LOOK TO
LANGLEY
Situated in the Mighty Fraser Country within the lower mainland of British Columbia, Langley is the perfect place to stay and experience an endless choice of activities. Close to all major transportation routes, the communities of the Langley’s welcome you. Visitors are attracted by a blend of historic and heritage sites, farms and wineries, quaint boutiques and big-box shopping, as well as a variety of outdoor activities and events. The rolling landscape of the area, previously traversed by fur-traders and settlers, is now the burgeoning home of approximately 140,000. This means Langley is looking firmly towards the future but still retains its historic connections to the farm and family. A municipality with a far-reaching history, it was at Fort Langley in 1858 that Governor James Douglas announced the creation of British Columbia. Today’s Langley, however, delivers the kind of accommodations, dining, and other amenities that visitors would expect in the 21st century. International and national sporting events and diverse festivals and events all showcase how Langley has become a focal point of activity for southwestern BC. Agriculture remains an important industry and with so many farms here, the vibrant restaurants’ local cuisine is flavoured with home-grown produce. During your visit to Langley, be sure to set aside several days to explore. Whether you want to savour the unique tastes of the Circle Farm Tour, explore the wineries, venture back in time to discover our pioneering heritage, or see the wildlife, Langley makes an ideal home base. British Columbia’s lower mainland and Fraser Valley are amazing destinations with many delightful vacation opportunities. This region is easily defined by the spectacular scenery. This area is abundant with green forests, remarkable water systems, fertile agricultural land, and majestic snow-capped mountains. With efficient access from all parts of the area to major regional transportation corridors and three 24 hour border crossings, Langley is open and accessible to visitors from across BC and the Pacific Northwest. Nearby Vancouver International and Abbotsford International airports provide wider-ranging access.

Beyond Langley Stay in Langley and explore the unique culture and cuisine that makes the surrounding areas an exceptional destination. Visitors to the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Tourism Region can venture further into the Fraser Valley and continue to discover all the farm gate vendors that participate in the self-guided Circle Farm Tours. Pick up some cheese from Farm House Natural Cheeses, made with traditional French methods, or grab a jar of fresh organic honey or hazelnut spread to pair perfectly with a bottle of wine from a Langley vineyard. Of course, the City of Vancouver is another popular spot amongst visitors. This buzzing metropolis often tops the list for most livable and greenest cities in the world. Drive over the newly constructed Port Mann Bridge, North America’s second largest and longest cable-supported bridge and get into the city within an hour. Walk or bike along the Stanley Park Seawall—a scenic 22km path along Vancouver’s waterfront. Capilano Suspension Bridge, one of Vancouver’s most popular tourist attractions, takes visitors 137m across and 70m above the Capilano River. No matter what the season, the North Shore Mountains offer spectacular views of the city below, regardless of whether you hiked up, or plan on skiing down. Finish your day in the city with a visit to the historic Gastown area or the trendy Yaletown district before venturing back for a relaxing night in Langley. From rural excursions to city experiences, the possibilities in the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region are endless. For more information on events and activities in the area, visit www.604Pulse.com
aldergrove History buffs and foodies alike will get their fix from what this community has become most famous for. Named after the thriving alder trees that complement the neighbourhoods, Aldergrove is ideally situated in the heart of the fertile Fraser River delta.
Situated at the southeastern edge of Langley, and adjacent to the city of Abbotsford, BC, Aldergrove is also a border community. This location is vital to establishing our relationships with our US neighbours as it is home to one of the Lower Mainland’s five border crossings, connecting to Lynden, Washington. As a result of the strategic location, the first Customs Office was built here in 1889 and stands to this day as a historic monument. With a growing population of approximately 12,000, the seasonally mild temperatures and prime soil conditions contribute to the production of some of the best agricultural products one can find. Delicious, mouth-watering strawberries, raspberries and blueberries brighten the summer season and lush fruit and vegetables are just some of the more common crops you will find from the flourishing farm fields and farm gate vendors.
EAT
If you want to eat like the locals, Aldergrove restaurants, pubs and cafés deliver some of the finest of fares. From the home-style cooking and local charm of the Hilltop Café to some of the best classic Canadian grilled burgers at Bob’s Bar & Grill to the renowned Seasonal 56 Restaurant where you will taste the freshest local ingredients of the Fraser Valley bounty.

