing the priorities is a must, we can’t just hold on to the plan and give all what we don’t have in the first place: money.

The country is on a budget due to economic issues that are yet to be solved. And the cost of cha-cha-related poll exercises is approximately P28 billion. Clearly, there’s no room for more problems and chacha is not an exception.

Inflation rate as its finest, with 8.7%. The country is facing an increase in the general price level of goods and services in the economy. This should be addressed, instead of Charger change.

Poverty alleviation. 5.6 million Filipino families living in poverty in 2022. Rubbing salt into the wound is clearly not a solution, Charter change will make it worse.

The country’s situation clearly states that Charger change is not a priority.

As It Was Just

Adjust

The familiarity of the sultry, crowded environment touches my skin as I search for an available chair during the Division's School Press Conference opening program; despite being a competition, I knew I wanted to make the most of the program; spoiler alert: I could not really.

The 2019's DSPC was the last conference before the pandemic surged, two years of unfortunate inactivity passed before it returned. As someone who experienced both 2019 and 2023's DSPC, this is how it changed.

Like a slope, from the top, its preparation downgraded.

The sched ule was in great vagary, scattered all over the place that you may

associate DSPC 2023 a bit with students' groans. Individual events' contests had to be moved for another 30 minutes and the winners' enhancement training too was implemented a day late due to varying requests by the trainers. It felt too unprepared and soon the shaking nerves of the competition were overshadowed by the scorching weather of DSPC. The group events' contests were conducted at the same time as the individual events' awarding, aside from that, another flaw was how rushed the

The smell of a newly-ironed uniform constantly tingles my nose. The feeling was familiar yet so unfamiliar when I walked through the busy corridors with my now-melted chocolate bar.

The kid is not sure what to expect on her first day as a high schooler–I thought it was spectacular which was indeed for the books but no one really did prepare me for the traumatizing,

awarding felt. It was not what we call thrilling or "pa-suspense.” It evinced sheer pressure.

The certificates and medals were not another story. In all seriousness, Cogon Market sells the same exact medal for less than PHP30.00, and the certificates were too plain for that event, which note, is a big deal for most of us.

I believe that the pandemic's seemingly paralytical changes made DSPC seem like a freshly introduced conference in this century. It was yet anoth-

and mischievous hands of my teacher.

It wasn’t new that teachers like HIM exist; a student journalist is very much exposed to such crime.

Most of the students are exploited to do such things because of the academic validation the culture imposes.

It is a shame, especially in their profession, however society failed to recognize how power plays a big role in such situations.

Power tripping is very common in every field–and as a student, wherein you are at the bottom of the food chain, pretty

Cramming: Factor of anxiety

If there’s one practice that I’d like to un learn, it would be a habit of mine: treating deadlines as a submitting period rather than a time limit.

In doing tasks face-to-face from having face-to-screen, it was a rough tran sition. I struggled in meeting the deadlines and it was hard to keep up with the fastpaced learning. It was new to me. Even though I already encountered it before the pandemic outbreak.

There are days that I’m productive and honestly, it feels great but the only problem is that I’m not consistent. On other days, whenever a task is given to me, I tend to not do it and say “unya na, taas pa bitaw ang deadline.” And I feel awful afterwards. I hate it when I’m rushed but why am I continuing this habit?

Do you know what LGBTQIA+ is? And what does it stand for in society?

Many generations have passed and with the new society emerging today, things have also changed. My mind still doesn't fully understand why topics such as LGBTQIA+ are not given importance in society. Elders being egocentric, thinking that only men and women have the right to access every opportunity.

LGBTQIA+ is an organization for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and

Asexual that empowers others and is united by common culture, and social movements. Commemorates pride, diversity, sexuality, and fighting for equality.

As I grew up, my rights and privileges were disregarded. I wanted to have a voice and come out in my closet but it didn't happen because of fear of being abandoned. Put on a sturdy shoe for a walk of discrimination. Feeling the lack of diversity and diverse representation. Why does this make us less of a person? How can they be so cruel about it?

Deeper than that, the reality of being part of the rainbow community makes me sad. My heart melts as ice due to the heat of discrimination we receive. Agony and pain are emotions we feel. Being always excluded. Fight-

ing for “nothing.” Contrary to what they think, we just want to enjoy the freedom we long for. To live without discrimination, pure love, and respect are given. Despite all the things that happen, the colorful community continues to fight and stand for what is right. Fighting for your right is something you should be proud of. Coming out of your shell and becoming who you want to be would be the greatest fulfillment in life. So, my question to you, are you willing to stand and fight for yourself? Or you will just ignore it and do nothing?

er adjustment to be made after Covid-19.

I have always associated the DSPC with the funny staredowns by elementary students and friendly competitions. Cheering for your winning schoolmate you barely even know and vice versa. Even if it was only supporting who you needed to support, the participants' cheers and screams felt too genuine. This DSPC may not be perfect and may not be on par with my expectations, but I understand the adjustments necessary after two years.

much, a little show of dominance will surely intimidate you.

It is indeed a sad reality of the Philippines’ Education System however, it is undeniably hard to live in the Philippines and sometimes, due to financial constraints, students usually fall into such an agenda to save themselves from the hassle of repeating the year.

Despite the blues, the Department of Education ensures to take that sexual harassment in schools will be taken seriously following the Bacoor National Highschool Teachers being allegedly predators.

Cramming is a fundamental factor of anxiety and I believe that prioritizing mental health means doing our responsibility. We can’t stop thinking of our undone tasks, that will make us more anxious than doing it. I believe that time management is one way to fight against cramming.

Are you willing to stand and fight for yourself? Or you will just ignore it and do nothing?

Social Status Doesn’t Matter

As the world slowly evolves, changes in all aspects are inevitable. One of the foundational pieces that social fluency is built on, is the concept of status. It’s crucial in today’s era to follow trends, to adapt in order to avoid seeming out of date, and to maintain a high social position in order to be seen and recognize.

frequently identify you as wealthy if you own a large house, a car, money, a new model phone, or any luxury branded items. These are just the basics for determining whether or not you are truly wealthy.

Life is quite unfair to people who are just in the lower class or ordinary people who are just existing, but if you’re rich, people will hail at you, bow at you, serve you, and recognize you, people will not discriminate against you, look down on you, or any difficulties that people on the lower class face.

Never underestimate one’s current life situation, whether it’s physical, emotional, or financial. Nobody wants to live a life where they are always pretending to be someone

We don’t live in a world where everyone has the same opportunities and experiences in life and everything is just entirely neutral. People in our society have a variety of abilities, but we mostly rely on our capacity to interact with others through sight.

As a result, we are overly concerned with our appearance and how others will perceive us, even though they are merely regular individuals, unlike those who lead high-status lives, people worry about what others will think of them.

Hence, we spend a great deal of time and money tweaking our image to make it more fitting to others.

People quickly judge a person based on their clothes, possessions, and the items they use. People

Like a Splendid Love

Love is a difficult topic for all of us, even the older generation does not know what love is. But one thing is for sure: we experience love in different forms. And love interests among teens are frankly different.

According to the urban dictionary, a love interest is about two people, usually at young ages, who test each other with romantic advances and have feelings for each other, but do not actually commit to each other.

It is popular nowadays to tell someone what you truly feel towards them and also say they do not want to be in a committed relationship with you. It is confusing.

Honestly, I had to understand why some people are like this since I have experienced this type of situation before. In my understanding, some are like this because they are still not ready to be in a relationship, or they do not see you as the person that they expect, and they like you, but they do not want to be in a relationship with you.

It’s ironic, some say these phrases, and then you will

Academic Validation: Chain of chore and obligation

At the age of five, a little girl in kindergarten experienced firsthand how advanced her classmates were and how quick they were in doing their work, and that little girl is me.

Since then, I take little steps toward the brilliant spotlight of praise and to the well-known standard that we know as “academic excellence.

” If I were to be asked about the factors as to why, at such

a young age, I wanted to excel, it would be to fit in with classmates who are quick-witted and aside from that, I wanted to paint prideful smiles on my parents' faces. What the teachers demand us to do, I do it with grace and passion.

