Title IX administrator lays out complaint filing process

t may be a daunting task to report any forms of discrimination or harassment a student, faculty or staff may have experienced on or around campus. Generally speaking, any person who is subject to any form of sex-based discrimination can voice their concerns to Tech officials. Though the outcome may not always be as desired, students, faculty and staff have this opportunity open to them with the help of Tech’s Title IX administrators on campus. However, in many cases when people lodge complaints, it usually comes from a third-hand report, Kimberly Simón, Title IX administrator, said. “So, a student, faculty or staff member may tell somebody else that they know and trust and then that person reports to us. That’s most common,” Simón said. “But we do hear people who come to us directly, they can do that in person, online, over the phone, it’s really just whatever is easi-

est for them.” Once an investigation has started, there are many avenues Simón’s office takes to be as thorough as possible. This means asking for other witnesses or people who have similar experiences to what a person originally lodged a complaint about.
