fter losing the first championship game on Sunday night, Texas Tech came back strong on Monday afternoon and defeated Dallas Baptist 5-3 in an elimination game to advance to the Super Regionals. “Guys compete. You get to this point in the year with your team and you’re going to have 27 guys out there that want to compete for 9 innings,” coach Tim Tadlock said. “Both teams did that and we’re fortunate to come out on the right side of that.” In the first Lubbock Regional since 1999, the Raiders went 3-1, losing only to the Patriots on Monday night. This is the first time Tech has advanced to a Super Regional after hosting the opening round, according to Tech Athletics, and only the second time in program history they have advanced to the Super Regionals. Two more former players arrested on burglary charges Two more former Texas Tech football players have been arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation. According to The Associated Press, Dakota Allen, a sophomore linebacker, and Trace Ellison, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, were both arrested in connection with the theft of at least seven guns. Ellison, who was arrested June 1, and Allen, who was arrested on June 2, have both been released on $5,000 bonds, according to
The AP. Ellison, Allen and Robert Castaneda are accused of breaking into a Lubbock home between Dec. 20 and Jan. 9, according to The AP. Castaneda who was arrested on May 27 according to a recent article from The Daily Toreador, was questioned and told police the jersey numbers of the other two individuals involved.
According to The AP, in the arrest warrant affidavit Castaneda said the other two individuals broke into the home in an attempt to steal money from a drug dealer who lived there, but took a gun safe with weapons instead. However, in Castaneda’s first statement with authorities he said he bought the guns illegally and cheaply with the intention of reselling them.
The AP also reported in the affidavit the owner of the stolen guns was in a pawnshop in March and found the stolen weapons there. According to a recent article in The Daily Toreador, all three players were dismissed from the team by coach Kliff Kingsbury because they did not maintain student-athlete expectations. There has been no official word yet on if these incidents are related. @DailyToreador