If I were asked to play basketball, play flute or viola, run around, clean the room, teach my classmates, and more so, if it were for the grades, I

hear someone point out that the person who confessed to you wants to have a relationship with someone else. It is also disbelieving that they say something that is meaningful in that moment but in the future what they said becomes meaningless since their words did not correspond to their actions. Which could also be one of the reasons why they do not truly believe that they can be with this person.

Everyone has their own reasons for why some people do not actually commit to each other, knowing that they like each other.

Firstly, since teenage years are between 13 and 19 years old, committing to a relationship at an early age will be difficult since at these ages they are still building their careers, to become future adults.

Secondly, they do not see themselves in a committed relationship with this person, but they love the bond that they have with the person. They call this platonic love.

Thirdly, they just want to tell the person what they truly feel, but they do not

would do it all.

Now that I’m of age to reflect, all I could say is that “academic validation sometimes teaches students to pull themselves down to their limits.” Which is a sad reality that we face.

The education system should have a little compassion for the students and should try to put themselves in their situations so better activities and suitable performances can then be tasked to execute by students.

In which students wouldn’t have to be hard on themselves just to be academically validated and praised. The system should focus on shaping students to find their own aspects in which they will prosper and improve, not by giving arm-

else in order to live up to social expectations. We must keep in mind that we were not all created equal, that we have differences, and that there is always opportunity for trying again if we are having trouble achieving the achievement we desire.

One thing we must keep in mind ,is that we should not be concerned with what others think. We need to start minding our own business and focus on your life and goals, no one should ever tell you what kind of life you should have or where you should go because this is your life to live and no one else’s.

want to have a relationship with you. Since they are prioritizing something that is more important to them, like themselves.

They have many reasons why they are like that. But in order to understand why ‘that’, you must ask them.

If you are in a love interest situation, you must have a clear understanding for both parties of what you honestly see in your situation. Clarity is the key, be honest with the person. If honesty is not implied, this will hurt the person who is not aware.

Lastly, understand and accept that the person does not want to have a relationship with you but loves the idea of being close to you, just like a splendid love song. Cherish that company. Mean what you say.

As teenagers, we should enjoy your moments since having a committed relationship means you have another person waiting on the other end. Know what’s best for you.

We confess because that is what we genuinely feel. However, Confess, but do not commit. True love waits!

loads of assignments to the point that students cut long hours of their sleep.

Nonetheless, it still makes sense why this nation’s education system is hard for students like such because the nation is one of the 3rd world countries.

Besides, the only way to lift the nation’s rank up is to train better leaders–the students–for the future. But perhaps the training for it switches into another route? Leaving negative effects on the students.

For me, who is struggling financially while still choosing to study, keeping up with the education system that is monetarily driven is apparently hard.

I have to work my way from the scraps and up

Student handbook should be one of the school’s priorities.

Without those experiences, I would not be this capable and independent of a student. But no. Those equate to blindness and resiliency about academic validation which should stop before many students impose self-harm due to it.

Also it’s quite alarming how students engaging in social media are using academic validation as their new humor, when it’s quite not funny and rather uncomfortable to some.

As someone who is also surpassing the hurdles of this education system, I wanted to use my courage and voice to speak up and

Blind Legally

The symbol of justice has always been a blindfolded woman with a sword in one hand and a scale in the other, but now it seems to have its hands tied and the scale of fairness has weighed down on injustice. If the law is the truth’s eye, why does it appear to have gone blind?

For the past years, the age of consent has always been as early as twelve. It was a huge hurdle for a 16-year-old rape victim who goes by the name ‘Jenny’. Her virginity was taken away by a relative when she was 13 and attempted to sue charges against the assailant but was immediately declined for the man had said it was consensual.

“The lawyer was the one to set my uncle free because I refused his attempt to touch me. I didn’t know anything back then, I thought it was not a big deal so I said yes to my uncle, I couldn’t do anything anyway, he’s already on top of me.” The lawyer, who happened to be a family friend, extended his hand to handle the case but ended up being the one to silence Jenny’s pleas. Jenny claimed that the lawyer has been maliciously staring daggers at her and was vocal about complimenting her ‘curves’. He was the one who attempted to molest but still had the audacity to turn the tables and side with the rapist all because he got rejected for such filthy action. Her words were used against her by her legal counsel. Saying it was something consensual between the two parties despite the strong disagreement on the victim’s side. Threatened her to remain quiet about the molestation and even went to extreme lengths as to gaslight the child into withdrawing the case, which, unfortunately, she did—and that was it, case closed.

Under Republic Act No. 8533 or the 1997 Anti-Rape Law, a sexual act is considered statutory rape when the victim is under 12 years old or

is mentally unstable. That also means a 12-year-old child and above can give sexual consent anyway. A report way back in 2015 conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) revealed that the minimum age of 12 set by the Philippines stands as the lowest in Southeast Asia and the second lowest worldwide.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) states that from the years 2015 to 2017, aged 14 to 17 are likely to be victims of rape and incestuous activities. A twelveyear-old is typically in 6th grade and has barely, or has not yet gone to puberty. Several studies have proven that the rationality of the mind of a 12-year-old and their understanding of the consequences of their actions have not yet developed and will fully develop by the age of 25. Her body may have developed at an early age but her mind hasn’t yet. Victim-blaming is not a card that should be used against a child victim. A degree holder, specifically a lawyer, is bending justice only because he wasn’t fed on by his lustrous desires. It’s always “Age is just a number”, but a great number of underaged victims aren’t getting the justice they deserve all because of this outrageous age of consent.

The scale of fairness appears to have weighed down the value of truth as the sword of power seized Jenny’s last hope of justice. Now that the pleas of the young victims are finally heard and the age of consent has lifted, she still hopes that there will be a day the symbol of justice finally obtains an eye to uncovering the truth under the blindfold and the lie it hides.

Misogyny is still alive and still gripping more women victims up until now. Women are still experiencing physical and verbal harassment and continuous discrimination by men. Due to this prejudicial treatment faced by them, people— including women -- had the internalized beliefs that women should abide by the norms and expectations that men have built.

No matter how a woman digs their path to stay away from the loop that was fostered by men and a one-sided society. Women would still glimpse their feet walking on the same path that can not be dodged. Bringing them back to the loop where they have been before. Even in current times and as opposed to the remote past, society drives people to play certain gender roles, contributing to gender disparities.

In the 20th century, the idea of a woman only staying at home while satisfying the needs of her husband was highly romanticized in such advertisements, films, and magazines. That it became the standardized concept for women. More than that, it is believed that a woman’s body and physiology are considered as weak as they undergo menstrual cycles and pregnancy, hence making them think that women are unsuitable for pursuing careers. All of this leads to the double standards and disparagement of women where validity is only open to men.

When a deed is done by a man, it is most likely to be praised and applauded. On the contrary, a woman would instead be doubted and criticized. In

the recent presidential elections that took place in the Philippines, two candidates; Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. a man, and Leni Robredo, a woman were considered the biggest rivals in the seat. Even though Marcos was known for his controversial background, he officially won against Leni Robredo who has a lot more credentials and cleaner records. In several interviews about why people did not vote for Leni, few claimed that her being a ’woman’ is not seemly good for being a president and saying that she’s too soft for the position.

In this dimmed patriarchal system, women have always been oppressed but the voice of a woman was represented “I’m so sick of running as fast as I can, wonder if I’d get there quicker if I was a man” The Man by Taylor Swift, disseminates the last dig. That describes the whole loop of women’s deceitful fate back and forth to those men who can devour their rights, but women can not.

Men have locked women in a barless cycle they have manufactured. In a darkened, barless jail, the society played out a loop. And for women, it is ceaseless agony in misogyny that takes a length of time to bury in oblivion. Consequently, it has been consistent who devoured and depraved women’s rights. To confront the difficulties, a woman, the leader in all sectors of life, is relevant.

In the end, the last man standing is a woman.

Mrs. Moñez has been working in the field for 4 years. She’s been involved in many hand-working areas, namely, as a nail expert or manicurist, and finally became a masseuse; her current and longest job. Just like anybody, she works to support her family.

