Natural Wonders Day 1
School – Adelaide (D)
Day 1
Early morning departure for Adelaide. Overnight bunkhouse accommodation.
Day 2
Adelaide – Coober Pedy (B,L,D)
Early start for the long journey into the vast South Australian Outback, to the opal capital of the world, Coober Pedy. Stay underground and visit a local underground home and church.
Day 3
Coober Pedy – Uluru (B,L,D)
Continue travelling north to Marla. Drive across the Northern Territory border to Uluru and set up camp for two nights.
Day 4
Uluru & Kata Tjuta (B,L,D)
Visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre where aspects of Anangu life are presented. View and walk around the world’s greatest monolith which rises to 348m above a wide and sandy floodplain and is 9km in circumference. This afternoon tour Kata Tjuta and enjoy one of the many walks.
Day 5
Uluru – Kings Canyon (B,L,D)
After leaving Uluru National Park stop at the Mt Connor Lookout to view the mesa rising almost 300 metres from the plain en-route to Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park. Set up camp at Kings Creek Station. If time permits try the Kings Creek Walk which meanders along Kings Creek to a viewing platform offering stunning views of the sheer canyon walls.
Day 6
Kings Canyon – Alice Springs (B,L,D)
This morning climb to the top of the canyon rim for rewarding spectacular views. Marvel at the sight of red sandstone walls plunging into lush vegetation and natural rock pools. Here you will truly feel as if you are in the heart of Australia. Pack up and leave Kings Canyon and travel at leisure to Alice Springs. Set up camp for two nights at the MacDonnell Ranges Holiday Park (or similar).
Day 7
Arrive Yulara (D)
Arrive Yulara this afternoon. Meet your guide and mini coach. Travel to Uluru National Park and enjoy an orientation walk around the base of Uluru . This evening enjoy taking in the changing colours of the rock as the sun sets. Travel to Yulara campground and settle into the permanent camp tents, that sleep 4 on stretchers.
Day 2
Yulara – Lilla (B,L,D)
Early start for breakfast and camp pack up. This morning travel to Kata Tjuta and walk the Valley of the Winds loop. After lunch travel to Lilla and set up camp. Accommodation for the next four nights will be in dome tents which sleep 2 in swags. This evening a welcome ceremony by traditional owners.
Days 3-5 Community Service Days (B,L,D) Over the next three days participate in community projects which could include; painting houses, fencing, creating walking trails and building wilchas (traditional shelters) to name a few. Afternoons are spent learning about the Luritja culture and taking part in activities such as dot painting, jewellery making, sacred walks and traditional bush cooking. There is also an opportunity to walk around the rim of Kings Canyon on one of these afternoons.
Day 6
Lilla – Alice Springs (B,L,D)
Early start for breakfast, pack up camp and wave goodbye to the Lilla family. Drive to Alice and on to the Earth Sanctuary World Nature Centre. This afternoon is spent learning about sustainable living. The last night is spent here in swags around the campfire. Dinner and star show.
Day 7
Depart Alice Springs (B)
Breakfast, pack up and transfer by coach to Alice Springs airport.
West MacDonnell Ranges (B,L,D)
Begin the day at Ormiston Gorge. Enjoy a swim at the waterhole (for the energetic there is a 7km circuit walk from the visitors centre back to the main waterhole). Continue on to Standley Chasm for a midday viewing of the Chasm. On your return visit Simpsons Gap.
Day 8
Alice Springs – Overnight Express Travel (B,L)
Pack up camp and enjoy some last minute shopping and sightseeing before the overnight express journey back to school.

Arrive back at school late afternoon.

