On football weekends the average rate for hotel rooms is a range of $199 to $299 per night and has a two-night minimum, Arnold said. “That’s just people staying in hotel rooms,” he said. “That does not include other expenses that are a part of traveling.” If the average room can contain about three people and every occupant is going to the game, 13,250 of the 60,000 people would have spent the night in a hotel, Arnold said. The Lubbock economy is impacted by Texas Tech football, especially during home games. “There’s a dramatic difference in the number of people that are here in this community and the number of people going out to eat,” John Osborne, CEO of Visit Lubbock and the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, said. “Even the number of people going out shopping. You can just sense it as you are out and about in town, whether there’s a home game or not.” Jones AT&T Stadium has approximately 60,454 seats, but Lubbock currently only has approximately 5,300 marketable rooms available on any given night in Lubbock, James Arnold, executive vice president of Lubbock National Bank, said.