After grabbing the opportunity plastered on a placard, along with her husband as a tricycle driver, both have been able to cope and provide for their family with needs. Mrs. Monez earns an amount of ten thousand pesos each month.

With years in the field and smart budgeting, she was able to let her eldest

daughter graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. Her second and third children are college students at Xavier Ateneo de Cagayan.

Before reaching the path that gave her abundance, Mrs. Moñez together with her family, suffered on days when everything did not go to plan and lack of income that barely provided essentials. They’ve been in a household without electricity—only candles and themselves as one’s shoulder to lean on.

“Sometimes, I lose hope but I remember my family”, Mrs. Monez stated. A mother’s love is unrivaled, it drove her to seek hope for the family she created. It made her stand, and it became a way for her to reach a milestone.

She became one of the most in-demand masseuses by customers of Ragaa Thai Massage located in Divisoria. She was able to gain more

Kagaymamasahista Unknown Struggles

During the surge of COVID-19, Mrs. Moñez also suffered a financial loss within the first four months of the pandemic. Massage therapy was suspended due to protocols.

Relying only on her husband’s tricycle for their living and receiving help from the Social Security System (SSS), they were still able to get through that phase.

After the first four months, she was able to resume work and immediately strive to support their family.

A mother and a breadwinner all in one are just a few of the spectacular aspects that Mrs. Monez possesses. Working is significantly difficult—let alone being an attentive mom who only looks up to the future of her children.

Lives are connected like threads on loom as the chain of struggles. But, even though faced with peals of doubts, gaze etched above an intricate web below.

life in a wheelchair

As the day lays down a blanket of darkness in the sky, people will scrunch to their comfort zone and rest, knowing that whenever they close their eyes there will always be a light sky that awaits. But, it takes a long loop of the night for us to see the impending dawn—the pandemic took so much from us that it veiled us in darkness. What does it take to be a teacher?

They teach to inspire—their lessons spread like wildfire. “Lazy” hardly befits most of them as they take on countless responsibilities. As soon as the pandemic struck, it left the world stuck by the bitter effects of its long-standing dilemma. The economy is crumbling, people are struggling. Emie Balacuit, a forty-two-year-old high school teacher is not an exception as she encounters diverse difficulties as the face-to-face classes resume.

“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart” was always in the memoir of 14-year-old Emie everwhen she glimpses her future career. As she grows and achieves her dream she then realizes what it takes to be a teacher. However, the pandemic leaves a wound in the student’s minds and it develops hard as a rock that only one person could only make tender— a teacher.

The transitional learning is a blast shift for both students and teachers which casts a pall of gloom on Emie’s students.

“They almost forgot the basic lesson on each subject,” Emie utters as she fixes and observes her students with her gaze. Not just her students — the Philippines education in general —over 80% of Filipino students did not reach the minimum level of proficiency in reading. This brought education to the swamp of crisis.

“I decided to take education and I never regret my decisions up to now. I super love molding young people. Helping them grow and reach their ambitions,” the act of giving up is not on Emie’s bucket of words as she is full of vivid hopes for the nation’s hope.

Emie also encounters difficulties before, using their cutting-edge gadgets for online and modular classes, the puzzled teacher struggles to keep up. But, with the help of Teacher Emie’s wand–like chalk and a spell of her tenderness, hardened hope will soften once more.

However, now that face-to-face fully resumed, Emie is now facing another exacerbated difficulty left by the pandemic. The scars caused by the epidemic have poisoned student life, and it is in a long loop of healing; mentality, attitude, and reading comprehension.

To battle the war between the education system and failing students, the new administration exerted effort in resolving this another crisis in the country as face-to-face classes have resumed. The Department of Education immediately created the Learning Recovery Curriculum (LRC), a framework for catch-up activities.

In the end, Emie finds the answer to what it takes to be a teacher with simple words — “Seeing my students successfully fulfill their goals in life.” Be a tender teacher, be the source of their hope.

Teacher Emie willfully shows her burning passion for teaching as she continues to strive regardless of what trials and tribulations the transitional learning has brought upon her. She aches, sometimes breaks, and she makes mistakes, but what stands out is—she knows what it takes.

Death Defying Driver

All it took was a drop of a catastrophic pandemic to change our promising lives to its extent, but we could not withhold the fact that the heaviest medical burdens lie on the attentive hands of the frontline.

People often depict ‘front-liners’ as doctors, nurses, and any other medical professionals—disregarding the depth of the medical field and its workers who make a living out of a miserly amount. These assumptions lead to overlooking the dull spotlight of extensive health careers.

At the age of 27, Rully Linonhay currently works as an ambulance driver at the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department (CDDRMD). He has been earning a short amount of nine-thousand pesos each month. Rully’s job as an ambulance driver is as hard as it is in his household; considering the fact that their small-scale income is as tight as their financial plans.

“Budgeting our income is hard because it is not enough for us”, Rully frankly said as he continues to share about the underpaid frontliners.

According to iPrice research, the salary gap between health workers in the Philippines and neighboring countries with a similar cost of living, such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, is substantial. Malaysian practitioners earn 178 % more than Filipino medical technologists, whereas registered nurses in Thailand and Indonesia earn 95 % more than Filipino nurses. This demonstrates the Philippines’ bleak approach to the medical field in the country.

The nine-thousand pesos salary for each month is hardly enough for him to make ends meet, but that does not stop Rully from striving by driving.

ORDer UP!

From food cooking to food delivering, this is how a chef-turned-delivery driver overcame pandemic problems.

From the heat of the kitchen to the heat of the roads, Jaime Marcelino Jr. worked as a luxury hotel chef prior to the pandemic.

He worked as a chef in a Japanese restaurant where he learned to make Japanese dishes. This served as a stepping stone in his career in the culinary world. Subsequently, he then worked as a chef in a high-end restaurant and made delicious cuisines. Up until the COVID-19 pandemic where millions were affected and lost their jobs, including Marcelino is halting his career and along with the Asian restaurant he worked in.

“When our operations were affected, I thought of finding a new job. I had a co-worker that worked as a rider for Foodpanda on the side, so I asked him to help me out,” Marcelino said.

Looking for opportunities to work for some time and being unable to pay for his family’s bills for an extended period of time, Marcelino was left with no choice but to leave his career as a chef and

Firsthand employees like Rully inevitably experience and see the diversity of people as they embark on their career journey. Oftentimes, as they rescue patients, they face encounters that have their own unprecedented stories that will mark front liners for a lifetime.

“Everytime I work, every individual is unique…I can notice their characters”, Rully stated with amusement in his tone. venture as a Foodpanda rider.

Food-delivery apps have seen a significant increase since the start of the pandemic as more people prefer the convenience and efficiency of ordering out. With the curbs on social contact, social distancing, and lockdowns, the demand for food-delivery drivers has risen, providing options for individuals who are struggling to find a job during the pandemic.

Marcelino admits that his earnings as a Foodpanda rider are enough to cover his family’s necessities as well as his wife’s online studies and his daughter’s education. The motorcycle he uses to

commute to work has been converted into a delivery van. As he leaves home every day to make his rounds around the city, he uses it to bring food. When asked if he ever gets tired of working long hours, Marcelino says he draws his motivation from his family.

He felt compelled to share their experience and employment because they were facing the same problems and experiences as other delivery drivers. To achieve a decent salary for their family, they endured the heat of the roads, angry clients, traffic, and delays. Marcelino intends to use the money he earns from Foodpanda to start his own business in the future.

The uncertainties and consequences of the pandemic have significantly impacted the lives of many workers and professionals across the country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unemployment has risen over the past two years and shows no signs of stopping. However, as COVID-19 limitations are lifted and more people are allowed to return to work, we may see a glimpse of normalcy among the unusual events of the previous two years.

Mistaking emotion for a mental notion

Façade for Sadness

There have been a wide variety of mental health conditions, and sadness is not classified as one. In this worrisome world of woke people, how do you break it to them without bursting a bubble?

Being mentally unstable since the age of 9, Jerica Salon already knew she had it in her—although it was not talent that she has, but a clinical diagnosis of Persistent Depressive Disorder. “If depression is personified, it would most likely be me.” She joked. For someone like Jerica who battles with her mind 24/7, it has been a chore for her to listen to people’s whims about depression and other mental health problems which according to her, was just a fruit of self diagnosis. “It’s so unfair having to read about their posts and how they seem to showcase depression.”