PLAY
Visitors to Aldergrove can go wild here — with an enjoyable day at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. Watch the feeding of the lions, meet a reptile or watch out for the Radical Raptors. Whether you choose to walk, ride your bike, or take the safari minitrain, your day will be a memorable experience. The area also offers a multitude of outdoor pursuits. Equestrians, cyclists and hikers seek this community to enjoy the extensive network of paths that are carved through the lush fields and forests. And don’t forget your camera when you explore the beauty that is found everywhere you look at Aldergrove Lake Regional Park.
SHOP
The community’s retail and services roots run deep in Aldergrove and it is especially highlighted by the landmark, Otter Coop. What once served as a general store and feed supply for the local farmers in the 1930s has turned into a one-stop shopping source today. Make sure to wander through the hub of this community, where you will discover an excellent mix of quaint one-of-a-kind specialty and brand name stores to meet your needs.
In 1926, the history of the turkey changed when turkey breeder Jesse Throssel moved from England to Aldergrove, BC. With just one tom and two hens making up his original breeding stock, Throssel worked with his high meat producing turkeys and the USDA to produce the Broad Breasted Bronze. This turkey breed grew in popularity through the 1940s and in the 1950s the BBB was bred with the White Holland turkey to produce the Broad Breasted White. Because of its maximum size and breast meat yield and ability to meet consumer demand, this specific turkey breed became the foundation of the modern turkey industry in North America.
STAY
With so much to discover and explore, make sure you make reservations for your overnight stays. The newly renovated and well-appointed Best Western Plus Country Meadows Hotel is ready to welcome you and will fit your needs. If a motor home or camper is your method of travel, there are several RV Parks conveniently located in the area. Should you find that business is calling while you are away, the Aldergrove Enterprise Centre comfortably provides you with the space, workplace and office support services you will need.

FUN facts Military Connections The Royal Canadian Navy’s primary communication station for the Maritime Forces Pacific fleet is located at Naval Radio Site Aldergrove. NRS Aldergrove held the traditional naval designation of HMCS Aldergrove from 1956–1967 and Canadian Forces Station Aldergrove (or CFS Aldergrove) from 1967–1996. Automation in the mid-1990s combined with downsizing led to the facility becoming an attachment of CFB Esquimalt, rather than an independent Canadian Forces Station.
Theatre Under the Stars Langley’s Twilight Drive-In movie theatre is the largest of only three remaining outdoor theatres in BC. There are only five countries left that list locations for these infamous theatres: Australia, Brazil, India, the US and Canada. Be inspired by memories of the past, or simply enjoy an evening reminiscent of the rediscovered era from this North American culture — slip on your p.j.’s, gather together your family or friends and nestle under a star-filled night to see why this experience just may be making a comeback. With popular and new released features every weekend from February through November, the Twilight Drive-in is ideal for indulging in a bit of healthy nostalgia. AUDRA’S PHOTOGRAPHY

Billy Miner — Pie? While a peaceful and friendly community today, Aldergrove was once home to Canada’s first and most famous train robber, Bill Miner (known by the Mounties and, much later, Hollywood, as the Grey Fox). Though a masterful and elusive ne’er-do-well, the Grey Fox was eventually brought to justice in 1906 by local resident brothers, Duncan and Robert Shortreed. Today, the Shortreed Cairn marks the location of this pioneer family homestead.

Home to over 6,000 horses, it also acknowledges Langley as the Horse Capital of BC. Proceeds from the sponsorships, sale and auctioning of the horse and colt statues will be used by the Langley Arts Council to support future art and cultural activities, including grants and sponsorships to other art and cultural non-profit groups in Langley. CITY OF LANGLEY The first European settlers in what is today the City of Langley were William and Adam Innes, two brothers who came to British Columbia from near London, Ontario with the intention of freighting to the Cariboo goldfields. The original settlement became known as “Innes Corners”, and was later called “Langley Prairie” when the post office was transferred there in 1911. Continued growth resulted in the demand for higher levels of service in the community and on March 15, 1955, the City of Langley, with its current boundaries, was incorporated as a separate municipality.
For arts and culture, sports, shopping and more, the City of Langley is… The place to be. Several significant streets make up the vibrancy of the municipality, highlighted by both the Fraser Highway and Douglas Crescent. It is an ideal location to spend a relaxing day of shopping. With high-end independent stores, farmer’s markets, terrific antique retailers, free parking and pedestrian friendly streets, the City of Langley is proud to be a growing business centre that has held onto its heritage feel. Especially known for its thriving arts community, every season is full of wonderfully exciting events in the City of Langley, many of which are organized by the Downtown Langley Business Association. Traveland RV Rentals is conveniently located on the Langley Bypass/Highway 10, for those picking up an RV and continuing on to explore the province. There are also a number of comfortable hotels such as a Best Western Plus Langley Inn, Days Inn & Suites, and Cascades Casino & Resort. The City of Langley is also home to Kwantlen Polytechnic University, with 45 acres of cutting-edge science labs, greenhouses and nurseries offering over 120 diverse programs.

