Աշխարհում ցրուած բազմասփիւռ բոլոր քրիստոնեաների, Բոլոր նրանց, որոնք կեանքի առաջին շրջանումն են, Եւ նրանց, որոնք արբունքի են հասել, Նրանց, որ մօտ են անկար ծերութեամբ կեանքի վախճանին, Մեղաւորների եւ արդարների, Բարձրահոն ինքնամեծարի եւ իր սխալն ընդունող անձնադատի, Բարիների եւ եղեռնագործների, նկունների եւ արիների, Ստրուկների եւ հպատակների, Գերաշխարհիկների եւ սեպուհների, միջակների եւ պայազատների, Շինականների եւ տոհմիկների, արուների եւ էգերի, Հրամայողների եւ հնազանդուողների, վսեմների եւ նուաստների, Վեհերի եւ փոքրերի, ազնուականների եւ ռամիկների, Ձիավարժների եւ հետեւակների, քաղաքացիների եւ գեղջուկների, Ահաւորի սանձով բռնուած գոռոզ արքաների, Վերնականների հետ խօսակցող մենակեացների, Մաքրակենցաղ եւ տիրանուէր զգաստների, Երջանկակրօն եւ ընտրելագոյն քահանաների, Վերակացու եւ բարեզգեցիկ առաջնորդների, Նախաթոռ գահակալների, սրբանուէր տեսուչների համար, Որոնցից ոմանց` աղերս-աղաչանք եւ ոմանց` բարի խրատներ Հօրինեցի ես աղօթքի համար` այս մատենիկով, Որ հոգուդ զօրութեամբ եմ ձեռնարկել, Գրի առնելով մաղթանքներ պէս-պէս, Որպէսզի խնդրանքներն այս բոլորի սրանով ընդմիշտ Քո մեծ գթութեա՜նը ներկայացուեն: Գ Արա՛ այս մատեանն ընթերցողների սրտերը յստակ, Բժշկի՛ր նրանց հոգիները դու եւ յանցանքները սրբի՛ր, Թո՛ղ պարտքերը նրանց եւ արձակի՛ր կապանքները մեղքի: Արտասուքները թող բխեն սրանով հրահանգուողների, Եւ թո՛ղ սրանով պարգեւի նրանց իղձ ապաշաւի: Շնորհուի թող, ո՜վ Տէր, նրանց հետ եւ ի՛նձ զղջումի կամք, Ինչպէս եւ նրանց` ի՛մ իսկ բառերով` շունչ բարեհամբոյր. Թող այս մատեանով եւ ի՛նձ նուիրուի պաղատանքը նրանց, Եւ իմ խօսքերով իմ փոխարէն էլ խնկուեն նրանց հեծեծանքները: 4
Ողբերգութիւնն այս սիրով ճաշակող սրտերում թող որ Շնորհիդ լո՜յսը մտնի եւ բնակուի: Եթէ պատահի, որ ինձ համար բարեպաշտները սրանով քեզ ընծայուեն, Ի՛նձ էլ ընդունիր, գթած, նրանց հետ, որոնք կենդանի են քեզ համար. Եթէ սրանով մեղքերը մաքրող արցունքներ կաթեն աչքերից, Ո՜վ խնամակալ, անձրեւի՛ր նաեւ նրանք ի՛նձ վրա: Հաղորդակիցներն այս կենաց գրքի` թող փրկուածներին լինեն դասակից: Քո կամքով, օրհնեալ, թող որ նաեւ ե՛ս համարուեմ փրկուած: Եթէ խօսքերի իմ ազդեցութեամբ որեւէ մէկի սրտի խորքերից Հնչեն հառաչներ աստուածահաճոյ, Թող որ նրա հետ, ո՜վ բարձրեալ, եւ ե՛ս օգտուեմ քեզանով. Թէ մաքուր մի ձեռք անուշ խունկերով առ քեզ կարկառուի, Թող իմ ձայնի հետ հասնի, միանայ Եւ ա՛յս աղերսանքն առ քեզ մատուցուող` աղօթքների. Եթէ ուրիշներն էլ պաղատանքներ երկնեն ինձ նման, բազմաբովանդակ, Նրանցով ե՛ս էլ թող որ քեզ կրկին նուիրուած լինեմ: Եթէ բանաւոր պատարագն այս իմ հաճոյ լինի քեզ եւ գնահատես, Ուրիշներինն էլ, առաջ, քան թէ իմ, թող քեզ ընծայուի. Եթէ տրտմութեամբ մի ոք սրտաբեկ նուաղի տկար, Թո՛ղ կանգնի դարձեալ հառաչանքների այս հաստարանով` քեզնով յուսադրուած. Եթէ ամբարտակն ապահովութեան խորտակուի մեղքով, Թո՛ղ որ քարերովն այս պատշաճապէս կառուցուի՜ դարձեալ, աջովդ պաշտպանուած. Եթէ յանցանքի սրով կտրուի յոյսի լարը ձիգ, Ամենակալիդ կամքով թող դարձեալ կցուի ամրապէս` քո պատուաստումով. Դ Եթէ հոգեկան ցաւի մի վտանգ պաշարի մէկին մահացու կերպով, Թող որ փրկութիւն գտնի սրանով` յոյսով ապրելու, Ո՜վ կեցուցիչդ քեզ աղօթողի: Տարակուսանքի տագնապով եթէ խոցոտուի մի սիրտ, 5
Թո՛ղ քո քաղցրութեամբ` բուժուի սրանով եւ առողջանա. Թէ անքաւելի մեղքի կորստեամբ մէկն ընկղմել է խոր անդունդի մէջ, Այս կարթով թող որ դէպի լո՜յսը գայ` քո պաշտպանութեամբ. Թէ խաւարային գործերով թմրած` ուժասպառ է ոք, Թող որ զօրանայ քեզ ապաստանած, միա՜կ ապաւեն. Եթէ պահպանակը վստահութեան լքել է մէկի հոգին, Ա՛յս միջնորդութեամբ թող ձեռքդ նրան ընդունի դարձեալ եւ ամրապնդի. Եթէ ոք հսկող պահապաններից հեռու դեգերի, Այդպիսին թող որ սպասի սրանով նորոգչիդ դարձին. Եթէ դիւային ջերմի սարսուռը խռովի մէկին, Սթափուի՛ թող նա խաչիդ խորհրդի Այս խոստովանուած ու երկրպագուած նշանի առջեւ. Անօրէնութեան խորտակիչ հողմի մրրիկը եթե Մարդու մարմնեղէն շինուածքն աշխարհի ծովում հարուածի, Թող որ քո կողմից շինուած այս ղեկով, առագաստներով խաղաղուի՜ դարձեալ: Ե Մատեանն այս ողբերի, որ քո անունով սկսեցի, բարձրեա՜լ, Թո՛ղ կենսատու դեղ ու դարման լինի Եւ բժշկի քո արարածների հոգու եւ մարմնի ցաւերը բոլոր: Սկսածն այս իմ` իր աւարտին հասցրու դու Եւ թող քո հոգին խառնուի սրան: Մեծիդ նորոգող շունչը թող միանայ ինձ շնորհածդ այս բանաստեղծութեանը, Քանզի դո՛ւ ես լոկ տալիս զօրութիւն վհատ սրտերին Եւ ընդունում փա՜ռք բոլորից. ամէն: ԱՂՕԹՔ Տէր ողորմեա, Տէր ողորմեա, Տէր ողորմեա: Տէր Յիսուս,Դո՛ւն ես յոյսը, Դո՛ւն ես լոյսը, Դո՛ւն ես կեանքը, Դո՛ւն ես քաւաութիւնը, Դուն ի՛նքդ անմահութիւնն ես: Սփոփէ՛ մեր տարակոյսները Քու փրկագործութեամբդ եւ հանդարտեցո՛ւր մեր խռո6