Pertaining to her social media mutual

Disguise of Red

negative trait toward anything. And there is no exception in politics. Red flags of a politician include abuse of authority, deaf to issues, uneducated, liar, violator of human rights, corrupt, sexist, ex-convict, and criminal. Ironically, they have been hailed in the position to observe the nation.

“Ok ra, dli man iyang gi eskwelahan ang importanti kung wala siya naghuman, ug bakak lang ang iyang giingon. Ang naa siyay kabalan sa politiko, naa siyay experience ug naa siyay pagdumala sa Pilipinas ang importanti” (It’s all right, even if he didn’t go to school, didn’t complete, and lied about it. The most important thing is that he has experience and has governance in the Philippines) uttered by a 40-year-old voter, named Inday. A woman who leaned her trust and voted for her presidential bet, shared her thoughts on how she blindly ignored the red flag.

The Philippines has masses of problems lined up. Poverty is one of the biggest problems in the Philippines. Slow to moderate economic growth and failure to grow the agriculture sector are some of the reasons why this problem remains a challenge.

During the 2015 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), the poverty rate among Filipinos was 21.6 percent. On the other hand, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) estimated the population’s poverty rate increased to 23.7 percent in the first half of 2021, up from 21.1 percent in the same period in 2018. This translates to an additional 3.9 million Filipinos living in poverty.

This has been the proof of ignoring the red flag politicians could lead. Which evokes that the Philippines has not been out of the swamp, and is still a third-world country.

A senior high schooler, Mae, who strives for good governance said, “ In the first place, good educational background and a clean slate of criminal records is a big requirement for one to be trusted as a leader. Many of his voters have spoken about him not getting that degree but still, they just turned a blind eye to that.” Mae added,

“This isn’t subjective, but rather objective enough to say those politicians and their red flags and lies couldn’t make the country any less good.”

Mae has been aware of their disguise and unleashed her remarks.

If the positions of subterfuge protectors scream to snippet holes to their own country, in able to obtain their aim. Hence, a vivid future of the Philippines is out of contact.

Despite their best efforts to conceal their red flags, there will always be an eagle-eyed citizen who will spot them. The monochrome appearance that people thought was intended to point to yell more assurance, to escort their safety, is a disguise. Behind it is a color red that can point the nation to oblivion.

hand, depression is a mental illness and can affect your daily regimen or might as well, severely eat into your ticking time of life if left untreated. They are not a synonym of the other nor can they be considered as two sides of a coin however a lot of people, most especially the present youth, seem to have misunderstood sadness from the latter. ‘Sad’ is an easy word, so why use a complex term such as a clinical condition to describe a fleeting emotion?

“First, they get sad, of course. Next is they search it up on the web and then viola, self-diagnosing takes place.” Jerica said. According

advice from a professional who refuted their self-diagnosis.

Depression is a general term and the mother of all the other mental related illnesses. Depression, Bipolar Disorder and being a psychopath is definitely the holy trinity of most common self-diagnosed mental conditions according to American Journal of Medicine, which are actually pretty serious but are now being vastly romanticized.

There is a visible border from one’s emotion from a mental condition, and it takes a bubble to burst for people to understand that depression as an aesthetic will never work, better

Insecurity veil as purity

Once the impurities untangle from someone’s words, a girl’s denouement of hurdles casts a blanket of insecurities on herself.

Faisah, her pen name, a high school student who has an ocean-wide passion for studying, had been tagged and accused as a “cheater.” Her friends’ disguised purity blinded her, not knowing those little white compliments veiled with insecurity.

Every day Faisah is burning her eyebrows till dawn —a half-night owl during the night and halfstudent during the day, a typical teenage cycle. It is usual for the young girl to stay up late at night to

review her lessons, even if it’s a gamble on her health; in exchange for high marks, all would be fine.

Pandemic lockdown Filipinos in a barless dim room. As well the student’s knowledge, they were nowhere to be found as they got stuck in the epidemic era.

In this new world of tech, social media for school has been famous, like Brainly, Photomath, Quillbot, Grammarly, and Facebook. Many students cheat with these to have

easy access to higher grades. Some students once accused her of using these apps to get a high rank. Her hands started to shake as a cold wind passed her, and she closed her eyes. It was a loud silence and agony of emotion when she found out her friend’s group chat in messenger was talking about her.

“Bright ra siya kay gi Google ra niya, dagko og kuha sa test kay nag cheat sa exam.”

She was puzzled that she couldn’t take those words without her tears drooling down her cheeks. Her name became the talk of the town in everyone’s group chat.

“Wala man ko nag cheat, kung insecure sila sa ila score mag study sila,” Faisah told her teacher. Faisah’s eyes widen as the black screen flashes in front of her, causing her to realize her friends displayed purity disguised as insecurity. herself.

Nestle promotes health in MOGCHS

Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) has yet to bring home the bacon as they participate in the 2023 Nestle Wellness competition.

The Nestle Wellness Campus Program’s objective was to instruct parents and kids on how to obtain a healthy diet starting in 2013.

Since then, the program has changed from emphasizing healthy eating to emphasizing the importance of instilling vital healthy

behaviors that will drastically lower the incidence of childhood and adolescent malnutrition.

A total of four programs—Cook Off, Dancercise, Poster Making, and Healthy Habits—were held. They seek to keep kids’ nutritional and mental health following a three-year break.

Safety Last

Observing water slowly losing its essence is like safety protocols without followers—it leads only to destruction.

The components that make up water – hydrogen and oxygen – are never lost, only separated. But, if humans fail to follow the protocol, and add an agent to separate these two noble gasses from each other, we run the risk of losing all three components. Leading to an alarming state that is now an underlying concern in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School.

Health protocols have been a major concern for every individual that gives them confidence in visiting places. The health protocols that everyone sees as a savior and act to control the spread were barely observed in MOGCHS during the Grade 10 level moving up pictorial. In almost a month-long activity for the students in the Grade 10 level, safety protocols received the bare minimum focus from the students and other personnel involved. Unexpectedly, the implementation and observance by the school nurse devastatingly turned out to be only an error in its statement. There were no health protocols followed during the yearbook pictorial activity for their moving up a souvenir. The presence of alcohol and sanitation stations has cast a shadow on the pictorial. The checking of vaccination cards of students was not regulated. The expected assistance by the classroom adviser to help control the students was scarcely noticed and some were nowhere to be found. This leads to a more alarming state, as COVID-19 is still a threat despite being under Alert Level 1, and the wide expanse of face-toface classes.

“No choice but (to) simply ignore the reckless actions by the

give students the right meals and nourishment their bodies require. 250 pupils who were recognized as being undernourished were able to receive the required nutrition from vegetables including eggplant, okra, malunggay, and alugbati thanks to the school’s “Gulayan sa Paaralan.” The program still serves students twice a week from 10 to 11 AM. in the Cookery Room of the TLE Building with funding from the administration’s budget.

Dancing the chunk away

To compete in the Nestle Wellness Competition and reach the ideal Body Mass Index (BMI), 15 pupils from the Special Program in Arts (SPA) and 10 teachers joined the activity with the dance “Indayog.” They won their category, taking first place as a result. According to Ma’am Joje M. Dahan, SPA Grade 7 adviser and competition representative, the

exercise is being used with Grade 7 and Grade 10 students during MAPEH time. Although MOGCHS was unable to advance to the national stage, the school continues to employ the dance routines to uplift and preserve the wellbeing of its students.

Answer to Aware

According to a survey, 95% of parents participate by responding to worksheets provided by advisers containing healthy habits, preparing the precise healthy meals, and other tasks related to the child’s welfare. In addition, the administration of MOGCHS conducts a documentary by including “Parafit’’ as a module to involve parents not just for the program’s sake but also focusing on their children’s health. In order to ensure that parents are provided with effective care, it is important for them to give equal attention to both their children’s nutrition and the importance of their

child’s whole focus on their studies.

Respect to Apply Reuse, reduce, and recycle.