FORT LANGLEY Take a visit to the village of Fort Langley where you will find specialty shops, restaurants, charming bed and breakfasts, excellent camping facilities at Fort Camping at Brae Island, museums, historic sites and recreation options—from walking trails to river sports. Known as the ‘Birthplace of BC’ this quaint and vibrant village continues to tell the tale of how, 150 years ago, the Colony of British Columbia was proclaimed.
While it all began with the search for gold on the Fraser River, this all-season destination is a combination of turn-of-the-century architecture and rural landscapes. This is also the exact location where the Hudson’s Bay Company established their huge trade organization and the story is told inside both the National Historic Site and the Langley Centennial Museum. The nearby world-renowned Trinity Western University attracts students from around the world who are interested in a classic liberal arts education.
ORIGINAL FORT
SWEET TOOTH At Maria’s Gelato you will find over 40 delicious flavours of gelato and sorbetto.
Quality candy and hand-made chocolates can be found at Euphoria Chocolates, Into Chocolate Candy and Confections, and Everybody Loves Candy Shoppe.
The original site of the Hudson’s Bay fort is actually located three kilometres downstream from its present site, at what was later called Old Fort Langley, and then Derby in 1858. The remnants of the first fort and signage explaining its history are now located in what is now Derby Reach Regional Park. High tea, cupcakes, macaroons and pastries are just some of the delectable treats found at Traceycakes Bakery Café and the Little White House Café. 18

The trail connects Fort Langley to the original site of the Hudson’s Bay trading post which was previously located downriver. The trail is spectacular year round and is lined with seasonal wildflowers, lush vegetation and wildlife. Many prominent and well-attended events happen annually in the community including the well known Cranberry Festival which takes place on Thanksgiving weekend. Don’t forget to include a visit to The Fort Wine Co., which is known for its tasty cranberry and fruit wines, or experience the true farm lifestyle at Aldor Acres Dairy Centre where you will be taught the art of milking a cow. A visit to Fort Langley wouldn’t be complete without learning a bit about British Columbia’s history at the Fort Langley National Historic Site, Langley Centennial Museum or BC Farm and Agriculture Museum.
EAT
Fine dining experiences in Fort Langley are plenty and include independent gems such as Beatniks Bistro, the patio in town to devour gourmet dishes in the warm summer evening air; Eighteen 27, a top-notch martini bar whose selections of tapas, entrees and live music are sure to set the mood; as well as the Lampliter Gallery Café, well known for its seasonally inspired refined country cooking. If a quick bite or gourmet café latte are what you’re looking for, look no farther than Planet Java Café, Fort Langley’s own 50s themed diner; the famous Wendel’s Bookstore and Café, a popular meeting spot for Fraser Valley cycling clubs, Village Coffee and Tea Company; or Fort Langley’s newest addition — Say Cheese, a gourmet grilled cheeserie. If you’re looking to have a couple brews and watch the game on a big screen tv, you must check out The Fort Pub and Grill.
PLAY
Recreational opportunities abound in Fort Langley and the natural landscapes are a perfect setting for the outdoors. If spending time on the water is preferred, then make your way to the Bedford Channel and Brae Island Regional Park, where you will find a paddle centre to rent a canoe or kayak and learn to paddle. If the greens are calling, there are three 18 hole full size championship golf courses available within your reach. Choose from Belmont Golf Course, Fort Langley Golf Course, or the nearby Pagoda Ridge, Langley’s newest course, whose Asian-infused architecture makes for a unique experience. Walking, running or cycling The Fort to Fort Trail is one of the more popular activities for locals and visitors alike.

