It’s estimated that more than 47.4 million people live in Spain, which makes it the 9th biggest country in the world. Slightly more than 46% of all Spanish people is between 25 and 54 years old. According to data from 2011 more than 28 million Spanish inhabitants have access to the internet.

Having declined during 2020 due to the economic shock of the pandemic, retailing current value sales in Spain rebounded only partially in 2021, with demand continuing to shift from physical stores to ecommerce – albeit at a slower pace then in 2020. In recent years, e-commerce has been growing in popularity across the globe.

In 2020, nearly 80 percent of internet users in Spain bought online, with an average expenditure, per capita, of around 2,250 euros that same year. However, it is anticipated that there will be moderate growth in retailing this year supported by the anticipated post-pandemic economic rebound. The share of overall retail sales accounted for by ecommerce will continue to expand.