It is currently being used as a component of the program that encourages students to purchase beverages and snacks in Tupperware and tumblers of their own. Namely, to decrease expenses and get rid of plastic waste surrounding the school. As a way to inspire pupils to follow proper recycling practices, Science and Technology Engineering (STE) students developed a novel method to separate plastics in a trash can shaped like a globe. MOGCHS is attempting to ease the burden on its students’ wellness in order to ensure their futures, even as they wait for the results of the national competition on ‘Healthy Habits.’

students,” Judy Rey C. Jumamoy, the assigned teacher for the pictorial of the students, said.

CANTEEN VENDORS AT GREATER RISK

Following safety, protocols are valuing the lives of others. After successfully getting the chance to sell inside the campus, the canteen vendors, who were also present during the whole month-long pictorial of the Grade 10 students, are at a higher risk. Compared to how the health protocols during the pictorial were inadequate to health protocol standards, the canteen vendors adhere to each and every health protocol for the safety of both the seller and buyer. The school is taking the risk without proper preparation and consideration of how their decisions would affect others. Dr.

Nenita R. Bacol, MOGCHS school nurse eagerly stated how strict they have been during these challenging times, with all the requirements to be observed by the vendors, namely the hairnet, mask, gloves, and sanitizing every item after the vendors finish selling. It is still of no help since the school is lacking and the people are not valuing the health protocols.

UNPREPARED ENVIRONMENT, RISKY DEVELOPMENT

Safety is said to be paramount on campus. The safety of everyone must be valued and is a major concern.

MOGCHS preparations and safety precautions, as of the moment, are now said to be committed to ensuring that all of the students, teachers, and visitors remain safe from harm.

The guards assigned to check everyone entering the school were aware and are strict when it comes

to letting the students enter the school premises. No face mask, no entry. However, countless teachers and students who are working and visiting the school are still against the statement that the school is prepared.

As stated by the teachers, after following the memorandum given by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones to prepare the classrooms for the New Normal Setup, the school directly complied on this. Earlier this year, for the classroom and school evaluation, they spent their own money on the materials that should be bought to ensure a safe classroom. It took them over two months to become fully equipped with the things and present a properly responsible classroom that inspects and values individuals’ health.

As the school anticipates possible face-to-face classes, all preparations made for the classrooms, health protocols, sanitation items that must be present, and overall preparations are yet to be seen and observed on the campus.

With over 200 plus classrooms in MOGCHS, not all are considered to be ready. Only two classrooms are expected to experience faceto-face classes again. Plenty of classrooms have been acquired which is said to be inappropriate as it lets the bacteria stick to them. The overall compliance of the school is inconsistent and vulnerable. Some classrooms fail the IATF standards. Individuals entering the campus are irresponsible and not aware of the virus.

There is an underlying risk for all personnel entering the school premises. There are only a few that were prepared and mostly unprepared.

DOH to provide more than 1M

The Department of Health (DOH) has come to the conclusion that bivalent vaccines should also be used to prevent coronavirus disease.

The COVAX facility offers bivalent vaccinations which target both the Covid-19 major variant and the Omicron sub-variants. The DOH claimed that despite the ongoing procurement process for these vaccines, it is constantly coordinating supply with other nations.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the bivalent COVID-19 vaccines made by Moderna and PfizerBioNTech may be given as a single booster dose.

In order to use the vaccination in a way that is acceptable, fair, and logistically excellent, according to the DOH, numerous assignment procedures and techniques are being examined. More than a million bivalent vaccines are expected to be delivered in March 2023.

Two nations offered to inoculate bivalent COVID-19 in the Philippines. DOH Officer-in-charge, Maria Rosario Vergeire, continued negotiations and contacts with the unidentified two countries in such a manner that DOH could quickly ascertain if the vaccinations were authorized for use in the nation.

The elderly, medical professionals, and people with comorbid conditions will be the priority populations for the distribution of bivalent vaccines.

The most recent statistics, according to the Department of Health, also showed that 94.57% of the sample population, or 73.8 million people, had received the full COVID-19 vaccination, and over 21.45 million individuals received boosters. The government advised people to receive their main vaccine and booster doses as they can still keep people from developing serious infections even if there are currently no bivalent vaccines available in the nation.

Throw away culture

Recycling is not the perfect lightbulb at the bottom of the world’s waste adversity—not even close. What is wrong with plastic recycling?

Why aren’t most plastics recycled?

Plastic production is a complicated process. The plastic we see today for the most part comes from fossil fuel sources. After only one or a couple of uses, single-use plastics end up tossed in the trash and then into our landfills, our oceans, and waterways—adding to plastic waste. Plastic waste is an enormous issue that has been addressed plenty of times with merely bandaid solutions, yet we are still at the rear look. Just like a blind leading a blind.

“Plastic production has more than tripled since the ’90s. It also shows half the world’s plastic was made after 2003. About 150 million tons of plastic—many of it non-degradable—is floating in our oceans,” reported by the World Economic Forum.

For many animal species, plastics are a total eco nightmare. The viral video of a turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nostril led to the plastic straw ban. Most plastics are not biodegradable and cannot be separated normally by microscopic organisms or other residing things, and accordingly, the vast majority wind up in untamed wild habitats where it represents a threat to plants and creatures.

Though the realm of plastics is fundamental to 21st-century living, it can likewise be very risky, particularly when we overproduce, overuse, and over-devour and afterward neglect to reuse, reuse, and discard it appropriately.

The issue of singleuse plastic cannot be addressed by only one individual: we need cultural change and fundamental activity. To achieve foundational change in handling the environmental emergency, we need to handle plastic contamination across the entire plastics esteem chain—from the extraction of nonrenewable energy sources that fill in as the feedstock of plastic, right to the removal of plastic waste.

Wicked Problem

PlastiCaution

Plastic is very harmful to human life and the environment. They lead to destroying marine life and polluting Earth. We used to hear that plastics are on different bodies of land and water , and with that it destroyed many. But what if not only in water and soil but also through the air, which is also extremely harmful to human life?

Dark smoke was seen from the Divine Shepherd crematorium facility in Cagayan de Oro City on September 1, 2021 during an investigation by the City Local Environment and National Resources Office (CLENRO).

A video was posted on Facebook on August 7, 2021, about the dark smoke coming from the crematorium facility, located in Barangay Bulua. One of the residents interviewed also claims the facility continuously emits thick smoke for three to six years, causing health problems. He also added that it has been frequent since the pandemic began.

“Black smoke will be released only five minutes from the start of a cremation process. This is because other items will be included in the cremation such as body bags made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) materials; () cellphones, laptops, and other items of those who died during their hospital stay were included in the cremation,” CLENRO Chief Armen Cuenca said.

Cuenca also manages the Management of the Dead Cluster and has negotiated with private funeral service providers to either bury or cremate dead COVID-19 patients.

Burning plastic is harmful to our health because it contains dioxin and furan which are harmful to ourhealth. Cuenca also added that these elements, even if they are small, can cause great damage to us and the environment, which when burned can also cause death. If dioxin is inhaled

it can cause coughing, difficulty in breathing, and dizziness. The most lethal is when you are exposed to it for a long time, which will cause cancer. Plastic pollution has become one of the major environmental issues, as the rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products is making the whole world lack the capacity to deal with or resist them. It is more visible in developing countries in Asia and Africa, where waste collection systems are often inefficient or non-existent. But the developed world, especially in countries with low recycling rates, also has problems with properly collecting discarded plastics. What can we do to reduce the pollution or issue of this plastic? It’s easy, we should help ourselves to not use plastic to reduce it, and if you have plastics in your house just recycle them for more use. We must stop burning PVC or any other plastic for the sake of our environment and continue to follow the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

ELECTricity MATTERS

Repower Father’s Project

The Bataan Nuclear Plant was built in response to the oil crisis in 1973 during dictatorship of late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and spent 2.1 Billion USD for construction. It can generate 623 MW (MegaWatt). However, the power plant never operated again due to financial and environmental issues, and political liability.

