The TCU Horned Frogs are coming into the 2015 season with their eyes set on a National Championship after being, what some say, robbed from playoff contention last year. TCU finished the previous season ranked 6th in total offensive yards and were led by now-senior quarterback Trevone Boykin. Boykin gives the Horned Frogs the edge over Big 12 Conference rival Baylor, which was responsible for giving TCU its only loss last season, because he is a more experienced quarterback and is already ranked in the top 10 for

passing this season. Boykin is also on pace for a possible Heisman Trophy award. Even with the loss to Baylor, TCU

was placed in the Chick-filA Peach Bowl last year and defeated the Ole Miss Rebels handedly, 42-3. The Horned Frogs will look to continue dominating teams like that throughout Big 12 play.

The difference keeping Baylor ranked below Texas Christian is the experience of its quarterback. Entering this season, junior quarterback Seth Russell had started only one game compared to 28 for Boykin. Even with his inexperience, Russell and the Bears offense are second in the nation in points per game through two games this season. The offense attacks with a variety of weapons, as it has three running backs ranking in the top 10 in the Big 12 and two receivers in the top 10 as well. After topping 1,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns last season, junior wide receiver Corey Coleman is a candidate for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the best receiver in the nation. With an arsenal of offensive weapons, the Bears also have a real shot at the College Football Playoff.

In the Big 12, TCU and Baylor are projected to be the top teams in the conference, and it is likely that the winner of the teams’ face off in the last

week of the season will be the Big 12 champion. H o w e v e r, the Oklahoma Sooners could possibly be a sleeper team in the conference. Oklahoma is 3-0 going into week four of the 2015 season, and the Sooners have an impressive overtime victory against the Tennessee Volunteers in week two. What keeps them behind TCU and Baylor is their 8-5 record last season, which is tied for the worst record under coach

Bob Stoops. The Sooners offense is under the control of junior quarterback Baker Mayfield, who has been very good at escaping defenders and making plays so far this season. Mayfield has rushed for at least one touchdown and has thrown a minimum of three touchdown passes in each of Oklahoma’s first three games of the 2015 season. He will definitely lead the Sooners to an improved record this year.

After struggling offensively in the first two games this year, Oklahoma State put up big numbers in a 69-14 win against the University of Texas at San Antonio last week. Sophomore quarterback Mason Rudolph seems be capable of running the offense as he is averaging 315 passing yards per game and completing almost 70 percent of his passes. The defense ranks second in the conference in yards allowed. After finishing last season with a 6-6 record and a bowl win, the Cowboys could improve to around eight regular season wins in 2015.

The West Virginia Mountaineers are coming into the 2015 season with high expectations from coach Dana Holgorsen, who is leading the Mountain-

eers with a slew of returning and experienced players. West Virginia is also the only team to give Baylor a loss during the 2014 season. With a record of 7-5 in the regular season, the Mountaineers would have made a splash in the headlines if they had defeated the TCU Horned Frogs, but the game ended with a one-point

loss for the Mountaineers. However, West Virginia did lose to some opponents like Texas and Kansas State who are in the bottom half of the Big 12 Rankings. With some experience under their belt, the Mountaineers could find themselves in the top half of the Big 12 this season.
