WELCOME TO KELOWNA | MAYOR COLIN BASRAN Thanks for visiting Kelowna – I hope you get to explore all our city has to offer. As you take in the views and enjoy the recreation and leisure services Kelowna is famous for, I also hope you’ll consider making Kelowna your home. Along with our great natural areas, agriculture and sporting opportunities, Kelowna has a strong and diversified economy. With the growing campuses at the University of British Columbia Okanagan and Okanagan College, our demographics are shifting to a younger, professional workforce. Combined with a tertiary-level hospital and an international airport, Kelowna is a mid-sized city with big-city services. Recognized as one of the most entrepreneurial cities in Canada, Kelowna is
attracting new residents at a pace that keeps us among the fastest growing regions in the country. A rapidly expanding tech development sector adds to our city’s entrepreneurial energy. We are working to diversify our housing options, so that people from all walks of life can find their place here. My city council colleagues and I are also committed to making Kelowna a welcoming community – no matter the colour of your skin, who you worship or who you love, we want residents who value the strength and richness that comes with a diverse population. I hope you feel welcome during your stay, and I hope you’ll consider making the move to Kelowna. Colin Basran Mayor of Kelowna

Live where you vacation. Urban and rural; nature and culture; playtime and downtime: Kelowna isn’t just one destination. It’s a bunch of them, located in one uniquely beautiful place. Kelowna’s great climate makes any outdoor activity possible, from early tee times at one of the 19 golf courses, morning hikes, to single-track bike rides on cooler mountain trails. Okanagan Lake stretches from Vernon to Penticton, with downtown Kelowna smack dab in the middle offering a watersport for everyone. Visit one of more than 30 beaches to swim and soak in the sun. Explore the lake on a kayak, canoe, stand-up paddleboard, or pedal boat and check out part of the new 27 km Kelowna Paddle Trail. The Downtown Marina is adjacent to the Kelowna Yacht Club and it’s possible to book a private sailing charter or join a boat or yacht tour just steps from downtown and the bustling Cultural District. Those seeking an adrenalin rush can try flyboarding, parasailing, or jet skiing. East Kelowna orchards Credit: David McIlvride
LOCAL FLAVOURS
HIKING & BIKING
Kelowna’s agricultural roots go deep. You want fresh? You’ve come to the right place. Kelowna is internationally renowned for its locally-grown fruit and produce. During the summer months, there is an explosion of colour, taste, and scent in the valley. Fruits are luscious and ripe, and honeys and herbs are bright and vibrant. Visit one of the many local stands for fresh fruit or pick some for yourself at local orchards.
There are hundreds of trails in and around Kelowna offering hikes ranging from easy to difficult, which will suit everybody’s needs. The mountain biking terrain also serves up challenges for both experts and novices. There is urban biking, easy-toreach single track, off-road trails, and skills parks. Kelowna is also home to one of Canada’s incredible, human-made wonders – the Myra Canyon trestles. Originally built between 1912 and 1914 as part of the Kettle Valley Railway, this 12 km section through Myra Canyon includes 18 restored trestle bridges and two tunnels.
WINTER
Kelowna really is a four-season playground. The city has a reputation as a summer destination, but locals know that Kelowna's mild, enjoyable winter climate shines, too. With four ski hills in the surrounding areas, it’s easy to get those powder days in. Big White Ski Resort and SilverStar Mountain Resort are about an hour away. Apex Mountain Resort and Baldy Mountain Resort are under two hours away. Closer to town you’ll also find cross-country skiing trails and snowshoeing, as well as downtown’s free ice-skating rink in Stuart Park.

CULTURAL DISTRICT
Kelowna’s thriving arts and culture scene provides endless opportunities to explore the city’s creative side. The Cultural District covers a six-block downtown area and features a concentration of galleries, museums, theatres, a casino, artists’ studios, fine dining, unique shops, and a vibrant cultural life all year long. Prospera Place, home to the Kelowna Rockets (Western Hockey League), attracts major entertainers and events, and is also located in the heart of the city.

WINE COUNTRY
DISCOVER INDIGENOUS HERITAGE
Kelowna is smack in the middle of one of the world’s most exciting wine regions. There are over 40 wineries that range from family-owned boutique wineries to estate vineyards known for their art and architecture. Wine has become part of the city’s fabric, and locals can taste a range of varietals and blends—from single-block Rieslings to Bordeaux-style meritages—as they explore the unique wine trails.
Kelowna sits on the ancestral, traditional, unceded territory of the syilx/Okanagan People and many opportunities exist to discover unique Indigenous arts and culture throughout the city and its surrounding communities. Visit Westbank First Nation’s Sncǝwips Heritage Museum to learn about syilx heritage, language, and culture. The museum is a fascinating place covering many thousands of years of history, spanning pre-contact and recent history. It is also a true living museum in that a number of artefacts, such as some of the drums, are still used today. The Okanagan Heritage Museum also has a permanent collection that includes Indigenous history and culture.
CRAFT SIPS
With over 20 breweries, craft brewing continues an upward trend that shows no sign of slowing down. New brewers regularly join Kelowna’s beer community and collaborations among breweries create an inclusive and engaged brew culture. Downtown’s North End brewery district has ten breweries all within a couple blocks of each other.
*All mentions of events and gatherings refer to pre-COVID.
With Kelowna growing and becoming more diverse, the proliferation of wonderful inclusive events has increased, too. Kelowna.LGBT is the local hub for all things queer in Kelowna – casual coffee meet ups, epic drag shows, club nights, drag queen wine tours, and more. Be sure to check out the LGBT2Q+ section on the Tourism Kelowna website as well. Kelowna Pride week welcomes over 5,000 attendees annually and is a fun and safe way to celebrate the diverse and accepting community of Kelowna.
