ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼԻ ԿՈՂՄԷ ՏԻՄՈԹԷՈՍԻՆ ՈՒՂՂԱԾ ԱՌԱՋԻՆ ՆԱՄԱԿԷՆ 1.1-11
Պօղոս՝ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի առաքեալ մեր Փրկիչ Աստուծոյ եւ մեր յոյսը եղող Քրիստոս Յիսուսի՝՝ հրամանով, Տիմոթէոսի՝ հաւատքով հարազատ զաւակիս. շնորհք, ողորմութիւն ու խաղաղութիւն Աստուծմէ՝ մեր Հօրմէն, եւ Քրիստոս Յիսուսէ՝ մեր Տէրոջմէն: Քեզի աղաչեցի որ Եփեսոս մնաս, երբ ես Մակեդոնիա կ՚երթայի, որպէսզի պատուիրես ոմանց՝ ուրիշ կերպով չսորվեցնել, ո՛չ ալ ուշադրութիւն դարձնել առասպելներու եւ անվերջանալի ազգաբանութիւններու, որոնք կը պատճառեն վէճեր՝ փոխանակ Աստուծոյ հաճելի շինութեան, որ կ՚ըլլայ հաւատքով: Իսկ պատուէրին վախճանը սէրն է՝ բխած սուրբ սիրտէ, բարի խղճմտանքէ եւ անկեղծ հաւատքէ: Ասոնցմէ վրիպելով՝ ոմանք խոտորեցան փուճ խօսքերու մէջ. կ՚ուզեն Օրէնքի վարդապետ ըլլալ, բայց չեն հասկնար ո՛չ ինչ որ կը խօսին, ո՛չ ալ այն բաները՝ որոնց վրայ կը պնդեն: Սակայն գիտենք թէ Օրէնքը լաւ է, եթէ մէկը գործածէ զայն օրինաւոր կերպով, սա՛ գիտնալով թէ Օրէնքը տրուած է ո՛չ թէ արդարներուն համար, հապա՝ անօրէններուն եւ ըմբոստներուն, ամբարիշտներուն ու մեղաւորներուն, անսուրբերուն եւ սրբապիղծներուն, հայր զարնողներուն, մայր զարնողներուն, մարդասպաննե-րուն, պոռնկողներուն, արուագէտներուն, մարդ գողցողներուն, ստախօսներուն, երդմնազանցներուն, եւ ուրիշ որեւէ բանի համար՝ որ հակառակ է ողջամիտ վարդապետութեան, համաձայն երնելի Աստուծոյ փառաւոր աւետարանին՝ որ վստահուեցաւ ինծի: ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆԷՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 2.1-11
Երրորդ օրը հարսանիք մը կար Գալիլեայի Կանա քաղաքը, եւ Յիսուսի մայրը հոն էր: Յիսուս ալ հրաւիրուեցաւ այդ հար3
սանիքին, նաեւ՝ իր աշակերտները: Երբ գինին պակսեցաւ, Յիսուսի մայրը ըսաւ անոր. «Գինի չունին»: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոր. «Կի՛ն, դուն ի՞նչ ունիս ինծի հետ. իմ ժամս դեռ հասած չէ»: Իր մայրը ըսաւ սպասարկուներուն. «Ի՛նչ որ ըսէ ձեզի՝ ըրէ՛ք»: Հոն վեց քարէ կարաս դրուած էր՝ Հրեաներուն մաքրուելու սովորութեան համաձայն. Իւրաքանչիւրը կը պարունակէր երկու կամ երեք մար: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոնց. «Լեցուցէ՛ք այդ կարասները ջուրով». ու լեցուցին զանոնք՝ մինչեւ բերանը: Եւ ըսաւ անոնց. «Հիմա հանեցէ՛ք ու տարէ՛ք սեղանապետին». անոնք ալ տարին: Երբ սեղանապետը համտեսեց գինի դարձած ջուրը՝ չէր գիտեր ուրկէ՛ ըլլալը (բայց սպասարկուները՝ որոնք հաներ էին ջուրը՝ գիտէին): Սեղանապետը կանչեց փեսան եւ ըսաւ անոր. «Ամէն մարդ նախ կը մատուցանէ լաւ գինին, ու երբ արբեցած ըլլան՝ ա՛յն ատեն ցածորակը. բայց դուն լաւ գինին պահեցիր մինչեւ հիմա»: Յիսուս իր նշաններուն սկիզբը ըրաւ ասիկա՝ Գալիլեայի Կանա քաղաքին մէջ, եւ ցոյց տուաւ իր փառքը. ու իր աշակերտները հաւատացին իրեն: TMOTHY 1.1-11
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Timothy Charged to Oppose False Teachers, as I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do 4
not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me. JOHN 2.1-11
