ՄԱՏԹԷՈՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆԷՆ 20:29-21:17 Երբ անոնք դուրս ելան Երիքովէն, մեծ բազմութիւն մը հետեւեցաւ անոր: Եւ ահա՛ երկու կոյրեր նստած էին ճամբային եզերքը. երբ լսեցին թէ Յիսուս կ՚անցնի, աղաղակեցին. «Ողորմէ՜ մեզի, Տէ՛ր, Դաւիթի՛ Որդի»: Բազմութիւնը կը յանդիմանէր զանոնք՝ որ լռեն, բայց անոնք ա՛լ աւելի կ՚աղաղակէին. «Ողորմէ՜ մեզի, Տէ՛ր, Դաւիթի՛ Որդի»: Յիսուս կանգ առնելով՝ կանչեց զանոնք եւ ըսաւ. «Ի՞նչ կ՚ուզէք որ ընեմ ձեզի»: Ըսին անոր. «Տէ՛ր, թող մեր աչքերը բացուին»: Յիսուս գթալով՝ դպաւ անոնց աչքերուն. իսկոյն անոնց աչքերը բացուեցան, ու հետեւեցան անոր: Երբ մօտեցան Երուսաղէմի ու հասան Բեթփագէ, Ձիթենիներու լերան մօտ, Յիսուս ղրկեց երկու աշակերտ՝ ըսելով անոնց. «Գացէ՛ք այդ ձեր դիմացի գիւղը, ու իսկոյն պիտի գտնէք կապուած էշ մը, եւ անոր հետ՝ աւանակ մը. արձակեցէ՛ք զանոնք ու բերէ՛ք ինծի: Եթէ մէկը բան մը ըսէ ձեզի, ըսէ՛ք. “Տէրոջ պէտք են”, եւ իսկոյն պիտի ղրկէ զանոնք»: Այս ամէնը կատարուեցաւ, որպէսզի իրագործուի մարգարէին միջոցով ըսուած խօսքը. «Ըսէ՛ք Սիոնի աղջիկին. “Ահա՛ Թագաւորդ կու գայ քեզի, հեզ եւ հեծած իշու վրայ, իշու ձագի՝ աւանակի վրայ”»: Աշակերտները գացին, եւ ըրին ինչպէս Յիսուս պատուիրած էր իրենց. բերին էշն ու աւանակը, դրին անոնց վրայ իրենց հանդերձները, եւ նստաւ անոնց վրայ: Ահագին բազմութիւն մը փռեց իր հանդերձները ճամբային վրայ. ուրիշներ ճիւղեր կը կտրէին ծառերէն ու կը տարածէին ճամբային վրայ: Եւ առջեւէն գացող ու իրեն հետեւող բազմութիւնները կ՚աղաղակէին. «Ովսաննա՜ Դաւիթի Որդիին: Օրհնեա՜լ է ան՝ որ կու գայ Տէրոջ անունով: Ովսաննա՜ ամենաբարձր վայրերուն մէջ»: Երբ ան մտաւ Երուսաղէմ, ամբողջ քաղաքը շարժեցաւ եւ ըսաւ. «Ո՞վ է ասիկա»: Բազմութիւնը ըսաւ. «Ա՛յս է Յիսուս մարգարէն՝ Գալիլեայի Նազարէթէն»: 3
Յիսուս մտաւ Աստուծոյ տաճարը, դուրս հանեց բոլոր անոնք՝ որ տաճարին մէջ կը ծախէին ու կը գնէին, եւ տապալեց լումայափոխներուն սեղաններն ու աղաւնի ծախողներուն աթոռները, եւ ըսաւ անոնց. «Գրուած է. “Իմ տունս աղօթքի տուն պիտի կոչուի”, բայց դուք աւազակներու քարայր ըրիք զայն»: Կոյրեր ու կաղեր եկան իրեն՝ տաճարին մէջ, եւ բուժեց զանոնք: Երբ քահանայապետներն ու դպիրները տեսան անոր գործած սքանչելիքները, եւ մանուկները՝ որոնք տաճարին մէջ կ՚աղաղակէին. «Ովսաննա՜ Դաւիթի Որդիին», ընդվզեցան եւ ըսին անոր. «Կը լսե՞ս ի՛նչ կ՚ըսեն ատոնք»: Յիսուս ըսաւ անոնց. «Այո՛, բնաւ չէ՞ք կարդացած գրուածը. “Երախաներուն ու ծծկերներուն բերանով գովաբանութիւն կատարեցիր”»: Ապա ձգեց զանոնք, գնաց քաղաքէն դուրս՝ Բեթանիա, ու կեցաւ հոն գիշերը: MATTHEW 20:29-21:17 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, 4