Memorial Trees In the summer of 1914, a group known as the Langley Volunteers began preparing for what was later called the Great War. At the head of this organization was Dr. Benjamin Marr, Municipal Collector Archie Payne, and local grocer Arthur Johnston. During their service in Europe, Marr and Payne decided that if they were lucky enough to return, they would do what they could to remember Langley’s fallen soldiers. After the War, Marr and Payne returned to Langley and began their memorial projects. Street names were changed to commemorate the soldier who had lived there, such as Glover Road or Berry Road. To create a living memorial to the dead, it was decided in 1923 to plant a tree for each fallen soldier at their renamed street. Originally the trees were surrounded by a white fence and featured a plaque stating who the road was named after. All of the original markers have disappeared and, although many of the trees have died, the remaining few stand as a reminder of how everyone in this small community was touched by the far-away war. The Langley Heritage Society placed house-shaped cement monuments at the remaining four trees as a memorial to both the First World War soldiers and the people who planted these trees in 1923. Plaques were placed on the monuments in a ceremony on December 20, 2003.

MURRAYVILLE FUN facts Amid the homes and shops, this area is the traditional civic core. Murrayville is home to the Langley Memorial Hospital, Langley RCMP Main Detachment, Langley School District offices, W.C. Blair Recreation Centre, and Langley Regional Airport. Murrayville is one of the oldest communities in Langley and several historical landmarks are found here, including the community’s oldest schoolhouse and the 1930s P.Y. General Store, today a modern café.
Historical Old Yale Road, one of the first roads to be paved in the province, runs through Murrayville and connects to the city’s first roundabout. The Langley Regional Airport is a general aviation airport used for aviation industry businesses and by private aircraft for recreational flying, as well as fixed wing and helicopter flying training and charter flights. The airport is also home to the Canadian Museum of Flight, dedicated to restoring, preserving and showcasing Canada’s rich aviation heritage. It is a great spot to spend part of your day. Do not miss the famous Handley Page Hampden as it is the only one on display in the world! Murrayville is also home to the Langley Golf & Banquet Centre, a beautifully groomed par 3 course that appeals to all skill levels.
22
tourism langley visitors’ guide
The two main pads of the Langley Regional Airport are capable of accommodating the largest helicopter in the world, the Sikorsky S-61, as well as a variety of other rotary wing aircraft.
Langley’s first indoor public pool opened December 1986. Named in memory of the Township’s late mayor W.C. Blair Recreation Centre, it also featured BC’s first wave pool.
The Murrayville Pumphouse is important for its historic and social significance. The pump house site has supplied water to the residents of Murrayville, one way or another, continuously since 1911. Community folklore still claims that the water collected here makes the best pickles.
THE PERFECT SETTING Langley streetscapes, buildings, and green space have been featured in many US and Canadian feature films, Made-for-TV movies, commercials, and TV series. Next time you rent a movie or head to the theatre, take a close look and see if you recognize any locations from your visit to Langley. Some spots you should keep your eyes open for include Café Planet Java, Canadian Museum of Flight, the Village of Fort Langley itself, the Fort Langley National Historic Site, the Fort Langley Community Hall, The Hill Top Café, and Porters Coffee and Tea House. In addition to BC’s wealth of talent both in front of and behind the scenes, film producers love the diverse landscape of the area—from the mountain backdrops to valley farmland, bustling streetscapes to picturesque scenery. Being in the same time zone as Hollywood, California is another benefit! Fort Langley is said to be scouted by a film crew at least twice a week, possibly because of its visual similarity to Upper State, New York. A trip to Langley can transport you into a battle with the paranormal in Supernatural, or into Storeybrook, a town filled with fictional characters come to life in Once Upon a Time. You just might step into a frozen arctic landscape in the Yellowknife-based show Arctic Air, or find yourself surrounded by vampires from the Vampire Diaries. In the heat of the summer months, you could even turn the corner and enter a winter wonderland set, as holiday movies are often filmed in the Village of Fort Langley year round.

