TEXAS TECH SOLD 38,502 FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS THIS YEAR, MARKING THE FIRST SELLOUT IN SCHOOL HISTORY.
THAT MEANS THAT OF THE 60,454 SEATS IN JONES AT&T STADIUM, APPROXIMATELY 63 PERCENT WENT TO SEASON TICKET HOLDERS. BY COMPARISON, 29 PERCENT OF RIP GRIFFIN PARK AND 20 PERCENT OF UNITED SUPERMARKETS ARENA FOR MEN’S BASKETBALL WENT TO SEASON TICKET HOLDERS. THE RED RAIDERS NOV. 1 GAME AGAINST TEXAS GAINED THE EARLIEST SELLOUT STATUS IN SCHOOL HISTORY, AND RESALE TICKETS ON STUBHUB START AT $144.48.

When Texas Tech began selling football season tickets in February, the cheapest option offered was $179 and included a seat at each of the Red Raiders’ six home games. Now, a fan wanting to attend the team’s sold-out game against the Texas Longhorns on Nov. 1 would have to pay at least $114 per seat, only $65 less than the cheapest season ticket, on a resale site like StubHub or Vivid Seats. Erik Book, associate athletic director of marketing, sales and service, said a lot of the success the school had selling tickets had to do with the Red Raiders’ success in the 2014 Holiday Bowl. “Obviously, the Holiday Bowl victory played a huge part,” he said. “It gave momentum going into the months of January and February.” Book said Tech did not take a traditional approach with its football season ticket sales this year. Instead of starting in May or June like most schools do, they took the momentum from the Holiday Bowl and began selling season tickets in February.

New parking added in anticipation of football season By DEVON BURGESS Staff WritEr
The Red Raider Club has announced changes to parking this football season that will affect fans heading to the stadium for game day. New space reserved parking has been added in lot R-24, north of the Terry Fuller Petroleum Engineering Research Building, according to a Tech Athletics news release. With lots C-1, C-2, DLE and the addition of R-24, Texas Tech will now have four donor-reserved parking lots for fans, according to the release. “The biggest message we would like to relay to fans is that we have sold out of season tickets, we’re really close to a

sellout,” Blayne Beal, associate athletic director, said, “and that’s going to really impact parking on game day.” New parking options are being provided to non-season ticket holders as well, following the news that Tech Athletics had sold all of the season tickets for the 2014 season, according to the release. Parking lots R-3, R-5 and R-7 are now being used for game day parking, according to a Red Raider Club news release, and will cost fans between $225 and $350 for the season. “A great part of game day parking is that fans often find their niche and build relationships with other fans in the parking lots,” Amy Heard, associate director of the Red Raider Club, said, according to the website.

Red Raider Club also offers fans the option of parking in the Raider Park garage. Tech Athletics is encouraging fans to purchase parking passes ahead of time, instead of waiting until game day, according to the release. “If you do not purchase parking in advance, you’re going to run into some problems on game day,” Beal said. Fans can purchase a season parking pass at Raider Park for $295 or a single game day pass for $55, according to the Red Raider Club website. Lacey Trull, a freshman agricultural business major from Houston, said she is thankful she will be able to walk to the stadium from her room instead of having to deal with parking. “The traffic around the area gets re-

ally bad when a game is going on,” she said. “I’m already excited for the games but I won’t have to deal with the waiting in lines to park and get into the Jones.” The club also offers free parking for fans across the Marsha Sharp Freeway near the Health Sciences Center and the National Ranching Heritage Center, according to the website. Desirae Tapia, a freshman animal science major from Estancia, New Mexico, said, after visiting for a few home games during the 2013 season, the addition of parking is only a good thing. “I had heard about the traffic on game day, and witnessing it last year, more parking is a good thing to help that,” she said. According to the release, RV parking at the United Supermarket Arena
has been moved to the satellite lots and Raider Park RV has been changed to donor reserved, according to the club release. The reason for moving RV parking to the John Walker Soccer Complex is to enhance the fans’ experience on game day, Beal said. “One of the great things about the John Walker Soccer Complex is that we’ve added new amenities,” Beal said. “Fans have access to water and electricity in those areas now.” Both single-day and season-long parking for automobiles is still available and can be purchased through the Red Raider Club’s website, according to Tech Athletics. ➤➤dburgess@dailytoreador.com
