marriage proposal and an 80-71 win ended the regular season for the Texas Tech men’s basketball team in a game against the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in the United Supermarkets Arena. Tech’s win over the Wildcats brought the Red Raiders’ regular season total to 19 wins and 11 losses overall. Senior guards Devaugntah Williams and Toddrick Gotcher played their last game at home and both scored in double digits. Tech coach Tubby Smith said even though the team shot well versus Kansas State, he does not feel that Tech has reached its top form as NCAA tournament time approaches. “We’ve done some good things this year that gives us a legitimate chance at making the NCAA tournament,” Smith said.

“You can’t leave things to chance, we have to keep playing well. We have to play better than we played today.” Kansas State opened the game on a 12-2 run for the early go ahead. Williams ended the offensive drought for the Red Raiders by scoring from the right baseline after rebounding a prior shot attempt. A layup and right corner three cut the Tech deficit to 14-9, but the Wildcats answered shortly by making a 3-pointer and driving in a layup. Nearing the final five minutes of the first half, Tech picked up the pressure at both sides of the court on the Wildcats and forced mistakes on possessions. Adding to the defensive effort, sophomore center Norense Odiase checked in for Tech near the 13-minute mark, his first time playing since going down with a foot injury in mid-January.