One of the concerns of every Filipino is the electricity rate. According to Business Mirror, the Philippines has the highest average electricity price in Asia next to Japan in 2018. BNPP could achieve lower electricity prices to P2 per kWh (kilowatt per hour) unlike using coal-fired power plants that reach P6 per kWh. Aside from that, the risk of power shortage will be lowered as well.

As climate change is a huge concern in this country, reopening BNPP is definitely not the answer for climate action. It might not release any emissions but it produces radioactive wastes. The fact that there is no way to destroy this kind of waste and even can cause pollution to the environment.

Listen to science

Listen to science

Scientists are often ignored by an ignorant populace. Their scientific knowledge finds them nonsense or boring. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space administration) climate scientist Peter Kalmus and other climate scientists were arrested after chaining themselves in JP Morgan Chase Building’s door in Los Angeles (LA), a bank that is known as the “worst fossil fuel bank”. It is all because they protested to start climate action to prevent catastrophic climate effects.

“I personally feel very strongly that we have a moral responsibility to do everything we can to wake up the public now, especially since it’s very clear that for decades, only residing within the peerreviewed literature has not worked by any means,” Peter Kalmus said in an interview.

A group of scientists including Kalmus is part of the ‘Scientist Rebellion’. According to their official website, “We are activists from a variety of scientific backgrounds, calling on our communities to stand in resistance to the genocidal direction of our governments before it’s too late. If we scientists don’t act like we’re in an emergency, how can we expect the public to do so?” These scientists will

use their knowledge to save everybody’s future.

After the climate scientists showed their courage on the live stream of Scientist Rebellion’s social media pages, scientists from 25 countries joined the stage as well. Same also with Kalmus’ concern, their purpose is to address aggressive climate action to the world governments.

Each group of scientists from different countries has demonstrated their way to protest. According to Margaret Osborne, Spanish scientists threw liquid as fake blood while the Germans glued themselves to a bridge near the German Parliament. The rage and frustration within them went out through protesting. In fact, they did this not for themselves but everybody, especially for the younger generation.

A rally or protest exists to create chaos; it is a way to spread the word alongside the majority. If they did not speak up, how should we know that we still have a few years left to save the earth from climate destruction? That’s why you should listen to knowledgeable ones.

Nuclear power plants are considered reliable sources of power and renewable energy. This power plant basically would not affect any climatic factors and does not release carbon emissions during operation. “A nuclear power plant in full-swing operation can produce energy non-stop for an entire year, which allows for a good return on investment because there is no delay in energy production.” Spring Power & Gas (SP&G)stated.

“BNPP was designed to withstand an intensity 9 earthquake and is located 18 meters above sea level. An intensity 9 earthquake will typically result in a 10-meter tsunami.” He said. BNPP (Bataan Nuclear Power Plant) is located less than a hundred miles away from four volcanoes, and three geographical faults which are the Iba Fault, West Valley Fault, and East Zambales Fault. If any prone accident might happen, the water and food located within 50 miles of the nuclear plant will be polluted.

It is also expensive to rehabilitate a nuclear power plant if ever it reopens and so does the plan of transferring the site to Morong. Upgrading the power plant could cost another 1 Billion USD and could take at least 4 years. The country currently has 13 Trillion USD in general government debt.

Philippines’ economic growth from 2020 - to 2021 resumes to aggravate than how it should be in 2019. It was as if we woke up knowing that poverty had already enveloped us. 2022 PRESIDENTIAL APIRANTS’ AGRICUTURE DEVELOPMENT PLANS

While the election is just around the corner, what should we potentially expect on the desk for the next agriculture development plans?

The Philippines’ economy is resilient and strong—we have maintained our agriculture, livestock, and livelihood through the economic downturn and prosperity, and in moments of a health crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. By voting for the candidates of our choice, we can continue to uphold and improve our economy’s core functions and values.

“How can it be that we have been investing many billions in agribusiness for many years and the area has not helped farmers advance up the income ladder?”

Invasion Effects

PH Economic Landslide

In 2019, the Philippines was dubbed Asia’s “next tiger economy.” The country had one of the fastestgrowing economies due to its production of goods and services. During the economic collapse in the latter of Ferdinand Marcos’ reign, it earned the title “Sick Man of Asia,” which it later shed. The Philippines’ economic recovery began decades

The country is struggling to recover from COVID-19 due to a series of unclear events this year, including the country’s lengthy lockdown and failure to convert to a more efficient containment policy. When COVID threatens to take over the country’s health system, the Philippines government has resorted to draconian mobility restrictions throughout broad sections of the country’s key cities and growth hubs, rather than

The global outlook remains bleak, with big concerns about the pandemic’s progress and the prospect of financial crisis due to high debt levels. Policymakers must strike a tough balance between fostering recovery and ensuring price stability and fiscal sustainability.

The Philippines’ total debt climbed by 18.5 percent, or P1.8 trillion, at the start of 2021, which was shocking news. The government’s debt had climbed to P11.6 trillion as of the end of July 2021, up 4% from June, as the country

When Russia invaded Ukraine, military analysts anticipated how long the fight would go or how severe the repercussions would be in Europe and the rest of the world. As the war enters its third month, the economic consequences of the fighting are becoming obvious, and the future is not promising.

The war between Russia and Ukraine is aggravating supply and demand tensions, damaging consumer sentiment, and threatening global economic growth against a turbulent backdrop of global inflationary pressures due to rising food and energy prices and disrupted supply chains following the pandemic.

The invasion will further disrupt global markets, have short term negative effects on the global food supply, and have long-term consequences for producers as they start a new planting season by affecting natural gas and fertilizer markets. This might exacerbate alreadyhigh food price inflation, posing a major threat to low-income net food importers, many of which have suffered an increase in malnutrition rates in recent years

due to pandemic disruptions.

Ukraine exports 18% of the world’s sunflower seed, saf-flower, and cottonseed oil, as well as 13% of corn, 12% of global barley, and 8% of wheat and meslin.

In terms of absolute figures, corn is Ukraine’s largest export market, bringing in a massive $4.77 billion per year. The Russian Federation was also the world’s top exporter of nitrogen fertilizers and the second largest supplier of potassium fertilizers.

The Philippines has already suffered the effects of rising costs throughout the conflict, especially after inflation reached a six-month high of 4% in March. Fuel import costs are expected to rise in the coming years as global oil prices remain high.

“The convergence of all the global challenges like increasing petroleum prices, distortion of the

global supply chain, increase in shipping costs, increase of prices of agricultural inputs like fertilizers, feeds and now the Ukraine crisis will definitely lead to global food price spike leading to higher food inflation,” Agriculture Secretary William Dar wrote in Viber.

Dar emphasized the importance of increasing agricultural productivity, which will result in increased local food production. At the start of the pandemic, the DA launched the Plant, Plant, Plant program, which aims to boost national agri-fishery output by increasing productivity across all commodities through increased use of quality seeds, appropriate inputs, and modern technologies, ensuring food productivity, availability, accessibility, and affordability amid the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Borrowing from overseas can help countries grow faster by financing productive investments while also mitigating the impact of economic upheavals. However, if a country or government accumulates debt beyond its ability to service, a debt crisis can develop, potentially resulting in significant economic and social losses.

However, the country’s economy should not remain stagnant. If everything has a way, as well as solving the economic problem. If the government is willing to find a process, will economic inflation increase?

Russie-Ukraine War Effect on PH Economy’s Deflation and Inflation Rate

Presidential candidates are preparing growth plans and will freely engage in horticulture and farming activities if elected. These candidates would have to undertake a lot of campaigning to persuade voters that they are the best person for what could be the most difficult job in the country.

Christopher “Bong” Go promised to give “recovery bundles” for MSMEs and the agricultural sector, as well as monetary assistance and zerointerest credit loans to 10 million disadvantaged families. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson also committed to support infrastructure expenditure, but only if “realistic targets” are defined and a “climate-resilient” base is built.

If Vice President Leni Robredo is elected president next year, the agriculture department’s budget will be increased from around 2% to 4% of the entire national budget during a six-year period.

Bongbong Marcos believes that a national agriculture strategy is needed to ensure food security. Manny Pacquiao’s first 100 days as President will be focused on economic recovery: support and raise employment, improve and develop medical care services.