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna b to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna d in the highest heaven!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ e but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’” The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’” And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
Ձեր սիրտերուն մէջ թող թագաւորէ Աստուծոյ խաղաղութիւնը, որուն ալ կանչուեցաք՝ մէկ մարմինով, ու շնորհակա՛լ եղէք: (Կող. 3:15) Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. (Col. 3:15) 5
ԱՅՍ ԿԻՐԱԿԻ - THIS SUNDAY ԾԱՂԿԱԶԱՐԴ Մարտ 28-ին Մեծ Պահքի եօթներորդ Կիրակին Ծաղկազարդ է: Ան կը խոհրդանշէ Քրիստոսի յաղթական մուտքը Երուսաղէմ: Երբ Յիսուս աւանակի վրայ նստած, իր աշակերտներուն հետ Երուսաղէմ մըտաւ, քաղաքի ժողովուրդը, ծերեր ու մանուկներ՝ արմաւենիի եւ ձիթենիի ոստերով Անոր առջեւ ելան: Մարդիկ իրենց ըզգեստները կը փռէին Յիսուսի ճանապարհին: Անոնց հասած էր Ղազարոսի յարութեան լուրը ու Յիսուսը կը դիմաւորէին որպէս Մեսիա, Փրկիչ, բացագանչելով. «Ովսաննա՜ Դաւիթի Որդին: Օրհնեա՜լ է ան՝ որ կու գայ Տէրոջը անունով: Ովսաննա՜ ամենաբարձր վայրերուն մէջ»: Յիսուս Երուսաղէմ մտաւ աւանակի վրայ նստած` որպէս խոնարհութեան նշան: Ծաղկազարդի առաւօտեան եկեղեցւոյ մէջ կ'օրհնուին ձիթենիի կամ ուռենիի ոստերը եւ կը բաժանուին ժողովուրդին: Հայկական աւանդութիւններու համաձայն եկեղեցիէն բերուած խաղաղութեան եւ փառքի խորհրդանիշ ձիթենիի եւ արմաւենիի օրհնուած ճիւղերը մարդիկ իրարու կը դպցնէին եւ կը հաւատային, թէ այդ ճիւղերը իրենց առողջութիւն ու յաջողութիւն կը բերեն: Գիւղացիներն ալ այդ ճիւղերը կը դնէին ամբարները՝ հացի առատութեան եւ գոմերը՝ կենդանիներուն չար աչքէ հեռու պահելու համար: Ծաղկազարդին կը կատարուի դռնբացէքի արարողութիւն, որ կը խորհրդանշէ թէ Յիսուս Քրիստոս մտնելով Վերին Երուսաղէմ, մե6
զի ալ կ'արժանացնէ փրկութեան դուռէն ներս մտնելու շնորհին: Ծաղկազարդին կը յաջորդէ Աւագ շաբաթը, որ իր մէջ կ'ամփոփէ Փրկչին երկրային կեանքի վերջին իրողութիւնները` հասցնելով մեզի Քրիստոսի Յարութեան: Ծաղկազարդի նախօրէին` Շաբաթ օրը, կը կատարուի Ծաղկազարդի նախատօնակ, եւ կը բացուի Սբ. Խորանին վարագոյրը: Յաջորդ օրը, առտուայ ժամերգութենէ յետոյ, Սբ. Պատարագ կը մատուցուի բաց վարագոյրով: Առաւօտեան պատարագիչ հոգեւորականը կ'օրհնէ ձիթենիի, ուռենիի եւ արմաւենիի ոստերը եւ անոնք կը բաժնուին ժողովուրդին:
