Career Closet provides professional outfits to students

Construction on KTTZ-TV tower blocks off part of lot

By BRENNA HALE Staff Writer

For almost two years, Tori Krebbs, the lead counselor of employer relations for the Texas Tech University Career Center, compiled a collection of professional clothing for students to use for interviews. The career closet has now expanded beyond the small interview room that once housed it in to separate closets for women and men, fully stocked with like new professional clothing. “When students would come for mock interviews, they would ask for the nearest Goodwill because they couldn’t afford new clothes for interviews,” Krebbs said. “That was sort of the catalyst for the career closet.” Krebbs began researching services provided to students at other universities and found that most university career centers would charge at least a dry cleaning fee to borrow clothing. Apparel in Tech’s career closet is completely free of charge to undergraduate and graduate students and does not have to be returned. Krebbs encourages students to stop by the center whether they only need a blazer, pair of slacks or a full suit. To use the career closet, the center asks that students attend at least one event they host, whether it be an etiquette dinner, a mock interview or a presentation in class. “In addition to all our other services, the career closet is another component to help students feel confident in their abilities,” Krebbs said. The center is hoping to reach more students and individuals who would like to donate unwanted professional clothing to the career closet. Master cleaners recently

Students who have a parking pass in the commuter west parking lot have found it difficult to find any open parking spots. This is due to the federally mandated construction on the KTTZ-TV radio tower, located in the west end of the parking lot. Paul Hunton, general manager

of Texas Tech public media, said the reason the tower is under construction is due to the Federal Communications Commission requiring them to undergo a “repack.” The station must get a new transmitter and a new antenna.
