VENICE LANDMARK STILL NOT PROTECTED

Two years ago the decision was made to protect the historic Basilica Church in St. Mark’s Square with a glass barrier. Till today nothing has been done. With frequent floods turning the square into a lake, damage to buildings is constant.

The strong tides enter the city of the Doges causing real floods and which are happening more and more often because of climate change which is raising sea levels. In 2020 St. Mark’s flooded every 3rd day and it was even flooded in June, which had never happened in the summer in over 1,000 years. Due to the low lying position, it does not take a very high rise in water level to cause flooding.