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Woman, a why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 5
ՇԱԲԹՈՒԱՆ ՏՕՆԵՐԸ - FEASTS OF THE WEEK
ARMENIAN CHRISTMAS IN JERUSALEM The Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem celebrates Christmas on January 19. According to an ancient tradition, Christmas for us, Armenians, falls on January 6 by the Gregorian (new) calendar, that corresponds to January 19 in the Julian (old) calendar, which have a difference of 13 days. The Christmas celebrations of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the Holy Land start with the procession of Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, together with the clergy and the faithful, who travel from Jerusalem to the city of Bethlehem, to the Church of Nativity of Christ. The Armenian scouts and their band, lead the procession to the Manger Square and then into the Church of Nativity, while clergy, seminarians and the faithful join in. The Vespers and Christmas Eve Mass take place in the Basilica of Nativity, which is overseen by the Armenian Orthodox, the Catholic and the Greek Orthodox churches.

ԿԻՒՐԵՂ ՀԱՅՐԱՊԵՏՆԵՐՈՒ ՅԻՇԱՏԱԿՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՕՐ Աթանաս Աղեքսանդրացի հայրապետը քրիստոնէական եկեղեցւոյ մեծագոյն հայրերէն մէկն է: Ծնած է Աղեքսանդրիա` 296 թուականին բարեպաշտ յոյն ընտանիքէ: Իր ուսումը ստացած է Աղեքսանդրիոյ աստուածաբանական հռչակաւոր համալսարանին մէջ: Ան որպէս քարտուղար սարկաւագ Աղեքսանդրիոյ Աղեքսանդր պատրիարքին, 325 թ. Ներկայ կ’ըլլայ Նիկիոյ ժողովին: Ապա յաջորդելով անոր` 328 թուականին, եռուն պայքար կը բանայ արիոսականութեան դէմ, անհամար նամակներ գրելով արիոսականութեան յարած եպիսկոպոսներուն: Արիոսը ու իր յետեւորդները կը մերժէին Քրիստոսի աստուածային բնութիւնը` Յիսուսը համարելով արարած: Ի վերջոյ յաղթական դուրս կու գայ եւ մինչեւ իր վախճանը` 373 թուականին, կը մնայ Աղեքսանդրիոյ աթոռին վրայ եւ կը պաշտպանէ քրիստոնէական ուղղափառ հաւատքը կառչած մնալով Նիկիական «Հաւատոյ Հանգանակին»: Կիւրեղ Աղեքսանդրացի հայրապետ Ծնած է 380-ին Աղեքսանդըրիոյ մէջ եւ անոր աթոռին վրայ գահակալած է 412 թուականին: Կիւրեղ հայրապետ ըլլալով կորովի եւ հեղինակաւոր կրօնաւոր մը, երբ պատրիարքութեան աթոռին կը հասնի, բուռն պայքար կը մղէ Աղեքսանդրիոյ մէջ գտնուող Նովատեաններու եւ հրեաներու դէմ: Կիւրեղ հայրապետ նշանաւոր եղած է ՙԱստուածածին՚ մակդիրին դէմ բացուած պայքարին մէջ եւ պաշտպանած է զայն: Բուռն պայքար մղած է Անտիոքեան Աստուածաբանութեան ջատագով Նեստորին դէմ, որ կ’ուզէր Քրիստոսի անձին մէջ տեսնել 7
երկու բնութիւններ: Օրուան Հռոմի կայսրը` Թէոդոս Բ. Կրտսեր, հարցը աւելի պաշտօնական միջոցներով լուծելու համար 431 թուականին Եփեսոսի մէջ տիեզերական ժողովի մը հրաւիրեց եպիսկոպոսները, ուր նզովուեցաւ Նեստոր եւ գահընկեց եղաւ իր աթոռէն: Այս առիթով որդեգրուեցաւ Կիւրեղ Հայրապետի բանաձեւը, որ է ՙՄի Բնութիւն Բանին Մարմնացելով՚: Կը վախճանի 444 թուականին: Ան ձգած է ճառեր, մեկնութիւններ, որոնցմէ շատերը հայրերէն թարգմանուած են 8-րդ դարուն, Ստեփանոս Սիւնեցիի կողմէ: Կիւրեղ Ալեքսանդրացի Հայրապետը Աղեքսանդրիոյ աստւածաբանական դպրոցի փայլուն ներկայացուցիչներէն մէկն է: Այս տարի Յունուար 25-ին Հայց. Առաք. Եկեղեցին կը տօնէ Ս. Աթանաս, Ս. Կիւրեղ Հայրապետներու յիշատակը: COMMEMORATION OF PATRIARCHS ST. ATHANASIUS AND ST. CYRIL OF ALEXANDRIA St. Athanasius (295-373 A.D.) He was born in Alexandria, to a Greek Christian family. He received his education in the famous Theological School of Alexandria. He was ordained to the diaconate by Patriarch Alexander of Alexandria, and participated in the Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325, as the Patriarch’s personal secretary. During the council he decisively defeated Arius and his followers who denied the Divine nature of Christ and purported that He was a created being. In his argument St. Athanasius stated the reality of Christ being God and explained the salvation in combining the human nature of Jesus with God, which is possible only through His incarnation. Athanasius stated that God became incarnate, “so that sons of mortal men should become sons of God.” 8
In 328, St. Athanasius became Bishop of Alexandria. He continued to struggle against Arian views and defended the Nicene Orthodox teachings (Nicene Creed). He was subjected to repeated persecutions, but his efforts bore fruit, and eight years following his death his teachings were adopted by the Ecumenical Council of Constantinople, in 381. St. Athanasius made very significant contributions to the development of monastic life as well. Patriarch St. Cyril of Alexandria He՚s one of the brilliant representatives of the Alexandrian Theological School. He was born in 380, and was the nephew of Patriarch Theophilus, whom he succeeded in 412. He struggled against Nestorius, the Patriarch of Constantinople, for the preservation of orthodox teaching. Nestorius, a presbyter of the Antioch Church, was chosen in 428 to the Constantinople cathedral and therein got the chance to spread his heretical teachings, namely about the mother of God. He was implying that she gave birth not to God, but only to the man Christ. For the purpose of settling this theological dispute Emperor Theodoros II convened the Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus, in 431. During the Council, Nestorius and his teachings were criticized and condemned, and the formulation of “Theotokos” (Birthgiver to God) was adopted by the Church as it related to St. Mary. The famous formulation of St. Cyril: “The one incarnate nature of God the Word”, has become the cornerstone of the Armenian Church regarding the nature of Christ. Saint Cyril guided the Alexandrian Church for 32 years. Saint Cyril died in the year 444. ԳԻՏԷ՞ԻՐ ԹԷ... As a result of his refusal to tolerate the Arian heresy St. Athanasius of Alexandria spent over 15 out of his 47 years of episcopate in five
exiles ordered by four different Roman Emperors. 9
