English Department revamps First-Year Composition Program By AKHILA REDDY Staff Writer
After a decade with no change, the First-Year Composition Program at Texas Tech is undergoing new adjustments to ensure the best possible experience for students. Michael J. Faris, assistant chair of the English Department, said new modifications to the curriculum are being enforced in different pilot classes. The curriculums for English 1301, Essentials of College Rhetoric, and 1302, Advanced College Rhetoric, were due for an update, he said. “Well, we saw a few problems with the current curriculum and program,” Faris said. “One is that a pretty significant number of stu-

learn something. If we don’t go hard that doesn’t help us, that’s a missed rep,” Tech Head Coach Adrian Gregory said, according to Tech Athletics. On Friday, Feb. 9, Tech will take on Boston College for the first game of the season with
the first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m., according to Tech Athletics. This will be the Red Raiders first chance of the 2018 season to prove what they are capable of against a live opponent.

A couple of things came to mind, he said, one of which was flaws in the grading system, notably distributive grading. Matthew Stigler, a graduate student instructor, taught English 1301 before the change and is currently teaching 1302.
