On Saturday, the Texas Tech Red Raiders faced off against the No. 5 Baylor Bears at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and the Bears left victorious with a final score of 63-35. Baylor came into the game off a 70-17 win over the Rice Owls and ranked in the top 10 in the nation in most offensive categories. The Bears kept up their offensive pace this weekend against the Red Raiders, going for 680 overall yards and

scoring 63 points. Baylor’s starting quarterback, Seth Russell, threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns. Russell also added 83 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns coming off a run by the Baylor quarterback. Baylor, however, also outran the Red Raiders with a total of 368 yards on the ground with running back Shock Linwood leading the Bears with 221 yards. “(Linwood) is a very good player,” Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said. “Their line did a good job creating holes,

RED RAIDERS BEARS and he finished his runs.” Linwood is now fourth in Baylor’s school history for yards rushed in a game with his previous career high coming back in 2013 also against Tech. The Bears also had a pair of wide receivers who made an impact on the game. Wi d e r e c e i v e r C o r e y Coleman led the Bears with a total of seven receptions for 110 yards with

three of his seven catches ending in touchdowns. Wide receiver Jay Lee also tallied more than 100 yards receiving with three receptions adding up to 120 yards. Senior defensive lineman Brandon Jackson said the atmosphere surrounding the game probably had some effect on the defense. “(There were) a lot of young guys who kind of got cut up in the glitz and glam,”

Jackson said. “You know, you got to lock in and really focus when you’re playing great teams, and Baylor were able to execute more — well, execute better than us.” Baylor’s offense put up 499 yards in the first half and also scored on its first five possessions. Baylor improved its record to 4-0 for the third straight season and now has a 37-36-1 lead in the alltime series between the two schools. This is also Baylor’s fifth straight win over the Red Raiders. “They deserve to be up

there (in the top 5), and we just — we didn’t capitalize on stuff that we worked on during the week,” senior offensive lineman Jared Kaster said. “Something we’ll have to go back and watch film and get better at.” Tech will look to bounce back off two losses to No. 4 TCU and No. 5 Baylor when it faces the Iowa State Cyclones. This will also be Tech’s homecoming game and kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock. @BSoliz_DT