The dust has not completely settled on the election, but everything starts at the top. We can restore the government from this fragile democracy if we choose the right people who are not just strong leaders, but leaders who possess the qualities of wise leadership that will help the country to eliminate graft and corruption, uplift the poor, and see what we can do for our marginalized sector in our society.

SMART and MOGCHS improves InterConnection

Smart Communications’ ability to cope releases inventions that show its great alteration of this new norm. From connecting people in the cities to connecting people in their homes.

Internet connections are now used to share information and collaborate on projects. New inventions and new ways to continue the flow of life in the present.

As the successful signing of an agreement between MOGCHS and SMART Communication started, it has been assured that they will be providing the school with SMART Wifi, which will cover the entire school and will provide a more effective online learning experience. It is still with this set-up that the teachers will mostly be the major beneficiaries of the Wi-fi around the campus. The other supported and a newly developed way to let everyone join and experience faster communication is the SMART Infocast.

From the perspective of SMART Communications Development Officer, Joshua Dael, “With the use of SMART Infocast, it will serve as a text messaging broadcast system, which can be used as an official means of communication between teachers and students at the school.”

It was further stated that everyone’s interaction will become faster and more convenient, as teachers can now go directly to give their advisories and announcements in the app, and all members of the group will be notified immediately.

This agreement has assured the school that they will experience better connection and internet access for their teachers and students. SMART Com. is willing to provide and build faster and easier internet access, and will be working on a much stronger relationship, not only between SMART and the school principal and staff but primarily with the students, to address their concerns in connection to how education currently flows.

“This marks the beginning of a fruitful fellowship and exciting activities and programs.” Mr. Dael stated. SMART is ready to undertake activities for a more stable relationship and to expand its organizational goals.

SMART Communications will continue its innovative ideas as time changes and will opt to make greater and brighter ways that will help the lives of many. MOGCHS can now expect improvement in its internet access around the campus.would take legal action if the “No Vaccine No Entry” policy was implemented, the policy was still implemented.

Thrive in Turbulent Times

Apportunities

To survive challenging business conditions, ‘treps need two things: adaptability and flexibility.

Stronger Connectivity

As much as we would like to put COVID behind us, things are still unpredictable and businesses will need to continue to be agile. With back-to-back lockdowns persistently approaching, entrepreneurs need all the assistance they can get with modernizing their current services and further developing approaches to reach new customers through online and digital apps.

In just a few years, we’ve changed from deskbound to palm-fixed as we turn to devices in the form of mobile phones but with the smarts of fullblown computers. The popularity of smartphones has also given way to the creation of applications, or simply apps, a familiar ubiquitous word in the global lexicon.

Being an entrepreneur you need to wear many hats: bookkeeping, deals, staff planning, or HR, so discovering great business applications to assist with making life somewhat simpler may be exactly what you need.

“Businesses and consumers that we’re able to ‘go digital’ have helped mitigate the economic downturn caused by the pandemic,” UNCTAD Acting Secretary-General Isabelle Durant said.

The trend toward e-commerce is likely to continue throughout the recovery from COVID-19. However, some countries’ customers and organizations haven’t profited from pandemicinduced online business opportunities because of obstructions. These include expensive broadband

Cheaters go Techy

Amid the pandemic shift to remote schools, the rise of cheating is forcing The Department of Education (DepEd) to adapt to the unintended punishment or consequence of students learning from the comfort of their homes.

Online learning is simply not as good as being in the classroom and neither is taking tests online. Even before the pandemic, cheating has always been a challenge to the education system. In a twist from sneaking across a classroom aisle at a classmate’s paper, kids are now messaging and texting each other to get answers.

There’s been a rise in cheating and academic dishonesty as students engage with learning online.

Filipino students were using a Facebook group to share notes and answers to tests with one another during blended learning. “This is alarming. It is not helping that instead of the children putting in their efforts to learn, they just copy from each other,” Education Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said. The

services, overreliance on cash, lack of customers’ trust, poor digital abilities among the population, and the government’s limited attention to online business.

Two critical stages that stood apart for this sector in the Philippines were Shopee, with around 54.6 million web guests, and Lazada with around 38.3 million month-to-month guests, individually. Physical stores were temporarily shut down due to lockdowns and so as new trends emerge, Filipinos highly consider convenience, live selling, and shopping online—shifting to online platforms for their daily needs including food delivery, groceries, and even financial transactions.

We are hooked on browsing and shopping for goods and services and are described as adventurous shoppers, with 80 percent interested in trying new and different ways of shopping.

We’re all doing our best to learn how to cope and change our game plan to accept this current new norm. When it comes to business, it’s obviously pretty hard. Everything needs to be re-evaluated. To stay relevant and keep some semblance of income coming in, we have to think of ways to move our businesses online.

Business owners who have the ability to recognize the opportunity or necessity of change are quick to pick up and adapt to external factors. This was something that the Filipino ‘treps had to learn the hard way.

“Online Kopyahan” community at one point numbered more than 600,000 members, but after a local TV report aired on Friday, half of the members left the now archived group.

There is still no information if DepEd had addressed the issue to Facebook. However, many are jumping to the conclusion that DepEd allegedly reported it, due to a server error experience including all social networks.

Homework-help sites and apps make it a lot easier to cheat. Kids can crack even complex math equations just by uploading a photo of the problem.

While multiple of these same lecture assistants can also instruct kids how to work out challenges on their own, the temptation to take the quick road is always there.

By focusing too much on how students cheat, a study from the American Psychological Association says we may be

MOGCHS STE conducts rainfall warner research

ignoring some underlying core issues that are driving the behavior. There could be pressure or something significant going on in the student’s life in which they’re not getting enough support to do the work, so cheating becomes a coping mechanism.

As we were shoved into a lot of responsibilities and stress, online learning has become more of a compliance issue for students. Regardless, we failed to understand the real value of education. To learn and adapt one step at a time. But now, we just simply comply and finish the tasks.

Fueling stress has corrupted learning by narrowing and defining achievement as little more than scoring well on an exam. Because they are sitting alone in the privacy of their own home, students can switch between onscreen windows to look up test answers while they are taking online tests.

DepEd has set new measures not necessarily developed to prevent cheating but alternative ways of measuring and assessing the progress of learners. The authorities have taken the lead to prevent academic dishonesty amid the pandemic.

Even if we flip the world upside-down, it’s no rocket science that cheating is a disguised choice. May it be a result of a personal issue or just general laziness, it is still wrong and should never be used under any circumstances.

Students from the Special Program in Science and Technology (STE) at Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) have developed a research paper titled “Innovate Battery Operated, Light-Emitting Water Level Alarm.” It aims to assist the community and improve the standard of living, particularly during these rainy days.

Flooding is the most common natural disaster in the world and recent events in Cagayan de Oro City. According to Twingkle Martinez, the research leader, they came up with the idea for this study while talking about current events. They were about to choose a topic related to COVID-19 that could help people because of the pandemic, yet they believe their knowledge is insufficient to create it. They did, however, consider the monsoon.

In some cases, the phrase is also used to denote locally heavy but brief rainfall. It is commonly used to refer to rainfall without mentioning the winds. Although technically, there is also a dry phase, the term monsoon is usually used to refer to the rainy phase of a seasonally shifting pattern. The monsoon is an atmospheric phenomenon that occurs when the mean surface wind changes direction from summer to winter.

The three-water signal downpour, according to her, will also alert three times and illuminate light.

The project is made out of recyclable materials, it is economical but effective. However, they will employ inexpensive and low-cost components, resulting in a product that is merely restricted in terms of alarming. It will only cover a small number of individuals.

In agriculture, the proposed irrigation technique saves water by automating the process. Rainfall is an important natural occurrence for agricultural activities to meet their water needs. However, we have no way of knowing when pessimism will strike. Nobody knows when, how, or why.

Rainfall is becoming our greatest nightmare as we journey back in time, as we saw Typhoon Sendong in 2011. Indeed, with Martinez’ project we will never see 51,757 homes be washed again by flooding.

Will the students make memories to tackle in the future?

Or is it just gonna be all gray and no wonder?