PALM SUNDAY This Sunday March 28, is the last Sunday of Great Lent, the Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday, we remember and celebrate Christ’s triumphant entry to Jerusalem, humbly riding on the foal of a donkey. As Jesus rode into Jerusalem with his disciples and followers, people welcomed Him with palms, olive branches and cries of Hosanna (Glory to God!). In commemoration of Lord’s entry to Jerusalem the Church is decorated with palms and olive branches. Later the blessed olive and palm branches are distributed to the faithful. On Palm Sunday the Armenian Church holds "Opening of the Doors" (Trnpatsek) service, symbolic of our entrance into the heavenly Jerusalem. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, which commemorates the events, that happened on the last days of Christ's earthly life. The Holy Week concludes on Easter, when we celebrate the miraculous Recreation of our Lord Jesus Christ. ԴՌՆԲԱՑԷՔ Դռնբացէքի խորհրդաւոր արարողութիւնը Հայ Առաքելական Սբ. Եկեղեցւոյ տօնակարգի գեղեցկագոյն ծիսական արարողութիւններէն մէկն է: Ան կը կատարուի Ծաղկազարդի Կիրակիին կամ նորակառոյց եկեղեցիներու բացումի արարողութեան ընթացքին: Հոգեզմայլ այս արարողութիւնը խորհրդաւոր նախամուտն է Աւագ շաբթուայ Քրիստոսի չարչարանքներուն: Ան կը կոչուի «Դռնաբացէք», որ նախապէս կը կատարուէր եկեղեցւոյ դռներու առջեւ, իսկ այժմ՝ Ս. Խորանի գոց վարագոյրի առաջ: Ան կը կատարուի երկխօսութեան ձեւով՝ փակ Խորանին առջեւ ծնրադիր եւ վարագո7
յրի միւս կողմը գտնուող հոգեւորականներու միջեւ: Վարագուրւած Խորանը կը խորհրդանշէ երկնային արքայութիւնը: Խորանի առջեւի հոգեւորականը Արքայութիւն մտնելու պայմանները կ'առաջադրէ, իսկ վարագոյրի առջեւ ծնրադիր հոգեւորականները կը խորհրդանըշեն ժողովուրդը, որ կը փորձէ արժանանալ Երկնքի Արքայութեան: «Զողորմութեան քո զդուռն բաց մեզ Տէր» շարականի երգեցողութեան ընթացքին, կը բացուի խորանի վարագոյրը, խորհրդանշելով մեղաւոր մարդկութեան զղջումը եւ Քրիստոսի հետ Արքայութիւն մտնելը: OPENING OF THE DOORS CEREMONY Drnbatsek) On Palm Sunday the faithful gather at church for the Opening of the Doors ceremony. This service is unique to the Armenian Church. It symbolizes the opening of the gates to the Kingdom of God. The Ceremony is performed in a form of a dialogue. The priest kneels in the front of the closed curtain asks for compassionate forgiveness on behalf of the Faithful. The priest behind the curtain (in front of the Altar) presents the conditions to enter the Heavenly Kingdom. The Curtain is opened with the Hymn “Open to us Lord, the gate of Thy mercy”: Open to us the gate of Thy mercy, O Lord, and make us worthy of your dwellings of light together with your saints. The opening of the Curtain symbolizes the opening of gates of Kingdom to repenting mankind through Jesus Christ. ֍ 8
