okémon fans can now “catch ’em all” bring back their childhood, or be introduced to the game, with the Pokémon Go app. Nintendo released the app to iPhone users on July 6, which allows Pokémon fans to catch first generation Pokémon wherever they go. The first Pokémon game was released in Japan in 1996. After that Pokémon took off, c a p t u ring the individuals i n a

virtual world of interesting creators. “I was a big fan of Pokémon when I was growing up. So when I heard about the app coming out, I was really excited.” Darby Gonzales, a senior animal science major said. It wasn’t just Gonzales that was excited about the new app. Pokémon Go is the currently the top free app in both the Apple and Google app stores and is being played all around world. Google Maps makes it possible for Pokémon trainers to catch Pokémon in anywhere in the world and get a live view of their surroundings while the throw pokéballs. “Google Maps and the Pokémon Go app work together to drop Pokémon on the map at random.” Justin Perkins, a Pokémon trainer, said. Texas Tech’s Dairy Barn is a hot spot for players to catch Pokémon, participate in gyms and collect items at different Pokéstops. At night, hundreds of students gather on campus to try and catch more Pokémon and use all the Pokéstops. According to the Digital Spy website, Pokéstops are located in more populated areas and can help players collect better items and higher ranked Pokémon. “You can collect different items at Pokéstops,” Perkins said “Pokéstops are usually any significant spot in a city.” Significant spots in the city can also be home to Pokémon Gyms. Once a player reaches level five, they can join one of three teams and begin to compete in gyms. Gonzales said people can train their Pokémon at their team’s gym. “You can train at the gym with one of your own Pokémon to increase the gym’s level as well as giving yourself experience points.” Gonzales said. @DailyToreador