Davenport Maps Ltd.
SOUTH LANGLEY With approximately 77 per cent of its land located within the Agricultural Land Reserve, much of the Township of Langley lies in rural areas. Farms, agri-businesses, and homes on acreages can be found in the rural spaces that surround the urban neighbourhoods. These areas are also home to wineries, equestrian centres (including Western Canada’s premier High Point Equestrian Centre and Clubhouse), golf courses, and numerous parks and green spaces.
FUN facts An area in the southwest corner of the community, South Langley boasts a unique micro-climate in which five local wineries flourish. Agri-tourism is prominent in this area, and the picturesque, rolling landscape beckons horseback riders from near and far. The large area of parkland and views of the Golden Ears Mountains provide the perfect backdrop for a day of wine tasting, cycling, horseback riding or strolling through the park.
EAT & DRINK
The Fraser Valley is quickly becoming a well-respected wine destination. With a multitude of world-class wineries, there is truly something to please every wine connoisseur. Of Langley’s six wineries, five are situated in South Langley, making them ideal stops on a scenic cycling tour of the area. Domaine De Chaberton Estate Winery, the most established of this industry in Langley, offers tastings, tours and authentic French cuisine prepared with local ingredients and a West Coast flair at the on-site Bacchus Bistro overlooking 50 acres of vineyard. Events are held year round at the wineries such as a Harvest Party and Date Night at Neck of the Woods Winery & Backyard Vineyards, as well as Art in the Vines and a Monster Mash Grape Stomp at Township 7 Vineyards & Winery. There is fun for the whole family. You’ll be pleased to find a decadent array of artisanal preserves available at Vista D’oro Farms & Winery that will perfectly pair with a local vintage. Don’t forget to sip their flagship D’oro, a fortified walnut wine, while enjoying a picnic underneath the walnut trees. Taste the wines and tour the facilities at Blackwood Lane Vineyards & Winery and your journey is sure to be full of fabulous flavour. 26

Hidden Gem If you’re exploring Campbell Valley Regional Park, you just might stumble upon a forgotten gem. The historic Langley Speedway was an active race track from the 60s to early 80s and was one of the few sites in BC to host Nascar events. Walking around the track, you can still see some of the damage along the walls that were caused by crashes.
Interesting Angle Ear-Ore, one of the resident horses at Back in the Saddle Again, is named so due to the fact that his right ear is positioned on a 90 degree angle. As a foal, under different ownership, he suffered from frostbite and his ear was bent. After he recovered it never went back to normal.

Often referred to as the ‘Horse Capital of BC’, Langley is home to a great number of equestrian facilities and horseback riding companies that provide all age groups the opportunity to ride horseback and experience the rural countryside that South Langley has to offer. Those operating in the area are Back in the Saddle Again and Langley 204 Riding Stables. Plan on taking a family trail ride around Campbell Valley Regional Park or book lessons to develop your equestrian skills. This 549 hectare nature park in South Langley offers an abundance of natural hiking and cycling trails, a heritage farmstead, picnicking and camping facilities, and an off-leash dog park, as well as a number of rivers and streams to canoe or kayak.
Bring a picnic basket full of local delicacies from your stops along the Langley Circle Farm Tour, or pick some up at Vista D’oro Farms & Winery or Township 7 Winery and spread your blanket out in a picturesque vineyard landscape, sip a local vintage and enjoy the ambience of the Fraser Valley countryside.

HISTORY Human occupation of the area that we now call Langley can be traced back to the retreat of the last glaciers some 10,000 years ago. First Nations people, known as the Sto:lo, or “river people” are thought to have been the principal occupants of most of the Fraser Valley throughout the last several millennia. They depended on the river and land for their survival and livelihood. The First Nations people who established their home in the Langley region are served by Kwantlen, a hun’qumi’num word meaning “tireless runner”. The Kwantlen (Qw’?ntl’en) First Nation were recorded in 1827 as the largest group on the lower Fraser, with a traditional territory extending from Mud Bay in Tsawwassen, through the Serpentine and Salmon Rivers and along the Fraser River, east past Mission. The First Nations continue to be an important part of the Langley communities. As with many BC communities, the completion of the CPR Railway in 1886 led to new settlement and the construction of the BC Electric and Great Northern Railways in the early 1900s which further encouraged growth and a prosperous forestry and agriculture base. In order to serve the growing population, service centres such as Langley Prairie (now the City of Langley), Aldergrove, Milner, Murrayville and Fort Langley emerged.
Another significant link to the development of today’s communities was the completion of the Trans-Canada Highway in 1961 which greatly influenced the industrial, commercial and residential development throughout Langley. But the steady urban growth also impacted the available farmland and in 1973 the Agricultural Land Reserve was created to help direct urban development and balance the agricultural use. Today, approximately 77% of Langley’s land mass remains green and protected by inclusion in the Land Reserve (ALR) and much of the population is accommodated in the developments of Walnut Grove, Fort Langley, Murrayville, Willoughby, Aldergrove, Brookswood and the City of Langley. Langley is known as a “Community of Communities”.

