Texas Tech traveled to Fort Worth to take on the Texas Christian Horned Frogs in a game that ended with Tech winning, 27-24, in double overtime. Tech freshman running back Da’Leon Ward was an impactful player on the field Saturday carrying the ball 23 times for 98 yards and caught the ball eight times for 49 yards. Tech junior wide receiver Dylan Cantrell returned to the field on Saturday after sitting out the last game because of an injury to his
hand. Cantrell received three passes for 40 yards and one touchdown. Tech junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes II completed 24 passes on 39 attempts for 206 yards and two touchdowns. TCU freshman running back Sewo Olonilua was a key player for the Frogs, running the ball seven times for 48 yards. TCU junior wide receiver Taj Williams was also a strong player for the Frogs on Saturday. Williams received the ball four times for 52 yards. TCU’s dual-threat junior quarterback Kenny Hill completed 16 passes on 29 attempts for 160 yards, until sophomore quarterback Foster
Sawyer came in for Hill and completed six passes on 17 attempts for 86 yards and one touchdown. Tech transitioned fast down the field in the first drive at the beginning of the first quarter. However, TCU’s defense was able to turn the ball over when junior safety Nick Orr caught Mahomes’ pass. TCU’s offense took advantage of the turnover and quickly made its way down the field. With a little under five minutes on the clock, TCU scored the first touchdown of the evening when senior running back Derrick Green ran the ball into the end zone. TCU led Tech, 7-0.
