Modern Plants for Modern Gardens

Welcome to our 2019-2020 catalogue. I’ve been in the nursery industry for over 50 years now and it has been amazing to watch the industry transform and grow into what it is today. We have become a very professional industry and we need a wide range of team members with different skills to run our businesses. Looking back, in 1981, after more than a decade working in a retail nursery I saw a need for another propagation nursery in the industry. My wife Liz and I built a glasshouse in Carrum Downs on Liz’s parents’ property, we outgrew the greenhouse and rented land in Beaconsfield before moving to our current Tynong site in 1983. Over the years, Greenhills became one of the leading propagation nurseries in Australia; achieved by hard work, and a like-minded team of loyal and committed employees. Our aim was to have the best quality stock, excellent service and strong ethics. I saw a gap in the market for new and exciting plants to be introduced into the Australian market, and Touch of Class Plants was created as the marketing company to drive this. For almost 20 years now, we are proud to have introduced hundreds of new plants to the nursery industry through strong relationships formed with breeders and collectors worldwide. Over the last 10 years I have taken a sideways step in the company with my daughter Leah and son Mark taking the reins of our family business. They know our business well, having 38 years combined experience and have the right management team to tackle the future. New technology and innovation are now very important in our industry and Leah and Mark have embraced this. I know they will continue to run Greenhills and Touch of Class Plants with confidence and pride, maintaining and improving the strong standards that have been set for quality, service and ethics. Liz and I are very proud of Leah and Mark and happy to move further back and let them drive Greenhills after almost 40 happy and rewarding years. It has been a great journey for me over the past 50 years, I have met so many great people and formed relationships and lifelong friendships with many people in Australia and around the world that are involved in this great industry of ours. It is with mixed emotions I announce that this will be the last catalogue introduction I write; my wife Liz and I are fortunate to have our children to take our business into the future. I look forward to chasing fish, searching for a warmer Winter, and breeding the odd plant now and then.