վութիւնները Քու խաղաղութեամբդ: Արժանացո՛ւր մեզ՝ Քեզի պատկանողներս, փառաւորելու Քեզ, Հօրը եւ Սուրբ Հոգիին հետ միասին՝ յաւիտեանս: Ամէն: ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆ ԸՍՏ ՄԱՏԹԷՈՍԻ 21.18-22 Առտուն, մինչ կը վերադառնար քաղաքը, անօթեցաւ: Ու ճամբան տեսնելով թզենի մը՝ քովը գնաց: Ոչինչ գտաւ անոր վրայ՝ տերեւներէն զատ, եւ ըսաւ անոր. «Ասկէ ետք ո՛չ մէկ պտուղ ըլլայ վրադ՝ յաւիտեան»: Թզենին անմի՛ջապէս չորցաւ: Երբ աշակերտները տեսան, զարմացան ու ըսին. «Ի՜նչպէս թզենին անմի՛ջապէս չորցաւ»: Յիսուս պատասխանեց անոնց. «Ճշմա՛րտապէս կը յայտարարեմ ձեզի. “Եթէ հաւատք ունենաք ու չտատամսիք, ո՛չ միայն պիտի ընէք այդ թզենիին եղածը, այլ նաեւ եթէ ըսէք այս լերան. "Ելի՛ր ու ծո՛վը նետուէ", պիտի ըլլայ”: Ամէն ինչ որ կը խընդրէք աղօթքի մէջ՝ հաւատքով, պիտի ստանաք»: ԲԺՇԿՈՒԹԵԱՆ ԱՂՕԹՔ Տէր ողորմեա, Տէր ողորմեա, Տէր ողորմեա: Փարատէ՛ ցաւերը եւ բժշկէ՛ հիւանդութիւնները քու ժողովուրդէդ, Տէր Աստուած մեր եւ բոլորին կատարեալ առողջութի՛ւն շնորհէ` Քու ամենայաղթ խաչիդ նշանով, որուն միջոցով մարդկութեան տկարութիւնը վերցուցիր եւ դատապարտեցիր մեր կեանքի եւ փրկութեան թշնամին: Դուն ես մեր կեանքն ու փրկութիւնը, բարերար եւ բազումողորմ Աստուած. միայն Դո՛ւն կրնաս ներել մեր մեղքերը եւ մեզմէ հեռացնել ախտերն ու հիւանդութիւնները. Քեզի յայտնի են մեր կարիքները: Բարիքներ պարգեւող, առատ ողորմութիւնդ պարգեւէ՛ քու արարածներուդ՝ իւրաքանչիւրին ըստ իր պէտքին, որովհետեւ արարածներուդ միջոցով միշտ կը գովաբանուի Ամենասուրբ Երրորդութիւնդ. 7

shall be illustrated in these image-filled psalms, showing you joyful in my salvation, blessed Lord, as if a ravenous hunger had been relieved by a sumptuous feast, for you are glorified not because of some vain song of mine, but because you may accept these modest prayers as justification for granting your great salvation. B A new book of psalms sings with urgency through me, for all thinking people the world over, expressing all human passions and serving with its images as an encyclopedic companion to our human condition, for the entire, mixed congregation of the Church universal, for the newborn who have just arrived, for adolescents in the second stage of life, for adults whose days are ripe and numbered, for the guilty and the just, for the brazenly haughty and the falsely modest, for the good and the evil, for cowardly and brave, for slaves and underlings, for nobles and clerics, for the middle class and princely, for artisans and the lords, for men and women, for commanders and servants, for high and low, for exalted and menial, for royalty and commoners, for knights and footmen, for city and country folk, for those brutally bridled by arrogant kings, 11
for those cloistered in heavenly contemplation, for sages with God-given wisdom, for priests, pious and chosen, for bishops, properly arrayed, for patriarchs, charged with pious supervision. May this book of prayers I have undertaken to compose with the strength of the Holy Spirit and with a view to the multitudinous needs of all serve for some as heartfelt pleas of intercession and for others as counsel toward virtue that through this book they might constantly appear before you, Great Mercy. C May you heal the souls and wash away the transgressions of those who read this book with pure hearts. Forgive their debts and free them from the bonds of sin. Release the flow of tears from those who study this book, and instill in them the