Centredu-Québec Overview Just the place to captivate you! By car, bike, motorcycle, snowmobile or quad, no matter which road you choose, you will discover an authentic and amazing tourist region where traditions and terroir (local products) go hand in hand.
Accessibility Bounded by the majestic St. Lawrence River and the Appalachian foothills, the region is located just south of the St. Lawrence and the Lac-Saint-Pierre Biosphere Reserve and near several urban centres. As you drive along highways 20 or 55, you will inevitably travel through the Centre-du-Québec. Not far from the highways are the region’s main cities: Bécancour, Drummondville, Nicolet, Plessisville, and Victoriaville and its many charming quaint towns… yours to discover. No matter which itinerary you choose for your journey, interesting discoveries await you. The route will lead you through cities and towns, some urban and some rural, until you reach the St. Lawrence. As you follow the river’s path, the Route des Navigateurs gives you a truly impressive panoramic view.

A rich and diversified past In the past and at the present, the Centre-du-Québec region has been a land of opportunities. Reminders of its Scottish, Irish, and British colonial heritage abound. The territory was divided into seigneuries on the plains along the St. Lawrence and, further south, into townships in the Appalachian foothills. The region’s economy took off with the arrival of the railroad, which spurred the development of industries still thriving today. Throughout your travels, heritage tours will enable you to delve into the area’s fascinating history.

There are also themed circuits including the Route to Gourmet Delights, showcasing many local producers, the Bird Watching Circuit, with its many nature sites, or the Route des Navigateurs, a path that borders the St. Lawrence. More than 42 hunting sites on rented private land spread out over a maximum 25-km radius from Réservoir Beaudet in Victoriaville. This body of water is a stopping ground for close to 150 000 birds annually during migratory periods, making it one of Eastern Canada's major staging areas. The wooden footbridge erected on pylons crosses wooded areas and swamps. Featuring a very diverse wildlife, it leads to the the St. Lawrence River and its Lac-Saint-Pierre World Biosphere Reserve. Rest areas, observation sites and a 12-metre tower are built into the walkways (length 2700 feet).
For all the horseback riding lovers out there, whether it's on a saddle or sleigh, we have more than 70-km of trails that cross some breathtaking landscapes. Free parking available and trail stops equipped with picnic tables, horse tying gear and dry toilets. Travelling in Québec Bars, Casinos and Purchasing Alcohol You must be at least 18 years old to enter bars, pubs, nightclubs and casinos, as well as to purchase or consume alcohol (be prepared to produce ID if asked). Wines and spirits are sold through the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), the provincial liquor board. Beer is available at grocery and convenience stores, which also stock a limited selection of wines.
Currency Exchange There are numerous exchange offices in Québec’s main urban centres. Airports also offer exchange services. Some businesses accept American money, but tend to offer a less competitive rate than the exchange offices.
Driving in Québec Since Canada uses the metric system, speed limits and distances are posted in kilometres per hour (km/h) and gasoline is sold by the litre (l). It is illegal to transport or use radar detectors in Québec.
Cell phones Use of a cell phone is prohibited while driving.

Drugs and Driving This Act introduces a zero-tolerance principle when it comes to drugs and driving by prohibiting anyone from driving a vehicle if there is a detectable presence of cannabis or any other drug in that person’s saliva. Offenders are subject to an immediate 90-day suspension of their driver’s licence. According to the law, you must be at least 21 years old to purchase or consume cannabis (be prepared to produce ID if asked). The legislation also includes other measures, such as the prohibition from consuming drugs (cannabis or any other drug) in a road vehicle, on an off-road vehicle or on a bicycle.
Winter tires From December 1st to March 15, all taxis and passenger vehicles registered in Québec must be equipped with winter tires. This requirement also applies to rental passenger vehicles in Québec.

Canadian Currency The legal currency in Québec is the Canadian dollar (CAD), which is divided into 100 cents. Bank notes are available in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars, and coins in denominations of 5, 10 and 25 cents as well as 1 and 2 dollars. Bank cards and major credit cards are also accepted almost everywhere.
Tipping Tipping is customary in restaurants, bars and taxis. The amount, which is not included in the bill, is generally equivalent to 15% of the total bill before taxes. For quick tip calculations, Québecers normally add up both taxes. Tipping bellhops or porters is at your discretion (generally, $1 per bag).
Taxes Québec has two taxes : the 5% federal goods and services tax (GST), and the 9.975% Québec sales tax (QST). An accommodation tax of 3.5% of the room price per night also applies in our region.