mile diet In the current North American food system, it’s estimated that, on average, food travels 1,500 miles from farm to plate—in Langley it’s easy to live a 100 mile diet. With over 1,200 farms in the community, there’s an abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables, poultry, meat, eggs and milk available at farm gate shops, open air markets, and local grocers year round. A great place to get a hold of many of these farm products is the Langley Community Farmers Market which is located at Kwantlen Polytechnic University during the summer months. Reducing our individual carbon and ecological footprints while supporting
local food systems in the Fraser Valley is encouraged by the Circle Farm Tour experience. Langley is home to BC’s first organic chicken farm, Thomas Reid Farms, and as well as over 20 other certified organic farms. The Township of Langley also ranks second in the province in total greenhouse area, which accounts for 23.6% in Metro Vancouver, and 14.4% in BC. Seven wineries and one brewery also call Langley home, which lends to the perception of the Fraser Valley as a growing wine destination. The wealth of seasonal pumpkin and Christmas tree farms in the community helps support Langley’s distinction as a year round agri-tourism destination.

The Langley Circle Farm Tour is your road map to exploring the lush countryside. Circle Farm Tour is designed as a self-guided tour for you to choose your own agri-adventure. Start with what’s in season, then add something off the beaten path and finish off with a new experience. Your options are open to take an afternoon, or spend a day or two to explore. Established in 2003, Langley joins together with Abbotsford, Agassiz/ Harrison Mills, Chilliwack and Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows in welcoming
visitors to explore the agricultural roots of our communities. Your journey through Langley’s diverse Circle Farm Tour will be a feast for your senses. Sample classic grape vintages, award winning fruit wines and artisanal preserves. Fill your picnic basket with fresh fruits, pies, or juicy berries from Driediger Farms Market and add a local cheese and specialty turkey. Stroll through gardens and farm markets, then take in an equestrian event, meet an alpaca, see where the Hudson’s Bay Company first farmed and learn how to milk a cow! And once you’ve tasted and experienced how great it is—learn how to grow your own from one of the many nurseries such as the lower mainland’s largest nursery, Cedar Rim. Explore the endless choices of the Langley Circle Farm Tour! Visit www.circlefarmtour.com for a list of participating farms to plan your journey!

RIDE
THE ROADS Hello Langley! On the good advice of family, I have made Langley home base for the past five years on at least one of the great road trips I take every year in BC. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the thrill of the road. It’s me, my bike, and often the company of good friends that have also discovered what you have to experience in your part of the province. The chance to ride any time of the year on one-of-a-kind routes, wide open road, rolling hills, spectacular scenery— you sure know how to deliver! What makes it the ultimate riding adventure every time is the great location. You’re just outside Vancouver, but have everything I need and more. A great choice of restaurants, accommodation that always exceeds my expectations and the comfort of knowing my bike and I are in excellent hands if I ever need to visit the local motorcycle dealership. Thank you Langley — you make owning the road possible every time. D. Skaug, Calgary AB
my perfect ride AT prospera va lley Granfon do All year I had been training for this 160km GranFondo and today I was confident I was ready. Spare tire tubes—check, bike pump—check, water bottle and gel-packs—check. Anticipation was building as I joined the more than 1200 cyclists. At the sound of the start horn—we were off! I couldn’t help but notice the natural landscapes and beautiful roadways. Tall red cedar trees, emerald green Douglas fir trees, lime green willow trees and the occasional field of grasses or yellow lazy susan sunflowers. What a lush area of the Fraser Valley. This really is the cycling mecca of British Columbia —what a picture to behold! With a perfect route, well stocked aid stations, the best of volunteers offering words of support and reassurance from the easily accessible motorcycle mechanics along the way, I knew I would meet my personal goal and make the finish line. As I rounded Mavis Street in Fort Langley, I could hear the music from the stage and words of encouragement rang out from my friends and family! I didn’t have a lot left in my legs, but I planned to blast through the finish line arch looking strong and get that finisher’s medal. I did it — it was my perfect day!