desire to repent. And with them, Lord, grant me, contrition for my willfulness, and give them grace-filled inspiration through my voice. May their prayers, through this book, also be offered for me, and may their sighs rise like incense in place of mine. May your light enter and dwell in those who taste and embrace these mournful psalms. And if through me some pious readers dedicate themselves to you, receive me also, merciful Lord, with those who live for you. And if this book brings forth cleansing tears for our ills, may they also rain upon me, Keeper. And if those who share the passion for life contained in this book are enrolled in your heavenly kingdom and 12
earn salvation, grant that by your will, O blessed Lord, I might be in their number. And if sighs pleasing to God should be evoked through this book, may the benefit overflow to me also, exalted Lord. If a pure hand lifts incense to you, may my voice join with the sound and sighs of prayers and reach you. If others’ petitions labor to be born with mine, may mine, thus multiplied, be rededicated to you. If my offering of the words of my soul is pleasing, may they be offered to you with those who have gone before. If disheartened people falter in exhaustion, may they regain their steadiness through these sighs, setting their hope on you. If the bulwark of their faith crumbles with sin, may it be rebuilt with these writings shaped by your protecting right hand. If the thread of hope is severed by the sword of trangressions, may it be restored by the goodness of your almighty will. D If the perils of death besiege a person with pain, may redemption and hope of life be found through these words, victorious in you, O Life Giver, If a confused heart is wounded by doubt, may these words make it whole through your sweetness. If one is defeated by an irreparable loss, or buried in the depths of an abyss, may he come to the light under your watchfulness, hooked by this invention. If one is ensnared by drugs and their torpor, and surrenders to dark tendencies, let him be strengthened on your account, Sole Refuge, 13
and find tranquility in you. If deserted by the armor of faith, may he be sustained through the hand of your intercession, and held in your steadfastness. If one strays from the watchful eye of his caretakers, let him be watched over by these words until their return, Renewer. If one is seized by the tremors of demonic fevers, awake his soul with the sign of the cross, proclaiming and worshiping this miracle. If a violent storm suddenly strikes the vessel of the human body on its voyage through this world, steady its course with your rudder and send it sailing back toward you. E And may you make this book of mournful psalms begun in your name, Most High, into a life-giving salve for the sufferings of body and soul. May you perfect what I have started and may your spirit be mixed with it. May the breath of your great might infuse these verses with grace so that you may brace the wilting heart and accept praise from us all. Amen. PRAYER Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW: 21: 18- 22 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked. Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe; you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” PRAYER FOR THE SICK Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy Dispel the pain and heal the sickness of thy people, Lord our God and grant to all perfect health by the sign of thine all-conquering cross through which thou removed the weakness of mankind and condemned the enemy of our life and salvation. Thou art our life and salvation, beneficent and all merciful God, who alone can forgive us our sins and remove diseases and sickness from us, to whom are known our needs and necessities.