Day 5
Uluru – Kings Canyon – Alice Springs (B,L,D)
Early departure travelling via the Mt Connor lookout to view the mesa rising almost 300 metres out of the plain continuing to Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park. Climb to the top of the canyon rim for spectacular views. Red sandstone walls plunge into lush vegetation and natural rock pools. Mid afternoon travel to Alice Springs to set up camp for two nights.
Day 6
Alice Springs & West MacDonnell Ranges (B,L,D)
Full day exploring Alice Springs visiting the historic Old Telegraph Station, the site of the original township with all its buildings, Royal Flying Doctor Base, School of the Air and the Alice Springs Desert Park for an exciting introduction to the natural wonders of Australia’s deserts.
Day 7
Alice Springs – Tennant Creek (B,L,D)
Free time this morning at the teachers discretion before travelling via the Devil’s Marbles to Tennant Creek. On arrival enjoy a tour of an underground gold mine. Overnight camp.
Day 8
Tennant Creek – Katherine Gorge (B,L,D)
Early departure for Daly Waters and on to Mataranka for a welcome swim in the hot springs. Continue to Katherine Gorge to setup camp.
Day 9

Enjoy a 2 hour cruise into the gorge and perhaps undertake a canoe ride (own expense). After lunch travel northwest to Kakadu National Park to setup camp at Cooinda for 2 nights.

Alice Springs Desert Park A must see for every visitor to Central Australia. In the space of just a few hours, discover many of the secrets of the deserts. Camel Rides Choose from a range of camel rides available at various sites in Central Australia. Royal Flying Doctor Base Learn about the incredible history that has shaped the RFDS of today including amazing film footage and some incredible stories. School of the Air (Guided Tour) From the Visitor Centre discover the unique teaching methods used by the school from its founding through to the present day. A short film is available for viewing providing you with an historical overview of the school and how it operates. Old Telegraph Station (Guided Tour) The Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve marks the original site of the first European settlement in Alice Springs established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide. AquaScene Fish Feeding For a truly unique experience try AquaScene in Darwin. Hundreds of Fish visit the shallows of Doctors Gully at high-tide looking for a free meal. You can feed and even touch fish species including milkfish, bream, catfish, mullet and barramundi. Mindil Markets (subject to opening times) Thursday & Sunday in the dry season (late Apr–Oct) enjoy the tastes of five continents, with over 1200 different menu items, and an extensive array of handmade craft including crocodile products, indigenous art and jewellery. Live entertainment includes bands, street performers, cultural dance, acrobatics and fire shows. Earth Sanctuary Stargazing This advanced eco tourism site specialises in ecology, culture and astronomy offering an entertaining tour that includes discussions on sustainability, spirituality, stargazing and indigenous stories of creation.
Dot Painting Workshop New in 2010 this unique workshop provides an authentic and detailed insight into Aboriginal culture in a relaxed environment. Larapinta Trail Guided Walk Walking with an Aboriginal guide, this trek with a difference begins at the Old Telegraph Station to Wallaby Gorge following landscapes from the 'creation time'. Full Day Cultural Experience Transfer around one hour north of Alice Springs to meet your Aboriginal Guide for this unique walk through the ancient homelands of the Arrernte people. Experience tradition, culture and an insight into their song-line (creation story) as you discover bush foods and indigenous art along the way. The tour concludes with your own dot painting and a display of traditional dance. Mbantua Gallery & Cultural Museum The gallery showcases traditional and modern forms of indigenous Central Australian Art. The cultural museum is located upstairs from the gallery and has some great works of Art as well as bush foods and ancient weapons etc.

Lunch: sandwiches, rolls with a selection of fillings, typically ham, chicken, stras, cheese slices and salad items. Hot dogs, quiche and hamburgers. Deposits & Payments A deposit is payable within 30 days of confirmation with final names lists required 30 days prior to departure. Full payment for air, rail and sea travel is required 65 days prior to travel. GST will be charged on the full payment. Travel Insurance We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for students & escorts. This should be valid for the full duration of your itinerary. Luggage When travelling by air free luggage allowances will be strictly enforced with excess baggage carried by airlines at their discretion and at passengers own expense. Note most full service airlines offer a 20kg free baggage allowance. Some low cost airlines may offer a lower allowance or levy an additional charge for baggage.
Law of Contract G•E•T Educational Tours and its suppliers, including airlines, do not accept liability in contract or in tort (actionable wrong) for any injury, damage, loss, delay, additional expense or inconvenience caused directly, or indirectly by force majeure or other events beyond our control, or which are not preventable by reasonable diligence on its part including, but not limited to, war, civil disturbance, fire, flood, unusually severe weather, acts of God, acts of Government or other authorities, accident to or failure of machinery or equipment, or industrial action (whether or not involving its employees and even though such action may be settled by acceding to the demands of a labour group).
