December DCM Recap

For December, we had a joint DCM with division 32! We were able to spend some time getting to know one another and we had some time going over the clubs’ activity. The most important information relayed included an overview of DCON, changes in the registration and new policies. Please visit pnwkeyclub.org for the registration packets as well as further information on DCON preparation. Key Club is a community, and I hope all of you who attended met new friends and got a feel for this special community that we have in front of us. Together, we made friendship bracelets for patients at the Children’s hospital.

Lt.G Elections When: January 11, 2014 12:30-2:30 p.m. Where: Redmond Library Meeting Room 2

Officers’ attendance is required and each school must be present at the elections. Each club will have 2 voting delegates and quorum must be met in order to approve official business. Please save the date and make sure that you will be able to attend!

For those interested in running for Lieutenant Governor: I see so much potential in the group of leaders that have grown this past year, and now it’s time to hand off the responsibility to one of you. Serving on the district board this past year has been one of the most rewarding experiences to date. The friendships, the accomplishments, and the difference I’ve witnessed through this leadership position have revealed how special the Key Club community truly is. I strongly encourage each of you to consider running for LtG. Don’t let trivial deterrents come in the way of this opportunity. I believe in each of you, and I can’t wait to see the future of Division 27 unravel.

Election packets have been e-mailed with the December Updates e-mailed to Key Club officers. Either contact your club officers or Ashley at pnwdivision27@gmail.com if you have not yet received the election packet.

Hopelink is a local non-profit organization based in Bellevue, which serves the homeless and low income families as well as people with disabilities. Their mission is to “promote self-sufficiency for all members of our community” and make a lasting change. They also have service centers in Kirkland/ Northshore, Redmond, Shoreline, and Sno-Valley.

FEATURED STORY With your help, the families we serve won't have to choose between paying rent, having a family holiday meal or presenting their child with a gift. Get Involved!  Fundraise & Donate  Food Drive  Toy Drive

When Katrina's son, Tyler, was diagnosed with Type II diabetes, preschool staff said they wouldn't be able to care for him until they underwent additional training. Although Katrina was working, she had exhausted all of her paid time off and looking after her son meant she would be unable to meet basic expenses. Hopelink helped Katrina receive Consolidated Homeless Grant funds that enabled the young family to stay in their home until Katrina could return to work.

Kiwanis Christmas Tree Sales Every year, the Kirkland Kiwanis sells Christmas trees in addition to small treats to fundraise for Key Club funds. Our very own Lake Washington, Juanita, and International Community Schools have helped out at the lot along Juanita drive. They sold out of Christmas Trees more than 2 weeks earlier than expected, and Kiwanis continues to support the Key Clubs in the area. If you haven’t already, make an effort to reach out to your local Kiwanis. They always love to interact with you.

The ELIMINATE Project is a joint effort between Kiwanis and UNICEF to end Maternal/Neo-Natal Tetanus throughout the globe.

Featured Service Projects International Community School’s Key Club often spends its meetings writing cards: cards to the oncology unit at the Children’s Hospital, troops in Afghanistan, etc. Not only is this activity quite quick and simple, but also leaves room for a lot of creativity with the event. ICS provided hot chocolate and made the club meeting into a social where clubbers from different grades were able to talk over a cup of hot coca, some paper, and markers. Sometimes the most simple service projects are the most enjoyable

Did your club do a special service project this past month? Send photos and details about the event to pnwdivision27@gmail.com and you might be featured!

Stay KEYnnected! Document your latest service project and hashtag “#PNWKeyClub” and you could be featured on the district level!