With intramurals as one of the most anticipated events, the announcement of its cancel-

lation made students, especially those who are graduating at the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) dejected at the prospect of not being able to experience the enjoyment of participating in intramurals.

Intramurals should be a moment of rest for students as they take a break from stress in their school activities and enjoy their life as a student but instead, they face academic pressures and stress in their coming back to school.

It is unfortunate that students of this generation will not have the opportunity to participate in the intramurals that will provide them with many unforgettable memories with their

peers.

It is also an event where athletes and non-athletes can play together.

The Supreme Student Government (SSG), on the other hand, aims to cover that hole and add color to the stressful life of students by hosting fun events.

The event covered the school in red as the atmosphere of love for friends and lovers spread throughout the whole school.

After the successful event on Valentine’s Day, a lot of students hope that they will hold more events during their remaining school days. Moreover, the Provincial Meet is coming and athletes all around the world will play once more on the field. We can’t help change the past but we

Wushu, Pencak Silat joins MOGCHS sports

Sports coordinator

Rodulfo M. Angulo confirmed two new martial art sports, Pencak Silat and Wushu, in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) on February 22, 2023.

Angulo affirmed in his statement that Pencak Silat is a new sport introduced to student-athletes

in MOGCHS last year.

Pencak Silat is an individual combative sport that originated in Southeast Asia. It will be officially played in tournaments this school year, coached by Adrian Tagam and Johnny Borres.

Angulo also mentioned another combat-

ive sports event. It is a martial art called Wushu. MOGCHS already joined competitions where Liza Mae Soza and Jose Lasabas were the coaches.

He also added that athletes would commence their intensive training and preparation for the anticipated Provincial Meet, which will be hosted and accommodated by MOGCHS this coming March 9 to 11.

an athlete herself.

To be a certified athlete in MOGCHS, Rohanna competed in her first tournament as a student in MOGCHS, the National Online New Face Of The Year Taekwondo Poomsae Championships 2022.

That moment was one of her most memorable memories because it was during their training that it was announced who was the winner. Her teammate saw the announcement and ran to her, shouting that she had won the gold. She was embraced and told how they were very proud of her.

"That moment alone made all the hard work so worth it," Rohanna said.

"The first thing I learned is to always clap for others, because your moment will come sooner or later. Next, I learned that through hard work and perseverance, you can make the seemingly impossible possible. Lastly, you have to be confident in yourself. Because in the end, you only have yourself, and only you know your limits. Especially since sports are always about "mind over body," Rohanna added in an interview about the lessons she learned from her experience.

During the provincial meet preparation, Rohanna stated, "My goal is to get a gold medal so I can qualify for the regional meet, and of course to enjoy the tournament." As the anticipated event for athletes is coming, each

coach, especially in taekwondo, thrives to train them as best they can. After the selection of players, they began their training. They were excused from class and trained from morning until almost evening every day. Although managing her time is hard and tiring, especially with academics to handle, Rohanna still manages to have fun.

However, struggles are unavoidable in training, as Rohanna herself has suffered few injuries, including twisted foot during sparring.

"We're currently struggling with our rhythm during poomsae, and some of us are still struggling from previous injuries," she said.

Despite the struggles, Rohanna continues to put a smile on her face as she goes with the flow.

Tido’s most unforgettable performance was his overhand right knock-out during his semifinals against team Lakay’s junior, which he won via outclassed, and he was able to fight for gold the next day. Thirdy’s reaction to his knockdown was “unexpected.”

Former Nak Muai and current coach of Cagayan De Oro Team Lions, Mak “the Kagay-anon bad boy” Macapundag, said that Tido has strong punches and kicks, and most importantly, he has a high fight IQ. He also acknowledges that Tido has a gifted fist and expects his team to attain gold, but he still needs clarification on how the fighters execute

their performance.

He felt unsettled during his first fight since he was fighting among the best of the best in the country. Tido honestly told coach Mak that he felt uneasy, though the coach assured him that he should relax since he knows his potential. He fought with a swollen right knee, but despite the injury, Tido still won.

During the National Championship, the feared teams were from Baguio and Zamboanga since they were known for their vigorous fighting style in past competitions. But without a doubt, Tido knocks a fighter off the feared team. Coach Mak said he did not expect Thirdy to be able to knock

out one of those fighters.

Coach Mak is still unsure if he will allow Tido to compete for the gold because of his swollen right knee, but Tido still wants to fight. Tido started building momentum in his championship match, and his injury became bearable. He carried his energy until the third round and won gold via a scorecard.

Players must qualify in regional-level competitions and the Mindanao League for the National Muay Thai Championship. Coach Mak collected funds through solicitations from different donors to have funds during the National Muay Thai Championship. Overall, the Cagayan De Oro Team Lions

Glaiza’s sister forcefully instills taekwondo in her heart; no good deed goes unnoticed as she won several awards, including six gold medals, five bronze medals, four silver medals, and a silver for National New Face of the Year in 2019.

She started her passion for taekwondo when she was only six years old. She didn’t hate it either or disliked the world of taekwondo, but years passed, and with her elder sisters and seniors encouragement, she learned to love taekwondo.

Glaiza grew to love taekwondo over time and envisioned herself as an Olympian and Registered Dietitian in 10 years.

The 12-year-old’s sweetest achievements did not stop there. Blood and sweat had witnessed her sacrifices as she won her most recent tournament last year, on November 26, 2022, in the Philippine Taekwondo National

Poomsae Team Training Pool for 2023, in which she competed in both the individual and team categories.

To enjoy the fruit of its labor, she carefully watered and fed by prayer, intense training, and a strong passion for her chosen sport and nourished by a beautiful family who supports her and her goal.

Despite her difficulties balancing her studies, training, sleep, and exhaustion during training, she pursued her goal. As she stated, every success has a price: “No pain, No gain.”

Glaiza also doubted herself when the pandemic started.

“When pandemic strikes and quarantine is mandatory, I thought taekwondo is not for me because there will be no more training. I’ve gained weight, and it’s always been my struggle. I need to lose weight, which is difficult because I have a good appetite–So I always

attained 2 golds and 1 silver in the tournament.

The Kagay-anon bad boy coach acknowledges everyone in his post via Facebook: “I, as a coach, and my students will be forever grateful for giving us a chance to compete at the highest level.”

In an interview, he said that people interested in joining Muay Thai “love the art, and the art will love you back.”

Tido is eligible for the Philippine national team, and Coach Mak hopes that a fighter from the national team, Lions, will be selected.

control my food intake.”

To unravel her story, Glaiza left footprints in her taekwondo journey by leaving words to inspire her fellow dreamers. She says pain is only temporary, but victory is forever. She means to be consistent in your training as you wait for the result and achieve success.

Nonetheless, Glaiza finds solace in her happy moments in taekwondo, which are quartering and memories of when she received her medals. Glaiza, like any other girl her age, enjoys drawing, painting, watching Netflix, dancing, and watching TikTok videos in addition to taekwondo.

From her sister’s potency of taekwondo, as what her sister instills in her heart, Glaiza blooms and shines as it symbolizes its beauty and as she embraces its passion for success.

According to Sports Coordinator Rodulfo Angulo, there will be screening committees, team managers, and sports coordinators from other schools to screen athletes from different events physically. The Provincial Meet will hold in Misamis Oriental Integrated Sports Complex (MOISC) and MOGCHS’ event center this coming March 9 to 11.

“This screening will determine if the athletes are qualified for the Provincial Meet. If an athlete was born in 2004, then the athlete will be automatically disqualified. Only those born in January 2005 and above are qualified to join,” Angulo said.

MOGCHS will compete in the Provincial meet with 220 athletes and participate in approximately 24 sports events. There will be five sports for individuals: billiard, chess, dance, and gymnastics, and three for timemeasured sports, including swimming, athletics, and archery.

There will be boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, Wushu, and pencak silat for combative sports. As for the team, sports will consist of basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, sepak takraw, football, and futsal.

This year’s team sports competition will be different as the selection for group category is “winner-take-all,” which, if a team wins, all team players will automatically qualify for the Provincial Meet. As part of the preparation, athletes were excused from class and started their intensive training from morning to almost evening every day.
