GREETINGS From your Lieutenant Governor

Hello Division 27, How has your first month of office been? It’s hard to believe that just one month ago, we had our annual District Convention and were installed into office! As the golden summer vacation nears, it’s very important to remember a few things: stay keynected with your club, continue supporting the district project, and prepare your club for summer status. There will be a multitude of things that PNW Key Club members will be a part of during the summer, so it’s important that your club members are still aware of these events through your club. In addition, please remember to connect with your Kiwanians and sponsoring Kiwanis Club! They are the reason why Key Club functions the way it does, and they are always willing to help us out. They may seem like a bunch of old people, but they are the sweetest people you will ever meet. If they have helped you out financially for your attendance to DCON, write them a thank you card and let them know that you appreciate them! May is also the month that the Pacific Northwest District Board will be having our Annual Spring Board Meeting! I, as your Lieutenant Governor, will be representing Division 27 at every District Board meeting. If there is any business that you would like me to present to the PNW Board, please let me know ahead of time. For your records, minutes of District Board Meetings will be available. Even though this is the month that we’re busy with our new offices, standardized testing, and finals, there is another important event that we need to remember. Our mother’s have always cared for us since our birth, and they deserve our appreciation. Let’s take time out of this weekend to write them a card, and appreciate all that they’ve done for us as mothers. Thank you all for a great start to a new term, and let’s keep this passion burning until DCON 2015! With love and in caring service,

Josh Kim

Lieutenant Governor, Division 27

“If you light yourself on fire with passion, people will come from miles away to watch you burn” -IP District Secretary Hakikat Bains

GREETINGS From your International Trustee

What Makes Key Club Unique? Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world, but what makes it so special and what enables it to continue to grow? It can’t be the ability to volunteer because no matter where you go, you can find a way to give back to your community. You can even volunteer globally through UNICEF, Rustic Pathways, and other worldwide organizations. What makes Key Club is different from every other organization out there is the tight-knit community that it creates between people who live on opposite sides of a city, a state, a nation, or the world. To fully seize the opportunities that Key Club provides high school students, it’s important for everyone to be involved with their divisions, their district, and international. You can get involved with Key Club International by attending Key Club events, joining social media sites that are created to link together Key Clubbers from all over the world, and talking to your district leaders! In terms of the division, your Lieutenant Governor should be having Divisional Council Meetings every so often in order to bring the entire division together. Your division is composed of the schools around you that have Key Clubs. At these meetings, take advantage of the close distance between you and the other Key Clubbers in attendance. Arrange meet-ups, socials, and joint volunteer projects to increase your impact on your community and meet people who you otherwise would have not had the chance to meet! In terms of your district, the Pacific Northwest District is composed of all of the Key Clubs in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, as well as some of the clubs in western Idaho, northern California, and Canada. There are rallies in the summer for all Key Clubbers in a specific region to attend and meet new people. At these rallies, you’re bound to have an amazing time while also learning about Key Club International through educational forums. Each year, PNW also hosts District Convention: an exciting weekend in which Key Clubbers from all over the district unite to celebrate the end of a wonderful year of service and prepare for the next one. If you have the chance to attend District Convention, I highly recommend it! Yours in service, Roshni Chandwani International Trustee roshni.chandwani.kc@gmail.com

Slavery was abolished in America nearly two hundred years ago in 1865. However, it still exists not only in third world countries, but also within the comfort of America. In fact, it’s one of the fastest growing crimes in the world. With over 5.5 million children in the trafficking industry, and only 0.4% victims identified, Redlight Traffic works around the clock to save these innocent children in need. Join other Key Clubbers and #riseup against human trafficking.