ԱՒԱԳ ՇԱԲԱԹ Աւագ շաբաթուայ բոլոր օրերը, ինչպէս Մեծ Պահքի Կիրակիները, ունին իրենց յատուկ խորհուրդներն ու արարողութիւնները: Աւագ շաբթուայ օրերը կը կոչուին. Աւագ Երկուշաբթի - Կ'ընթերցուի «Անպտուղ Թզենիի» առակը: Աւագ Երեքշաբթի - Տասը կոյսերու յիշատակութիւն: Աւագ Չորեքշաբթի - Տիրոջ օծումը եւ մատնութիւնը: Աւագ Հինգշաբթի - Վերջին ընթրիք՝ Սբ. Հաղորդութեան խորհուրդի հաստատում, երեկոյեան կարգ Ոտնալուայի, ապա Խաւարումի Աւագ Ուրբաթ - Մեր Տիրոջ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի չարչարանքներու եւ խաչելութեան յիշատակութիւն Աւագ Շաբաթ - Սուրբ Զատկուայ Ճրագալոյց THE HOLY WEEK The Holy Week is the high point of the Christian Calendar, commemorating the most important events of Our Lord’s earthly life – the teachings of the last seven days, Christ’s passions, His Death and Resurrection. Each day of Holy Week is called Holy and it is given a new sense and parabolic meaning. HOLY MONDAY. The gospel readings of the day focus on the 'Parable of The Withered Barren Fig Tree' HOLY TUESDAY is dedicated to the 'Parable of the Ten Virgins'. HOLY WEDNESDAY On this day the church commemorates the anointment and betrayal of our Lord Jesus Christ. HOLY THURSDAY (the last supper, institution of the sacrament of Holy Communion, washing of the feet). Late in the evening of HOLY THURSDAY the service of Khavaroom (darkness) or all night vigil takes place, which refers to the sacrament of Holy Friday. GOOD FRIDAY (The crucifixion and burial of the Lord) HOLY SATURDAY, joyous celebrations begin in anticipation of the promised triumph of our Lord over death on the third day, Easter Sunday. 9

Երկնաւո՜ր թագաւոր, տո՜ւր ինծի քու արքայութիւնդ՝ զոր քեզ սիրողներուն խոստացար. եւ զօրացո՜ւր իմ սիրտս՝ որպէսզի մեղքը ատեմ եւ միայն քեզ սիրեմ եւ քու կամքդ կատարեմ. եւ ողորմէ՜ քու արարածներուդ եւ ինծի՝ բազմամեղիս։ 14. Արարածները խնամո՜ղ Տէր, քու խաչիդ նշանովը հեռո՜ւ պա-հէ հոգիս եւ մարմինս՝ մեղքի խաբկանքներէն, դեւերու փորձութիւններէն, անիրաւ մարդերէն եւ հոգիի ու մարմինի ամէն տեսակի վտանգներէն. եւ ողորմէ՜ քու արարածներուդ եւ ինծի՝ բազմամեղիս։ 15. Դուն՝ որ բոլորին պահապանն ես, Քրիստոս, քու աջդ թող հովանի ըլլայ իմ վրաս՝ գիշեր ու ցերեկ, տան մէջ նստած ատենս թէ ճամբան գացած ատենս, քնացած թէ արթնցած ատենս, որպէսզի երբեք չսասանիմ. եւ ողորմէ՜ քու արարածներուդ եւ ինծի՝ բազմամեղիս։ 16. Աստուա՜ծ իմ, որ ձեռքդ կը բանաս եւ բոլոր արարածներդ կը լիացնես քու ողորմութեամբդ. ինքզինքս քեզի կը յանձնեմ. դո՜ւն հոգա եւ պատրաստէ հոգիիս եւ մարմինիս բոլոր պէտքերը, այսօրուընէ մինչեւ յաւիտեան. եւ ողորմէ՜ քու արարածներուդ եւ ինծի՝ բազմամեղիս։ ֎ 14
